Anthony Richard Greene
MELBOURNE, Fla. — Anthony Richard Greene, 61, of 2481 Wolf Creek Dr., Melbourne, Fla., died Dec. 20, 1997 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla.

Born in Schenectady on Jan. 30, 1936, the son of Anthony Greene and Marian Peters, he moved to central Florida in 1970 from West Laurens.

Mr. Greene was a former produce manager and assistant manager for A & P Market and Williams Brothers IGA in Melbourne. He was also the full-time guardian for his aunt, Mary Rimkus. He enjoyed working with his hands on stonework and raising birds, tropical fish and Grekoe lizards.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Judith Greene of Melbourne Fla.; a daughter, Karen Jones of Melbourne, Fla.; a granddaughter, Khristal; his father and stepmother, Anthony and Jeanette Greene of Schenectady; a brother, Mark Greene of Schenectady; two sisters, Dale Micalizzi and Diane Madia, both of Schenectady; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Chapel, Melbourne, Fla., on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997 at 11 a.m. Calling hours will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

Orrin W. Hanford
ONEONTA — Mr. Orrin W. Hanford, 87, of Oneonta, died Saturday morning, Dec. 20, 1997 at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Jan. 11, 1910 in Delaware County in the township of Kortright, the son of Frank and Emma (Turner) Hanford.

Orrin W. Hanford and Phyllis (McLean) were united in marriage at East Meredith June 28, 1937. Mr. and Mrs. Hanford have been married for 60 years.

Mr. Hanford was a Delaware County native, having spent his earlier years in the East Meredith area. He attended schools at East Meredith and graduated from the former Davenport High School. For nearly 30 years he owned and operated the Hanford Homestead farm on Hanford Road, town of Kortright. For most of his adult life, he had resided in Oneonta. For a period of 34 years, he was employed at Bendix-Scintilla Plants at Sidney as a machinist. He retired from the company in 1976.

Since 1978, Mr. and Mrs. Hanford spent the winter months in Stuart, Fla., in recent years they had returned to Oneonta on a year-round basis.

Mr. Hanford was a longtime member of the River Street Baptist Church of Oneonta, and was also an associate member of the First United Methodist Church at Hobe-Sound, Fla. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Aerospace Workers Local 1529 at Sidney.

During his life he was a well-known and avid bowler both in Oneonta and Florida, and was also an avid fisherman in the area.

Mr. Hanford is survived by his wife, Mrs. Phyllis M. Hanford of Oneonta; three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Hetty) Adams of Hartwick Seminary, Mrs. Percy (Ruth) Decker of Syracuse and Mrs. Larry (Ethel) Gardner of Goodyear Lake, Maryland; a son, Mr. James W. and his wife Donna Hanford of Bloomville; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Hanford was predeceased by his parents, as well as two sisters, Ethel Hanford and Marian Foster, and one brother, Harry Hanford.

A service to memorialize Orrin W. Hanford will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23 in the River Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Melvin Farmer, pastor of the River Street Baptist Church, officiating.

Mr. Hanford will be cremated in Hillington Crematory, Morris. His ashes will be held in the Bookhout Funeral Home Private Vault to await burial at the Hanford burial site in East Meredith Cemetery, East Meredith.

Immediately following the service at River Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, a visitation and reception will be held for family and friends at the church parlors.

Floral offerings will be accepted at River Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 23.

Services are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

June Marie Hebbard
FRANKLIN — June Marie Hebbard, 72, of Franklin, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997 at her residence.

She was born Feb. 11, 1925 in South Ozone Park, the daughter of Alfred G. and Emma (Kiefer) Trudell. She married Merton Hebbard on Dec. 21, 1939 in Cooperstown.

Mrs. Hebbard moved to Franklin in 1946, and prior to that she lived in South Worcester, Unadilla, Norwich and Sidney. While living in Franklin, she was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church, and also was a 0ormer member of the grange.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Merton Hebbard of Franklin; her children and their spouses, Rodney and Sally Hebbard of Franklin, Gerald Merton and Jane Hebbard of Cary, N.C., Donald A. and Louise Hebbard of Treadwell and Randolph P. and Hon Ki Hebbard of Bainbridge. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hebbard requested cremation with no formal funeral service.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Walton Francis Heley Jr.
MARGARETVILLE — Long time community leader and code enforcement officer Walton Francis Heley Jr., died Saturday at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born July 10, 1921 at his family home in West Hartford, Conn., Mr. Heley was the son of Walton F. Heley and Elizabeth Veronica Gillen. He was graduated from Hall High School in West Hartford in 1939 and attended Lehigh College, from which he graduated in 1944. Mr. Heley enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a pilot with the 67th Squadron of the 433rd Troop Carrier Group. Most of his flying missions were in the jungles of New Guinea and he was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses and three air medals prior to his honorable discharge.

He married Donna Ruth Pflueger on Sept. 6, 1947 in Philadelphia. Mr. Heley purchased the H.J. Miller Insurance Agency in Margaretville and moved with his family to Arkville in 1954, and to Cemetery Road in Margaretville in 1959, where he lived until his death.

