Pfaeffle
ANALOMINK, Pa. — Kathleen W. McCoy Pfaeffle, 34, of Analomink, Pa. died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997 in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, Pa. She was the wife of Mark D. Pfaeffle at home.

Born in Smithtown, she was the daughter of Frank and Veronica (Barry) McCoy of Richfield Springs.

She was a resident of Analomink for the past three years and prior to that lived in the St. James area. She was a 1981 graduate of Smithtown East High School and a graduate of Herkimer County Community College with a degree in Travel and Tourism.

For the past three years she also waitressed at the Budget Motel in East Stroudsburg. She was a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church of East Stroudsburg.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by three sisters, Patricia Allen of Richfield Springs, Theresa McCoy of Brick, N.J. and Jane Murphy of Oaksville; four brothers, Richard McCoy of East Quogue, Long Island, Thomas McCoy of Norwich, John McCoy of Lawrenceville, N.J. and James McCoy of Palm Coast, Fla., and 12 nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. from St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg with the Rev. Father John A. Bergamo as celebrant.

Burial will be in the gate of heaven section of Laurelwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be today and Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 North 9th St. Stroudsburg, with a prayer service on Tuesday evening.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, RD2 Box 2138, Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360.

Nell H. Shedrowitz
LAKELAND, Fla. — Mrs. Nell Helen Shedrowitz, 82, of Lakeland, Fla. died Dec. 12, 1997 at Bartow Center Genesis Eldercare.

She was born Oct. 28, 1915 in Berwick, Penn.

Mr. and Mrs. Shedrowitz moved to Lakeland, Fla. from Delhi about 15 years ago. Mrs. Shedrowitz was a homemaker and of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her husband, Israel Shedrowitz of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter, Sheila Duncan of Lakeland, Fla.; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. today at the Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel, 2125 S. Bartow Highway, Lakeland, Fla.

Mary W. Wortman
MIDDLEFIELD — Mrs. Mary W. Wortman, 78, of Middlefield, passed away at Bassett Healthcare on Friday, Dec. 12, 1997. Mrs. Wortman was born Aug. 10, 1919 in Germany, the daughter of Gustav and Celia (Weidler) Wiegand.

After attending schools in Germany, Mrs. Wortman immigrated to New York City in the early 1930s. Mrs. Wortman married Frederick G. Wortman Jan. 6, 1939; he predeceased her on March 27, 1995. She worked as an account clerk at Morgan Guartee Trust Company on Wall Street for many years.

In 1975, Mrs. Wortman and her husband moved to Middlefield, where she enjoyed being a homemaker, an avid reader and gardener. She was a member of the Village of Cooperstown Library and the Senior Citizens Group and Nutrition Center.

Mrs. Wortman is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Janet Wortman of Seabrook, Texas; five grandchildren, Steven Wortman of Mays Landing, N.J., Kim Bickford of Northridge, Calif., Jennifer Wortman of Smithville, N.J., Christine and Joy Heaton of Ocean City, N.J. and two great grandchildren, Blake Beckford of Northridge, Calif. and Christian McDermott of Smithville, N.J.; a brother, Henry Wiegand of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Elizabeth MacDowell of Monmouth Junction and Julia Erickson of Tom's River, N.J.; many nieces and nephews, whom are among, Mark and Lynn MacDowell of Cherry Hill, N.J. and Susan and John Patucek of Brick Township, N.J.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997 at 9 a.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. Father John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Church, officiating.

Calling hours are today at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown from 7-9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

She will be placed in the Tillapaugh Funeral Home receiving vault for later burial in the spring at Middlefield Cemetery.

Funeral services are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Jennie Cecilia Olsen
SPRINGFIELD — Mrs. Jennie Cecilia Olsen, 90, of St. James, Long Island and Main Street, Dansville, died Sunday morning, Dec. 14, 1997 at the home of her daughter in Springfield.

