Richard J. Boshart
Friday, June 04, 2004
Richard J. Boshart, 50, of Keller Dr., Fonda, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.

Born in Amsterdam on July 28, 1953, a son of John G. and Marjorie Cook Boshart. He was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Boshart was a resident of Liberty Enterprises and resided at the Keller Drive residence in Fonda. He has been with Liberty since 1979. He participated in many activities with Liberty and participated with the Day Support Services in Amsterdam.

He attended church at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda and at the Auriesville and Kateri Shrines. He loved to go out with his brother Phil and enjoyed coffee, ice cream and chicken. He also enjoyed his favorite hobby, woodworking. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Boshart of Fonda; six brothers, John Boshart of Louisville, KY, Phil Boshart of Johnstown, NY, Jim Boshart of Fonda; Billy Boshart of Johnstown, NY, Henry Boshart of Fonda, NY, Bob Boshart of Fonda; four sisters, Ann Boshart of Fonda, Jean McGrath of Weston, FL, Sue Boshart of Gloversville, Margaret "Peg" Peck of Pecks Lake, NY. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was predeceased by his father, John G. Boshart.

Mr. Boshart had many family, friends and caregivers who loved him very much. He is also survived by his housemates, Neil Baxter, Nicholas Flynn, Bruce Murphy, Matthew O'Lucci and Richard Stankes.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda with the Rev. Jay Hine presiding. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the Jackson and Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

William C. Wilder Sr.

Mr. William C. Wilder Sr., 65, of E. Fulton St., Gloversville, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville after a short illness.

He was born September 1, 1937 in Fonda, son of the late Clarence and Edith Crouse Wilder.

Mr. Wilder served in the Army National Guard from 1955 until 1962.
He was a member of the Sr. Citizen Service Center of Gloversville and the Veterans group at the center.

Mr. Wilder was employed at the former Swears Glove Co. and several local leather tanneries.

Survivors include his son, William C. Wilder Jr. of Gloversville; four daughters, Jan McAdams of St. Johnsville, Teresa Chapin of Gloversville, Brenda Smith of Ephratah and Malisa LaMont of Caroga Lake; four brothers, Garry Wilder and James Wilder of Gloversville, Ronald Wilder of Johnstown and Don Wilder of Ft. Plain; two sisters, Marilyn Murray of Johnstown and Mary Lou Pantalone of Mayfield; 26 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister, Elaine Gergich; and two brothers, Dick Wilder and Wesley Wilder.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Friends and family may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Ephratah Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association.

Charles L. Skinner Sr.

Charles L. Skinner Sr., 88, of Union St., Fultonville, passed away Sunday afternoon at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, NY.

Born in Fultonville, NY on April 22, 1915, a son of William D. and Mary Elizabeth Hurley Skinner. He was a lifelong resident of Fultonville and was a 1934 graduate of the former Fultonville Union Free High School.

Mr. Skinner served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a supply truck driver during World War II serving in the European Theatre mainly in England.
He was employed for 20 years for the Shell Oil Co. as a truck driver working in various places in the area. He later worked at Macek's Garage in Fultonville for 30 years before retiring in 1995.

He was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda, NY. He was also a member of the Aetna Engine Co. in Fultonville.

He married Eleanor A. Cerrato Skinner on November 23, 1946.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Charles L. Skinner Jr. and his wife Carol of Fultonville, NY.; one brother, Harold O. Skinner of Oneonta, NY; one granddaughter, Sarah Skinner of Lebanon, New Hampshire; many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Jackson and Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY. Interment will follow in Maple Ave. Cemetery, Fultonville. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation Scholarship Fund, 427 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010.

William J. House

Mr. William J. House, 88, formerly of South Melcher Street, Johnstown, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at the Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown after a long illness.

He was born November 10, 1914 in the town of Mohawk, son of the late William and Emma Eagan House.

Mr. House was a 1934 graduate of Johnstown High School.
He was a WW II Navy veteran.

Mr. House was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Johnstown, Johnstown Loyal Order of the Moose, Johnstown VFW Post 510, and Johnstown 50 Plus Sr. Citizens.

Mr. House was employed with Skiff's Dairy until his retirement in 1979.

Survivors include two sisters, Marilyn DeVoe of Gloversville and Elizabeth Montanye of Johnstown; nieces; nephews and cousins.

