Deborah J. Eggleston
GUILFORD — Deborah J. Eggleston, 42, of North Pond Road, Guilford, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.

She was born Feb. 21, 1955 to Richard and Lena Horton in Sidney. She married Gary Eggleston on Oct. 18, 1997 at their home in Gilford.

Debbie was employed by Corning Glass Works in Oneonta. She was a Nascar enthusiast, an avid bowler and loved the outdoors.

Survivors include her husband Gary Eggleston of Guilford; her mother and stepfather, Lena and Walter Poss of Afton; two sons, Jim and Matthew Cutting of Guilford; a daughter, Shelly Cutting of Guilford; a brother, Charles Horton of Unadilla; and three sisters, Betty Hovey of Bainbridge, Sandra Zorda of Bainbridge and Bonnie Price of Hamlin.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998 at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Wayne Burnett, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Afton and Bainbridge, officiating.

Friends may call Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998 at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney, from 6-7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, N.Y. 13815.

Minnie E. Fordman
ONEONTA — Minnie E. Fordman, 74, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998 at the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Facility, Oneonta.

She was born April 17, 1923 in Hamden, to the late Leroy A. and Lottie Wolcott Mower. Minnie was married to Edwin J. Fordman, who predeceased her on July 10, 1976.

Minnie was an avid Bingo player.

She is survived by two brothers, Edward and Florence Mower of Gilboa and Leroy and Janet Mower of Windham. She was predeceased by a sister, Eva Greenleaf.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 1998 at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney, with the Rev. Frank Maccraken of the Word of Faith Fellowship in Maryland, officiating.

Friends may call Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998 at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney, from 7-9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Julia A. Amitrano
ONEONTA — Julia A. Amitrano, 76, of Oneonta, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998 at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
She was born Sept. 3, 1921 in Davenport, the daughter of John and Raffael (Marrazzo) Gallucci. She married Samuel F. Amitrano on Oct. 12, 1941 in St. Mary's Church in Oneonta.

Julia was a lifelong resident of Oneonta. She enjoyed her work as a key sales associate for the J.C. Penney Company in Oneonta for 35 years, until her retirement in 1995.

Julia was a member of St. Mary's Church and their Rosary Society.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Samuel F. Amitrano of Oneonta; three brothers; several nieces and nephews including Sergio Amitrano, Michael Lawrie, Robert Lawrie, Mary Jane Van Steenburgh, Angela Sawalqah, Linda Norak and Carol Ann Palmeter. She is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews. Julia was predeceased by a sister, Amelia Lanttanzi.

Friends may call Friday at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Mary's Church on Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Rosary Society.

Arrangements are by Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

George H. Freer
DELHI — George H. Freer, 72, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998 at the O'Connor Hospital, Delhi. He was born Dec. 10, 1925 in Ellenville, the son of George H. and Vivian (Lyons) Freer. He married Eva (Isabelle) Sherwood Sept. 6, 1947 in Liberty. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.

Mr. Freer was a graduate of Liberty High School, class of 1944. He attended Cornell University prior to enlisting in the Navy. Mr. Freer was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Atlantic and Pacific aboard the USS Sloat. After his tour of duty, he attended Clark University in Worcester, Mass.

Mr. Freer was formerly employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, York Modern Corporation of Unadilla and D & D of Delhi.

Mr. Freer was a member of Delhi Lodge 439 F&AM, Delhi; former fire commissioner for the Delhi Rural Fire Department; member of the Donald W. Gleason American Legion Post 190, Delhi; member of the Tin Can Sailor; and a member and former trustee of United Ministry Church, Delhi.

