Francis Dermody

COBLESKILL — Francis Vincent Michael Dermody, 84, of Markley Road, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at Eden Park Healthcare Center in Cobleskill, where he had been a resident.

Mr. Dermody was born July 10, 1921, in Jamaica, the son of William and Gertrude (Drew) Dermody.

He was a United States Army veteran, serving in England during World War II from 1941 to 1945.

Mr. Dermody retired from the New York City Transit Authority where he was a motorman for the subway.

He resided in Jefferson for 27 years and was a member of the Summit Senior Citizens. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stamford and most recently a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cobleskill.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty; three sisters, Gertrude, Marie and Helen; and a brother, Joseph.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby (Christie) Dermody, of Cobleskill; three stepdaughters, Melody Morgan (Lyn) of Plano, Texas, Kelly Spann (Mark) of Garland, Texas, and Michele Johnson (Dennis) of O’Fallon, Ill.; three stepsons, Robert Morgan (Audrey) and Gary Morgan (Nancy), all of Cobleskill, and Kevin Morgan of Willards, Md.; a sister, Anastasia Dermody of Flushing; two nephews, Vincent Miller (Irene) of Unadilla, and Richard Lynch (Donna) of Hanover, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Anna Coffey of Levittown; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, before the service. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Leatherstocking Region Office, State University College at Oneonta, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Ruth Johnson

SOUTH KORTRIGHT — Ruth Jaques Johnson, 91, of South Kortright passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

She was born Jan. 14, 1914, in Bloomville, the daughter of William A. and Helen Cornell Jaques.

She married Roger A. Johnson on April 15, 1933, Easter Sunday, in Delhi. He passed away Aug. 20, 1982. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Hoag and Eloise Diihr, formerly of Delhi; and a brother, Lynworth Jaques Sr., formerly of Andes.

Ruth was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bloomville. She was also an associate member of the 101st Airborne Association, which was her husband’s unit in World War II.

A housewife, she worked 30 years in the cafeteria at the South Kortright Central School as a helper and cook manager.

She and Roger loved to dance and were often seen at school and local dances. A craftsperson, she loved to work outdoors with her lawn and gardens, and she looked forward to travel and the many bus trips she took.

A nephew, Richard and Shirley Nesbitt, Hobart; a niece, Fay and Jim Smith, Ballston Lake; a sister-in-law, Doris Nesbitt, Hobart, survive, as do several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, in the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, with the Rev. Linda Wilson of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Bloomville, officiating.

Calling hours will take place in the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005.

Burial will follow the service in Valley View Cemetery, Rose’s Brook, South Kortright.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Route 10, Delhi, NY 13753 in her name.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Jennie Nielsen

UNADILLA — Mrs. Jennie Nielsen, 93, of Unadilla passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born July 6, 1912, in Norway, the daughter of the late Jacob and Matilde (Larsen) Mathiesen.

She was married to Ingvar Nielsen on May 22, 1937, in Brooklyn. Mr. Nielsen predeceased her May 8, 1966.

Mrs. Nielsen was a retired employee of Martin’s Department Store in Huntington. She was a resident of Unadilla since 1994.

Mrs. Nielsen is survived by her daughters, Jeannette Meyers of Huntington and Lorraine Nielsen of Unadilla; three sisters, Gudrun Eriksson of Unadilla, Alice McKinney of Leesburg, Fla., and Mollfrid Pacimeo of Port Jefferson Station; her grandchildren, Kari and Anthony Covello of Mahwah, N.J., and Keith Meyers of Huntington; one great-granddaughter, Sofia Alette Covello of Mahwah, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla (directly off Exit 10 of I-88). The Rev. David Masland, pastor of the Sidney United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, when the family will be in attendance.

Interment will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Pinelawn.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad, River Street, Sidney, NY 13838 in memory of Jennie Nielsen.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the direction of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, funeral directors.

Felix Komosinski

DELHI — Felix Komosinski, 87, of Turnpike Road passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born May 30, 1918, in Connecticut, the son of the late Domonic and Helen (Adamski) Komosinski.

He married Stella (Janus) Komosinski. They were married 65 years.

Felix was an avid sportsman and enjoyed taking his family along.

He was a member of the local 445 Teamsters union; a tractor- trailer driver for 25 years; and an excellent butcher for 20 years. He then retired to own and operate the Windy Knob Blueberry Farm in Delhi for the past 27 years.

He is survived by his wife, Stella, at home; his son, John (Diane) Komosinski; his grandchild, Kim (William) McIntosh; great-grandchildren, Bob, Brian, Taylor and John (Dawn) Komosinski; great-grand-children, Michael, Rob, Kayla, Ashley, Jaye (Joe) Leonard, and great-grandchildren Joey and Johnny; a brother, Henry Komosinski of Idaho; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Two sisters and two brothers predeceased him.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Delhi, with Fr. Michael Flannery officiating. Calling hours will precede the service from 10 a.m. until noon at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. Burial will follow the service in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Carolyn A. Rosa

ARKVILLE — Carolyn A. Rosa, 33, of Arkville passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

She was born in Margaretville on Dec. 1, 1971, the daughter of David Hitt and Sandra Fairbairn.

She married Vincent C. Rosa in November 1993 in Margaretville.

