Shirley B. Hunter Gifford Fogarty

Mrs. Shirley B. Hunter Gifford Fogarty, age 78, of Gloversville, died Monday, January 3, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, following a long illness.

She was born November 10, 1926, in East Galway, NY, a daughter of James and Inazetta Armatage Hunter. She received her nursing degree from the Cadet Nursing Corps and was later employed as a private duty nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. Shirley was also employed as an office nurse by Dr. Saunders of Amsterdam. Her 57-year career in nursing also included employment as a clinical nurse at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna.

She is survived by her husband, Frank M. Fogarty of Gloversville, whom she married in 1988; a stepson, John Fogarty and his wife Jayne of Sidney, NY; a sister, Leah Olendorf and her husband Charles of Galway; nieces, Peggy Jenkins and Sharon Parvana and her husband Jim; grandnieces and grandnephews, Paul Jenkins, Stephen Jenkins, Ryan Jenkins, Alexandria Parvana and Jessica Parvana; stepgrandchildren, Janine Fogarty, Joel Fogarty and Julie Fogarty; and step great-grandchildren, Sean Fogarty, Brendan Fogarty and Mackenzie Fogarty.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Howard Gifford.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Paul Butler officiating. Interment will take place at East Galway Cemetery. Robert Briceno

Robert Briceno, 44, of N. Kingsboro Ave., Gloversville, died Saturday, January 4, 2003 at Albany Medical Center after a long illness.

Robert was born December 7, 1958 in Cali Valle, Columbia. At age 5, he attended kindergarten in Craydon School. At age 7, he began primary school. He was a well-behaved child, one of six siblings, loved his parents, especially his mother who he helped around the house.

At 12 years old, he finished Atanacio Girardot Primary School and enrolled in Inem Technical Institute specializing in chemistry. He graduated in 1975 at the top of his class. He then chose chemical engineering at the Valle University.
This was a difficult time in his life; knowing the importance of helping his family economically, he studied by day and worked as a taxi driver by night. After much sacrifice, Robert obtained his diploma in chemical engineering, his thesis made at the Liscano Hermanos, Columbia in 1985, specializing in leathers. He received his master's in chemical engineering at Javeriana University in Cali, Columbia. He has used his specialty in leathers in Germany, Spain, Italy and Brazil.

On October 13, 1985, Robert married Sandra Quiroga, whom he dated since he was 13. Their first son, Robert Steven, was born October 22, 1987. Their second son, Michael, was born February 22, 1996. Robert was a dedicated husband and father.

In 1998 Robert and his family came to Gloversville. He was employed at Pan American Leather. He and his family adapted well, bought a house and the children attend school.

Robert had a strong belief in God all his life. He left this life Saturday at 12:45 p.m. and before passing, he prayed: "God, I give you thanks for my life, for the wife and children you have given me, and even this illness. I am free from sin. Let your will be done. If you want to heal me, it is your decision, if not I am prepared to go with you, Amen."

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will take place at Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211.

Leonard C. 'Butch' Gasner Sr.

Leonard C. "Butch" Gasner Sr., 62, of Union Mills Road, Broadalbin, died Wednesday morning, January 5, 2005 at home.

He was born in Amsterdam on October 7, 1942, a son of Clayton and Jane Glamm Gasner and attended school in Broadalbin. He was a lifelong area resident.

Butch was a dairy farmer and operated Gasner's Dairy Farm in Broadalbin for 30 years, retiring due to ill health in 1995.
He was truly loved by his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. Butch was a NASCAR enthusiast and was content spending time at his garage. His beloved dog, Thunder, was his faithful companion.

He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Whitman, who died in 2001.

Survivors include his wife, the former Cheryl K. Francisco, whom he married on April 11, 1965, 2 sons, Leonard C. (Brenda) Gasner Jr. of Broadalbin and Michael J. (Carolann) Gasner of Amsterdam; a daughter, Michelle P. Stewart of Broadalbin; his parents, Clayton and Jane Gasner of Broadalbin; a brother, William J. (Pat) Gasner of Amsterdam; 4 sisters, Carol J. Kosinski of Galway, Patricia G. (Ron) Smith of Mission Viejo, Ca., Judy A. (Jerry) Flynn of Troy, and Pamella J. (Chuck) Marchese of Latham; a brother-in-law, Gene Whitman of Amsterdam; 3 grandchildren, Bryan, Kristie and Ryan; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin with the Rev. Doug Blanc, officiating. Spring burial will be in Foster Hill Cemetery, Galway. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to his family.

