Shirley Rote Dunbar

Shirley Rote Dunbar of New London, WI, aged 75, passed away on July 6, 2004 in Appleton, WI. Shirley was born in Amsterdam, NY on March 13, 1929, the daughter of the late Volgart and Edith Brookman Rote. She married Henry Dunbar on February 21, 1948, who predeceased her in 1978.

She is survived by four daughters, Geraldine Philipsen, Kimberly, WI, Kathleen Fye, Menasha, WI, Gail Vollmer, San Antonio, TX and Faith Munoz, Phoenix, AZ; one son, Henry Dunbar, New London, WI; two sisters, Charlene Schuyler of Fultonville, NY and Mae Lockwood of Sun City, AZ. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Jack, Gerald, Charles and James Rote; and one sister, Lindy LaFountaine. Funeral services were held July 9, 2004 in New London, WI.

Ann McKearn Lippert

Ann McKearn Lippert, 77, of McClellan Avenue, died Thursday evening at Montgomery Meadows.

Born on November 12, 1926 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Francis and Evelyn DeForest Guzielek. She was a 1944 graduate of Saint Mary's Institute and a 1945 graduate of Mildred Elley Business School.

She was employed by Mohasco Carpet Mills until retiring. Mrs. Lippert was a member of St. Mary's Church. She was an animal lover. She enjoyed doing puzzles, ceramics, gardening, flowers, and going to garage sales. She also found much joy in being with children, especially her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, James McKearn, whom she married on October 11, 1947. He died on August 4, 1967. She later married Spencer J. Lippert on January 12, 1973. He died on April 29, 2004.

Mrs. Lippert is survived by her son, Kevin McKearn of Niskayuna; her daughter, Colleen McKearn of Amsterdam; her grandchildren, Sean McKearn and Lindsay McKearn, both of Niskayuna; her former daughter-in-law, Marcia Berke of Niskayuna; her sister-in-law, Terry Guzielek of Johnstown; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Lippert was predeceased by her brother, Francis Guzielek.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place, followed at 11:00 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made in Mrs. Lippert's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or to the Alzheimer's Association, NENY Chapter, in care of the funeral home.

Carol Jean Pritchard

Carol Jean Pritchard, 57, was called home to be with the Lord, on July 1, following a long illness. She died quietly in her home in Galway. Carol was born in Belton, South Carolina on November 27, 1944, the daughter of James B. and Audrey M. Lindsey. She graduated from Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina. Following her marriage in 1966, she and her husband Graham Pritchard, were assigned to Laredo, Texas and Anchorage, Alaska during his Air Force career. The Pritchards settled in Ballston Spa, New York with their three children, James Graham Pritchard, Brian Lindsey Pritchard and Joanna Elaine Pritchard.

Carol was the director of the Church Mouse Nursery School from 1985 to 1999 and touched the lives of many young children and families in the Ballston Spa area. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa where she served in many capacities. Carol and Graham moved to Galway in 1991 where she enjoyed gardening, decorating and entertaining in her lovely home.

Carol is survived by her mother, Audrey Lindsey of Saratoga Springs; her husband Graham Pritchard; her three children, James and his wife Cynthia Pritchard of Aliso Viejo, California, Brian and his wife Kathy Pritchard of Malta and Joanna Pritchard of Ballston Spa; and her beloved granddaughters Abigail Lindsey, Pritchard and Amanda Elledge and other loving family members.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family at the Armer Funeral Home Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 3. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa on Saturday, July 6, at 11 a.m.

Caroline Russo

Mrs. Caroline Russo, 73, of Old State Road, Johnstown, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after being stricken at home.

She was born January 4, 1929, in Behtlehem, the daughter of Victor and Phyllis Masala. Mrs. Russo was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Johnstown, and also a member of the Catholic Daughters and Johnstown Eagles Auxiliary. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Russo, whom she married January 27, 1957; one son, Harry Russo of Johnstown; four brothers, Anthony Masala of Dolgeville, Chris Masala of Florida, Nick Masala of Gloversville and Joseph Masala of Johnstown; three sisters, Jennie Chirella of Gloversville, Flora Mellis and Dolly Handy, both of Johnstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 East Main St., Johnstown.

Friends may call Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Members of the Johnstown Auziliary will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday for a service and t the Catholic Daughters will meet at 6 p.m. for a service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Elaine G. Cromer

Mrs. Elaine G. Cromer, 81, of Linden Ave., Johnstown, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.

