John Bradley Stewart

WEST CONESVILLE — John Bradley Stewart, 78, of West Conesville passed away at the Delaware County Countryside Care Center, Delhi, on Dec. 17, 2005, after a long illness.

He was born June 11, 1927, in West Conesville, the son of Frank and Stella (Mead) Stewart.

He married Iva Turk on April 21, 1946, in Cornwallville Methodist Church, Cornwallville.

A lifelong West Conesville resident, he continued to reside in the home he was born in until his illness.

He was a farmer, carpenter and on the West Conesville road crew.

Mr. Stewart was a past member of the Conesville Fire Department, the Bill Lewis Square Dance Band and the Conesville Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Iva Turk Stewart Crone, of Hobart; two sons, Wayne (Mary) Stewart of Wilmington, Ohio, and Walter (Yang Cha) Stewart of Orange Park, Fla.; two daughters, Diana (Ronald) Parton of Hobart and Dawn Cook of Oneonta; 11 grandchildren, some of whom called him "Poppy Horsey" because he raised horses when they were little. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and special friends, Kenneth and Terry Castle and their children, Robbin and Travis.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Vincent Stewart and Alfred Stewart; a sister, Iola Volker; a grandson, Michael Stewart; a great-grandson, Louis Costa Jr.; and two nieces, Beverly and Virginia.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, with the Rev. Elliot Oakes officiating.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the spring in Manorkill Cemetery, Manorkill.

The family would like to express a special thank-you to all the nurses, CNA’s and staff at Countryside Care, Delhi, who are our special angels here on Earth.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Clinton A. ’Stub’ King

SOUTH GILBOA — Clinton A. "Stub" King Jr., 56, of South Gilboa Road, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at home, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness.

Mr. King was born in Breakabeen on Dec. 22, 1948, a son of Lucretia "Kitty" Gates and Clinton A. "Toby" King Sr.

He attended Middleburgh Central School. Mr. King was a construction worker and farmer by trade, most recently running a farm in Rensselaerville.

"Stub" enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt, fish and camp. He was also ready and willing to offer a hand whenever help was needed.

A devoted family man, he took great pride in his children and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one sister, Jenny Mae.

Mr. King is survived by his wife, Susan Madore King, of South Gilboa, whom he married Oct. 14, 1989; and daughters, Suzanne Worden, Tannersville, Caitlin King, South Gilboa, and Donna King, Minnesota; a son, Clinton A. King III (Heidi), Minnesota; parents, Clinton A. "Toby" and Lucretia "Kitty" King, Breakabeen; sisters, Emma Maxwell (Joseph), Connecticut, and Alice Ostrowski (Samuel), Breakabeen; brothers, Dean King, Breakabeen, Mose King (Bonnie), Rural Grove, and Christopher King (Terry), Jefferson; grandchildren, Christopher, Sam, Brenda, MaLeah, Tristen, AJ, Harley and Sonny. Many nieces and nephews. Close friends, Jerry Keene (Barbara), Richmondville.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at the Brimstone Methodist Church, Blenheim Hill Road, with the Rev. Frank Adams officiating.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at the Palmer & Shaylor Inc. Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh.

Cremation will take place at the Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady.

Memorials may be sent to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care 327 West Main St., Suite 3, Cobleskill, NY 12043.

Kenneth F. Cronk

OXFORD — Kenneth F. Cronk, 86, of 16 State St., Oxford, passed away Dec. 17, 2005, at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford.

He was born July 21, 1919, in Gilboa, the son of the late Ray and Helen (Buck) Cronk.

On Nov. 27, 1948, in Cincinnatus, he married Cecile Hollister, who passed away Sept. 22, 2000.

His children, Gordon and Martha Cronk of Lakeland, Fla., Douglas Cronk of Oxford and Curtis and Naomi Cronk of Oxford; and his grandchildren, Heather, Jeffrey and Kristen, survive him. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

His sister, Gladys Jones, predeceased him.

Ken was known in Oxford as the gentleman who walked every day while smoking his cigar.

He was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church. He retired from Proctor and Gamble in 1980 after 33 years of service and was a member of its Quarter Century Club. He then began driving as a courier for NBT Bank and was still driving at the time of his illness.

He and his wife enjoyed many trips with their family, and gardening. He was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, with the Rev. Philip Thorick, pastor of his church, officiating.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.

Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Emergency Squad or the Oxford United Methodist Church.

Freda J. Bordzol

ONEONTA — Freda J. Bordzol, 61, of Oneonta passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, after an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 24, 1944, in Oneonta, the daughter of Fred and Estella (Goodnough) Brownell. She was raised in Oneonta and then moved south with her family, returning to the area in 1973.

On June 8, 1963, Freda married Theodore Bordzol in Miami, Fla. Mr. Bordzol predeceased her June 11, 1969.

Freda was a private-duty homecare provider. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, shopping for her family, and was a lover of all animals. But most of all, Freda loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed.

