Eleanor L. Moses

Eleanor L. Moses died Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Schuyler Ridge Health Center, Clifton Park. She was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Abram and Sadye Freedman Lerner. Eleanor was a graduate of the Milne School, Albany, and the State University at Albany, Class of 1936. She resided in Gloversville until 1973 and then Guilderland for many years, moving to Clifton Park seven years ago. Mrs. Moses was a teacher in the Gloversville school district. Eleanor was a member of Beth Emeth Temple and its Sister Hood. She was an avid bridge player, participating in many tournaments.

She was the wife of the late Richard Moses and is survived by a son, Alan Moses and his wife, Melinda of Tirrenia, Italy; a daughter, Beatrice (Bonnie) Moses of Clifton Park; two sisters, Anna Perlman of Albany and Jeanne Brown of Lenox, Mass.; grandmother of Gail Thompson, Elizabeth Moses, Katherine Strosnider and Rebecca Moses. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at noon Friday at the Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany. Interment will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to Hospice of Saratoga in her memory.

Nelson L. Russell

Nelson L. Russell, 56, of Wells, N.Y., died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. He was born March 12, 1946, in Bakers Mills, N.Y., the son of Ralph and Mulvena Yennard Russell.

Mr. Russell was a graduate of Johnsburg High School. He was the owner and operator of Russell Trucking Co. in Wells for many years. He was a member of the Wells Vol. Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Sinnott Rusell, whom he married on September 26, 1991; his mother, Mulvena Russell of Bakers Mills, N.Y.; one son, Michael Russell of Wells, N.Y.; one daughter, Rebecca Schaub of West Glenville, N.Y.; three sisters, Pearl Goodsell of Gansevoort, N.Y., Audrey Halse of Voorheesville, N.Y., and Donna Hoag of Bakers Mills, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Friends may call Sunday, July 28, 2002, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2002, at 1 p.m. with Father Paul Kelly as celebrant. Burial will be in Algonquin Cemetery, Wells. Memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice, Glens Falls, N.Y. or the Wells Vol. Fire Department.

Harriet Konyn Graff

Harriet Konyn Graff of Coburg Village Way, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Ellis Hospital.

Harriet was born on March 16, 1925 to John and Harriet Verwoerd Konyn in Geneva, New York.

She moved to Johnstown, New York as a child and graduated from Johnstown High School; then received her RN from Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as an obstetrical nurse at Nathan Littauer Hospital before moving to Scotia where she worked for 15 years at Glendale Nursing Home.
She was a member of the NLH Alumni Association and had participated in the Harvard Medical School's Health study since 1976.

She attended church services at the Chapel at Coburg Village.

In 1991, Harriet was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Graff, whom she married May 16, 1945.

She is survived by a son, Alan R. and his wife Grace Graff of San Diego; a daughter, Elizabeth A. and her husband David Rogers of Clifton Park, New York; one brother, Frank Konyn of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and one sister, Joan Hough of Russiaville, Indiana; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced, at the chapel at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Scotia, NY.

Harriet's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Ellis Hospital with special thanks to the staff on C-6 for their loving and compassionate care given to Harriet during her stay.

Memorial contributions may be made in Harriet's name to the charity or organization of their choice.

Alan Turnbull

Alan Turnbull, 55, of Wells, NY, passed away on July 27, 2002, after a six-month battle with brain cancer. He was born April 13, 1947, in Pennsylvania, the son of the late Robert and Betty Turnbull.

He moved to the Speculator area with his family as a teen-ager. He later moved to Wells as a young adult. Alan graduated from Wells Central School in 1965. On January 7, 1967, he married the former Linda Ryan. Alan was employed as a foreman for Asplundh Brush Control until the time of his death.

He had a great love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the family's camp on the Windfall Road in Wells.
Alan leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Linda, and two children, Ryan Turnbull and his wife, Bonnie, and Tracey Hunt and her husband, Tim, all of Wells, NY.

Friends may call today, July 29, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge Street. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Cambell Laker officiating. Burial will be in Algonquin Cemetery, Wells.

Olive B. Hathaway

Mrs. Olive B. Hathaway, age 83, of York St., Gloversville, died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at her home following a short illness.

She was born November 1, 1919 in Johnstown, the daughter of David and Alice Cramer Baird. She was a graduate of Johnstown High School and attended Albany Teachers College.

