Edward E. Hillier

UNADILLA — Edward E. Hillier, 75, of Unadilla passed away unexpectedly Jan. 4, 2006, at his home.

He was born May 16, 1930, son of the late Walter and Florence (Hibbits) Hillier in Niagara Falls.

Edward married Grace Day on Feb. 24, 1951, in Nova Scotia. She predeceased him June 16, 1984.

He was employed by American Plastics for many years before retiring.

Ed is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Gale Ann and Joe Herrick, Bainbridge, Catherine Santomarco, Bainbridge, and Nancy and Frank Gaudreau, Deposit; adopted daughters, Maryanne Pike, Bainbridge, and Evelyn Rusin, Pittsburgh, Pa.; grandchildren, Anthony Santomarco, Cape Coral, Fla., Laura and Lorenzo Aldava, Deposit, Edward Gaudreau, Cape Coral, Fla., Grace Hillier and Nate Hillier, Binghamton, and Tenise Hillier, Davenport; one sister; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, James Hillier; grandson, Francis Gaudreau; and great-grandson, Alex Gaudreau.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at the Sidney Assembly of God with the Rev. Randall Eliason officiating.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.

Victoria Mason

SIDNEY — Victoria Mason, 93, of Sidney passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at the Countryside Care Facility in Delhi, where she received wonderful care.

She was born April 9, 1912, daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel Walker in Sidney.

Victoria married Ralph Mason on Dec. 25, 1932, in Sidney. He predeceased her Oct. 7, 1998. They liked to go camping and spend time outdoors with their family. Mrs. Mason enjoyed crafts and sewing.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Carlton Crandall, Sidney, and Sharon and Ray Johnson, New Hampton, N.H.; one sister, Marion North, Portland, Ore.; six grandsons, Eric and Tim North, North Carolina, Chris Knight, Boston, Mass., Mark Crandall, New Jersey, Jeff Crandall, Afton, and David Crandall, Bainbridge; 10 great-grandchildren, Walker, Olivia, Montana, Victoria, Isabella, Gabrella, Scott, Tom, Justin and Jesse; niece, Joan Ann Collins, New Hampshire; and three nephews, Forrest Misner, Fly Creek, Tom North, Oregon, and Rick North, Oregon.

She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in the spring.

William P. Shaughnessy

BOONTON, N.J. — William P. Shaughnessy died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack, after a brief illness. He was 63.

Born in Jersey City, he lived in Union for many years, then Little Falls for five years before moving to Boonton in 1999.

Mr. Shaughnessy was a certified public accountant and partner with the firm of Shaughnessy, Giella & Co., Wayne, a successor to the firm of Donald Biber Co., Fair Lawn, where he had been employed since 1972.

He graduated from Keyport High School in 1960, received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. Peter’s College, Jersey City, and a master’s degree in tax accounting from Baruch College, New York. He became a certified public accountant in 1986 and was active in many professional accounting organizations.

For many years he maintained a summer residence in Laurens, where he was a member of the Oneonta Country Club and an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jane (nee Waehler); two daughters, Colleen M. of Somerset and Kathleen M. of Springfield, Mass.; two sons, Andrei L. and Arthur F., both at home; and three grandsons, Matthew, Christopher and Lucas Yelle.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Boulevard and Pocono Road, Mountain Lakes.

Interment will be private for family.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday only, and from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday only, at the Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Ave., Boonton.

Memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be made to either Homestudies & Adoption Placement Services, 668 American Legion Drive, Teaneck, NJ 07666 or the Market Street Mission, 9 Market St., Morristown, NJ 07960.

Jean E. Fuller

HANCOCK — Jean E. Fuller, 58, of Hancock died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton.

She was born Aug. 11, 1947, in Hancock, the daughter of Clarence L. and Carrie Mae (Jaycox) Fuller.

Jean worked in the office of the Delaware County Countryside Care Center, Delhi, as an admissions and payroll manager.

She was a member of Emory United Methodist Church in Hancock.

Jean is survived by two brothers, Richard B. Fuller of Avon Park, Fla., and Clarence John and Cathy Fuller of Hancock; and two nephews, Laurence Bruce and Stephen D. Fuller.

Calling hours will be held at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, with the family in attendance from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the chapel with the Rev. Andrew Weidner officiating. Burial will take place in Riverview Cemetery after the service.