Freda is survived by her four children, Thaddeus Bordzol of Oneonta, Harriet and Steven Miller of South Carolina, Apolonia and Donald Hoyt of Virginia, and Betsy Denninger and her fiance, Nick Brando, of Oneonta; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and a special family friend, Danny Gillingham of Maryland.

Funeral and committal services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

Burial will be in the spring in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820 in loving memory of Freda J. Bordzol.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Stanton Sheldon Emerick

ONEONTA — Stanton Sheldon Emerick, 82, most recently of Worcester, Mass., and formerly of Oneonta, passed away at the West Side House Nursing Home in Worcester on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005.

He was born in Binghamton on Jan. 29, 1923, the son of Howard and Allie (Ackley) Emerick.

Stanton was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corps as a fighter pilot.

He retired in 1956 from the Pennsylvania Railroad.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Oneonta, and the Joseph P. Molinari Council 4989 K of C.

Stanton’s relatives reside in the Broome County area.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, in St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, pastor, officiating. Friends may call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, from 8:30 a.m. until departing for church at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Thomas P. Barlow

UNADILLA — Thomas P. Barlow, 84, of Fisk Hill Road, Unadilla, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, in Delhi.

Funeral arrangements and services will be announced at a later time.

Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Eleanor Bartlett Conley

UNADILLA — Eleanor Bartlett Conley, 82, died on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at home.

She was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., on March 25, 1923, the daughter of the late Jake and Marion Bartlett of Maple Lake, W.Va.

Eleanor graduated from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg and from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She later worked on her graduate degree at Oneonta State Teachers College in Oneonta. She began teaching in a rural country school in Mount Claire, W.Va., prior to her marriage to Robert N. Conley.

They moved to Unadilla in the early ’50s — first to Main Street, where they lived for more than 20 years and then to Ontio Terrace, where they remained.

In the early ’60s, Eleanor was employed by Otsego County as a case worker. In 1963, she started teaching seventh- and eighth-grade English at Unadilla Central School. When Unatego Central School opened, she taught junior high English there until her retirement. Many of her former students may remember her teaching "The Yearling" by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, one of her favorite books. She still kept many of her students’ projects from that book.

Throughout her life, Eleanor had a keen interest in politics, both at the local and national levels. She would always give you her unabashed opinion, even if you didn’t ask for it. Those who knew her will remember her as an ardent Mets fan, flying the Mets flag during baseball season, and always trying to catch the game. She ran her own craft business, Con-Two Treasures, with the behind the scenes assistance from her husband, Bob, from the early ’80s to the late ’90s. She was known for her beautiful Christmas ornaments, colorful giraffes for babies, pretty jewelry pouches and other creative craft work.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert N. Conley of Unadilla; son Bob of Gilbertsville, who looked after her with great care in the last months of her life; son Bart and wife Dawn and grandsons, Pvt. Jake Conley, U.S. Army in Iraq, and Luke and Josh Conley of Honeoye Falls; daughter Holly and husband Bob Renegar of Wallingford, Pa., and grandson Rob Renegar of Norwalk, Conn.; brother Bob Bartlett of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister-in-law Helen Bartlett of St. Louis, Mo., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jim Bartlett, her sister Edie Shetler and her two dear friends, Marg Innes and Jeannette Vanderlip.

Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, on Monday, Dec. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. The family will be present.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at the Unadilla United Methodist Church, Main Street, Unadilla, with the Rev. Kip Stratton, officiating.

Interment will be later in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Eleanor’s memory be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc. 123 Main St., Unadilla, under the supervision of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, funeral directors.

Frances V. Partington

ROTTERDAM — Frances V. Partington, of Rotterdam, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at Ellis Hospital. She was 77.

Frances was born in East Worcester on Oct. 14, 1928, daughter of the late Frank and Frances Anzelc Pochkar.

She lived in Schenectady most of her life. She was a graduate of Worcester Central School.

Frances was a homemaker and was a Brownie leader with Mohawk Pathways for 22 years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Rotterdam and for many years worked as a volunteer for several community organizations.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, James J. Partington; her children, James Partington of Schenectady, Daniel Partington of Scotia, Susan Partington of Schenectady and Janet Jaster and her husband, John, of Schenectady; two sisters, Veronica Carroll and her husband, Thomas, of Virginia Beach, Va., Helen Sandola and her husband, Donald, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and her brother, John Pochkar of Mount Vision. Frances is also survived by six grandchildren, Amy Partington, Daniel Partington, John Jaster, James Jaster, Julia Jaster and Joseph Jaster; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Frances was also predeceased by three sisters, Jennie Timmers, Harriet Pochkar and Mary Sagendorf, and one brother, Frank Pochkar.

Funeral services will be at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday from the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Calling hours, to which family and friends are invited, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 or to the Ellis Hospital Foundation, PO Box 1015, Schenectady, NY l2301.

Entombment will be in Saints Cyril and Method Cemetery Mausoleum.