Richard N. Pelcher

A memorial gathering celebrating the life of Richard N. Pelcher, 58, formerly of Edinburg, will be held at the Hickory Ridge Country Club in Holley, New York on January 15, 2005. Mr. Pelcher passed away, with family at his side, on December 26, 2004, succumbing to a year long battle with cancer.

Dick was predeceased by his father, Harold. He is survived by his loving family, wife Michele Spring, of Brockport, NY; daughters, Kathryn Williams, of Hilton, NY, Amanda and Danielle Pelcher, of Brockport, NY; mother, Louise Pelcher and sister, Patricia (Lester) Beninati, both of Ballston Spa, NY and sister Barbara (Leroy) Foerster of Orange Grove, Texas. Mr. Pelcher is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Dick was a 1964 graduate of Northville Central School.
As an active participant of the Vietnam War, Dick was awarded The Bronze Star with Cluster for heroism. Awards also included the Infantry Combat Medal and Purple Heart.

Dick was an avid golfer and became club champion at Brockport and Hickory Ridge Country Clubs as a result of following his life long love for the sport.

Contributions may be made to any cancer organization in Richard's memory.

Clyde Siver Jr.

Clyde Siver Jr., 79, formerly of Mayfield, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home following a long illness. He was born in Saratoga on March 4, 1925. The son of the late Clyde and Ethel Wheeler Siver Sr.

Clyde was employed as a gloveworker for the former Serfis Glove Company and Chase Glove Company. He also worked at George Whitman taxidermy at one time.

Survivors include his half brother, George Whitman of Mayfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his half brother, Hamlet Whitman; and his sister, Edith Gifford.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 6, 2005 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. with Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. Burial will be in King Cemetery, Northampton in the spring.

Ellamary 'Dib' Wyllie

Ellamary "Dib" Wyllie, 76, of Mayfield, died Monday at Mt. Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam. She was born June 2, 1928 in Moreau, N.Y., daughter of the late Floyd and Gladys Harris Dibble. She was educated in Moreau area schools and a graduate of the former Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Wyllie was among the first to be licensed as a nurse practitioner. "Dib," as she was know, was the executive director of the American Cancer Society in Gloversville and in forming the Planned Parenthood program. She left the area in 1982 moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she worked as a nurse practitioner with Planned Parenthood of the Community Health Department of the Clark County Health Department. Returning to Gloversville in 1995, she again worked for Planned Parenthood in Gloversville and also for the Schenectady County and Mohawk Valley Planned Parenthood. She was also a member of the Sacandaga Ladies Golf League. Mrs. Wyllie was married September 2, 1948 to William F. Willie,who died in 1988. Survivors include her daughter, Colleen Emrick of Mayfield; a son, David A. Wyllie of Northville; a sister, Wanda Fosmire of Hudson Falls; three grandchildren; Audra Pesce, Jason Warner and Chad Emrick. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville.

Linda J. Ray

Linda J. Ray, 57, of Central Square, NY, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at Pontiac Nursing Home, Oswego, after a long illness. Born in Gloversville, she had lived there until 5 years ago when she moved to Central Square. Surviving are a daughter, Jean Mauceri of Schenectady; 2 grandchildren, Shelby and Jake; her mother, Jean Pryme of Central Square; and a sister, Marlene Frederick of Central Square. There are no services or calling hours. Spring burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Arrangements by Watson Funeral Home Inc., Central Square, NY.

Richard C. Vokatis

Richard C. Vokatis, 65, of Linda Drive, Hagaman, passed away Tuesday evening at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, with his family at his side.

Born in Amsterdam on Christmas day, Dec. 25, 1939, the only child of Charles and Sophie Malik Vokatis, he graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School and the Hudson Valley Community College. He later completed his education to become a New York State licensed advanced certified assessor. Richard was employed by the Grand Union and later he and his wife opened the Smokey Hollow Electronics and Hobbies. Richard was an active member of the Perth community, serving as town assessor and for the town of Perth. He was employed as an insurance inspector at the time of his death by the Fulmont Mutual Insurance Company. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam.

His many interests and hobbies included being a ham radio operator and participating in radio-controlled airplane design and competition. For many years he owned standard-bred horses that raced at Saratoga Harness track and was also involved in modified stock car racing. An avid baseball fan, he spent years collecting cards and memorabilia. He also enjoyed boating and was a member of the Sacandaga Boat Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara M. Kormanek, whom he married on Sept. 15, 1963; two children, Lynne Vokatis of Amsterdam and Richard J. Vokatis and his wife Barbara of West Galway and several cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be con-celebrated Friday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Frs. David Mickiewicz and Walter Cechowicz celebrants. Interment is in St. Stanislaus' Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass. At Richard's request, there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus School, Cornell Street, Amsterdam or the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Albany 12211. The family has entrusted his arrangements to the care of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.

