Donald W. Stanton
ONEONTA — Mr. Donald W. Stanton, 71, of Oneonta, died Thursday afternoon, Dec. 25, 1997 at his daughter's home in Edmeston.

He was the son of Donald F. and Emily (Ward) Stanton. Don married the former Lois Wagner on June 19, 1944 in Carbondale, Pa.

He was a World War II United States Air Force veteran and had been employed as a machinist and assembler for Bendix Corp., Sidney, from November 1952 until his retirement Oct. 25, 1977. Prior to moving to Oneonta in 1952, Don was employed by the D and H Railroad Co. in Carbondale, Pa. He was a member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church and was a member of the church's Stain Glass Class. He was also a member of Local 1529 International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers at Sidney as well as serving as a trustee and on the Grievance Committee. Don was a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling League and also bred and raised rabbits as well as having judged them. He enjoyed collecting H.O. scale model trains as a pastime.

Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lois Wagner Stanton of Oneonta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald C. and Mona Stanton of West Laurens and Joseph W. and Barbara Stanton of Otego; one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Judith) Bice of Edmeston; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Lois) Benjamin of Newhall, Calif. and Mrs. John "Jack" (Nancy) Johnston of Santa Maria, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Scott Stanton of Oneonta, Christine Stanton of Florida, Lori Mannina and Kevin Stanton both of Otego, Stephanie Ray, Richard Carey and Kimberly Anderson, all of New Berlin. Also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate the life of Donald W. Stanton will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. The Rev. Stephen Heiss, pastor of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, will officiate. Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 prior to the service when the family will be present at the funeral home.

Mr. Stanton will be created and his ashes will be buried in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta in the spring. The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Elm Park United Methodist Church, Chestnut Street, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in memory of Donald W. Stanton.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes of Oneonta and Otego.

Ralph Adolfsen Sr.
SCHENEVUS — Ralph Adolfsen Sr., 79, of Schenevus died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997 at the Albany VA Hospital.

He was born July 29, 1918 in Brooklyn, the son of Rudolph and Grace (Swensen) Adolfsen, and married Agnes Evans in 1942 in Valley Stream.

Mr. Adolfsen served four and a half years with the U.S. Army Air Force. He served 19 months in the European Theater of Operations, where he served as a toxic gas handler in a chemical warfare division. He was discharged in December of 1945 at the rank of corporal.

Mr. Adolfsen had been a resident of Schenevus for 47 years. He owned and operated a plumbing and heating business and was a hard worker.

He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Schenevus and the Schenevus VFW Post 2752.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes Adolfsen of Schenevus; three sons, Ralph Adolfsen Jr. of Schenevus, his two daughters, Moria Smoot and her children, Nathaniel and Kelsey of Laurens, and Laurie Adolfsen and her son Andrew of Rome; Robert and his wife Irene and their daughter, Stefanie Adolfsen of Schenevus; and Thomas Adolfsen and his sons, Seth of Walton and Uriah, Joshua and Aaron of Utah; a daughter, Therese Adolfsen-Robinson and her daughter, Valentina of Schenevus; a sister, Grace Schultz and her daughter, Susan of Colorado; a niece, Jeannie Jenkins of Norfolk, Va., and a cousin, Benjamin Adolfsen of Prattsville. He was predeceased by a brother, John Adolfsen.

Mr. Adolfsen was a good family man and will be missed by many.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, 1997 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Schenevus, with the Rev. William Crandall, pastor, as celebrant.

A military committal service will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Worcester at a later date.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus. A recitation of the rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mr. Adolfsen to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, Main Street, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.

Funeral arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

William G. Bodmer
SPROUT BROOK — William G. Bodmer, 66, of Sprout Brook passed away Dec. 23, 1997 at his home.

He was born Sept. 1, 1931 in Seaford, the son of Francis and Pearl (Conway) Bodmer. On May 3, 1958 he married Mary Morrissey.

Mr. Bodmer worked as deputy inspector general for the New York State Department of Corrections for 24 years until retiring. He was in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1955, and active in the Marine Corps reserves until 1961. He was a member of the American Legion Whiteman-Snyder-Hull Post No. 1360, Cherry Valley, Masonic Lodge F and AM No. 283, Beacon and Cherry Valley Lodge F and AM, KOFC, Odd Fellows, Cherry Valley Fish and Game Club, Sprout Brook Rod and Gun Club, Marine Corps League, Dutchess County Police Officers Association, Who's Who in Law Enforcement 1972-73, Schaghticoke Rod and Gun Club and a life member of the NRA.