She was born February 7, 1921, in Gloversville, the daughter of George and Bertha Gutha Demos.

Mrs. Cromer was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Gloversville.
She also served as president of the Women's Republican Club.

Mrs. Cromer operated the former Elaine's Kiddie Wear in Johnstown and before her retirement, she was employed with Cherry Valley Memorials.

She married Harold "Red" Cromer on August 6, 1939, and he died May 29, 1989.

Survivors include one son, Robert H. Cromer of Johnstown; one sister, Hazel Lewis of Acron; two granddaughters, Lesleigh Durfee of Nelliston and Kate Cromer of Johnstown; one great-granddaughter, Hayleigh Durfee of Nelliston.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Rose K. Gentile

Rose K. Gentile, 86, formerly of South McNab St., Gloversville, passed away Wednesday evening at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility.

Born in Giardini, Sicily on April 13, 1916, a daughter of Simone and Vincenza Turrisi Fugazzotto. She moved to Johnstown, NY as a baby. She attended Johnstown schools and moved to Gloversville when she was married.

She was employed as a glove maker at the Daniel Hayes Glove Co., Crescendoe Glove Co. and Conroy Glove Co., all of Gloversville.
She was a member of the Gloversville Senior Center.

Mrs. Gentile was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Gloversville.

She married Louis Gentile in September of 1941. He passed away on October 28, 1966.

Survivors include two sons, Pat T. Gentile and his wife, Marjorie of Broadalbin, NY and Gary J. Gentile and wife, Michelle of Gloversville, NY.; three sisters, Josephine D'Orazio of Schenectady, Concetta L. Waldo of Johnstown and Carmelia L. Heine of Johnstown; two grandchildren, Melissa A. Haubner and Jaine Nicole Gentile; two great-grandchildren, Mary-Katherine Haubner and Dylan Haubner. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was predeceased by one brother, Pat Fugazzotto; and one sister, Dominica Gutta.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 9:00 A.M. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Gloversville. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ehle Funeral Home, North William St., Johnstown. Alice Louise McClary Montanye

Alice Louise McClary Montanye, 94, formerly of School Street, Mayfield, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home in Gloversville, NY, where she had been a resident for the past few months.

She was born in Mayfield on January 12, 1908 to the late Alexander and Mabel Ferguson McClary. Alice was a lifelong resident of the village of Mayfield. She graduated from the Union Free School of Mayfield on School Street. She worked for the Wilkins Glove Company and retired from the Alvord Glove Company in 1967 after a total of more than forty years. She was married on April 20, 1930 to Charles Ralph Montanye. Ralph died on May 16, 1987. They enjoyed 57 years of married life.

Alice was a member of Mayfield United Methodist Church and its Bykota Women's Circle. She was an active member of the Bannertown 50 Plus Senior Citizens Club for many years. She had also regularly attended the group that meets daily at the church for lunch. She sewed with the quilting group and helped work on many church dinners and projects.
She is survived by her two daughters, Marygene Brunner and her husband, Otto Brunner of Schenectady and Judith Smith and her husband, Douglas Smith of Green Lake. She was the beloved grandmother of five grandchildren, Robert Brunner, Ralph Brunner, John Brunner, Jeffrey Smith, and Christianne Wilson. She had a great-granddaughter, Allison Brunner and a great-grandson, John Robert Brunner. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alice was predeceased by her two brothers, Leon McClary and Daniel McClary.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A funeral service and celebration of her well-lived life will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the Mayfield United Methodist Church, School St., Mayfield, with the Rev. David C. Newkirk, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Union Rural Cemetery, School St., Mayfield.

Flowers are welcome, however, those desiring may make memorial donations in Alice's memory to the Mayfield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 203, Mayfield, NY 12117.

Betty Jean Slater

Betty Jean Slater, 77, of La Verne, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.

Mrs. Slater was born June 26, 1925, in Gloversville, N.Y. She had moved to Pomona in 1963 to Claremont in 1972 and then to La Verne in 1991. She was a member of Foothill Bible Church, Upland.

Mrs. Slater is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Judith of Pomona; and Richard A. and Terry of Chino Hills; two grandchildren, Lynne Craig of Riverside and Stephen Slater and his wife, Heidi of Glendora; 5 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Jane S. Hooper of Terre Haute, Indiana.
Friends may call at Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona, today from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at Oak Park Cemetery, Claremont, Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Ruth Russell Lloyd

Ruth Russell Lloyd, 71, formerly of Saber Park, entered into rest on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Home. Ruth was born December 12, 1931 in Niagara Falls, NY. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Ester (Duncan) Russell.

