Barbara J. Mattice

HOBART — Barbara J. Mattice, 68, of Hobart died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at home, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

She was born July 27, 1937, in Albany, the daughter of Earl and Millie (Cottone) Loucks.

She married Benny Mattice on Jan. 2, 1955. A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Mattice was a wonderful and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.

She found great joy in spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren.

She was a 20-year member and past president of the Hobart Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Benny Mattice, of Hobart; daughters, Sharon Jakus and Zoltan of New Milford, Conn., and Janet Toth and Tibor of Hobart; two grandchildren, Jennifer Briggs and Joseph Toth; two brothers, Richard Loucks Sr. and Shirley of Bloomville and Earl Loucks of Hobart; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Millie Loucks, and a sister, Shirley Tompkins.

Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating. Friends are invited to visit beginning at 1 p.m. the day of the service until service time.

Burial will take place in the Stamford Cemetery, Stamford, immediately following the services.

Contributions are asked to be made to the American Cancer Society, Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care or the Hobart Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, in loving memory of Barbara J. Mattice.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home of Hobart.

Gerald Brundege

WALTON — Gerald C. Brundege Sr. of Walton, a lifelong Delaware County resident, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. He was 72.

Mr. Brundege was born May 23, 1933, in Deposit to Wesley and Catherine Cook Brundege. He grew up in Cannonsville and attended Deposit Central School.

In July 1952, he married Anna Reynolds at the Methodist Parsonage in Delhi.

Jerry looked forward to coming into Walton on Friday nights to get his lottery tickets and attending the Sunday morning fly-in breakfasts at White Birch Airport in Hancock.

He was an avid jokester, always playing tricks on his beloved grandchildren. He was well loved by his family.

Mr. Brundege is survived by his wife, Anna, at home in Walton; his sons, William (Elyn) of Mt. Morris, Gerald C. Jr. (Judy) of Walton, Erpherd James (Mary) of Delhi and Wesley (Betty) of Walton; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Pat) of Walton; a sister, Mary Van Valkenburg of Afton; a sister-in-law, Loretta (Charles) Loker of DeLancey; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Glenn, Alice, James and Janet.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, with Pastor David Gatje of the Trout Creek Community Church officiating, at Lyon Bros.-Way Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton, where family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Donations to the Trout Creek Emergency Squad or the Trout Creek Community Church in his name would be appreciated.

Adele Ringston

STAMFORD — Adele Ringston, 97, formerly of county Route 36, Kelly Corners, passed into eternal life Sept. 25, 2005, at Robinson Terrace Residential Care Center, Stamford, where she had resided since Aug. 16, 2001.

She was born Oct. 23, 1907, in New York City, the daughter of Fred and Adele (Hubitzka) Mahrer.

Adele married Raymond Ringston on Aug. 7, 1964. He died Feb. 4, 1983.

Adele was a former employee of the British government during World War II as a translator.

Adele is survived by friends in the Margaretville area.

A gathering of Adele’s friends will take place at Villa Shalom from 9 a.m. until Mass time at 10 a.m. A memorial funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at Our Lady’s Chapel, Scudder Hill Road, Roxbury, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell as celebrant.

Burial will be in the Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Susan Pagillo

LAURENS — Susan Pagillo, 61, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Feb. 22, 1944, in Queens, the daughter of Roland and Lillian (Chisholm) Skala.

Susan moved to Laurens from Islip in 1967. She was Family Care Provider for Broome Developmental Services for 10 years.

Susan enjoyed camping, flowers and gardening, and many kinds of crafts.

Most importantly, she loved spending the holidays with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Sr., of Laurens; her children, Michael Jr. and his wife, Yvonne, of Bloomville, Laurie and her husband, Kenneth Clow, of Laurens, Joseph of Binghamton, James and his companion, Raven, of Morris, and Thomas of Mount Vision; grandchildren, Michael Paul, Richard, Sandra and her husband, Stephen, Barbara, George, Shawn and his wife, Patrice, Keisha and her husband, Leon, Felicia, Eric, AJ, Tommy, Jamie, Tiffany, Wendy, Rene and her husband, Kyle, Sonya and Danielle; nine great-grandchildren; her brothers and sister, Jimmy of Long Island, Frank of Bovina, Dottie Gersic of Florida, William, Robert and Joseph, all of Long Island; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, and a brother, Roland.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, officiating. Interment will follow in the Elm Row Cemetery in Laurens.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Processing Center, PO Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057-0007.

The Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., in Oneonta is serving the family.

John Jacob Meyer

MORRIS — John Jacob Meyer, 87, of Morris died Oct. 7, 2005, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin.

He was born Oct. 30, 1917. He spent his formative years at Cochection Center.

As a young man he went to the New York City area to seek his fortune, which he said he never found. He did, however, find his wife, the former Doris R. Kinkel, whom he married Oct. 25, 1941, in Brooklyn. She survives him.

In 1952, they came to Morris, where for many years Mr. Meyer ran Meyer’s Welding Service on Elm Grove Road, retiring in September 1981.

