Kenneth David Kiser

FLY CREEK — "There are many ways to die, but only one way to live." Ken Kiser.

Kenneth David Kiser, 51, of Fly Creek passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Nov. 1, 2005, at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City.

Born in Utica on Feb. 6, 1954, he was the son of Paul and Caroline (Rings) Kiser and graduated from Milford Central School in 1973.

On June 5, 1976, he married his loving wife, Deborah Ryan Kiser, in St. Mary’s "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown, and they were happily married for 29 fun-filled years.

Ken’s major goal in life was to be a devoted and caring father to his sons, Christopher Ryan and Michael Paul. When they were young, he was proud that he cooked them breakfast every morning and tucked them into bed with an "I love you" every night. He enjoyed spending time with his boys and always left them with a warm hug, words of love and tears of joy streaming from his eyes.

Ken brought joy and friendship to all who knew him and filled any room he entered with positive energy and laughter. He wanted to have fun every day of his life, and he did! Ken took time to see and enjoy the tiniest gifts that came along in life, and he marveled at the beauty of nature. But most of all, Ken loved people. He had a unique ability to leave each person he met feeling special, walking away with a chuckling smile, a story to share and a lighter, happier step. He made everyone’s life richer because of his spirit. Ken will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He enjoyed coaching all levels of Little League and often shared great stories about the fun times he had working with the children. One of Ken’s proudest accomplishments was being part of the team that helped create the present Little League field in Cooperstown.

Ken loved to root for the home team at sporting events, and his greatest love was watching his son Christopher’s golfing matches in high school and his son Michael’s football games at Cooperstown High School and at Norwich University in Vermont.

Ken loved his time at Three Mile Park in Cooperstown. The beauty of Otsego Lake left him in awe every day and the people brought him great pleasure.

Throughout his life, Ken worked as a sales representative and was presently employed at BK Associates International, a coffee roaster and distributor in Oneonta.

Ken is survived by his wife, Deborah Kiser; his two sons, Christopher Ryan Kiser and Michael Paul Kiser, all of Fly Creek; his father, Paul E. Kiser; and his sisters, Denise (Kiser) Laible and her husband, Bill, and Linda (Kiser) Longo and her husband, Mark, and Paula Kiser, all of Milford.

He was a loving "outlaw" to Carma and Mickey Ryan of Milford; his brothers-in-law, Patrick Ryan and his wife, Chris, of Herkimer, and Michael Ryan and his wife, Chris, of North Stonington, Conn.; and his sisters-in-law, Sandy Strong and her husband, Mike, and Kelly Liner and her husband, Tom, all of Milford. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, who will greatly miss their fun Uncle Kenny; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition, Ken is survived by many dear friends, whom he loved just like family.

He was predeceased by his mother, Caroline (Rings) Kiser; and his sister, Joanne Kiser.

In celebration of Ken’s life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at St. Mary’s "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church on Elm Street in Cooperstown, with Fr. John P. Rosson, pastor, presiding. The Service of Committal and Burial will follow in Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

After Ken’s burial, all are invited to share a time of food, fellowship and fun stories, at St. Mary’s Catechetical Center behind the church.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home from 4 to 9 this afternoon and evening, Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, when Ken’s family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Fly Creek Fire Department, PO Box 41, Fly Creek, NY 13337; or the Cooperstown Emergency Squad, PO Box 322, Cooperstown, NY 13326, in appreciation for their speedy and caring response to his emergency; or the Norwich University Touchdown Club to support future tailgates, care of Norwich University Athletic Department, 158 Harmon Drive, Northfield, VT 05663; or the Village of Cooperstown Three Mile Point Fund, PO Box 346, Cooperstown, NY 13326 to support a new handicapped entrance to the beach.

In memory of Ken’s love of people and his generous spirit, please take a friend to breakfast, lunch or just share a cup of coffee; buy an unsuspecting person’s dinner; leave a generous tip; hold a door open with a smile; and make any person’s day a little brighter, because you have lived.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