She was born on Aug. 13, 1907 in Brooklyn, a daughter of Gustav and Cecilia (Tobiasen) Jensen. She married Peter Anker Olsen on April 3, 1928 in Brooklyn. Mr. Olsen died on Feb. 3, 1996.

Jean grew up in Brooklyn, where she lived until the 1960s, when she and her husband moved to St. James, Long Island. In 1991 they moved to Dansville and in 1994 she went to make her home with her daughter in Springfield.

Jean was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Long Island and Brooklyn-Bay Ridge Chapter No. 102, Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard P. and Bonnie Olsen of Dansville; one daughter, Mrs. Doris Johansen of Springfield; six grandchildren, Peter Edward Johansen, Carole Westerman, Arlene More and Susan Maldonado, all of Springfield, Clint Olsen and Lois Olsen, both of Dansville; 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Theodore Jensen in 1973; one sister, Ingrid Preus in 1987; and one grandson, John Johansen in 1980.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. this afternoon, Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997 at the Connell, Dow and Deysentoth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. Hans Irmer, pastoral care coordinator for Catskill Area Hospice, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Springfield Center Cemetery.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Evelyn D. Nielsen
ONEONTA — Evelyn D. Nielsen, 80, of Oneonta, died Dec. 14, 1997 at Fox Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born Feb. 1, 1917 in Davenport, the daughter of Stephen and Pearl (Crosby) Effner. She was first married to Paul Lockwood and later to Thomas Nielsen. She was predeceased by both her husbands.

Mrs. Nielsen was a self-employed interior decorator, having worked in the Oneonta area for several years prior to her retirement.

She was a member of the River Street Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Evie will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her many friends at New York State Electric & Gas Corp. Among other hobbies, Evie enjoyed baking. She was known as the pie lady at NYSEG for all the wonderful pies and cookies she would bring to share and sell. Evie was always in the holiday spirit; whatever the holiday, she always decorated and dressed up for it. Christmas was her favorite time. Just this past week she helped make and decorate the big Christmas tree at the Hampshire House, and was busy making her favorite little lambs to give to all the other residents.

She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Burdick of Sebring, Fla.; two sons, Paul Lockwood of San Marcos, Calif. and James Lockwood of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held later in the spring at the Glenwood Cemetery in Oneonta.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego County Office for the Aging, Senior Meals Program, County Office Building, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Funeral arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Robert J. Wenzel
BURLINGTON FLATS — Mr. Robert J. Wenzel, 79, of Burlington Flats, passed away at Bassett Hospital on Friday, Dec. 12, 1997. Mr. Wenzel was born in Brooklyn on April 19, 1918, the son of John and Anna Wenzel.

Mr. Wenzel moved to Catskill after attending school in Brooklyn. He was a tractor-trailer driver for Ryerson Steel of Chicago, Ill. Mr. Wenzel later moved to Burlington Flats, where he married Sarah Washburn on Nov. 19, 1977.

Mr. Wenzel is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sarah; a daughter and son-in-law, Mariann and Kenneth Heath of Pelham, N.H.; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Mary T. Wallace of Albany; nine grandchildren, Joanna and Daniel Heath of New Hampshire, Donald M., John L. Sara M. Mari G., Robert C., Richard F., and Meghan C. Wallace, all of Albany.

A funeral service will be at the St. Albans Angelican Church in Schuyler Lake on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 with the Rev. Father Albert Jungers, priest in charge of the St. Albans Angelican Church, officiating.

Calling hours for Mr. Wenzel will be Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997 from 4-8 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, when the family will be in attendance.

He will be placed in the Tillapaugh Funeral Home receiving vault for later burial in the spring at Burlington Flats Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Hillis Ivan Faulkner
NEW KINGSTON — Hillis Ivan Faulkner, 66, of New Kingston, died Dec. 13, 1997 at the home of his son at Marion.

He was born May 24, 1931 in Margaretville, the son of Ralph Faulkner and Helen Ruff.

