Douglass S. Hayes Sr.

Douglass S. Hayes Sr., age 80, of Mayfield, died at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Tuesday, July 20, 2004. Born May 18, 1924, in Gloversville, New York, the son of Bert and Florence Manzer Hayes, he attended Gloversville schools and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Hayes was a WW II U.S. Army veteran, receiving numerous medals, including the Combat Infantry Badge. Douglass was employed 39 years at Fiber Conversion in Broadalbin. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to play cards and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jeannine A. Hayes, who died July 14, 2000; also predeceased by one granddaughter, Rebecca Hayes; and two brothers, Arthur and Bert Hayes.
Survivors include seven sons, Robert and William Hayes Sr. of Gloversville, Timothy, Thomas and John Hayes Sr. of Mayfield, David Hayes Sr. and his wife, Norma, of Johnstown, and Douglass Hayes Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Drum, PA; five daughters, Susan Hayes, Cynthia Calhoun and her husband, Allen, of Gloversville, Amy Mulvey and her husband, Robert, of Pittsfield, MA, Sally Jo Hayes, Crystal Daniels and her loving companion, Keith, of Mayfield; one good friend and buddy, Ray Coco of Mayfield; two sisters, Hope Pettit of Gloversville and Florence Van Allen of Johnstown; 20 grandchildren; six step grandchildren; 26 great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family will be receiving friends today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Avenue, Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held on Friday 10:30 a.m., with Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. Burial will take place at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Laura M. Kobuskie

Mrs. Laura M. Kobuskie, 92, of Gloversville, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Formerly of Forest Hill Tower Apts., she had been a resident at the Sanford Home for Women in Amsterdam, and more recently at the Extended Care Facility of Nathan Littauer Hospital. She was born March 23, 1912, in Gloversville, daughter of the late Willard and Anna Green Prime. Laura was educated in Gloversville schools and had worked at various area glove shops, including Grandoe, Modern Gloves, and State Street Glove shop, retiring many years ago. Mrs. Kobuskie was also a member of the Amalgamated Glove Workers Union. She was first married to Martin Hidde, and subsequently to Arthur Kobuskie, who died in 1976.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Hidde of Rutland, Vermont; a son, William Hidde of Farmington Hills, Michigan; grandchildren, William Hidde Jr. of Orlando, Fla. and Deborah Borak of Littleton, Colorado; one nephew, Clarence Foss. She was predeceased by two sisters, Leona Foss and Lillian Prime.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 10 a.m. from the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker Street, with Reverend Peter Ellis, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends Friday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

David Wesley Wheeler

David Wesley Wheeler, 55, of State Highway 5S, Randall, NY, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.

Born December 6, 1948 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of David William and Ruth L. Tallman Wheeler. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Randall. David was employed for 16 years by Karg Brothers Leather Company in Gloversville and later worked for Price Chopper, retiring in 1990.
He was an entrepreneur, artist, writer and loved gardening.

David was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Johnstown, NY.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth L. Wheeler of Randall; a brother, Mark L. Wheeler of Randall; a sister, Jane Marie Hawkins and her husband, Philip, of Buel, NY; two nieces, Erika Lynn Hawkins and Rebecca Jo Hawkins.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, with Eldon Coultrup officiating. Burial will take place in Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to the American Heart Association Northeastern Area, 17 West Fulton Street, Gloversville, NY 12078-2924, or to the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter Inc., 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.

Everetta Ellsworth

Everetta Ellsworth, 87, of Maple Grove Rd., Northville, died Monday, July 21, 2003 at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady following a long illness. She was born in Hope on November 7, 1915. The daughter of Jerry and Mary Bennett Filkins.

Everetta worked as a glove maker for Serfis Glove Shop until it closed. Then she worked for Perrella Glove and retired from there. After retiring, she was a caregiver for the elderly in the area. She was a lifetime resident of the area and enjoyed collecting bells, growing flowers and being with her grandchildren.

She was married to John Ellsworth on April 6, 1939 and he predeceased her in March of 1984. Survivors include two daughters, Gail Warner of Mayfield and Patricia Lee Walter of Northville. She has ten grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, Christopher and Abigail Everetta Burgess.
Friends may call Wednesday, July 23, 2003 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northampton Ambulance Corps.

Leonard J. Yager

Leonard J. Yager, 75, of Lark Street, Scotia, NY, died of natural causes Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at home after a long illness.

He was born October 3, 1927 in Tannersville, NY and had been an area resident since 1957.