Mrs. Lloyd enjoyed making miniature dollhouses, quilting, making Christmas ornaments and crocheting. She especially enjoyed spending time at her home and reading books on her porch.

Ruth is survived by her loving children, Douglas Ausderau of Norfolk, VA, Keith Ausderau of Mesa, AZ, James (Sandy) Lloyd of California, Karen (Paul) Luderman of Niagara Falls, NY and Cheryl (Richard) Eastep of Byers, CO; sisters, Margaret Hollenbeck of San Diego, CA and Nancy (Norm) Reece of Lexington, MA. Also survived by her aunt, Charlotte Russell of Northville, NY; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
No prior visitation. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at 1 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, 4661 Porter Road, Niagara Falls, NY.

Katherine A. Rockwell, 95, of Gloversville, died Tuesday at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home. She was born April 2, 1908 in Gloversville. She is survived by one sister, Harriet Hodlen of Gloversville. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Prospect Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home.

Ronald R. Decker

Ronald R. Decker, 71, of Steele Avenue Ext., Gloversville, died at his home Aug. 13, after a long illness. He was born in Kingston, NY, the son of Blanche and Leslie R. Decker. Mr. Decker moved to Gloversville in 1967. He retired in 1991 from Fulmont News in Amsterdam as an accountant. He served with the U.S. Army 32nd Infantry during the Korean War, receiving two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his loving wife, Hilda Decker, along with his sons, Randy Decker and William Decker of Gloversville; his daughters, Wendy Decker of East Burne, Diane Decker of Schenectady, Julie Brockhum of Caroga Lake, Lori Vaughan of Houston, Texas. Also, stepdaughters, Kim Shaver of Gloversville, Pam Stockham of Syracuse, Bonnie Yorks of Johnstown, Debbie Wager of Caroga Lake; stepsons, Ernest "Buzzy" Bombard and Dana Bombard of Johnstown; his brother, George L. Decker of Gloversville and sister, Patricia Parker of Perth; also 18 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Decker donated his body to Albany Medical Center. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Sunday, Aug. 17, at 1:00 p.m. at the home of his son, William Decker, 223 Ext. East State St. in Gloversville. Officiating will be Rev. R.W. Williams of Hospice.

Mr. Decker will be remembered for his sense of humor and his natural gift to make people laugh.

Charles Leotta

Charles Leotta, 98, formerly of Brant Rd., Johnstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Hunter Medical Center, Flemington, NJ.

Born Sept. 20, 1904 in Granite, Italy Sicily, the son of Joseph and Carmela Consiglio Leotta. He attended school in Sicily before coming to the United States.

He worked as a glove worker for Superb Glove Co., Johnstown, retiring twenty some years ago.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, a life member of the Johnstown Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Johnstown Senior Center.

He was married to Jean LaMena in Philadelphia on August 31, 1931 and she died Dec. 20, 1992.

He is survived by two daughters, Anna Marie Ellis and her husband Ted of Flemington, NJ and Carmelia Navarretta and her husband Ralph of Melbourne, FL; two grandchildren, Ted Ellis of Flemington, NJ and Ralph Navarretta of Schenectady; three great grandchildren, Tristan and Cameron Ellis of Flemington, NJ and Stephanie Navarretta of Albany; several nieces and nephews.

A prayer service will be on Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial at the Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor, as celebrant. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Mt. Valley Hospice or charity of one's choice.

Helen C. Galusha

Helen C. Galusha, 93, formerly of Library Ave., Warrensburg, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2003, at the home of her son, Edward, in Broadalbin following a long illness.

Born May 18, 1910, in the town of Chester, she was the daughter of Daniel and Ethel (Bunker) Ross.

Helen married Leroy Galusha and the couple resided in the town of Chester. Helen also lived in Fort Edward before settling in Warrensburg.
For over 40 years, Helen was a seamstress and dressmaker at the former McMullen Dress Factory in Glens Falls. She also worked at a dress company in Fort Edward for a short time. She enjoyed all types of needlework, crocheting and knitting.

Helen had been living with her son in Broadalbin since 1993 and enjoyed attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Gloversville.

