Frank DiJiulio

DELANCEY — Frank DiJiulio, 73, a longtime resident of DeLancey and beloved husband, father and brother, passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Frank DiJiulio was born Nov. 21, 1931, in Albany, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Constantino) DeJullio.

In 1958, Frank married the former Margaret "Maggie" James, daughter of the late Archie and Letha (Hunt) James of DeLancey. The couple were married in Albany, where Frank worked as a taxi cab dispatcher and Maggie was employed as a hairstylist.

In 1963, Frank and Maggie moved back to DeLancey, where they raised four handsome children, Frank "Dusty," James "Jimmy," Michael "Mickey" and Mark.

Once back in Delaware County, Frank worked in the construction field for a time and then owned and operated a service station on Kingston Street in Delhi. He then worked for more than 20 years as an auto parts manager, first at Wickham’s Auto Sales in Delhi and then at D&D Auto Parts in Walton. He retired in 2002 and enjoyed playing cards with friends and visiting the racetracks at Monticello and Saratoga.

He was one heck of a poker and blackjack player, according to family and friends, and a loyal fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.

Frank and his wife, Maggie, were also active in various community projects. Frank was one of the founding members of Delaware County’s chapter of the Association for Retarded Children (now Citizens) and served as treasurer and director. Frank and Maggie became involved in establishing support and education for handicapped children when their third son, Mickey, was born with cerebral palsy. Finding that there were scant resources to assist such children in this area, Frank and Maggie worked with community representatives to establish a local chapter of the ARC in Delaware County.

There are now many offices of the ARC in the county that provide services for mentally and physically challenged children and adults.

Frank was also a veteran of the Korean War, serving overseas as an officer in intelligence operations with the United States Army. He was awarded the Commendation Medal for his meritorious service.

Frank will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving him are his wife of 48 years, Margaret "Maggie," and three sons, Michael (Mickey) of Walton, James DiJiulio and wife Nancy (Lepinett), and grandson Justin, also of Walton, and Mark DiJiulio of Denver, Colo. He is also survived by daughter-in-law Donna (Ordmandy) DiJiulio, wife of Frank "Dusty" DiJiulio, who passed away in 2003. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Melissa and Dustin of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a sister, Ann Marie Spinella of Tampa, Fla.; along with many nieces, nephews, close friends and poker buddies.

Frank had two brothers and a sister who predeceased him: Charlie DeJulio, Jerry DiGuilio and Helen DeJuillo Edwards, all formerly of Albany.

Friends and family are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 131 Main St., Delhi, where the family will be in attendance.

A memorial service for Frank will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at the DeLancey United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Hamden Cemetery, Hamden, where the American Legion will conduct a veterans service.

A reception will follow at the home of Frank and Maggie’s niece, Rosemary Roberts, and her husband, Rick, 2136 Covert Hollow Road, Hamden.

In Frank’s memory, and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Delaware County Association for Retarded Citizens, 34570 state Highway 10, Walton, NY 13856.