He was a truck driver for the GE for 30 years and retired May 1987.
He was a WW II Army veteran of the European Theater.

He passed away with his family by his side.

On November 11, 1950 he married Margaret (Davidson) Yager.

He was the son of the late John and Emma (Smith) Yager.

Survivors include his children, Susan Ruzza and her husband Luigi of Niskayuna, John Yager of Freehold, NY, Patrice Yager of Niskayuna, NY, Kathy Yager of Scotia, NY, James Yager of Gloversville, NY and Jeff Yager and his wife Nancy of Niskayuna, NY; grandchildren, Michael Ruzza, Joseph Ruzza, Eric Yager, Amy Loucks and her husband Dan, Jason Yager, Bryan Yager, Rachel Fonda, Brandon Yager, Haley Yager and Riley Yager; several nieces and several nephews.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home Inc. (open to the relatives and friends. Calling hours will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Cremation in Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady, NY. Malcolm Deming

Mr. Malcolm Deming, 77, of Log Town Rd., Fultonville, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 11, 2004 at his home.

Born on September 2, 1927 in Northville, NY, the son of Henry and Helen Chartier Deming, he was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.
Mr. Deming at one time started his own business working construction in the local area. He also worked at Adirondack Knitting in Amsterdam and then at Gem Urethane until his retirement.

He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association for many years and was active with and coached Little League in Fultonville at one time.

Survivors include three sons, Malcolm Deming of Perry, OK, Walter Scott of Florida and John Scott of Georgia; three daughters, Dawn Kuss of Canastota, NY, Heidi Aponte of Fultonville and Wendy Verran in Tennessee; a brother, Douglas Deming of Greenville, SC; 14 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 26, 2004 at 4 p.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. Calling hours are on Monday from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Claire M. DiVello

Claire M. DiVello, 67, of 109 Jason Lane, Northville, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at home following a long illness. She was born September 20, 1936 in Long Island, NY, the daughter of John and Marie Burkhartt Riggs. She was employed as a nurse for 35 years at the Deep Dale General Hospital and from 1974 and 1975 by the Nathan Littauer Hospital. She graduated from the NY Institute of Technology.

Claire was a communicant of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Northville. She was a member of the Parish Counsel and a trustee of the church. She was also a member of the Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband, Louis DiVello, whom she married on November 30, 1957; her mother, Marie Riggs of Northville; one son, John and his wife, Gerry, of New Hyde Park, NY; one daughter, Marie Williams of Northville; her step brother, John Riggs of Long Island; her sister, Barbara and her husband, Jim Hallock, of Minnesota; grandchildren, John and Devon DiVello and Jason and Bradley Williams; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Tozzi and Lillian Charles. Two nephews, Anthony and Robert Charles also survive her.

Friends may call today, July 23, 2004 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with Father Robert Powhida as celebrant. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville.

John A. Duesler

Mr. John A. Duesler, 59, of St. Johnsville, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, from injuries he received that day in a construction accident.

He was born August 15, 1944 in Gloversville, a son of the late Vernon and Alberta Christman Duesler Sr.
John was a member of the Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Department and the Oppenheim Trail Blazers.

He was employed with the Ashland Construction Company of Albany.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Bowers Duesler, whom he married February 27, 1971; one son, Shane Duesler of Rochester; two daughters, Stacey (G. Mark) Peruzzi of Hagaman and Alyssa Duesler of St. Johnsville; one brother, Vernon (Mildred) Duesler Jr. of Ephratah; one sister, Mary Ann (Edward) Ahrens of Ephratah; grandchildren, Tyler and Kayla Peruzzi; mother and father-in-law, Don and Theresa Bowers; sisters-in-law, Carol (John) Paul and Patricia (Richard) Clements; brothers-in-law, John Bowers and Herbert (Linda) Bowers; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

He was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Richard Christman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. from the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Friends and family may call today (Friday) from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Ephratah Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Dept. or to the Oppenheim Ephratah Marching Hawks music program.

James H. Nellis

James H. Nellis, 69, formerly of Gloversville, died Wednesday, July 21, at Albany Medical Center after a short illness.

Born July 24, 1934 in Johnstown, he was the son of Harold and Mildred Dickenson Nellis.
He worked for Gates Mills Inc. for several years.

He was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the Gloversville VFW, American Legion in Amsterdam and Johnstown Moose.

He was married to the late Irene E. Bellows on June 9, 1968, and she died June 30, 2002.