Surviving are his wife, Isabelle (Eva) Freer of Delhi; two daughters, Susan Gladding of Bloomville and Martha Sunkenberg and her husband William of Milford; two sons, George Freer and friend Colleen Sander of Delhi and John Freer and his wife Linda of Sonora, Calif.; grandchildren, Brian Gladding and wife Rose, Brock Freer, Ian Merritt, Allison and Megan Freer and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Gladding; sisters and husbands, Eunice and Edward Water of White Lake and Richard and Scharma Yaun of Liberty.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. in the United Ministry Church of Delhi with the Rev. Mark Chatterton, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Friends may call at the Moxley-McCall Funeral Home, Delhi, Friday from 7-9 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.

A Masonic Memorial Service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. in the Moxley-McCall Funeral Home, Delhi.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Delhi Emergency Squad, Donald W. Gleason American Legion Post 190, Delhi, or the United Ministry Church of Delhi.

Arrangements are by Moxley-McCall Funeral Home, Delhi.

John E. Van Varick
ALTOONA, Pa. — John E. Van Varick, 72, of Sciota, Pa., formerly of Stamford, died Jan. 6, 1998 in Bon Secours Hospital.

He was born June 15, 1925 in Clifton, N.J., the son of Walter F. and Edna M. (Sawley) Van Varick. He was raised by his father and stepmother, Alice Van Varick.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He worked as a pipefitter, and was a 50-year member of Local 274 of the Pipefitters Union, Ridgefield, N.J. For many years he was associated with the George Van Varick Co., mechanical contractors, of Clifton, N.J.

He married Genevieve Welch in 1944 and Patricia A. Mason in 1959.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Van Varick of Sciota, Pa.; four sons, George Van Varick of Clifton, N.J., John S. Van Varick of Hackettstown, N.J., Roger F. Van Varick of East Stroudsburg, Pa. and Patrick W. Van Varick of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; a twin brother, Robert F. Van Varick of Damascus, Pa.; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. All four of John's sons are also members of the Pipefitters Union.

Calling hours are Friday, Jan. 9, 1998 from 7-9 p.m. at the William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. at the William A. Tari Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip Gehres officiating. Burial will be in the Stamford Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, N.Y. 12206.

Funeral arrangements are by William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford.

Keira R. Wright
UNADILLA — Keira R. Wright, 7 weeks old, of Shamrock Village, Unadilla, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998 at The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born Nov. 15, 1997 in Oneonta, the daughter of Donald and Angel (Kuhn) Wright.

She is survived by her parents, Donald and Angel Wright of Unadilla; two sisters, Tona and Keisha Wright of Unadilla; paternal grandparents, Louella and the late Richard Wright of Unadilla and Donald and Connie Baumes of Unadilla; maternal grandparents are Sharon Kelli of Collinsville, Va. and George and Joyce Kuhn of Hancock; great-grandparents are Marguerite Washburn of Unadilla and Gerald and Louise Halstaed of Hancock; also several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services will be held later at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Unadilla Emergency Squad.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Geneva E. Kenyon
ALBANY — Geneva E. Kenyon of Croswell Street in Albany died Jan. 5, 1998.

Born in Unadilla, she lived in the Capital District for many years. She was an elementary teacher in the Albany School District for over 30 years. She was a member of Vanguard.

Surviving is her husband of 62 years, Charles D. Kenyon.

Funeral services will be private.

Those who wish may send remembrances to Community Hospice, 315 S. Manning Boulevard, Albany, N.Y. 12208.

Fredrick Sikkema
SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Fredrick Sikkema, 96, of Route 80, died on Thursday morning, Jan. 8, 1998 in Lakeland Healthcare, Haskell, N.J.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1901 in Fairlawn, N.J., the son of the late John and Cornelia Miller Sikkema.

He was educated in Riverside Christian School and wend to the Chicago Automotive School in Chicago, Ill.

On June 6, 1928 he married Alice DeRuiter in Paterson, N.J., a loving union of 64 years, until her passing on March 31, 1993. In 1957, Fred moved to Springfield Center from Glen Rock, N.J. For many years he was a hay dealer as well as school bus driver for the Springfield School System, retiring in 1972. He was a member and Elder of the Springfield Presbyterian Church, the Warren Grange, the Richfield Springs Senior Citizens, and was Town Councilman for Springfield, for 22 years, retiring that office in 1991.