Olive was employed as a bookkeeper and office manager by several local area businesses. She was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church, the Sacandaga Golf Club and its Ladies League and the Jolly Girls Bowling League.
She is survived by her three children, Mary Ann Hathaway of Gloversville, Joan Hathaway of Clinton and James E. Hathaway and his wife Stephanie of Mayfield; a sister, Marilyn Parker of Mayfield; two granddaughters, Alison and Lauren Hathaway; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert S. Hathaway; and her brother, Donald Baird.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at James Lutheran Church, N. Main St., Gloversville with the Rev. Jack Joslyn officiating. Interment will take place at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville or to the St. James Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 521 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Donna Kay Campbell-Brown

Donna Kay Campbell-Brown, 63, formerly of Nelliston, NY, died July 27, in Melbourne, FL after a brief illness.

Born on April 23, 1941 in Collingswood, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Bernadine Campbell. Donna Kay was a graduate of Chagrin Falls High School and Dyke College. Donna Kay was the proud owner of numerous businesses, the most recent being Tinseltown in Nelliston, NY.
Donna Kay was an avid businesswoman who was recognized numerous times by the Small Business Association and Senator Hugh Farley on America Business Women's day. She was a member of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and the Soroptimist Association.

Her loving family includes her husband, Russell Brown, of Melbourne, FL, who loved and cared for her in her final days; her brother, Skip Campbell and his wife, Beverly, of Columbus, OH; her two sons, Christopher Kocjan and his wife, Tracy, of Johnstown, NY and Robert Kocjan and his wife, Desiree, of Canajoharie, NY; a niece, Carey; and a nephew, Dane; and four grandchildren, Meghann, Alex, Nickolas and Noah.

A graveside service will be held in September at Donna's final resting place in Fordsbush Cemetery under the willow tree. Information will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in Donna Kay's name to either Ayers Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166 or United Methodist Church, 39 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.

Lloyd Russell 'Russ' Dittman

Lloyd Russell "Russ" Dittman, age 86, of Gloversville, died Wednesday, July 27, 2004 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.

He was born December 6, 1917 in Canajoharie, the son of Fred and Marion Russ Dittman. He served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Following the war, he went to work for Finkle Distributors, where he continued to be employed for 50 years until his retirement in 1995.
"Russ" was a member of the VFW and American Legion posts of Fort Plain.

On June 6, 1948, he married the former Margaret Swartz, who survives. Several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and one cousin also survive.

His four sisters, Mildred Fuhs, Evelyn Swartz, Lillian Olmstead and Iva Guiliano, all predeceased him.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc., 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.

Pauline E. McCarthy

Pauline E. McCarthy, age 95, of Gloversville, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at her home. Born June 12, 1909 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of Franklin E. Lawrence and Helen Marion Woglon. She attended Manual Training School and later Brooklyn College, where she received her teaching degree.

Mrs. McCarthy was employed by the Gloversville School District as a first grade teacher at the McNab School from 1948 to 1971.
She was a former member of the Fulton County Historical Society and Business Professional Women's Club; she also belonged to the Fulton County Retired Teachers Association and the NYS Retired Teachers Association.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles P. McCarthy, whom she married June 25, 1938. He died in August of 1958. She was also predeceased by a brother, William A. Lawrence, who died Aug. 7, 1986, and one sister, Ruth A. Lawrence, who died Feb. 27, 1992.

She is survived by a son, Robert, and his wife, Nancy McCarthy, of Springfield, VA; a daughter, Lynne McCarthy of Gloversville; two grandsons, Kevin and his wife, Dawn McCarthy, and Daniel and his wife, Marcie McCarthy; four great grandchildren, James, Jack, Hannah and Isabel.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the new part of Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville, with Rev. Wayne Jones officiating. There will be no prior visitations at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gloversville Free Library or James A. Brennan Humane Society. Arrangements are by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville.

Edgar Sargent

Edgar Sargent, 88, of Bristol, NY, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the Ontario County Health Facility.

Mr. Sargent was born in Gloversville, NY on November 15, 1915 to the late Orlando and Mabel VanVranken Sargent. He had been an engineer with Gleason Works in Rochester for many years. He was a member of the Honeoye United Church of Christ, where he sang in the choir. Mr. Sargent was a member of, and traveled extensively with, the Rochester Oratorio Society.
Survivors include a niece and a nephew of Oregon and many area friends, including Mary and Ernie Pestle of Bristol. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth, and his sisters, Cora Sargent and Frances Campbell.