He is survived by his mother, Mildred E. Nellis of Johnstown; a sister, Shirley Nellis of Johnstown; two brothers, Robert H. Nellis and his wife, Patricia, of Caroga Lake and Howard E. Nellis and his wife, Harriet, of Johnstown; nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Millard, pastor of the Johnstown Reformed Church officiating. Cremation will be in Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Calling hours will be Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.

Florence A. 'Honey' Jones

Florence A. (Honey) Jones, age 98, of Palm Beach Gardens, passed away on July 20, 2003. Born in West Haven, Vermont and resided in Port Henry, New York before retiring to Palm Beach Gardens in 1972. She owned and operated along with her husband, Jones the Jeweler in Port Henry, N.Y. for 47 years until retiring.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann Jones Burton of Gloversville, N.Y.; and a son, Dr. Robert P. Jones of Penn Yan, N.Y.; and five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Services to be held in Fairhaven, Vermont at a later date.

Anna Chartier Junquera

Anna Chartier Junquera, 92, of Co. Hwy. 152, Mayfield, NY, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at the Nathan Littauer Hospital after being stricken at home. She was born August 12, 1910 in the town of Northampton, the daughter of the late Peter R. and Lottie Slocum Chartier.

Anna was employed as a glove worker in many area shops, retiring from the Clair Glove Co. in Gloversville in 1974. She was a lifetime area resident and a communicant of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Northville.

Anna married Henry Junquera in September of 1929 and he predeceased her January 8, 1987, having celebrated 57 years of marriage together.
Survivors include her son, Sidney and his wife Jackie of Northville; her daughter-in-law, Marlene Junquera of Mayfield; four grandsons, Peter, Michael, Steven and John Junquera; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive her. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Junquera; her sisters, Helen Deming, Agnes Chamberlain and Mildred Barnett; and her brothers, Harold and Lloyd Chartier.

Friends may call Thursday, July 24, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Service, where a rosary ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Friday, July 25, 2003 at 11 a.m. with the Father Robert Powhida as celebrant. Leon E. 'Bud' Dimick Sr.

Leon E. "Bud" Dimick Sr., 57, of Paris Ave., Corinth, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on April 6, 1946 in Northville, he was the son of the late Leon E. and Hazel (Edwards) Dimick).

Mr. Dimick graduated from Northville Central Schools in 1964.
He then married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Edwards on April 24, 1965 in Edinburg.

Mr. Dimick was employed for 37 years at the International Paper Co. in Corinth until his retirement in 2001. He then worked for Motive Power and Paints in Queensbury as a driver and currently was employed at the Olde Saratoga Brewing Co. in Saratoga Springs.

He was a member of the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Dept. and was a member of the IP Quarter Century Club.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, woodworking, camping and most of all, being "Grampa's Taxi."

Besides his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Gene Dimick; and one grandson, Nicolas Dimick, died before him.

Survivors besides his wife of 38 years, include two daughters, Tammy Marcotte and her husband Jeff of Corinth and Colleen Clark and her husband Steve of Corinth; one son, Leon Dimick Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Queensbury; five grandchildren, Jeffrey II and Joshua Marcotte, Dalton and Dylan Dimick and Klyne Clark; one sister, Carole Edwards of Edinburg; two brothers, Richard Dimick of Edinburg and Ronald Dimick of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth.

Friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the funeral home.

A committal service will be held at a later date to be announced at the Edinburg Cemetery.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials take the form of donations to the Corinth Emergency Squad, 101 Sherman Ave., Corinth, NY 12822 or the Corinth Volunteer Fire Dept., 107 Mechanic St., Corinth, NY 12822.

Geraldine H. Evans

Geraldine H. Evans, 59, of Johnstown, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at her home after an extended illness. She was born Dec. 7, 1943 in Heimbach-Nahe, Germany, the daughter of Willi and Maria Heinen Kopp. Mrs. Evans was educated in Germany and has resided in Johnstown since coming to the United States in 1969. She became a United States citizen in 1996.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Burroughs Nature Study Club, Aldine Society, Lexington Foundation, the Aston Martin Owners' Club, Saratoga Performing Arts and Saratoga Polo. She was active in fund raising for the Johnstown YMCA and was a member and active in numerous nature and conservation organizations. Mrs. Evans was a strong supporter of the arts on both the local and national levels.