Mr. Heley owned and operated The Heley Agency Inc. until its sale in 1980. Long an advocate of local planning, he was instrumental in developing the first zoning and planning laws for the town of Middletown. After serving on the Planning Board for many years, he became the town's code enforcement officer, a position he held full time until September and part time until his death. Mr. Heley was one of the founders of the Margaretville Hospital Ambulance Squad, served as the squad's leader, and was honored for his service in 1980 when he was awarded the Keene Roadman Citizen of the Year award.

A member of the Arkville Fire Department during his earliest days in the community, Mr. Heley was a 39-year member of the Margaretville Fire Department, and served as both fire chief and as president of the department. He was an early and active member of the local chamber of commerce, helping to organize fairs and parades during the 1960s which led to the development of the annual fireman's field days carnival. He served on the Margaretville Central School Board of Education from 1964-1968 and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and of the American Legion.

Mr. Heley is survived by his four children, Walton F. (Skip) Heley III of Glastonbury, Conn., Joan Lawrence-Bauer of Oliverea, Karen H. Dietrich of Margaretville and Diane M.H. Munro of Sidney. He is also survived by two sisters, Ethel Zimmer and Grace Bigelow of West Hartford, Conn., a sister-in-law, Joan Pflueger Hartley of Narberth, Penn. and 11 grandchildren, Karen, Andrew and Matthew Heley of Glastonbury, Conn., Kathryn Lawrence of Storrs, Conn., Daniel Ballard Jr. of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., Danielle Ballard and Earl and Kim Dietrich of Margaretville and Robert, Ryan and Garrett Munro of Sidney; one great grandchild, Daniel Ballard III and nine nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by Donna, his wife of 49 years; two brothers, Robert and Richard Heley, and one sister, Margaret Heley Phelps.

Calling hours will be held today from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Purcell officiating. Burial will be in Sanford Cemetery, Margaretville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry H. Dietrich Memorial Fund at the Margaretville Central School, Margaretville, N.Y. 12455.

Clara Jean Lucker
BAINBRIDGE — Clara Jean Lucker, 64, of 37 Bixby St., Bainbridge, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, Dec. 19, 1997 at her residence.

She was born Sept. 2, 1933 in Dunmore, Penn. Jean was the daughter of Charles and Ann Ashman Praefke. On Feb. 27, 1954 she married Edward Lucker in Binghamton. For several years, Jean was employed by Amphenol Corp. in Sidney.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Douglas Rice of Afton and Nancy and James Murwin of Bainbridge; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Katherine Lucker of Bainbridge; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Janette Praefke of Florida and Chris and Rita Praefke of Conklin; also eight grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held at noon Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997 from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. The Rev. Father Mark Giroux, rector of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Chenango Bridge will officiate.

Burial will be held at the families' convenience in the Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott.

Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Bainbridge Fire Department or Bainbridge Emergency Squad, if so desired.

Victoria Miglianti
OTEGO — Victoria Miglianti, 43, of Otego died suddenly Saturday evening, Dec. 20, 1997 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born Sept. 3, 1954 in Stamford, the daughter of Frederick J. and Joan A. (Carraher) Olsen.

Vicky was a caseworker for the Delaware County Social Services Department at Delhi. A resident of Otego for the last seven years, she previously had lived in Stamford. She was a graduate of South Kortright Central School and had a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in counseling from the State University College at Oneonta.

Vicky also had an associate's degree in Veterinarian Science from the State University College of Technology at Delhi. She was a member of the American Counselors Association and Psi Chi Honor Society for psychology majors. She enjoyed handicrafts, especially quilting and needlepoint.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael Miglianti of Otego and a student at SUCO, Oneonta and Kevin Miglianti of Otego and a student at the State University College at Plattsburgh, whom she raised with a lot of love and sacrifice; her mother, Joan Olsen of South Kortright; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Mark Schuman of Otego; a niece and nephew, Amanda and Christopher Schuman of Otego and many close and dear friends.

A funeral service will be held at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego, Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Paul Roman of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating.

Burial will be private at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23 prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to either the Otego Emergency Squad, River Street, Otego, N.Y. 13825 or to the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club, River Street, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in memory of Victoria Miglianti.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Mary Belle (Scott) Sawyer Truscott

AVON — Mary Belle (Scott) Sawyer Truscott, 92, of Terrace Drive, Avon, wife of the late Harold Truscott, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997 at Avon Health Center.

She was born April 2, 1905 in Andes, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Brisbane) Scott and had lived in Oneonta prior to moving to West Caldwell, N.J., where she resided for 34 years, coming to Avon seven years ago.

She was a graduate of The Normal School in Oneonta and Albany State Teachers College, class of 1927. Mrs. Truscott was a school teacher in the Andes School System for several years and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and the Third Presbyterian Church, Newark, N.J.