Mr. Bodmer is survived by his wife, Mary Morrissey Bodmer of Lee, Mass.; two daughters, Carla Grossman of Rhinebeck and Mary Beth Flint of Cherry Valley; four sons, John Bodmer of Stafford Springs, Conn., Kevin Bodmer of Lake Clear, Timothy Bodmer of San Francisco, Calif. and Bradley Bodmer of Niskayuna; 10 grandchildren; and one brother, Frank Bodmer of East Springfield.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Cherry Valley with the Rev. Ronald Fralick officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in Cherry Valley Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Legion Service at 8 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 28 at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Contributions in Mr. Bodmer's memory may be made to the Cherry Valley American Legion Post No. 1360.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Katharine M. Meyer
STAMFORD — Katharine M. Meyer, 70, of Bruce Hill Road, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997 at her residence.

She was born July 6, 1927 at Louisville, Ky., the daughter of Ernest T. and Margaret E. (Meyer) Hellmann.

Kay was married to K. Walter "Wally" Meyer on March 14, 1975 at Elton, Md. Wally died July 28, 1988.

She had lived in Stamford for the past 15 years and was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.

Kay is survived by her children, Marie Hagan of Mahopac, Barbara "Bobbie" Duffy Knoeppel of Stamford, Laura Patricia Duffy of Norwalk, Conn., Marjorie Virgulak of N. Kingston, R.I. and Thomas G. Duffy of Mauldin, S.C.

Grandchildren, Amand and Melissa Hagan, Tim and Tom Brown, Scotty, Danny and Stephen Virgulak, Molly and Chloe Duffy and a close childhood friend, Joan Granahan. She is also survived by cousins.

A funeral mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, the offerent. The burial will be held in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery at Valhalla.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, at their convenience Sunday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance between 2 and 4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Kay's memory to either the American Cancer Society, 57 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905 or the American Lung Association, 1249 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford-Grand Gorge.

Prudence Francisco
SIDNEY — Prudence Francisco, 79, of 12 Willow St., Sidney passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997 at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.

She was born June 21, 1918 in East Masonville. Prudence was the daughter of the late Hazel and Edith Beach Preston.

Prudence was predeceased by her husband, Lowell E. Francisco, on Jan. 19, 1972.

She was employed by ECD of Bendix in Sidney and retired after 40 years in 1981. Prudence was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge No. 277 in Sidney.

Prudence married Lowell E. Francisco on Dec. 31, 1940 in Unadilla.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Nancy Francisco of Sidney and Gary and Christine Francisco of Aliquippa, Pa.; four grandchildren, Randy Francisco, Sue Ellen Heckman, Lowell Francisco and Timothy Francisco; and two great-grandchildren, Teo Heckman and John Paul Heckman; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by one son, Neil Francisco, and one brother, Glenn Preston.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28 from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. The Rev. Kenneth Barnes of the Oxford Methodist Church, Oxford, will officiate.

Burial will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 30 in Walkill Cemetery, Middletown.

Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

Memorial gifts may be made to the New York State Veterans Home Memorial Fund or the Sidney Ambulance Squad.

Anna Brykailo
MOHAWK — Anna Brykailo, 78, of 18 Steel St., died on Thursday evening, Dec. 25, 1997 at Folts Home SNF, Herkimer.

She was born on April 20, 1919 in Monongah, W.Va., a daughter of the late Peter and Katherine Chomik Trusz.

Anna was raised and educated in Exeter and graduated high school from Schuyler Lake. Her husband, Peter Brykailo, died on June 27, 1991. For many years she worked in the cafeteria at Richfield Springs Central School, retiring in 1993. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs.

Surviving are her two brothers, Michael Trusz of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Stephen Trusz of West Winfield; one sister, Julia Griffin of Clinton; two grandchildren, Benjamin Bibik of California and Michael Bibik of Syracuse; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Bibik, and a sister, Mary Hamett.

Funeral services will be on Monday at 10 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 W. James St., Richfield Springs. Mrs. Brykailo will be placed in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home private vault to await burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery next spring.

Calling hours will be Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Donald V. Martin
MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — Donald V. Martin, 65, of Merritt Island, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997 at Cape Canaveral Hospital, Cocoa Beach, Fla.

He was born Jan. 17, 1932 in Hobart, the son of Ward and Marie Sternberg Martin.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War and graduated from Indiana Institute of Technology in 1958. He married Lucille Stracke in Ft. Wayne, Ind. in 1957.

He was a longtime employee of McDonnell Douglas and several other aerospace companies in the Cape Canaveral area.