Vivian M. Hill

Mrs. Vivian M. Hill, 86, of Ephratah, died Thursday, January 6, 2005, at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home, Gloversville, after a long illness.

She was born November 13, 1918, in the town of Ephratah. A daughter of the late Benjamin Elmer and Hazel Fisher Anderson.

Vivian was a former member of the Ephratah Rod and Gun Club, and was a member of the Western Fulton County Senior Citizens.
She was employed by the Greater Johnstown School District as a bus driver for 35 years until her retirement in 1983.

On July 29, 1939, she married Gordon J. Hill Sr. and he died January 22, 1997. Survivors include one son Gordon J. (Deborah) Hill Jr. of Ephratah; three daughters Barbara (Gordon) Carpenter, Karen Berry, and Robin (Michael) Borner all of Ephratah; two brothers Richard Anderson of Syracuse, and Gerald Anderson of Little Falls; two sisters Lila Mosher of Little Falls, and Alberta Foley of Herkimer; twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Friends and family may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Spring interment will be in Ephratah Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to Western Fulton County Senior Citizens, or to the Ephratah Reformed Church.

Gerhard 'Dutch' Ulrich

Mr. Gerhard "Dutch" Ulrich, age 78, of Gloversville, died Thursday, January 6, 2005 at Nathan Littauer Hospital following a long illness.

He was born September 15, 1926 in Gloversville, the son of Henry and Olga Ulrich.

Mr. Ulrich attended Gloversville schools. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the 76th Division from November 1944 to August 1946. Upon returning from military service, he worked as a leather worker in several Gloversville mills until retiring in 1991.
Dutch was a hunter and looked forward to spending time in the outdoors. He especially enjoyed his last few years staying at the hunting camp in Cherry Valley and cooking for "the boys." He also enjoyed his recent home and "new" family he met at the Getman Home.

Mr. Ulrich was married on August 28, 1948 to Athalie Jeanne Hample, who died August 24, 1992.

He is survived by two sons, David Ulrich and his wife Robin of North Carolina and Gary Ulrich and his wife Colleen of Mayfield; one daughter, Deborah Ulrich of Guilderland; five grandchildren, Kristy and Adam of North Carolina, Christopher and Tyler Ulrich of Mayfield and Daunte Bowers of Guilderland.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Heinrich and Erich.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Bonnie Orth officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Assoc., 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.

James M. Rizzo
Sunday, January 09, 2005
James M. Rizzo, 45, of No. Manning Blvd. Ext., Albany, passed away Friday morning at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Born in Utica, NY on Nov. 30, 1959, the son of John and Faith Palmer Rizzo, he moved to Amsterdam at the age of five. James was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute and Bishop Scully High School Class of 1977. He furthered his education and received a bachelors degree in English and a minor in History from SUNY Albany. He went on to receive a BA in psychology from Empire State College in Albany. In 1991, he received his registered nurse certification from Albany Memorial Hospital. Following his return from serving a two-year mission in Italy with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he went to work at the Lexington Center in Johnstown. He later worked at the Fulton County Dept. of Social Services and the Wilkinson Health Care Facility, first as an aide, and later as an RN. Jim was last employed by St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady as a nursing supervisor in the critical care unit becoming disabled in 2002.

Jim loved the Lord, whom he dedicated his life to serving. He was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. From 1986 to 1990 he served with the US Army Reserves and National Guard.
On April 11, 1987, he was married to the former Karen Ballou of Gloversville. His son, Sean Jared Rizzo, also of Gloversville, survives.

Jim also leaves his parents, John A. Rizzo and his longtime companion Janet Lynch; his mother Faith Palmer, all of Albany; his brother: John M. Rizzo and his wife Maryann of Colchester, Vt.; his sisters, Rose Rizzo of Averill Park, and Elizabeth Hayes and her husband Steven of Granville, NY; a sister in law: Katherine Maciol of Averill Park; nieces: April and Amber Rizzo and Rachael Hayes; nephews: A.J. Rizzo and Christopher Hayes; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services are Tuesday morning at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Interment is in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to an education fund for his son, in care of Karen Brown, 193 Lathrop Rd., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Chester P. Johnson Sr.

Chester P. Johnson, Sr., 91, a former resident of Delmar, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004. Mr. Johnson was born in Amsterdam, NY on December 13, 1912 and was a 1930 graduate of Amsterdam High School. He was a co-founder of the Albany Appliance Distributors, Inc. in 1962 retiring as VIce President in 1986.