Surviving are a daughter, Helen Van Harken and her husband, Richard, of Waldwick, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Janet Sikkema of East Springfield; eight grandchildren, Gary Sikkema of Springfield Center, Douglas Sikkema of Richfield Springs, Debra Bookhout of Oneonta, John and Richard Sikkema, both of Phoenix, Ariz., David Van Harken, Ruth Woudenburg and Sue Ellen Jeltes, all of Northern, N.J.; six great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a son, Fredrick J. Sikkema, in 1961 and a grandson, Fredrick J. Sikkema, in 1997.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. John Wilde, pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, officiating. Mr. Sikkema will then be placed in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home private to await burial in Springfield Center Cemetery in the spring.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Springfield First Response, P.O. Box 358, Springfield Center, N.Y. 13468 or the Eastern School Association, 50 Oakwood Ave., North Haledon, N.J. 07508.

William Henry Sweet
NEW BERLIN — William Henry Sweet, 84, of New Berlin, died Jan. 8, 1998 at Chase Nursing Home, New Berlin.

He was born Aug. 31, 1913 in Gilbertsville, the son of William H. and Marion (Borden) Sweet.

He married Dorothy A. Miller on Sept. 8, 1934. She died April 4, 1997.

He attended local area schools.

He is survived by his children, Charles and Marion MacGillivray of Holmesville, William and Elizabeth Sweet of Sherburne, Dennison and Linda Hoxie of New Berlin, Robert and Marjorie Pessarchick of Binghamton, Charles and Linda Sweet of Garrattsville and Ronald and Shirley Holl of New Berlin; and one brother, Robert Sweet of Edmeston.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Carol Salmon.

He worked for Webb and Sons for many years.

Mr. Sweet was an avid hunter who loved the outdoors.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998 at 2 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

The Rev. Charles Taylor of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of New Berlin will officiate.

Interment will be in the Scribner Cemetery, town of New Berlin.

Viewing will be Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, 7-9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the Scribner Cemetery, c/o Mr. Gary Potter, New Berlin.

Inez B. Slauson
ROXBURY — Inez B. Slauson, 85, of Roxbury, died Jan. 8, 1998 in Margaretville Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 13, 1912 in Vega, the daughter of Smith Ballard and Edith Ploutz.

She married Marshall J. Slauson on Oct. 4, 1934 in Roxbury.

She was the deputy town clerk for 28 years for the town of Roxbury. She lived her entire life in Roxbury.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Roxbury, the Roxbury Senior Citizens Club and was a former member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge. She graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1932.

She is survived by her husband, Marshall J. Slauson of Roxbury; one son, Gary Slauson of Guilderland; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998 at the United Methodist Church of Roxbury with the Rev. Arlene Penney officiating.

Burial will be at the Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.

Calling hours will be from 7-9 p.m. on Jan. 10, 1998 at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Contributions in memory of Inez B. Slauson may be made to the Ambulance Fund of the Roxbury Fire Department.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

A. Marie Maxim
COOPERSTOWN — A. Marie Maxim, 100, of The Meadows, Cooperstown died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998.

She was born March 14, 1897 in Logan, Ohio, the daughter of Wesley J. and Charity L. (Hoskins) Price.

Marie was married to Harold Maxim on Oct. 31, 1922. Mr. Maxim died in 1961.

Marie had lived and worked in and around the Oneonta area for nearly 60 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Jane McQuirt of Hillard, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Raymond Jr. and Robert of Utica, Larry, Sharon and Linda of Tampa, Fla. and Dorothy and Patricia of Columbus, Ohio; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral services at Marie's request.

Mrs. Maxim has been cremated and her cremains will be placed in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta in the spring of 1998.

There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.

Cremation arrangements by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.
