Wanda Holbrook Slade Kerr
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Mrs. Wanda Holbrook Slade Kerr, a resident of Clemmons Village, Clemmons, N.C., died Monday, March 16, 1998.

Mrs. Kerr was born on Oct. 18, 1907 in Hartwick Seminary.

She lived most of her life in Cooperstown.

Mrs. Kerr was a graduate of Emerson College of Boston. She worked 21 years at the County Clerk's Office of Cooperstown and was a longtime employee of the New York State Historical Association.

She received a presidential citation for 45 years of service in the New York Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mrs. Kerr is preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford Slade and William A. Kerr, her second husband of 29 years who died at Clemmons Village on April 23, 1967.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Barbara Kerr Kegnatz of Winston-Salem; a brother, Bernard Holbrook of Cooperstown; a stepdaughter-in-law, Suzanne M. Kerr of San Diego, Calif.; six stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandson; two nephews and a niece.

Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Cooperstown.

Thomas Bache
COOPERSTOWN — Mr. Thomas Bache, 87, of Cooperstown and formerly of Oneonta, died Saturday, March 21, 1998 at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born May 6, 1910 in Natick, Mass., the son of Thomas Edward and Mary (Lane) Bache.

During his working years, Mr. Bache was a Line Foreman for New York Telephone Company. He was a member of the Elbert N. Patton Post No. 1206, Oneonta.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John and Loretta and Bache of Seminole, Fla.

A funeral and committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 1998 from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. The Rev. Fred Albrecht, pastor of the Otego United Methodist Church, Otego, will officiate.

Mr. Bache will be placed in the Bookhout Funeral Home private vault to await spring burial in Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta from 10 a.m.-service time on Wednesday, March 25.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Edward M. Kuhne
DELHI — Edward M. Kuhne, 80, of Delhi, died March 22, at the O'Connor Hospital, Delhi.

He was born Aug. 24, 1917, in North Bellmore, L.I., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kuhne.

He was married to Oline Kuhne, who predeceased him Dec. 1, 1982.

Mr. Kuhne was formerly employed by Grumman Air Corp. of Bellmore, L.I.

He was active with the Donald W. Gleason American Legion Post No. 190 of Delhi.

Surviving are two sisters, Jeanette Stanford of Wantagh, L.I. and Janice Armstrong of Delhi.

A graveside service will be held in the spring in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Cremation was at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Moxley-McCall Funeral Home, Delhi.

Elisabeth C. (Betsy) Daly
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Elisabeth C. (Betsy) Daly, 78, of 7 Church St., died Monday, March 23, 1998 in her home.

She was born on Feb. 18, 1920 in Springfield, Mass., the daughter of the late Howard E. and Anna Risley Craft.

A graduate of Classical High School in Springfield, Mass., she went on to Russell Sage College and graduated with the class of 1941 with a bachelor's of science in nursing.

Betsy married John F. Daly of Herkimer in 1942, a loving and devoted union of 29 years until his passing in February of 1971.

She had worked as a registered nurse at Bassett Healthcare, Otsego County Head Start and Folts Home.

For 12 years she was the administrator of the Mohawk Homestead, retiring in 1989.

Betsy was an active and devoted member of the Methodist Church, which later merged into the Church of Christ Uniting. She had served on its governing boards and was a member and officer of the Women's Guild for 17 years.

She was a 4-H leader and also served on the Herkimer County Cooperative Extension Board. She was a charter board member of the Leatherstocking Interfaith Caregivers, providing help to the elderly and disabled in the Richfield Springs area.

The Richfield Springs Rotary Club honored her with their Citizen of the Year award in 1994. In 1997 the Richfield Area Chamber of Commerce presented her with the Jim Neushel Memorial Award for Community Service.

Betsy was the Utica Observer-Dispatch's Mother of the Year in 1970 and was chairman of the Red Cross blood drive in Richfield for six years.

Surviving are six daughters and a son, Mary Ann Fater of Lyons Fall, Ellen J. Daly of Ensenda, Mexico, John F. Daly Jr. of Newark Valley, Susan E. Reiter and her husband Alan of Gaithersburg, Md., Catherine C. Daly of Mohawk, Barbara Homyk and her husband, Alan of Hopewell Junction, Janet D. Daly of Scotia and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Church of Christ Uniting with the Rev. John Wilde, pastor officiating.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 West James St., Richfield Springs.

Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of the Church of Christ Uniting. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Ernest H. Vredenburgh
DELHI — Ernest H. Vredenburgh, 69, of Delview Terrace, Delhi, passed away Monday, March 23 on arrival at O'Connor Hospital, Delhi.

He was born May 3, 1928 in the town of Middletown, the son of Andrew and Nellie (Shultis) Vredenburgh.

He married Ruth C. Low on Oct. 12, 1946 in Margaretville.

Mr. Vredenburgh was a former car salesman for 37 years. He was associated with Tietbohls as a salesman, then dealer with the dealership sold to R.H. Lewis and Son. He took the position of manager at Pinders and Son in Grand Gorge until his retirement in 1990.

Mr. Vredenburgh was a member and past member of Delhi Lodge No. 439 F and AM, Royal Arch Masons of Margaretville, member of Watauga Chapter No. 315, Delhi and Belleayre Chapter No. 333 and Willowemac-Downsville Chapter No. 304. In 1990 he served as past associate grand sentinel.

He was also chairman of the Delhi Village Planning Board, member and treasurer of the Delhi Town Republican Committee, former member of the Arkville Fire Department and a member of the United Ministry Church, Delhi.