Mr. Johnson joined the US Army Reserve Corps in 1929 and was discharged in 1932 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was also a professional musician, playing with the Mohawk Carpet Mills Band in Amsterdam and several area orchestras. Mr. Johnson was a long-time member of the Delmar Reformed Church. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, spending his leisure time in the Sacandaga Valley.

Mr. Johnson was the widower of Emily Lukens Johnson who passed away in 1954 and Doris M. Platt Johnson who passed away in 1988. He is survived by his children, Chester P. (Skip) Johnson and his wife Dian of Waterford and Sally J. Fletcher of Gloversville and a sister-in-law, Margaret Johnson of Amsterdam. Other survivors include many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ret. Col. Gordon F. Johnson and Emmett Johnson and a son, Conrad T. Johnson.
Graveside services will be held in the spring at Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar, NY.

Josephine Russo Bunn

Mrs. Josephine Russo Bunn, 99, died early Tuesday morning, February 11, 2003, at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home, Gloversville. She was a resident there for seven years.

She was born September 16, 1903, in Naples, Italy, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Gentile Russo. In 1909, her family came to Gloversville where she lived for many years. She also resided in Stoner Lake for 40 years and in Johnstown for 10 years.

Mrs. Bunn was a glove worker, employed by the Elite Glove Shop and Crocetta Gloves, both formerly in Gloversville. She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sophie Russo; niece Mary Ricciardi; nephew Nicholas Russo; grandniece Aimee Ricciardi; and great grandnephews, Austin Ricciardi and Shawn Morrison, all of Gloversville; and several cousins in Italy.

She was predeceased by her husband of more than 57 years, Freeman Bunn, who died January 28, 1983; and by a brother, Antonio Russo, who died in 1997.

A prayer service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of your choice.

Gail Susan Sebast Knapp

Gail Susan Sebast Knapp, 40, of Dewey Street, Gastonia, N.C., died Feb. 9, 2003 at her residence.

A native of Albany County, N.Y., she was the daughter of James Kenneth and Marjorie Louise Gale Sebast.

She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include her parents; her husband, Daniel D. Knapp; sons, Brandon and Brett Knapp; siblings and their spouses, Kim and Kenneth Weaver of Lusby, Md., Mark and Connie Lou Sebast of Amsterdam, N.Y., Glenn and Janet Sebast of North Fort Myers, Fla. and Patricia Sebast of Tampa, Fla.

A funeral service took place at 11 a.m. today at Victory Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Sandy Bozeman and Rev. Glenn Sebast officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Victory Hill Baptist Church, PO Box 638, Dallas, NC 28034. Arrangements are by Carothers Funeral Home, Dallas, NC.

Barbara Subik

Barbara Subik, 86, formerly of Matthew Street, Johnstown, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Extended Care Facility after a long illness.

Born Jan. 19, 1917, in Johnstown, the daughter of Paul and Barbara Carsky Subik. She graduated from Johnstown schools.

She was employed by the former Knox Gelatin Co. of Johnstown, Swears Glove Co. and last by Halo Optical.
She was a member of St. Anthony's church.

She is survived by two brothers, Forian and Anthony Subik, both of Johnstown. She was predeceased by four sisters, Doris H. Subik, Cecilia Dominiak, Helen Benosky and Elizabeth Komornik; and two brothers, Voytech Subik and Edward Subik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Church, Johnstown with Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor of Johnstown Catholic Community, officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Johnstown in the spring. Calling hours will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Church or charity of one's choice.

Charlotte Roickle Deckro
Saturday, February 14, 2004
Charlotte Roickle Deckro, 87, a life long area resident of the village of Fonda, passed away February 12 at St. Mary's Hospital. Charlotte was the daughter of the late Edward and Charlotte Veeder Roickle. She was born in Fonda, June 19, 1916.

She graduated from Fonda High School as Salutatorian of the Class of 1934. She was also a graduate of Amsterdam Business School. Charlotte was employed in several local businesses, including Templeton Industries in Fonda and Sprakers Insurance in Fonda where she was a broker and then a principal of the business. She was also a homemaker.

Charlotte was a seventy-two-year member of the Fonda Reformed Church. She was an active member of the Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Mohawk Valley Chapter No. 489 of Fultonville, The Daughters of the American Revolution, FFVAC, Glen Mohawk Seniors as well as a member of other civic and social organizations.
Charlotte was married in New York City in the Little Church around the Corner on May 15, 1943 to Floyd Deckro who passed away on September 10, 1979.