Friends are invited to call at the Honeoye United Church of Christ Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock. Rev. Brian Krause will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Contributions in Edgar's memory may be made to the Honeoye United Church of Christ, 8758 Main St., Honeoye, NY 14471, or to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Goodman Funeral Service Support and the Fuller Funeral Home, Canandaigua.

Helen E. Ralbovsky

Helen E. Ralbovsky, 91, died on Friday, July 25, 2003 at the Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.

Daughter of the late John and Josephine (neŽe Girdvainis) Boguzes, Mrs. Ralbovsky was born on November 30, 1911 in Amsterdam, New York. After graduation from Amsterdam High School, she became the owner and operator of a beauty salon in Broadalbin. She married Dr. William A. Ralbovsky on July 30, 1939, and they settled in Johnstown, New York, where Dr. Ralbovsky became a prominent dentist. During their years in Johnstown, Mrs. Ralbovsky served as president of the Johnstown Red Cross and president of the Parent-Teacher Association and volunteered in several other charitable organizations.

Dr. and Mrs. Ralbovsky moved to Gloversville in 1970 and became active in the Studio Bridge Club. Well-known for her "green thumb," Mrs. Ralbovsky was an enthusiastic Gardner throughout her life and took special pleasure in her rose garden. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and was renown for her apple pies.
Mrs. Ralbovsky is survived by three daughters, Stephanie Ralston of Ramsey, New Jersey, Roslyn Ralston of Fishkill, New York, Antoinette Stone of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a brother, Alfred Boguzes of Amsterdam; two sisters, Phyllis Gutowski of Amsterdam and Barbara Fouhy of Saranac Lake; five grandchildren, ReneŽe Cervo, Derek Ralston, Lauren Ralston, Matthew Stone, Lilybeth Stone; and ten nephews and seven nieces.

She was predeceased by her sister, Beatrice Mason. Dr. Ralbovsky died on December 30, 1991.

The family is planning a private memorial service. Mrs. Ralbovsky was an avid reader, and contributions may be made in her memory to the Gloversville Public Library.

Arrangements are by the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Gardner C. Seney

Word has been received of the death of Gardner C. Seney of Sumner, Wash. on July l8th. He was born in Gloversville on May 8, l92l.

He attended Gloversville schools, graduating in l939.
He retired as a senior master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

He was an ex-prisoner of war from World War II.

He is survived by his wife, June, five sons and nine grandchildren.

Also by three sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Kiuber of Ballston Spa, Mrs. Joyce Womack of Montclair, Calif. and Mrs. Doris Fallis of Gloversville.

Lee Robert Nethaway Jr.

Lee Robert Nethaway Jr., eleven days old, of Johnstown, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at Children's Hospital, Boston, due to complications at birth.

He was born in Albany, July 16, 2005.

Survivors include his parents Lee Robert Sr. and Carla Maryea Nethaway of Johnstown; paternal grandmother, Jodi Nethaway; and paternal grandfather, Jesse Williams; paternal great-grandmother, Carol Nethaway; maternal grandparents, Theresa and Carl Maryea; maternal great-grandmother, Elaine Taylor; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in the North Bush Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Cyrus H. Fraker

Cyrus H. Fraker, age 79, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Northern Virginia Community Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Barbara J. Fraker for 42 years; the devoted father of Janet Gail and her husband, David Hannah and Peter Andrew Fraker; brother of Carol Gretchen Lathers and grandfather of Christian Hannah; uncle of Dr. Claire M. Lathers and Richard S. and his wife, Ellen Lathers; and also survived by three great nieces.

Calling hours were today at the Demaine Springfield Annandale Chapel, Backlick and Edsall Roads, Springfield, Va. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at Quantico National Cemetery and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 31, at 1:30 p.m. at Springfield United Methodist Church, 7047 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, Va.

Charles L. Lambert

Charles L. Lambert, 80, of State Highway 67, Johnstown, died Sunday, July 28, at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a short illness.

He was born on Sept. 9, 1921, in Watertown, N.Y., the son of Ralph and Eva Van DeWalker Lambert. He attended schools in Watertown and the Carolinas.

He worked as a spray machine operator for Crown Leather and then Mr. Lambert worked the front desk at the former Johnstown Hotel until its closing.
He married Mary Ann Svec on Sept. 3, 1955.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Svec Lambert of Johnstown; daughter Charlene Williams and her husband Kenneth of Manchester, Mass.; son, Mark Lambert and his wife Debra of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Chad Williams, Jessica Williams and Jarade Lambert.

He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Lambert.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. James Fitzmaurice officiating. There will be no calling hours. Cremation will be in Parkview Crematory, Schenectady.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.