Mr. Faulkner was in the Korean conflict from September 1949 until December 1953, serving in Korea from 1950-1952. For 20 years he worked for Hubbell Bros. in Utica installing guardrails. He then went to work for the town of Middletown Highway Department until retirement.

Mr. Faulkner enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Robert Faulkner of Marion; three daughters, Linda Gardner of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Barbara Faulkner of Saratoga and Nancy Walker of Clinton, Conn.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard and Douglas Faulkner of New Kingston; also nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997 at Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville, with the Rev. George Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in New Kingston Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours are Wednesday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

In memory of Hillis Faulkner, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society, Delhi.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Paul Donald Moore Jr.
GILBERTSVILLE — Paul Donald Moore Jr., 68, of Gilbertsville, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997 at his residence in Gilbertsville.

He was born July 3, 1929 in Norwich, the son of Paul D. and Mary (Heslop) Moore.

Following graduation from Syracuse University in 1950, he served in the chemical and radiological laboratories of the Army Chemical Corps during the Korean War.

Mr. Moore was a retired materials engineer for the former Bendix Corp. in Sidney. He was a member, former trustee and longtime treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville. He was past president and life member of the Gilbertsville Free Library and life member and former trustee of the Village Improvement Society.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia and Donald K. Adair Jr.; two nieces, Robbin Adair and Laurie Cordato; two great-nieces, Heather and Brianna; a great-nephew, Caleb Cordato; and a dear friend and companion, Muriel L. Whiteman.

There will be no calling hours and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville or the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Janeth M. Kurkowski
ONEONTA — Janeth M. Kurkowski, beloved mother and grandmother, walked with the Lord through Heaven's Gates on Dec. 4, 1997 after a lengthy illness.

At her request, there will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be planned in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Jennie Cecilia Olsen
SPRINGFIELD — Mrs. Jennie Cecilia Olsen, 90, formerly of St. James, Long Island and Main Street, Dansville, died Sunday morning, Dec. 14, 1997 at the home of her daughter in Springfield.

Denise Mary Mullinnex
ONEONTA — Miss Denise Mary Mullinnex, 33, of Oneonta, died Saturday evening, Dec. 13, 1997 at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, Oneonta.

She was born Aug. 12, 1964 in Walton, the daughter of Roger Gilbertson and Penny Mullinnex Darling. Denise was a homemaker in her own home and was a member of the Mountainview Social Club, Oneonta. She enjoyed embroidery as a pastime.

Denise is survived by her mother, Penny Darling of Hancock; stepfather, Ted Darling of Hancock; three brothers, Richard Carman of Coxsackie, Roger Gilbertson of Laurens and Eric Gilbertson of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two stepbrothers, Theodore G. Darling II of Endicott and James E. Darling of Hancock; a stepsister, Lucinda M. Darling of Roscoe; maternal grandmother, Katherine Dagostino of Walton; paternal step grandparents, Theodore and Virgina Darling of Hancock; also several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral and committal services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. The Rev. Judy Thistle, chaplain of A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, will officiate.

Denise will be placed in the Bookhout Funeral Home private vault to await spring burial in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin. There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Mary R. Hohreiter
BAINBRIDGE — Mary R. Hohreiter, 84, of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home, Norwich.

She was born Feb. 11, 1912 in Cham, Germany. Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine Holtzer Raab. On Nov. 29, 1929 she married Francis Joseph Hohreiter in Bainbridge. He predeceased her Aug. 14, 1994.

For 35 years, Mary was employed by American Plastics, Bainbridge. She retired in 1970 after 35 years with the company.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth Dicks of Bainbridge and Katherine and David Foster of Gonzales, La.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Hohreiter of Las Vegas, Nev. and Robert and Gay Hohreiter of San Angelo, Texas; a brother, Edward Raymond of Unadilla; also 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 1997 from St. John's Church, Bainbridge. The Rev. Father Donald Bourgeois, pastor, will be officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Friends are invited to call from 10 a.m.-noon on Friday at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Bainbridge Emergency Squad if desired.