On Aug. 30, 1941 he married Pauline Husek House; she died January 27, 1956. He then married Alma Ketchum House, November 10, 1956 and she died February 15, 1977.

He was predeceased by one sister, Katherine Lampman; and two brothers, Alton House and Charles House.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Glebe Street, Johnstown.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Interment will be in Johnstown Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice.

Gerald Hazzard

Former Amsterdam resident Gerald Hazzard died May 29, at his home in Staten Island, NY of cardiac arrest.

He was born in Amsterdam and grew up in Amsterdam and Gloversville.

Active in the theater, "Jerry" was a popular performer in the Amsterdam Recreation Department summer shows in the '50s and '60s. He was a co-founder of the Adirondack Players in Amsterdam and acted in plays with the Colonial Little Theater in Johnstown.
In 1968 he married the former Nancy Mack, an Amsterdam teacher. The Hazzards moved to Staten Island, NY in 1969 where Gerald continued to be active in the theater. He was a charter member of the Staten Island Civic Theater and acted in other local theater groups. He also performed in several off-Broadway shows and two movies.

Mr. Hazzard owned and operated the Star Music Center on Staten Island, selling sheet music, instruction books and pianos. He retired in 1990.

Mr. Hazzard was a gourmet cook and especially enjoyed baking. His family and friends always looked forward to his elegant and tasty Christmas baked goods.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed movies.

He is survived by his wife Nancy; a brother Frank; and two sisters, Roseann Auriemma and Dolores Bozek.

A private funeral Mass and interment of ashes will take place on Wednesday.

Arrangements are by the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker Street, Gloversville.

Norman J. Bowmaker

Norman J. Bowmaker, 87, of Albany, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at the Stratton VA Medical Center. He was born in Watervliet and was the son of the late Norman and Margaret Werner Bowmaker. Norman was predeceased in 1992 by his wife, Shirley Green Bowmaker. He was a WW II Army veteran. Norman was employed with Vince Kendrick Jewelers in Albany for many years. He was a life member of Musicians Local 14 in Albany and had attended First Congregational Church. He is the beloved father of Brenda Leslie, Marc Bowmaker (Anne), Mary Schlachter (Kurt), Ruth Dennehey (Michael), Edward Bowmaker and the late Noreen Ten Eyck; grandfather of Gretchen Vahle (Tim), Karen Moreland (Tim), Michael Ten Eyck (Renita), Laurie Skinner (Ed) and Kim Bowmaker. He is also survived by three great grandchildren. He is the cherished friend of Vince Kendrick, Angel Feiden and Judi Humphries.

Funeral services will be this evening at 7:00 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155, south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. At the request of the family and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, 405 Quail Street, Albany, NY 12208.

Nancy Dona

Mrs. Nancy Dona, 56, of Gloversville, died suddenly Wednesday, after being stricken. Born in Gloversville, August 24, 1946, she was educated in Gloversville schools and a life long resident. She was employed as a cook in the cafeteria at Gloversville High School where she has been for more than twenty-five years. Mrs. Dona is survived by her husband, Joseph Dona, whom she married August 29, 1964, a daughter, Tracy Oathout of Gloversville; a son, Thomas S. Dona and his wife Ronnie of Gloversville. She is also survived by a sister, Kay Fenner of Syracuse; and four grandchildren, Cameron and Katie Oathout, Ashley and Aaron Dona. She was predeceased by her father, Buell Francis. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday 10 a.m. at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker Street, with Reverend Bonnie Orth officiating. The family will receive friends Friday 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the American Heart Assoc., 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.

Walt Davies

Walt Davies, local building contractor and owner of Walt Davies Garage Bldrs. for 38 years, died May 3, 2004 at Lourdes Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Inez Davies, Vestal; two sons, Walter (Rick) F. Davies, Fla., and Billy Walker, Calif.; two brothers, William J. Davies, Manahawkin, N.J., John P. Davies, Gloversville, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Walt was born May 12, 1921 to Walter and Ramona (Freeman) Davies, Gloversville, N.Y. Walt graduated with honors from Gloversville High School in 1938. He joined the Navy early in WW II and was in the first graduating class of Naval Air Cadets at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. He served in the Naval Air Force on three different occasions, first as a pilot of fixed-wing aircraft and later as one of the early helicopter pilots. In his non-business life, Walt was an outstanding athlete. He played baseball in high school, and at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station as well as the Naval Training School in Pensacola, Fla., and was also an outstanding amateur golf and billiard player, as well as excelling in table tennis competition. A very pleasant man, Walt will be missed by family and friends.