Mrs. Evans is survived by a son, John H. Peyton Jr. of New York City and a daughter, Alexandra E. Willard of Johnstown. She is also survived by a sister, Sigrid Walter; a brother, Gerald Heinen, both of Bad-Kreuznach, Germany; a niece, Alexandra Walter and a nephew, Oliver Grimm, both of Germany.
Friends may call Tuesday, July 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Ehle Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, Johnstown, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or the Fulton Co. YMCA.

Nelson L. Russell

Nelson L. Russell, 56, of Wells, N.Y., died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. He was born March 12, 1946, in Bakers Mills, N.Y., the son of Ralph and Mulvena Yennard Russell.

Mr. Russell was a graduate of Johnsburg High School. He was the owner and operator of Russell Trucking Co. in Wells for many years. He was a member of the Wells Vol. Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Sinnott Rusell, whom he married on September 26, 1991; his mother, Mulvena Russell of Bakers Mills, N.Y.; one son, Michael Russell of Wells, N.Y.; one daughter, Rebecca Schaub of West Glenville, N.Y.; three sisters, Pearl Goodsell of Gansevoort, N.Y., Audrey Halse of Voorheesville, N.Y., and Donna Hoag of Bakers Mills, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and newphews also survive him.
Friends may call Sunday, July 28, 2002, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home. A fuenral service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2002, at 1 p.m. with Father Paul Kelly as celebrant. Burial will be in Algonquin Cemetery, Wells. Memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice, Glens Falls, N.Y. or the Wells Vol. Fire Department.

Vivian J. Topliff

Vivian J. Topliff, 74, formerly of Northville, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Doctor Community Hospital in Lanham, MD, following a long illness. She was born September 16, 1927, in Gloversville, N.Y.

Mrs. Topliff was employed by Coleco in Mayfield, N.Y. for many years. She was a member of the Northville Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her daughter Jane Foust and her husband, Tracy Foust Jr. of College Park, MD. Mrs. Topliff is also survived by her grandchildren Jessica, Tracy and Maggie Foust, all of College Park, MD. Several nieces also survive her.
Friends may call Monday, July 29, 2002, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge Street, Northville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Hopwood officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville.

Orlando 'Dondi' Ermie

Orlando (Dondi) Ermie, 87, died Friday at his home after a long illness. He was born March 18, 1916 in St. Johnsville, NY, the son of Pietro and Juidrtta Lepri Ermi. He attended Johnstown schools and was the starting center for the 1933 Championship JHS Varsity Football Team, which was unscored upon for the entire season - member of the Olympics semi-pro football team for the Glove Cities - an avid athlete who loved downhill and water skiing, golf and played softball and football as a young man.

He served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a half-track driver advancing troops under battlefield conditions for the 8th Armored Division of the 58th Armored Infantry Battalion.

He was employed by area glove companies for 40 years. He also was employed part time and eventually full time by New York state by the bill drafting committee as a proof reader.
He enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Caroline Tombucci Ermie, who passed away Nov. 15, 1995, to such places as Europe, Hawaii, California and Ohio to visit family and friends. His greatest joy was being surrounded by family and friends at the family camp in Caroga Lake and large holiday meals.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Johnstown where he served as usher, bingo worker and festival worker.

Survived by a son, James Ermie and his wife, Sherry of Johnstown; son, David Ermie of Dallas, TX; two daughters, Shiela Rulison of Johnstown and Marcia Vicencio of Plattsburgh; eleven grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. There will be no calling hours. Final interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice, 71 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078 or JAVAC, P.O. Box 523, Johnstown, NY 12095.

Arrangements are by the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.

Lawrence C. 'Lefty' Waterman

Lawrence C. "Lefty" Waterman, 83, of Bradenton, Fla., died July 17, 2003 in Bradenton. He was born April 16, 1920, in Ephratah, N.Y. He was a 1939 graduate of Johnstown High School.

Mr. Waterman was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He retired as a supervisor from Niagara Mohawk in 1982. He was a member of VFW Post 03275, Fort Plain, N.Y. and also belonged to the Canajoharie Elks.

Survivors include his wife, Antonnette Frederick Waterman of Bradenton, Fla.; a daughter, Suzanne Hiett of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Jefffrey Frederick of Hampton, Va., David Frederick of Jacksonville, Fla., Richard Frederick and Michael Frederick of Gloversville, N.Y., Paul Frederick of Fonda, N.Y., and Steven Frederick of Broadalbin, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service and interment will take place at 11 a.m. Sept 18 at Fort Plain Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at Fort Plain VFW.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a cancer society of the donor's choice.