Anyone wishing to donate in Jean’s name can do so to the Hancock Rescue Squad.

Grace G. Harris

DELHI — Grace G. Harris, 88, of Delhi, died on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at home in Delhi.

She was born on May 7, 1917, in Delhi, the daughter of Charles and May DeWitt.

She was married to Charles Harris. He predeceased her on Jan. 8, 2004.

A lifelong area resident, Grace was a past Worthy Major of Sheba Chapter 3, Order of the Eastern Star in Binghamton.

She is survived by a son, George and Virginia DeWitt of Albany; adopted sons, Joe B., Carl C., and Richard G. McNeal; adopted daughter, Cleo C. Robinson; a granddaughter, Amira Davis; great- grandchildren, Chanda Felton and James Felton; a brother, Edward and Jeannette DeWitt of Delhi; Sandra Harris Felton; a special friend, Vinnie Barriger of Delhi and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was predeceased by two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Jeffrey Staples officiating. Calling hours will precede the service on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Spring burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Contributions are asked to be made to the American Diabetes Association, CNY Chapter, 1508 Genesee St., Utica NY 13502.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home of Delhi.

Thomas McMichael

LAURENS — Thomas "Grumpy" McMichael, 51, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born March 6, 1954, in Huntington, the son of Allen and Frances (Bohlman) McMichael.

Tom was a carpenter and worked for several local contractors. He was a member of the Oneonta Moose Lodge. Hobbies he enjoyed were listening to music, tinkering with motorcycles, building model airplanes, painting ceramics, spending time with his grandkids, especially taking his two granddaughters to the mountains.

Tom is survived by his special companion of 20 years, Susan Greene of Laurens; his stepdaughter, who he adored, Heather Greene of Cooperstown; his stepson, David Cole and Debbie McNeilly of Walton; his grandchildren, April and Dustin McNeilly, his two little angels, Elexis and Alexandra Wilcox, and his special grandson, Christian "Bubbles" Cole; his father, Allen and his wife, Joyce McMichael of Craryville; sisters, Ogee McMichael of Ghent and Kathy and Gary Aman of Lagrangeville; a brother, John McMichael of the capital district; nieces and nephews, Denise Dooling, Jimmie and Tanja Dooling, Dora Dooling, Maria LaFalce, Casey and Christopher Jones, Justin and Kathi McMichael and Jessica and Aaron Wells; several grand nieces and nephews; as well as his beloved dog and cat, Jake and Zoie.

He was predeceased by his mother, Frances McMichael.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the funeral home with Susan Woodworth, officiating.

Interment will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery later.

Contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Dr., Oneonta, NY 13820.

The Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta, is serving the family.

Elizabeth V. Peck

COOPERSTOWN — Elizabeth V. Peck, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at her home on Eagle. Street in Cooperstown.

The daughter of John and Alice (Baker) Vosburgh Sr., she was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Johnstown.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Johnstown High School in the class of 1931 and from the Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in the class of 1935. During the summers of 1936 and 1937, she completed courses at Syracuse University’s School of Public Health Nursing. From 1935 until 1948, she was employed first as a general duty nurse, then as a private duty nurse and finally, for a number of years, as a "school nurse teacher." She was an early advocate and pioneer in the implementation and extension of school nursing services in rural Fulton County at a time when all but three of the county’s, 32 schools were located in one-room school houses. In the late 1940’s, she obtained additional training at the Rochester General Hospital and graduated as a medical records librarian in the class of 1948. Following an offer of employment, she moved to Cooperstown and commenced her career as a medical records librarian at The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, a position she held from 1948 until her retirement in 1976.

She married Loring B. Peck on Oct. 26, 1957, in Cooperstown. Loring predeceased her on Jan. 23, 1999.

Elizabeth will be remembered as a very intelligent woman who was always interested in others and as one who truly loved the company of her friends and acquaintances. She had a special love for children and she enjoyed talking to them and "learning" from them.