Burial took place in a family plot in Manahawkin, N.J.

Ernest Oliver Marshall

Ernest Oliver Marshall of Milltown, NJ, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2004 after a brief illness.

Born in Argentina, South America on March 25, 1921, where his parents, James and Elizabeth Marshall immigrated from Scotland and later to the United States in 1923. The family resided in Johnstown, N.Y., where he was a graduate of Johnstown High School.

He served three years in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, where he received five battle stars and obtained the rank of sergeant. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Post 25 in Milltown, N.J.
After the war, he attended Rider College, Trenton, N.J., where he received a bachelor's in accounting. Upon graduating from Rider, he worked for Johnson and Johnson for 43 years before he retired in 1990.

He was active in the United Methodist Church of New Brunswick, where he served as treasurer for a number of years. He was a member of the Twin County Church Bowling league for several years and worked at the Methodist Church refreshment stand for over 30 years at the Middlesex County Fair as well as serving as a volunteer for the Middlesex Co. Fair Association.

He was active in the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital where he and his wife would work the hospitality cart and had over 2300 hours of service at the hospital.

He is survived by his loving wife Helen of 56 years; three children, Robert Marshall of Milltown, NJ, Barbara Weaver of Gaylord, Mi., Glenn Marshall of Northampton, Pa.; three grandchildren, Steven Marshall, Ashley Marshall and Jacqueline Marshall of Somerville, NJ; and two sisters, Jessie Picket of Johnstown, NY and Betty White of Manlius, NY.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Acquilla of Mechanicsburg, PA; and three brothers, James of Argentina, William of Dolgeville and Douglas of Johnstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the United Methodist Church of New Brunswick or Care One in East Brunswick. A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church, New Brunswick, NJ on June 6.

Michael D. 'Custer' Pierson

Mr. Michael D. "Custer" Pierson, 52, of Gloversville, died May 25, 2004 at his home after a long illness.

He was born October 15, 1951 in Willimantic, CT, a son of Benjamin and Jane Blanchett Pierson Sr.

Mr. Pierson was educated in the area and graduated from Fonda-Fultonville Central School. He then began to travel and work in Florida, Texas and Arizona.
He was a self-employed welder until he retired due to illness.

Mr. Pierson was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding and working on Harley Davidsons.

He is survived by his father, Benjamin G. Pierson Sr. of Caroga Lake; mother, Jane V. Pierson of Connecticut; daughters, Melissa and Michelle Pierson of Texas; brother, Ben Pierson Jr. of Gloversville; sisters, Pam LaFountain and Carol Smith, both of Connecticut and Sandy Mitchell of Virginia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements are by the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Bertram C. Ruller
Saturday, June 05, 2004
Bertram C. Ruller, age 87, of Gloversville, died Thursday at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home in Gloversville. Born October 5, 1916, in St. Johnsville, NY, he was the son of Milo and Carrie Weaver Ruller. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School and was a life long area resident.

Mr. Ruller was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran.

Mr. Ruller was employed as a bookkeeper and an accountant for several area businesses for over 40 years.
He was a member of the Scared Heart Church of Gloversville and the Holy Name Society and the Couples Club of the church. He was also a lecter for the Sacred Heart Church and the Auriesville Shrine. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2077, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, the Kateri Tekakwitha League of the Auriesville Shrine and the former Ida L. McGinnis Senior Citizens Club.

On October, 23. 1917, he married the former Monique Vallieres. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Robert C. Ruller and his wife, Sandy of Fairport, NY; and John M. Ruller and his wife Gina of Gloversville; 5 grandchildren, David, Douglas, Robert, Jeffrey and Jonathan Ruller; 5 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 1 brother, Vernon Ruller;1 grandson, Michael Ruller; and his former wife, Edna Brott Ruller who died on December 28, 1968.

There will be no prior visitation at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church of Gloversville. Interment will take place at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery of Johnstown. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Assn. or the American Cancer Foundation. Arrangements are by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville.

Paul H. Schuyler

Paul H. Schuyler, 50, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2004 at his home in Wells, NY with his parents, sisters and brothers at his side. He was born March 17, 1954 in Gloversville NY. The son of Clayton and Betty Schuyler.