She was also predeceased by a son, Thomas David Deckro, and her brother Edward Roickle.

Charlotte is survived by her two daughters Mrs. Charlotte Deckro Bobilin of Fair Haven, NJ, and Karen and her husband Ellsworth Simpson of Fonda, NY. Two sons, Richard Deckro of Beavercreek, OH, and John Deckro and his wife Gloria Ruth of Sharon, Mass as well as one sister Helen Roickle Stanton of Fonda, NY.

She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grand children as well as a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Fonda Reformed Church, with the Rev. Chris DeGraff officiating. Private Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand flats, Fonda. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St. Fultonville.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Fonda Reformed Church.

Helen J. Podschelne, age 81, formerly of Gloversville, died Monday morning at the Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness. Born July 24, 1922 in Gloversville, she was the daughter of Peter and Freda Buyce Parker. She attended Gloversville High School and was a life long area resident.

Mrs. Podschelne owned and operated the former B & H Embroidery Shop, located on Arlington Ave. in Gloversville for 12 years.

She attended the First Free Methodist Church of Gloversville. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 2077 and the 55 Plus Senior Citizens, both of Gloversville and Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Center of Johnstown and the Rebekah Lodge. She was a member and former chairman of the International Order of Odd Fellows. She was a member of the Out Reach of Gloversville and was very active in the Fulmont Community.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Eugene H. Podschelne, who died August 17, 1997. She was also predeceased by one granddaughter, Deborah Sharon Munchback; and one brother, Wilbur Parker.

Mrs. Podschelne is survived by one son, Eugene Podschelne Jr. and his wife Marsha of East Hampton, Mass.; three daughters, Donna Hallett and her husband Winston of Amsterdam, Sharon Gray and her husband Robert of Cobleskill, NY and Deborah Rorick and her husband Robert of Gloversville; one brother, Peter Parker Jr. of Schenectady, NY; three sisters, Nina Hoffmire of Brooksville, Fla., Esther Kucel of Gloversville and Audrey Frohn of Gloversville; many grandchildren and many step grandchildren; several great grandchildren and step great grandchildren; two step great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Winston Hallett officiating. Interment will take place at the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.

Thomas Gerald Adams

Lt. Col. Thomas Gerald Adams, (U.S. Marine Corps, retired), age 70, of Linville Land Harbor, Newland, N.C., died December 22, 2004, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.

He was born August 9, 1934, in Amsterdam, New York, to the late Seymour and Stephanie Kozarewicz Adams. He was graduated from S.U.N.Y. in Brockport, New York in 1956 with a B.S. degree in Education and from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. in 1983 with a M.A. degree in Education. In 1971, he attended the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and completed a course with Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C. Mr. Adams retired as a Lt. Col. in 1980, after serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 until 1980, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded 2 bronze star medals with Combat V and 2 Navy commendation medals. From 1981 until 1983, he was a graduate student in Administration of Higher Education at A.S.U., after which he served as assistant director of International Studies and China Project, foreign student advisor and instructor of Interdisciplinary Studies. He also taught a course on the Vietnam War. Mr. Adams was a member of the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs, the N.C. Association for Foreign Student Affairs, serving on the state executive board and the Watauga chapter of the Retired Officers Association, serving on the Board of Directors. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Boone, having served as president, vice-president, district Lt. Governor, a Meals on Wheels volunteer and Cannon Memorial Hospital volunteer. He was currently secretary-treasurer and a board member of the Boone Kiwanis Scholarship Foundation. He was "Kiwanian of the Year" in 1981. He was a former chairman of the board of directors of Valle Crucis Park Association. Mr. Adams was a former commissioner and assistant district chairman of the Watauga District of the Old Hickory Council of Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the district committee and received the district award of merit. He served as president and secretary and as chairman of the board of directors of the Watauga United Way campaign.

Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Jean Cooper Adams, of the home; one daughter, Susan Adams and husband, William Gilsdorf, of Angier, N.C.; one son, Gregory M. Adams and wife, Kristen Derrick, of Hot Springs, N.C., one brother, Gerald Thomas Adams, of Johnstown, New York; a sister-in-law, Joan Adams, of Gloversville, New York and a niece, Lorri Sabino and husband, Mike, of Utica, New York.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, February 12, at 2 p.m at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel in Boone, N.C., with Chaplain Hal Meador officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boone Kiwanis Club Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 87, Boone, N.C., 28607 or to Cannon Memorial Hospital Foundation, 434 Hospital Drive, Linville, N.C., 28662.
