Margaret Mary Donovan Duggan

MARGARETVILLE — Margaret Mary Donovan Duggan, 91, of Scott Street, Margaretville, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

The daughter of Joseph A. Donovan and Irene Schaake Donovan, she was born Sept. 25, 1914, in Lawrence, Mass.

She married Francis J. Duggan on Feb. 4. 1940.

Margaret retired in 1983, after 25 years of service with the Close and Sluiter Insurance Agency.

She had been a resident of Margaretville since September 1951, having moved from Ellenville.

Margaret was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville. She was an original member and past president of the Auxiliary of Margaretville Memorial Hospital. Also, she was a longtime member of the Board of Directors of Margaretville Memorial Hospital.

On Oct. 22, 1994, she was presented the Keene A. Roadman Citizen of the Year Award by the hospital.

Margaret was a Democrat and served many years on the Democratic Committee of the Town of Middletown.

In May of 1989, she was honored as the Peg Pandick Delaware County Democratic Woman of the Year.

Margaret is survived by three sons, Dr. Francis J. Jr. of Hershey, Pa., Joseph A. of Margaretville and Gerard D. of Ridgewood, N.J.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nephews and two nieces.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, on Nov. 21, 1982.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at Sacred Heart Church in Margaretville with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell officiating.

Burial will be in the Margaretville Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820, in memory of Margaret M. Duggan.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home of Margaretville.

Norman R. Brazee

SIDNEY — Norman R. Brazee, 74, of Sidney passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Delhi, son of Ivan and Bernice (Brandt) Brazee.

Norm served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was employed by Bendix/Amphenol Corp. in Sidney for 30 years, retiring in 1985. Norm was an avid outdoorsman and enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, June (Baker) Brazee, Sidney; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jill Brazee, Sidney; daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Scott Harris, Cicero; four granddaughters, Erica, Ashley, Aubrey and Brigitte; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Marion Brazee, Groton, Conn.; sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Norman Scherer, Walton; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at the funeral chapel with the Rev. David Masland of the United Methodist Church in Sidney officiating.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.

Bruce R. Stone

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Bruce R. Stone, 72, of 427 Butternut Road, Richfield Springs, entered into eternal rest Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at home.

Bruce was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Mohawk, the son of the late William Selah and Fannie McGinnis Stone.

He was educated in the Mohawk School System. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

On July 27, 1957, he married the former Judith Hughes in Mohawk.

Bruce was employed as a driver and salesman for Brown and Randall in Herkimer, retiring in 1998. He then was a member of the BOCES Substitute Service in Herkimer, retiring in 1998.

Bruce was the ultimate sports fan, watching his children and grandchildren while they participated in all their sporting events over the years. His prized possession was the plaque that his grandson’s baseball team gave him, naming him the A No. 1 Sports Fan Of The Team. Even during his illness, Bruce did not want to miss any of the games where his grandchildren were playing. When not enjoying the sporting events, Bruce was enjoying camping with wife, his children and grandchildren at The Cottage at Sixth Lake.

Bruce always had a song to sing or a wise crack to make, his humor will be greatly missed.

Bruce attended the Mohawk Reformed Church and was a former member of the Mohawk Jaycee’s, the West Winfield Community Choir, as well as various other chorus groups in area. For more than 40 years he was a member of the Fort Herkimer Thanksgiving Choir Group and was the former choir director with the Herkimer Baptist Church, and for several years Bruce and Judie hosted dinners for the church choir.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judie; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Kelly Stone of Schuyler Lake and Randy Stone of Richfield Springs; a daughter, Kelly Stone and her husband, Patrick Hopper of Richfield Springs; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Horace and Mildred Stone of Ilion, and Norman and Marilyn Stone of Mohawk; four grandchildren, Todd, Laura, Katie and Chad; also several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Christopher Allen Stone; three brothers, Gerald, Max and Graham; and a sister, Francis Perry.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services for Mr. Stone at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, in the Mohawk Reformed Church, with Pastor Brian Engel officiating, assisted by the Revs. David Kirkpatrick and Ron Fralick.

Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs in the spring.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St., (Route 51) Ilion.

Memorial donations may be made to the Fort Herkimer Church, care of Mr. Ken Palmer, 19 Walnut St., Mohawk NY 13407 or the Richfield Springs Ambulance Squad, Richfield Springs, NY 13439 in Bruce’s memory. Envelops will be available at the funeral home.

Helen R. Patterson

NEW BERN, N.C. — Helen R. Patterson, passed away Dec. 29, 2005, in New Bern, N.C.

The daughter of Oscar and Annie Lumpkin Reynolds, she was born in Danville, Va., where she attended George Washington High School and graduated from Averett College.

On June 20, 1935, she married James Donald (Don) Patterson and moved to Hartwick, where Mrs. Patterson assisted in running the Patterson Funeral Home for the next 50 years. Mr. Patterson died in 1995.

Mrs. Patterson was one of the oldest surviving members of the Hartwick Methodist Church. Having joined in 1935, she was an active member of the church as well as the United Methodist Women’s groups, and was well-known for her bake sale baked beans, her pies, cookies and breads.

In 1996, Mrs. Patterson moved to Garrison with her daughter, Betsy, where she lived for the next nine years. More recently she moved into an assisted living in New Bern, N.C., near her daughter, Ann.