He was a graduated of Wells Central School and obtained A.A.S. from Orange County Community College. He was a carpenter by trade and owner of Sky-Mac Builders.

He is survived by his parents, Clayton and Betty Schuyler of Wells, three sisters; Jill Russom of Northville, Jane Bowler and Julie Ross both of Amsterdam and his brother Phillip Schuyler of Northville. He is also survived by his children Blair Schuyler of Newburgh, Brandy and Jessie Schuyler of Cobleskill and his granddaughter Madison Schuyler. Two nephews, once niece and one uncle also survived him.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2004 at the Northville Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Algonquin Cemetery, Wells. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main Street, Gloversville NY 12078.

Antoinette Frascatore

Antoinette Frascatore (nee: D'Arco) of the Teresian House in Albany, died peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital with her children at her side.

The daughter of the late Vincent and Josephine D'arco, she was born on May 27, 1913 in Johnstown. She worked for various shops in and around Johnstown as a glove maker, retiring from Pappa's glove shop in 1988.

Her husband Emilio Frascatore died in 1971.
Survivors include three children, Rose Petrak and her husband Edward of Burn Hills, John Frascatore and his wife Patricia of Unadilla, NY and JoAnn Izzo and her husband Dominick of Niskayuna. She leaves behind her nine loving grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, John D'Arco and sisters Florrie Dattoli and Mary Conti.

Funeral Services will begin Tuesday, June 8 2004 at 10 am with a Mass of Christain Burial celebrated at St. Helen's Church, 1803 Union St., Schenectady. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the mass.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, East Glenville. Internment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Antoinette Frascatore to Teresian House, Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY 12205 or Alzheimer's Association NENY Chapter 85, Watervliet Avenue, Albany, NY 12206.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Glenville Funeral Home.

Sylvia Sandfield

Sylvia Sandfield of Gloversville, age 91, died Saturday at the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home. Born August 27, 1912 in Johnstown the daughter of Marks and Rachel Leitner Russell. Mrs. Sandfield graduated from Gloversville High School and later received her teaching degree from Potsdam Normal School and later attended the Juliard school of music.

She was employed as a teacher by the Johnstown and Gloversville School Districts for over so years she taught at the Perry school in Johnstown and the Boulevard School in Gloversville. She was also a member of the Pine Brook Golf Club.

Predeceased by her husband Maurice Sandfield on May 17, 1953, one brother Dr. Samuel Russell, and three sisters, Marie Russell, Adeline Jewel, and Goldie Bricliner. She was survived by her sons Russell Sandfield of Rockport, MA, and Stuart Sandfield and his wife Susan of Murblottand, MA; Brother-in law Dr. Merol Bricliner of Gloversville, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
There will be a grave side service held on Monday 10 am at the Knesseth Israel Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions can be made to the James A. Brennan Memorial animal shelter or the Getman memorial home in Gloversville. Arrangements by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Avenue, Gloversville

Evelyn Pedrick Carleo

Evelyn Pedrick Carleo, 84, formerly of Johnstown, died Saturday evening at Sitrin Health Care Center, New Hartford after a long illness. She was born May 18, 1920 in Keck Center, the daughter of Charles and Ida Hook Pedrick. She graduated from Johnstown High School in 1938, then attended Beautician School in Philadelphia.

She operated Evelyn's Beauty Salon before being employed by the Fulton County Office for the Aging, retiring in 1980.

She was married to the late Louis P. Carleo Jr. who died April 15, 1990.
She is survived by one son, Louis P. Carleo of Amsterdam; two daughters, Barbara Sperling of Oneonta and Lorraine Carleo of Cooperstown; and one brother, Robert Pedrick of Gloversville. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Cremation will take place in Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.

Verna Dalton Carlson

Verna Dalton Carlson, 92, of Fork, South Carolina, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at the Marion County Medical Center, Mullins, South Carolina. She was born April 28, 1912 in Unadilla, New York, the daughter of Oriel and Mabel (Barnett) Dalton. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth R. Carlson in 1978.

She was a former resident of Gloversville before moving to South Carolina six years ago.

Verna is survived by her sons, Kenneth Carlson Jr. of Gloversville and Ronald Carlson of South Carolina; her sister, Winifred Lord of Afton, New York; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday June 8, 2004 in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla, N.Y. with Rev. Fred Ward officiating. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, N.Y. under the direction of James S. Westcott and James C. Magee, funeral directors.
