Manuel B. Jimenez

BURLINGTON — The Lord embraced Manuel B. Jimenez, 82, of Burlington as he entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005.

He was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the son of Agustin and Maria (Santiago) Jimenez.

He married Esther Fernandez on Nov. 13, 1940.

In 1943, "Manny" received his plumber’s license in Puerto Rico.

During World War II, he was in Civil Defense for the United States and had been stationed in French Guiana, South America. The year 1947 brought him and his family to New York City. Here he was employed for 10 years at Tool Design Corp. in Manhattan, benefiting the company with his brilliant mind and analytical deduction process.

In 1957, he moved his family to the quaint farm in Burlington. He eventually was employed by Remington Rand and then finished his working career at Mohawk Data Science in Herkimer. Tools that he designed are proudly displayed on the walls at Mohawk Data.

Manuel was a composed adult, quiet and serious. Fluent in English and Spanish, he and his wife, Esther, raised their five children in a Spanish world: language, food, customs, music and even the dance "Salsa."

After he retired, he would continue to aid his community with his unique ability repairing needed items. On his creative side, he began his own Noah’s Ark at the family farm, two of each, until they started to multiply. For other hobbies, he turned to detailed Christmas decorations, dollhouse furniture and reminiscing about past inventions.

Manuel is survived by his wife, Esther; his children and their spouses, Mary and Pedro (Pete) Lopez, Manny and Marlene Jimenez, Fernando (Nando) and Mayra Jimenez, Rosa (Rosi) and John Posh and Migdalia (Lali) Marin; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Manuel will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home in Edmeston with Pastor Dick Anderson officiating. Calling hours are two hours prior to the service, from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Burlington Green Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Manuel’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Joseph Anania

NEWBURGH — Joseph Anania, a longtime area resident, died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, in Yorktown, Va.

He was born to Giacomo and Anna Zarola Anania on May 2, 1930, in Curinga Catanzaro, Italy.

On Aug. 20, 1960, he married his beloved wife, Catherine Denisi, whom he had met in their hometown of Curinga. She predeceased him March 27, 1982.

Joseph was a Carabinieri, the equivalent of the Italian State Police, until he moved to the United States in 1960. After moving, he was employed by Dubet Manufacturing, Luna Bakery and Joe’s Pizza for many years. Also, he was an usher and active parishioner of St. Francis Church in Newburgh.

The family statement reads: Joe was well-known for his walks to the Newburgh Mall and for his social nature, singing and whistling. He loved to talk and adored all children. We would joke that he was so popular, he could be elected mayor. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, but especially by his children and grandchildren. We take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his wife, whom he has missed so much over the years.

He is survived by sons, James Anania and his wife, Eileen, of Cooperstown, and their children, Catherine, Victoria, James and Isabella, Vincent Anania and his wife, Marie, and daughter, Emily, all of Yorktown, Va. One brother, Vinanzo; two sisters, Giovanna and Maria; his in-laws, John and Vickie Miller, Dominick and Karen Denisi, Vincent and Pamela Denisi and Sebastian and Sue Denisi, and many nephews and nieces in Newburgh and Italy also survive.

He was predeceased by a brother, Antonio; and a sister, Elonara, both of Italy.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at St. Francis Church in Newburgh. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.

The family will be present to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, and from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Coloni Funeral Home, 3001 RT, 9W New Windsor, NY 12553.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory can be made to the Cooperstown Central School, District Music Department, 39 Linden Ave., Cooperstown, NY 13326, Attention: Jim Collinson, or Little Delaware Youth Ensemble (LDYE), PO Box 206, Oneonta, NY 13820 for Joe loved music, especially hearing his granddaughters perform.