She was predeceased by her mother and father; her stepfather, Harry Phillips; three brothers, Harry, Julian and Thomas; a sister, Dorothy; and son-in-law, Robert Briggi.

Mrs. Patterson is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Frank McGrath of New Bern, N.C., and Helen E. (Betsy) Briggi of Wareham, Mass., formerly Garrison. Mrs. Patterson is also survived by eight beloved grandchildren, Peter (Christine) McGrath of Apex, N.C., Susan (Vincent) Santacesaria of Rochester, Lawrence (Mary-Pat) Briggi of Croton-on-Hudson, Jeffrey (Geri) McGrath of Potsdam, Stephen (Lori) Briggi of Wareham, Mass., Laura (Jeff) Beam of Fort Plain, Christopher (Alicia) Briggi of Roseville, Calif., and Eric (Trish) McGrath of Greer, S.C. She leaves 20 loving great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Patsy Norwood, of Spotsylvania, Va.

Mrs. Patterson was blessed with, and loved by many close friends where ever she lived. Her family is very grateful to those friends who had become their mother’s extended family.

Family and friends will gather at the Hartwick Methodist Church in Hartwick, at 10 a.m. Monday morning, Jan. 2, 2006, to celebrate the life of Mrs. Patterson. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Richard Stackhouse, pastor of the church, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hartwick Methodist Church, in memory of Mrs. Patterson, and sent to the church in care of Mrs. Louise Lauria, Treasurer, 131 Bunn Hill Road, Mount Vision, NY 13810.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Helen S. Hohenhaus

ONEONTA — Helen S. Hohenhaus, 79, of Oneonta passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at her home.

Helen was born in New Richmond, Wis., the daughter of Harold M. and Bess R. Stephens on March 14, 1926.

She worked as a professor at the State University College at Oneonta until retirement in 1992.

She was a member of the P.E.O., St. James’ Episcopal Church in Oneonta and the SUCO Retired Teachers Association.

Following retirement, she enjoyed traveling extensively to places such as Egypt, Kenya, Thailand, Germany, England, Hong Kong and Austria.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann E. Hohenhaus, DVM, and her husband, Philip R. Fox, DVM, and their son, Brendan R. Fox of New York City; her son, Guy Hohenhaus, DVM, of Hood, Va.; her daughter, Mary Hohenhaus, MD, of Providence, R.I.; her son, Jay Hohenhaus and his wife, Sue and their daughter, Haley Hohenhaus; and her three stepgranddaughters, Jill Atkin of Scotia, Caitlyn Atkin of Greenville, N.C., and Dana Atkin of Delhi; her one niece; and her many friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert A. Hohenhaus; her sister, Elizabeth A. Stephens; and her parents, Bess R. Stephens and Harold M. Stephens.

A memorial gathering will be held at St. James’ Manor, County Route 47, 9 St. James’ Place, Oneonta, from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at which time the family will be in attendance.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, in the St. James’ Episcopal Church, 305 Main St., Oneonta.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820-1319 or the St. James Manor, 9 St. James Place, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Glenn Brandon

DAVENPORT — Glenn Brandon, 69, Uncle Bill to his many nieces and nephews, passed away peacefully at home Dec. 29, 2005, after a short battle with cancer.

He was born March 21, 1936 at home in Lake Carey, Pa.

He belonged to the Hobart Fire Department, Stamford Fire Department and served as a fire commissioner for the Davenport Fire Department.

For more than 20 years he was a heavy-equipment operator for Burton Clark. He loved building his RC planes and trains, but most of all his great-grandchildren and grandchildren.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Edna (Wilmoth); three sons and one daughter, Glen Brandon and wife, Emma, of Davenport, Glenda Bailey and husband, Thomas, of Oneonta, Thomas Brandon and wife, Joy, of Phenix City, Ala., and Kenneth Brandon and wife, Camille, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Nathaniel, Michael, Amanda, Jamie, Tracy, Kimberly, Sabina, Keven and Damon; two great-grandchildren, Jubilee and Kane; and several nieces and nephews.

Twelve brothers and sisters predeceased him.

The family will be present in the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport to receive family and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006.

Graveside services will take place at the convenience of the family in Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.

Expressions of sympathy may be made with a donation to the Davenport Fire Department, Davenport, NY 13750 or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Michael T. Wilkinson

LAURENS — Michael T. Wilkinson, 21, of Laurens passed away at his residence Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005.

He was born in Sidney on Oct. 20, 1984, the son of Jack S. and Nancy E. (Sclamo) Wilkinson.

Michael was currently attending the State University at Oneonta. He graduated as salutatorian from the Laurens Central School in 2003.

He was a member of the National Honor Society, the Forensic Debate Team, as well as participating in soccer, basketball and track.

Michael enjoyed reading, gardening, and the outdoors. He was an avid Yankee fan, and enjoyed playing computer games.

He is survived by his parents, Jack and Nancy Wilkinson of Laurens; his maternal grandmother, Barbara Sclamo of Rochester; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his paternal and maternal grandfather’s, Irwin Wilkinson and Pasquale Sclamo; and two uncles, Stephen Sclamo and Daniel Wilkinson.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Eileen Cornwell, pastor of the Elm Park Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Elm Row Cemetery, Laurens.

Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Monday from 11 a.m. until service time at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to a charity of choice.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home of Oneonta.