He was a member of the Morris Town Board beginning in 1970, serving as councilman until 1976, when he assumed the position of supervisor, a position he held until he retired Dec. 31, 1993.

He was a member of the Otsego County Republican Committee and town chairman; past master and degree master of the Louisville Grange; former member and honorary member of the Morris Fire Department; and a member of the United Methodist Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Kenneth J. Meyer of Troy and John H. Meyer of Jensen Beach, Fla.; his grandchildren, Alissa B. Meyer of Cooper City, Fla., Matthew H. Meyer and Gretchen R. Meyer of Morris; two brothers and their wives, Joseph and Maria and Eugene and Mildred Meyer of Sullivan County; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Henry M. Meyer in 1979, and Henry’s wife, Helen, in 2001.

His dedication in serving as town supervisor will be long remembered by those who knew him well.

His last endeavor was his total devotion to his wife, Doris, who he went to see religiously seven days a week for six years straight.

A calling hour will be from noon until 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Morris, with the funeral service to be held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ann Blair officiating.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820 in his memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Jeffrey J. Deleski

ONEONTA — Jeffrey J. Deleski, 51, of Albany passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at his home in Albany.

Jeffrey was born the son of Edwin J. and Sara Joann (Wenner) Deleski in Oneonta on June 6, 1954.

He was a graduate of St. Mary’s School, Oneonta High School, Siena College and Albany Law School.

He worked for the New York State Education Department as an assistant examination editor in the Office of State Assessment. He was a test editor in the social studies department.

He is survived by his father, Edwin J. Deleski, of Oneonta; two brothers and two sisters Edwin J. and his wife, Patricia Deleski, of South New Berlin, Michael and his wife, Holly Deleski, of Laurens, Deborah and her husband, Mark Leach, of Oneonta and Dianne Deleski of Binghamton; two aunts, June Klingerman of Bloomsburg, Pa., and Jane Yeanish of Slatington, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Sara Joann Deleski, and one nephew, Nicholas Deleski.

Friends may call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at which time the family will be in attendance.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Mary’s School, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

LeRoy W. Neice

WALTON — LeRoy W. Neice, 74, of Walton passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 13, 2005, at Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton.

Roy was born in Walton on June 28, 1931, the son of Earl and Alice Cranston Neice. He was a graduate of Walton High School.

On May 1, 1952, he married Frances "Faye" Campbell in the parsonage of the Walton Reformed Presbyterian Church.

He served in the Army, and later in the Army Reserves as Company Commander of Company D, Walton as Captain.

He owned the former Friendly Tavern, the Imperial Lounge and the Crown Motel.

Roy was a former member of the Walton Lodge No. 559 F.&A.M., Walton Fire Department and EMS, Trout Creek EMS, U.S. Army Retired Officers Association and the Walton Veterans Club.

He was also a former member of the United Presbyterian Church of Walton and the First Presbyterian Church of Loris, S.C.

Roy who was known for his wit, enjoyed entertaining his friends at the Imperial Lounge and Friendly Tavern. He loved gardening, both vegetables and flowers; golfing; and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Neice; his mother, Alice Neice, Delhi; two sons, Chris L. Neice and his wife, Kathleen, and Clark A. Neice and his wife, Dixie, both of Hamden; two sisters, Nadine Hoyt and her husband, William, of Walton and Sharon Underwood and her husband, Larry, of Walton; one brother, James Neice and his wife, Barbara, of Florida; five grandchildren, Lisa Levene, Tina Backus, Benji Neice, Andrea Neice and Sally Neice; four great-grandchildren, Ariel, Bianca, Kaden and Tylar; a sister-in-law, LuAnn Neice, Walton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Earl; and a brother, Howard.

In keeping with Roy’s wishes, there will be no public services.

Burial will take place in Walton Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Roy’s memory may be made to Walton EMS or Trout Creek EMS. Envelopes for memorial contributions are available by contacting the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.

John P. Henderson

BURLINGTON FLATS — John P. Henderson, 80, of Burlington Flats died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at MIB Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1925, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of James P. and Olive (Fleming) Henderson.

He married Ann L. Smalley in Virginia. She predeceased him Jan. 6, 2001.

John retired from the United State Postal Service. He loved working as a clerk at the post office window where he could visit with everyone who came in that day.

John served in the United States Army as a Medical Technician during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star; and participated in the Battle of Normandy.

John enjoyed watching the Braves play baseball, old movies and sitting with company. He was comfortable with silence and his cat. One of his greater talents was storytelling, a trait that the family hopes to be passed down to future generations.

His children and their spouses, Donna Jean and John Snyder, Joann Patricia Childers, LouAnn Sally Matthews, Jay and Theresa Henderson and James and Mary Ann Henderson; and a plethora of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren, survive John.

He was ever so proud to be a great-great-great-grandfather.

His three brothers, and wife, Ann, predeceased John.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at the Burlington Flats Baptist Church, with Pastor Jay Henderson officiating. A dinner will follow the service at the church annex.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Catskill Area Hospice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.