He is survived by his wife; son, Brent, and daughter, Mrs. Michael (Renee) Valletutti, both of Merritt Island, and son, Eric of Conroe, Texas, and six grandchildren. Also his mother, Marie Martin of South Kortright; brothers, Willard of Richmondville and Lambert of Decatur, Ala. and Richard of Edgewater Park, N.J.; sisters, Mrs. Larry (Helen) Kelly of Delhi and Mrs. Edwin (Genevieve) Zimmerman of Stamford.

A sister, Mrs. Edward (Madeline) Cole of Fultonville, died in 1993.

Funeral services were held at Wylie-Baxley Merritt Island Funeral Home on Dec. 20, 1997. Burial was in Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge, Fla.

Pearl H. Townsend
MOUNT UPTON — Pearl Harriet Townsend, 88, of Mount Upton, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997 at the Gilmour Health Care Facility in Norwich.

She was born Sept. 13, 1909 in Cooperstown, the daughter of Fred and Viola (Bouton) Webster.

She was married to Howard Greene Sr., who died March 28, 1968. She was a homemaker, mother and lifelong area resident and well known for her love of cats.

She is survived by her children, George W. Townsend and his wife Eleanor of Bainbridge, Anna Camp of Mount Upton, Helen Gage of Holmesville, Howard Greene Jr. and his wife Sandra of Guilford, Wanda Brown and her husband Jerry of Bainbridge and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Webster of Morris. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 29, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris with the Rev. Wayne Burnett officiating.

Burial will be in the Burlington Green Cemetery in the spring.

Calling hours will be from noon on Monday until service time at 2 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Belle C. Ang
ONEONTA — Belle C. Ang, 70, of Oneonta, died Sunday morning, Dec. 28, 1997 at 4:58 a.m. at her residence following a year of illness with cancer.

Belle was born in Shanghai, China on Aug. 26, 1927, one of five children of Yu Gwan and Bella Chen, both of whom predeceased her.

Belle graduated from Ginling Middle School in Chengdu, China. She went on to University of Nanking, Nanjing, China, the president of which was her father, Dr. Y.F. Chen. There, she earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry. She and her brother, Robert, went to the Philippines in 1949. She taught in the Saint Stevens Girls School in Manila and in the meantime earned a master's degree at the University of Santo Thomas. In 1953, she enrolled at Cornell University in Ithaca and earned a master's degree in the School of Nutrition.

Belle married Jan Kee Ang in 1955 in Ithaca. She worked and supported Jan Kee who completed his doctoral studies at Cornell University. Then she earned another master's degree in biometry in 1964. The Angs came to Oneonta in 1964 when Jan Kee was appointed assistant professor at the State University College at Oneonta. When Jan Kee died in 1975 of cancer, Belle resumed work, this time as an instructor in computers at SUCO. Belle went to China to see her father and younger brothers and sisters in 1978. She continued to work at SUCO until her retirement in 1992.

Belle had many interests and hobbies. These include in particular, foreign travels and growing house plants.

She is survived by her two brothers, Robert and Nong-an; two sisters, Pei De and Pei Ji; seven nieces, two grand nephews and one grand niece.

A service to celebrate the life of Belle C. Ang will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 at the First Presbyterian Church, 296 Main St., Oneonta. The Rev. Marie King, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home. Belle will be cremated in accordance with her wishes.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 296 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in memory of Belle C. Ang.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Sean Michael Bourn
MOUNT UPTON — Sean Michael Bourn, 26, of Mount Upton died Dec. 27, 1997 in the town of New Berlin.

He was born March 12, 1971 in Cortland, the son of Daniel and Valerie (Bourn) Brisack. He spent his childhood in the Cortland, Victoria, Texas and New Berlin areas.

A graduate of New Berlin Central School, he attended Hudson Valley Community College and graduated from Herkimer Community College with an associate's degree in applied science.

Sean enjoyed basketball, football, country music, the Michigan Wolverines and the Chicago Bulls. He attended St. Andrews Episcopal Church, New Berlin and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 1249.

Survivors include his parents, Daniel and Valerie (Bourn) Brisack; his grandmother, Verda Bourn of New Berlin; two sisters, Shawna Bourn of Greene and Phyllis Wheeler of Oxford; two nephews and one niece, Cody and Shelby Bourn and Brendan Wheeler and several cousins. While staying in New Berlin, Sean lived with the Wadsworth family which included his cousin Jack Wadsworth, who also survives.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998 at St. Andrew's Church in New Berlin with the Rev. Charles Taylor of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, officiating.

Interment will be in Maple Wood Cemetery, Mount Upton.

Viewing hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997 from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997 from 2-4 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the Unadilla Valley Athletic Association.