In addition to her husband, two brothers, Daniel Ross Jr. and Arnold Ross and four sisters, Sarah Darrah, Florence Bailey, Grace Dickinson and Dorothy Morehouse, also predecease her.

Survivors include her two sons, Vernon L. Galusha and wife, Carol, of Warrensburg; Edward J. Galusha and his wife, Joyce, of Broadalbin; one sister, Charlotte Morrill of Victory Mills; one brother, Lyman Ross, of Warrensburg; 6 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, 21 great-grandchildren, 13 great great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dawn Robbins officiating.

Burial will follow in the Warrensburg Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 North Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Ronald V. Shults

Ronald V. Shults, age 73, of Gloversville, died Friday, August 15, 2003, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, following a short illness.

Mr. Shults was born April 6, 1930, in Gloversville. He was the son of Delton and Evelyn Edwards Shults. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1952.

He was a custodian employed by the Greater Johnstown School District, working at Knox Jr. High School, Pleasant Ave. Elementary School and the Johnstown High School. He retired in 1985.
He was married to Mariena Stuart Shults, who survives.

He is also survived by sons: Alan V. (Susan) Shults of Northville, Gerald W. Shults of Gloversville, Edward J. Shults of Northampton, Jeffery L. (Petra) Shults of Kingston, Ronald B. (Tina) Shults of Johnstown, Christopher N. Shults of Mayfield; daughter, Karen J. Finn of Uncasville, CT; brother, Charles B. Shults of Johnstown; 15 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; stepmother, Sally of Batavia; 3 half-sisters: Kathy, Cindy and Cherri, all of Batavia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Alton Shults, and a sister, Marjorie Shults.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Monday, August 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Ephratah Rural Cemetery, Ephratah, with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating.

Gladys Perez

Gladys Perez, 60, of Gloversville, N.Y., died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A graveside service will take place at El Yeso Cemetery, Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Richard A. "Coach" Goodemote

Richard A. "Coach" Goodemote, 65, of State Highway 29, died Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after courageously battling leukemia.

He was born in Dennies Crossing on Oct. 8, 1936 a son of Ross T. and Irene Skapik Goodemote and was a 1954 graduate of Gloversville High School. In 1958, he graduated from S.U.N.Y. at Brockport. Mr. Goodemote was a lifelong area resident.

He was employed as a physical education teacher at Galway Central School for 33 years, retiring in 1991. Mr. Goodemote was also a well respected soccer coach at the school.
He was a member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church. Mr. Goodemote was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association of Fulton County, a member of NYSUT, and a lifetime member of the Tri-Valley Coaches League. He was also a member of the Bleecker Fish & Game Club.

He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Ann Holmberg Goodemote whom he married on Dec. 20, 1958; three sons, David R. Goodemote of Broadalbin, Terry R. Goodemote and his wife, Tracy, of Queensbury, and Kevin C. Goodemote and his wife, Kelly of Bern; his father, Ross T. Goodemote of Meco; a brother, Larry Goodemote and his wife, Suzanne, of Edgewater, Fla.; a sister, Bonnie Hollenbeck and her husband, Larry, of Johnstown; a brother-in-law, Charles Holmberg and his wife, Penny, of Buffalo; seven grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation will take place at the Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at 5:30 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin with the Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Bush officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Amsterdam Community Cancer Program, Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corp., Joseph T. Wilkinson Memorial Library Station, or to the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in care of the funeral home.

Stephen Thompson

Stephen Thompson, 78, of Meadlowlark Dr., Cohoes, died Saturday, August 17, 2002, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Rethymmon, Crete, Greece, he was raised in Johnstown, N.Y. and had lived in Cohoes for the past 10 years. Stephen was a graduate of Johnstown High School where he played baseball, basketball and football, and of Hartwick College, where he also played basketball. He was employed as a teacher for 15 years in the Amsterdam School District and then as a financial planner for 30 years, retiring in the mid-1990s. During World War II, Stephen served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Ticonderoga. He was a member of the American Legion Zaloga Post in Albany, the Johnstown Moose Lodge and a former member of the VFW in Johnstown.

Survivors include his wife, Florence DuCharme Thompson; a brother, James (Sharon) Thompson; nephew Jamie (Melissa) Thompson; nieces Marcy, Marie and Nicole Thompson; a great-nephew, James Michael Thompson. Also survived by several cousins in Athens, Greece.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, 1200 Central Ave., Colonie. Burial will be in Memory's Garden Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