Carolyn attended Margaretville Central School. She worked as a cashier at the A&P store in Margaretville.

She was a lifelong area resident and enjoyed cooking, camping and spending time with her family.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Vincent C. Rosa; two sons, Shawn and Michael Rosa; father and mother, David and Sandra Hitt; two sisters, Debbie and Opel Fairbairn; two brothers, James and John Hitt; maternal grandmother, Luella Fairbairn; and by nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

There will be no calling hours. A private funeral service will be on Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. Joon Woo Lee officiating.

Committal service will be at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in Carolyn’s memory may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation, 15 Prince St., Rochester NY 14607.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Donald C. Eldred

FRONT ROYAL, Va. — Donald C. "Donnie" Eldred III, 17, ascended into heaven Friday, Oct. 21, 2005.

Donnie is survived by his parents, Don and Lillian Eldred of Front Royal; his pets, Bear, Otto, and Baby Ruger; grandparents, Don and Kerri Eldred of Oneonta, Frances and David Andrews of Davenport Center, Willard Davis of Jacksonville, N.C.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and FRIENDS.

Donnie was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elsie Davis of Jacksonville, N.C.; and his pets, Boots, Wiley, Fred, and Big Ruger.

Donnie enjoyed his car, the beach, riding four wheelers and playing video games.

He was full of life and touched the hearts and lives of everyone he met. He is loved and will be missed by everyone.

A celebration of Donnie’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Riverton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Mills and the Rev. John Lock officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Riverton United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal.

Francis R. ’Richie’ Kenney

COOPERSTOWN — Francis R. "Richie" Kenney, 57, of Cooperstown, formerly of Saugerties, passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, with his family by his side, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a long illness.

He is survived by his mother, Ann Kenney, of Cooperstown; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Janet Shulkie of Toddsville and Joseph and Cricket Kenney of Cooperstown; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine and Phillip Moore of Cherry Valley, Barbara and Donald Ende of Richmondville, Diane and Warren Bunn of Earlville and Patricia and Dennis Cohen of Portlandville; one uncle and aunt, Henry and Eleanor Hallock of Portlandville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Francis E. Kenney, in October 2002.

Richie was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, having been awarded two Purple Heart Medals. He will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, wonderfully rare sense of humor, love of his family and his unique sense of style. One could always count on Richie to make you smile and laugh. He lived life his own way and will truly be missed.

A memorial service for "Richie" will held at noon Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, 28 Pioneer St., Cooperstown, with Father John P. Rosson of St. Mary’s Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown officiating. The family will be present from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service to greet friends.

Committal services and burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Index will follow the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who so desire make contributions in Richie’s memory to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Carlotta Pick

GREENWICH, Conn. — Carlotta Pick died Oct. 21, 2005, at the home of her daughter, Erika Hall of Greenwich, Conn., and Morris, at the age of 105.

She is also survived by her son, Franz Pick of Munich, Germany; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The burial will be in All Saints Chapel in Morris.

Harold E. Snyder

GILBOA — Harold E. Snyder, 61, of Gilboa passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.

He was born Oct. 29, 1944, in Stamford, the son of Erwin Snyder and Mary Yanson.

Harold married Sharon Casey on May 16, 1970, on Long Island.

He worked for the Gilboa Post Office for 33 years, retiring in 2001. He was truly dedicated to his rural route customers.

Harold loved the town of Gilboa and the Catskill Mountains, and he enjoyed wintering in Myrtle Beach, trying to perfect his golf game and walking on the beach along the ocean. Skiing trips and gardening were a special part of Harold’s life.

Harold was a member of the Gilboa Masonic Lodge No. 630 for 36 years, serving as Junior and Senior Warden, Master of the Lodge in 1975 and 1983, and Trustee of the Lodge in 1986. He served as secretary for many years. He was elected as a Grand Lodge Staff Officer, Grand Sword Bearer in 1989, and Grand Steward in 1997.

Harold was a member of the Oneonta Chapter 277 - Royal Arch Masons; Otsego Commandery No. 76. He served as president of the Otsego-Schoharie and Delaware Masonic Charities Inc.

Harold was a member of the Gilboa United Methodist Church, served as administrative board chairman for six years and was the president of the United Methodist Men’s Club. Harold served on all church committees.

Harold was instrumental in the relocation of the Gilboa church. He was a member of the Grand Gorge Fire Department and served as captain of the Rescue Squad from 1985-1988. He was a trustee of the Gilboa Cemetery Association and president since 1984. He also was a Boy Scout leader in Gilboa and a member of the Schoharie County Rural Letter Carriers Association.

Harold is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sharon Snyder, Gilboa; his sons, Scott and daughter-in-law Michele Snyder, Gilboa, and Jason and daughter-in-law Janis Snyder, Apex, N.C.; grandchildren, Katie and Cole Snyder, Apex, N.C.; sister, Audrey Case; brother, William Snyder and Beatrice Mattice; sisters, Barbara (Robert) Schultz, and Chari (John) Standhart; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his twin brother, Howard.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at the Gilboa United Methodist Church, Gilboa, with the Rev. Kristina Hansen and the Rev. Martha Vink officiating.

Burial will be in the Gilboa Cemetery, Gilboa.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the Gilboa United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