Marjorie (Kitty) Fay Sommerman

Marjorie (Kitty) Fay Sommerman, 98, former resident of the Willing Helpers Home for Women in Johnstown, passed away Monday, July 29, at Wells House Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since July 11. She was born April 10, 1904, in Roxbury, Mass., the daughter of Ernest and Bertha DeCaro Fay. She was a graduate of Agawam High School in Agawam, Mass.

Mrs. Sommerman worked for the telephone company and Westinghouse Electric Corp. during the war and was last employed as a retail clerk for the fabric store of G.C.M. Mills in Gloversville, N.Y. for 10 years, retiring in 1982. She had resided in Gloversville since 1967.

Mrs. Sommerman was united in marriage to Henry Sommerman who passed away in 1970. She is survived by two daughters, Jean Fay Winkler of Melbourne, Fla. and Rapid City, S.D. and Patricia Levin of Johnstown; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
There will be no services. Mrs. Sommerman has made an anatomical gift to Albany Medical College. Memorial contributions may be made to the Willing Helpers Home for Women, Johnstown, N.Y. Arrangements are by the Ehle Funeral Home.

Charles W. MacGregor Jr.

Charles W. MacGregor Jr., 73, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, left his loving family on July 28, 2005 following a long illness.

Charles was born in Johnstown, the son of the late Charles W. and Alice Cole Karg MacGregor, on Dec. 24, 1931. He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1951, and joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1955 serving aboard the U.S.S. Sperry in Guam after completing Metalsmith School in Norfolk, VA.

Charles leaves behind his wife of 52 years Dine L. Swears MacGregor; one son Carl Lyman (Margaret) MacGregor; two daughters Carol Ann (Robert) Duffek, and Cathleen Marie DiGiacomo (and fiance Dennis Landrio); he was predeceased by his first-born son, Charles W. MacGregor III in 1987.
Charles is also survived by eight granddaughters, Carrie MacGregor, Maria DiGiacomo, Danielle DiGiacomo, Dianna Duffek, Nicole MacGregor, Tina Olyer, Rachael Salvione, Jamie Olyer; great-granddaughter Macey Salvione and great-grandson Collins Charles Davis; survivors include two sisters, Doris (Richard) Putman, and Geraldine (Nicholas) Cannizzo, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

He was predeceased by a brother, George William MacGregor.

The love for his family was very important to Charles. He enjoyed smoking his cigars and spending time with special friends. Charlie also loved to hunt and fish. "The MacGregors" had great fun in their home on Canada Lake for 26 years.

He had great admiration for the American Eagle, and we know he is now "Soaring with the Eagles" as he always said. He was a member of the fraternal order of Eagles in Johnstown for 48 years.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 6 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc. 215 E. Main St., Johnstown.

Friends and family may call on Monday prior to the service from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY or to Rett Syndrome.

Dorothy Hamilton Cerrone

Dorothy Hamilton Cerrone, 90, of State Highway 67, Johnstown, died Wednesday, July 31, at the Nathan Littauer Extended Care Facility after a long illness.

She was born Nov. 14, 1911, in Gloversville, the daughter of Edward and Jessie Hamilton.

She worked as a self-employed dog groomer and homemaker.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Tryon Kennel Club, Women of the Moose, Johnstown, Organ Club of Amsterdam. She was also active in the local bowling league and she also taught dog obedient classes.

She was married to Henry "Hank" Cerrone, who died March 23, 2002.

She is survived by two daughters, Shelia Habla of Bleecker and Patricia Dudley of Amsterdam; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry "Hank" Cerrone; and son, Gary Cerrone.

A Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from Immaculate Conception Church, Johnstown with Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Johnstown.

Elizabeth M. Clancy Cordes

Mrs. Elizabeth M. Clancy Cordes, 82, formerly of West Street, Gloversville, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at St. Johnsville Nursing Home. She resided there for over three years.

She was born January 11, 1920, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of William and Molly McGarry Clancy. She was educated in New York City schools, and later resided for 38 years in Pelham, Mount Vernon and Fleetwood areas of Westchester County. She was employed at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in the 1940s and later worked at the Garden Club in Pelham. She was last employed as the manager of the Bartell Mansion in Pelham Manor. She was of Catholic faith.

Mrs. Cordes and her husband, Edgar W. Cordes, came to Gloversville in 1972. They were married February 24, 1962. Mr. Cordes died September 13, 1998.
Private visitation took place at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., Gloversville. A private interment service will take place Thursday at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
