Lois Ann Postiglion
CHERRY VALLEY — Mrs. Lois Ann Postiglion, 76, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 1998 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after being stricken at home.

She was born April 7, 1921 in Cooperstown, the daughter of John and Agnes (Wheeler) Hibbard. She graduated from Cooperstown Central School. On Jan. 17, 1941, she married Albert J. Postiglion in Cherry Valley.

Mrs. Postiglion was a homemaker and a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Cherry Valley.

Mrs. Postiglion is survived by her husband, Albert J. Postiglion of Cherry Valley; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Barbara Postiglion of Cold Brook; a sister, Margarite Jackson of Mohawk; two sisters-in-law, Lena Grossi and Marion Carrollo, both of Utica; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and several close friends, including a special friend, Kathy West.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Judson Hibbard and Duwane Hibbard and two sisters, Julia Pearcey and Nellie Webster.

There will be a graveside service, to be announced, in the spring at the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Alvin Burnworth, pastor of the Grace Episcopal Church, Cherry Valley, officiating.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

Contributions in Mrs. Postiglion's memory may be made to the Cherry Valley Emergency Squad.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Arlene A. Nutt
EDMESTON — Arlene A. Nutt, 70, of Edmeston, died Friday, March 6, 1998 at MIB Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born May 28, 1927 in Litchfield, the daughter of Grove and Alice (Morris) Wilkinson. She married Richard W. Nutt on May 18, 1944 at home in Edmeston.

Arlene was a homemaker, she was a member of the VFW and DAV Auxiliary. She was an avid reader before her eyes failed her. She will be remembered as the rod that ran the family, always active in her children's best interest. Arlene loved farming and caring for her animals.

She is survived by her six sons and their spouses, John and Karen Nutt of West Exeter, Richard Nutt Jr. of Burlington Flats, Stevon and Brenda Nutt of West Exeter, Owen and Cindy Nutt of Leonardsville, Timothy Nutt of Edmeston and Arleigh Nutt of Edmeston; her daughter and spouse, Diane and Ken Andela of Cassville; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; her sisters, Nellie Sprague and Esther Looman; and her brother, Earl Wilkinson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 9, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Second Baptist Church, Edmeston, with the Rev. John Buskey officiating.

Interment will take place in the spring at Edmeston Union Cemetery.

Calling hours are Sunday, March 8, 1998 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Clarence L. Borst
COBLESKILL — Clarence L. Borst, 87, of Hammerstone Village Apartments, formerly of Seward, died Thursday at his residence after a long illness.

Mr. Borst was born Aug. 14, 1910 in Sharon Springs, the son of Lloyd and Grace (Putnam) Borst.

Mr. Borst owned and operated Borst Refrigeration of Seward, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Seward all his life, and for many years had served as treasurer. He was also a member of the former Seward Oddfellows.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine (Empie) Borst, whom he married Oct. 19, 1940; two daughters, Marlene Popnik of Harrisburg, Pa., and Mary Lou Bond of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother, Eugene Borst of Albany; one granddaughter, Dawn Dumas of Miami, Fla.; one grandson, Todd Slater of Florida and one great-granddaughter, Cindy Dumas of Miami, Fla.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 9 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Seward with the Rev. Paul Messner, pastor, officiating.

Calling hours will be from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, March 8 at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill.

Spring interment will be in the Slate Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, c/o Mrs. Barbara Howell, RD 2, Cobleskill, N.Y. 12043.

Harold L. Heesh
BAINBRIDGE — Harold L. Heesh, 68, of Valley View Road, Bainbridge, passed away peacefully Friday, March 6, 1998 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.

Harold was born March 25, 1929 to William C. and Edna Bell Heesh in Delhi, and married Marlene Hall on July 4, 1954 in Bainbridge.

He served his country through the United States Air Force from 1948-1952.

He retired from E.C.D. of Bendix as a machinist in May of 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marlene Heesh of Bainbridge; a son, Russell L. Heesh of Masonville; a stepson and his wife, James and Beverly Barre of Coventry; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Clifford Burton of Arkansas; a brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Willie M. Heesh of Binghamton; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, George and Charles.

Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Delaware County Branch, P.O. Box 315, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements were made by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Lora B. Smith
LAKELAND, Fla. — Mrs. Lora B. Smith, 84, died Thursday, March 5, 1998 at her son's residence in Lakeland, Fla.

She was born in Westford June 22, 1913, moving to Lakeland, Fla., from Schenevus in 1973.

Mrs. Smith was a bookkeeper and attended Cleveland Heights Baptist Church, Lakeland, Fla.

Survivors include her sons, Frederick M. Smith of Lakeland, Fla., and Lynn C. Smith of Canada; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Menzo J. Smith, in 1994.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. March 9, 1998 at the Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, March 8 at the funeral chapel.

Helen Mildred Anteman
EAST WORCESTER — Helen Mildred Anteman, 81, of East Worcester, died Saturday, March 7, 1998 at her residence.

She was born Aug. 3, 1916 in Schenevus, the daughter of Herman and Myrtle (Palmater) Hill. She married William H. Anteman June 27, 1937 in Schenevus.

Mrs. Anteman was a lifelong area resident, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member and past president of the Otsego and East Worcester Fire Auxiliary, a Girl Scout Leader and a member of the East Worcester Home Bureau.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William H. Anteman of East Worcester; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry W. and Pennie Anteman of East Worcester; two daughters and a son-in-law, Joanne E. and Nellis Duesler of East Worcester and Betty Hill of Hummelstown, Pa.; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Ester Stearns and Enda and John Struckle, all of Albuquerque, N.M., Flossie Paulin of Worcester and Ruth Fowler of Albany; a brother, Donald Hill of Hummelstown, Pa.; and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Nellie (Hill) Schrader.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 1998 at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester. The Rev. Dr. George I. Goodwin Sr., retired, will officiate.

Burial will be in the East Worcester Cemetery at a later date.

Calling hours will be today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mrs. Anteman to the Catskill Area Hospice Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Kathy Cole Fairbairn
MARGARETVILLE — Kathy Cole Fairbairn, 47, of Southside Road, Margaretville, died March 8, 1998 at her home.

She was born June 8, 1950 in Freeport Long Island, the daughter of Robert Cole and Ethel Jackson. She married Richard Fairbairn Oct. 15, 1993 in Margaretville.

Mrs. Fairbairn was the owner and operator of the Bull Run Tavern in Margaretville and in prior years had worked for several area business establishments.

She was a member of the Empire State Restaurant Association and the IOOB's Club.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Fairbairn of Margaretville; a son, Donald Truesdell of Prattsville; a daughter, Stacy Truesdell of Margaretville; a special granddaughter, Brandi Balcom of Margaretville; her mother and father, Robert and Ethel Cole of Roxbury; three stepchildren, Rowann Bias of Italy, Christopher Fairbairn of Halcottsville and Regan Fairbairn of Louisville, Ky.; one step-granddaughter, Desire Fairbairn; one brother, Robert Cole of Denver; one sister, Karen Constable of Bainbridge; stepbrother, Gary Friend of Pocano, Pa.; nieces and nephews, Christopher, Ryan and Justin; Stephanie, Gary, Amanda and Robert; a special friend, Della Davis of Margaretville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fairbairn of Margaretville; sister-in-law, Mrs. Carol DeSilva of Oneonta.

She was predeceased by one sister, Lynn Rivenburgh who died May 25, 1973.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 1998 at the United Methodist Church in Margaretville with the Rev. Dr. George Carpenter officiating.

Burial will be in the Margaretville Cemetery, Margaretville.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 10, 1998 from 7-9 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

In memory of Kathy Fairbairn, contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Harold Richard Fife
SIDNEY — Harold Richard Fife, 68, of Sidney, died Saturday afternoon, March 7, 1998 at the Sidney Hospital.

Harold was born Sept. 12, 1929 in Deposit, the son of Carl and Rubie (Gardinier) Fife. Mr. Fife married Betty Hess on June 27, 1949 in Sidney.