Mary loved people and took great pride in taking care of them over the years.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Pappalardo and her husband John Pappalardo, DMD, of Avon; a son, Robert Sawyer of Greenlawn, Long Island; a sister, Mildred Forman of Delhi; three granddaughters, Christine Greif and her husband Robert of Farmington, Susan Pappalardo and her husband Brad Weed of Seattle, Wash., Heather Sawyer Sekinger, MD, and her husband Gary of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a grandson, David Pappalardo and his wife Amy of Farmington. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Roscoe Sawyer, and a daughter-in-law, Joan.

Private funeral services will be at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton, Conn. Burial will be in Andes Cemetery, Andes. There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to Team Christine Recovery Fund, c/o The Simsbury Bank, 981 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, Conn. 06070-1874.

Mabel Wagner Atwell
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Mabel Wagner Atwell, 86, of Cooperstown, died early Saturday morning, Dec. 20, 1997 at the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home in Cooperstown.

She was born on March 22, 1911 in Phoenixville, Pa. She married Robert Murdock Atwell on Aug. 6. 1938 in Phoenixville, Pa. Mr. Atwell died on July 17, 1991.

A lifelong school teacher, Mrs. Atwell attended Syracuse University and graduated from the School of Speech and English at the university in 1934. She went on to teach from 1934 to 1972 at the Cooperstown High School, where she was also head of the English Department. She was particularly proud of the drama award given in her name each year at the Cooperstown Central School to the senior who makes the greatest contribution to the school in the area of stage performance.

Mrs. Atwell was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Cooperstown and was active on the church flower committee. She was also a member emeritus of the New York State Speech and Communication Association and the Auxiliary at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Neal and Joseph E. Franklin Jr. of Evansville, Ind.; four grandchildren, Joseph E. Franklin III, Pamela A. Grizzel, Kathryn N. Redman and Ellen W. Franklin; one great-granddaughter, Sarah K. Redman; and one cousin, Andrew Harris of Wayne, Pa. She was predeceased by one son, Robert W. Atwell, who was killed in Vietnam in 1968.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997 at Christ Episcopal Church in Cooperstown with the Very Rev. Douglas C. Smith, rector, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

At the request of the family there will be no calling hours.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Robert V. Aitken
DELHI — Robert V. Aitken, 61, of San Bernardino, Calif., died Dec. 6, 1997 following heart surgery.

He was born March 26, 1936 in Delhi to Margaret and Harold Aitken.

He graduated from Delaware Academy and the State University at Delhi and worked as a construction inspector in California.

Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Patricia, son Mark, and two grandchildren in California; brothers, Harold Aitken and his wife Linda of Delhi, Richard Aitken and his wife Bonnie of Meridale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment was at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.

William E. Hannigan
SCHENEVUS — William E. Hannigan, 93, of Schenevus, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997 at his residence.

He was born April 19, 1904 at Fall River, Mass., the son of Thomas and Mary Hannigan. He married Barbara Bettine on Sept. 19, 1959 in Dumont, N.J.

Mr. Hannigan served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as an airplane and engine mechanic. He attained the rank of staff sergeant.

In the 1950s, Mr. Hannigan moved to Schenevus from New York City where he was a forman with the NYC Sanitation Department. While living in Schenevus, he was employed with Agway Farm Supply in Gallupvile and Schenevus.

Mr. Hannigan was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Schenevus, the Elks Club in Oneonta and the Worcester American Legion Post 1584.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara B. Hannigan of Schenevus; a stepsister, the Sister Delores Cornelius of Riverhead, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Schenevus. The Rev. William Crandall, pastor, will be celebrant.

There will be a military committal service in the Schenevus Cemetery at a later date.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 26, 1997 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus. There will be a recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mr. Hannigan to the Catskill Area Hospice Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, Main Street, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.

Funeral arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Iva Richards
ONEONTA — Mrs. Iva Richards, 93, of Oneonta, went to be with her Lord Dec. 21, 1997 from the Oneonta Nursing Home.

She was born July 10, 1904 in Hartwick, the daughter of Edward Eldred and Rose Truax.

Iva married Edward H. Richards on Aug. 29, 1921 at the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown. They were married for 51 years until Edward's death on Jan. 28, 1973.

During World War II, Iva worked at the MCA Plant, which was on Dietz Street. Mrs. Richards was the oldest living member of the West End Community Baptist Church and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and Pulpit Committee of the church.

Mrs. Richards is survived by two sons, Edward Richards of Cooperstown and Ronald Richards of Oneonta; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carol Richards of Dalton, Pa.; a son-in-law, Jim Ritchko of Oneonta; four sisters, Mrs. Lillian Marcello of Rochester, Mrs. Betty Rudolph of Ithaca, Mrs. Edna Gobel of Vermont and Mrs. Christina Lincourt of Rochester; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Richards was predeceased by two children, Mrs. Beverly Ritchko and the Rev. Robert Richards, also one grandson, Jeffrey Richards.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997 at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Keith VanDewerker, pastor of the West End Community Baptist Church, officiating.

Mrs. Richards will be placed in the Bookhout Private Vault to await burial in the spring at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Bookhout Funeral Home 2 p.m. Saturday until service time.