Mr. Vredenburgh is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Vredenburgh of Delhi; a daughter, Carolyn Ferguson of Delhi and a son, Steven Vredenburgh of Newport News, Va.; two grandchildren, Pamela Furgerson of Delhi and Jay B. Furgerson of Quantico, Va. and two great-grandchilden, Ashley Hogan and Rourke Fergerson; a sister-in-law, Edith Low of Rock Hill, S.C. and Grace Vredenburgh of Chenango Forks. Also several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Vredenburgh was predeceased by his father and mother and a brother, M. Andrew Vredenburgh.

Masonic and Eastern Star services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28 at the United Ministry Church, Delhi, followed by a memorial service with the Rev. Dr. Mark Chatterton, pastor.

Friends may call at the Moxley-McCall Funeral Home, Friday from 7-9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Cremation was at the convenience of the family.

Memorials in the name of Ernest Vredenburgh may be made to the United Ministry Church, Delhi.

Arrangements are by the Moxley-McCall Funeral Home, Delhi.

Barbara E. (Bobbie) Canfield
WELLS BRIDGE — Barbara E. (Bobbie) Canfield, 69, of Wells Bridge died Nov. 28, 1997 at Fox Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born May 21, 1928, the daughter of Edgar and Josephine (Acker) Lawyer.

Mrs. Canfield was employed at the Otsego Hotel in Cooperstown for five years prior to her illness and prior to that time was a longtime employee of Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Oneonta and was a dedicated mother and grandmother.

She is survived by one daughter, Cathy Lee Reynolds; two sons, Frederick J. Canfield and Richard T. Canfield, all of Oneonta; her mother, Josephine Lawyer of Cobleskill; nine grandchildren; one sister, Ester Miller of Cobleskill and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father, Edgar Lawyer, and a sister, Ardy Miller.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. today at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta with the Rev. Marsha Irmer, pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement, officiating.

Burial will be later at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call at the funeral home today two hours prior to service time when the family will be receiving friends.

Harold `Einar' Haslun
SUMMIT — Harold "Einar" Haslun, 72, of Wharton Hollow Road, Summit, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997 at the Waterbury Hospital at Waterbury, Conn.

He was born Oct. 14, 1925 in Summit, the son of Harold A. and Frances (Crapser) Haslun. He was married to Josephine Mattice May 15, 1948 in Summit.

Einar was a lifelong resident of Summit, where he was a dairy farmer for many years until he retired in 1988. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed snowmobiling and dancing. Einar and Josephine spent the last several months with their daughter in Southbury, Conn. while he was battling his illness.

He is survived by his wife Josephine Haslun of Summit; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette F. and Larry J. Becker of Southbury, Conn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen E. and Kelly Haslun of Craryville; three grandsons, Michael, Kevin and Darrell Becker; three granddaughters, Sarah, Melissa and Stephanie Haslun; a great granddaughter, Ashley Haslun; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Frank Koren of East Worcester; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Helen Haslun of Summit. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford with the Rev. Elliott Oakes, pastor of the Stamford Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Summit Cemetery in the spring.

Friends may call at their convenience at the Hall Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon and evening. The family wil be in attendance from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Einar's memory to The American Cancer Society, Southern District Office, 57 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford-Grand Gorge.

Fannie E. Monroe
SYRACUSE — Fannie E. Monroe, 97, formerly of Beaver Street, Cooperstown, died Saturday in Syracuse.

Mrs. Monroe was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Cooperstown.

She was the widow of Earl, who died in 1977.

Surviving are a son, Frederick of Camillus; a daughter Martha Manolescu; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Burns-Garfield Funeral Home in Syracuse. Calling hours will be Tuesday at the funeral home, 3175 East Genesee St., Syracuse.

Burial will be in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Margaret A. Perkins
NEW BERLIN — Margaret A. Perkins, 77, of New Berlin, died Nov. 29, 1997 in Norwich.

She was born Feb. 16, 1920 in Staunton, Va., the daughter of Ralph and Gladys (Tanksley) Holdridge and spent her childhood in Richmond, Va.

Margaret was a child care provider in New Berlin and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich.

Survivors include her children, Roger and Sally Adams of New Berlin; Terry and Marsha Adams of Killeen, Texas; Debbie and John Williams of Norwich and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by one brother, John Tanksley.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Dakin Funeral Home in New Berlin, with the Rev. Pastor Brian Conover and the Rev. Pastor David Strope officiating. Viewing will be at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 at the Dakin Funeral Home in New Berlin. Interment will be in Columbus Corners Cemetery, South Edmeston.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Chenango County Hospice.

Lynetta F. Yurenka
BURLINGTON — Lynetta F. Yurenka, 85, of Burlington died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997 at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born Aug. 18, 1912 in Pittsfield, the daughter of Adolph and Elizabeth (Wakelee) Van Warner.

She married Daniel Yurenka May 7, 1938 in Garrattsville.

Lynetta was a beautician, but more importantly a homemaker. She was a devoted wife and mother who concentrated on her family by providing them with a home that was aesthetically pleasing and surrounded with love.

She was a member of the Garrattsville Women's Club, the Home Bureau and C.J.'s Golf Club.

She is survived by her husband Daniel of 59 years; her children and their spouses, Judith Nathan and special friend, Burt McReynolds of Albuquerque, N.M. and Daniel Rexford and Faith Yurenka of Garrattsville; her grandchildren, Corbin Nathan and his wife Susan of Washington, D.C., Brandon Nathan of Los Angeles, Calif., Ann A. Yurenka of Monticello and Steve Yurenka of Garrattsville; her great-grandchildren, Kayla and Ashley Eldred; her four sisters, Beatrice Leach of New Berlin, Dorothy Diotte of The Meadows, Betty Watson of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Beverly Corcoran of Pittsburg, Kan. and her brother, Richard Van Warner of Moravia.