Harold was a retired mail carrier working out of the Sidney Post Office. He was a former member of the Sidney Moose Club.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty Fife of Sidney; five children, Richard Fife of Bainbridge, Debra Perry of Sidney, Tonia Fife of Sidney, Tara Ellis of Masonville and Kenneth Fife of Sidney; 11 grandchildren, Barbara Ann Fife, Christina Fife, Richard Fife Jr., Joshua Fife, Veronica Sands, Heather Lynn Perry, Timothy Fife Jr., Marceia Lynn Hunt, Robert Ellis Jr., Randy Ellis and Matthew Frost; two great grandchildren, Michael V. and Shauna Michele Jones; a sister, Elinor Kern of Hawaii; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 1998 at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. David Fraher, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Sidney, officiating.

Mr. Fife will be placed in the Bookhout private vault to await burial in the spring at Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta and Otego.

Catherine Peters Harry
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Catherine Peters Harry, 77, formerly of Main Street, Cooperstown, died early Saturday morning, March 7, 1998 at The Meadows.

She was born Nov. 23, 1920 in Paterson, N.J., a daughter of Franklin Allen and Carolyn (Van Winkle) Peters. She married Richard S. Harry Feb. 22, 1941 in Paterson, N.J.

Catherine was raised in Paterson, N.J. and later went on to become an alumnus of Douglas College in New Brunswick, N.J. Actively involved with the arts, she was chairwoman of the community concerts in Hawthorne. Throughout her life, she was a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross and served as the swimming program director for many years while in New Jersey.

In 1972, she and her husband moved to Cooperstown where she was also active in the community and was proprietor of a Main Street gift store called Around the House.

Mrs. Harry was of the Episcopalian faith and was a member of Christ Church in Cooperstown.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard, of Cooperstown; two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah A. Harry of Manhattan and Martha Daverio and her husband, Terry of Lincroft, N.J.; also one nephew, William Peters of Vermont.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations, may be made to the American Red Cross, Otsego County Chapter, 101 Main St., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326 or to the Alzheimer Association, Northeastern New York Chapter, Leatherstocking Branch, P.O. Box 1364, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home, Cooperstown.

Joan Potter Darby Munkenbeck
ITHACA — Joan Potter Darby Munkenbeck passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 1998.

Joan was born to Esther Bollenhagen Potter Darby and Samuel Edgar Darby Jr. on July 17, 1918.

After the death of her mother, her family reformed with the addition of her stepmother, Estelle, as well as a stepbrother, Jack (Clarke), stepsister, Betty (Hohnhorst) and half sister, Connie (Moore). Her childhood was spent with loving family in East Orange, N.J., Syracuse, Cobleskill and Scarsdale. Summers were spent in Greenport and Nassau Point, Long Island.

A graduate of Emma Willard ('37), Pine Manor ('39) and Syracuse University ('41), she worked in retail and as a nurse's aide prior to sailing off to a new life in partnership with Russell Walker Munkenbeck. As their small family grew, they moved from Flatbush to Garden City and finally in 1956 to a chicken farm in Westville, five miles from Milford.

She devoted her life to the well-being of her family and her community. Joan was a regent in the DAR, a 4-H leader and active in the Grange, American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star, all while acting as a chauffeur and coach to her very active children.

Just when her children left the farm and the animal caretaking requirements could be reduced, she developed her own flock of Tunis sheep and won several prizes with them at local fairs.

She is survived by her brother, Jack Clarke; daughters, Nancy W. Munkenbeck, Karen E.M. Trotter and husband Don, Dorothy J.M. Fragaszy and husband Rick and grandchildren, Darby K. Wallace, Joan T. Fragaszy, Ellen B. Fragaszy and Stephen R. Fragaszy.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, Russell; an infant, Connie; daughter, Lynne D.M. Wallace; son-in-law, Jim W. Wallace and sisters, Connie and Betty.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held in July (tentatively July 11) at the farm in Westville.

In consideration of her all-encompassing love of animals, donations in memory of Joan may be made to the Peace Plantation of Walton, N.Y. c/o the Peace Plantation National Office, 521-A East Market St., Leesburg, Va. 22075.