She was a faithful and long time member of both the Johnstown and the Cooperstown United Methodist Churches, the United Methodist Women and the Criterion Club.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her infant sister, Mary Elizabeth Vosburgh; her brother and sister-in-law, Edwin B. and Arlene Vosburgh of North Carolina; her brother and sister-in-law, Frederick G. and Valerie Vosburgh of Maryland; and her nephew, Alan F. Vosburgh of Alabama.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, John R. and Elvira Vosburgh of Maryland; her nieces, Constance Rich of North Carolina, Marcia Bowers (Harry) of North Carolina, and Diana C. Peterson of Cooperstown and by her nephews, Edwin B. Vosburgh (Eleanor) of North Carolina, Richard K. Vosburgh (Beryl) of London, England, and John M. Vosburgh of California. She is also survived by 21 great-nieces and nephews and 33 great-great-grand nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Elizabeth will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Cooperstown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sundar Samuel, Pastor officiating. A luncheon gathering, downstairs in the church’s fellowship hall, will follow the service.

Spring burial will be in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that those who so desire make contributions in Elizabeth’s memory to the charity of their choice or to The Hope Foundation of Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 1 Birchwood Drive, Dept. FH, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are under the supervision of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Frank F. Lamport

HOBART — Frank F. Lamport, 86, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born July 9, 1919, in Hobart, the son of Frank D. Lamport and Vida (Foote) Lamport.

Frank married Mary B. Barlow on Aug. 8, 1942. They had a loving relationship of 63 years.

He graduated from Hobart High School and continued his education at Cornell University. When he graduated in 1938, he returned to Hobart and continued operating Lamport Farms. He retired from milking in the early 1980’s, but never retired from the farm work, He continued to plow until last spring. At one time they also operated the Lamport Dairy Supply.

Frank was a past president of Hobart Rotary and Delaware County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Delaware County Holstein Club and was the recipient of an Outstanding Holstein Award. He was also a member of the Cross Brook Hunting Club, and Delhi Tech’s Ag Committee. He was currently president of the Town of Stamford Planning Board and a member of the Delaware County Planning Board, Board of Assessment Review and the Hobart Cemetery Board.

A member of the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of Hobart, he also served as a Junior Warden for the church. Frank and Mary enjoyed traveling with friends around the world. He enjoyed skiing, bowling, golfing, fishing, hunting and going to casinos. In his later years, he enjoyed going for morning and afternoon drives. Frank will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife Mary, at home; a sister, Ella Barlow of Milford; his sons, Frank Jr. (Jackie), Jim (Nore) of Hobart; his grandchildren, Tom (Amy), Jimmy (Tracy), Katie (Chris), Luke (Courtney), John and Rebecca. His great-grandchildren, Tyler, Austin, Libby, and Carter also survived him and a nephew and two nieces, his parents and a son Tommy, predeceased him.

Funeral services will take place in May at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Hobart. Arrangements will be announced then.

Burial will take place in Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.

Contributions, in memory of Frank F. Lamport, may be made to Hobart Fire Department or the Hobart Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Warren F. Elderkin

MILFORD — Warren F. Elderkin, 70, of Milford, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at the Bassett Healthcare facility in Cooperstown, with his family at his side.

He was born in Oneonta on July 23, 1935, the son of Leslie and Lucille (Mulford) Elderkin. He married Beverly Joan Crandall on Nov. 8, 1953.

Warren was a flooring contractor for many years. He loved the outdoors and spending time in his garden, as well as watching and feeding his birds. He was a beef farmer for many years.

He loved spending time with his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Crandall Elderkin of Milford; his children, Laurie Edson and her husband Tom of Milford, Dave Elderkin and his wife Karen of Scottsdale, Ariz., Bryan Elderkin and his fiancée Pamela Mattice of Stamford, and Scott Elderkin of Milford; his grandchildren, Amy Thomas and her fiancee Aleks Andreic, Warren Edson and his significant other Willow Shaeffer, Ashley Nicole and Tyler Shane Elderkin, Gene and Gillian Mattice, and Casey Rhoades and her husband Jason; his great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Andrew Rhoades; his brothers, Richard Elderkin and his wife Priscilla of Maine, and John Elderkin and his wife Janice of Otego. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Donna Fisher and her husband Bill of Morris, as well as several nieces, nephews, and many loving pets.

He was predeceased by his parents, a son Warren Leslie Elderkin, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Hilda and Harry Crandall, and his grandmother, Florence Mulford.

There will be no calling hours or public funeral. A spring graveside service for the immediate family will be held in the Milford Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Louis Hager Busch Cancer Center, c/o Bassett Hospital, 1 Atwell Rd., Cooperstown, NY 13326 or the Milford Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home of Oneonta.
