Walter C. Klayer
MOHAWK — Mr. Walter C. Klayer Jr., age 46, of 2435 State Rt. 28, Mohawk, passed away on February 7, 2003, at his home.
He was born on September 25, 1956, in Herkimer, a son of the late Walter C. and Mary Ellen (Knox) Klayer. He received his education in Mohawk schools and lived the greater part of his life in the Mohawk area. He married Pamela Perry on September 8, 1979, in the town of Warren. Walter was last employed with Barrett Paving in New York Mills. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife Pamela of the home address; four children, Walter C. Klayer III, Jeffery David Robert Klayer, Melinda Marie Klayer and Courtney Ann Klayer; two sisters, Margaret "Peg" Trefzger and husband Edwin of Ilion and Ellen Joyce Huyck of Herkimer; several nieces, including Elissa Anderson and Hilary Huyck, and a nephew, Edwin Trefzger, in-laws and many friends.
The funeral service will commence at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 10, in the chapel of the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N.  Washington St., Herkimer.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 p.m. before the funeral service. Kindly consider remembrances to the American Heart Association. Interment will be held later this spring in Crown Hill Cemetery, New Hartford, in the family plot. Kenneth W. Burke
ILION — Mr. Kenneth W. Burke, 75, of Prindle Apartments, Ilion, passed away on Thursday morning, February 6, 2003, at his home with his family at his side.
He was born on July 10, 1927, in Utica, son of Stewart and Pearl Burke. He married Betty J. Hall on August 23, 1953, in the Methodist church in Ilion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was employed with the A&P Grocery Store, Remington Arms and Birnie Bus. He was a former member of the Ilion Moose Club, as well as an avid pitcher for various softball leagues and was an umpire. He was a volunteer fireman and a member of the Ilion Rescue Squad.
Besides his wife Betty, he leaves four daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Bruce Mansell of California, Kimberly and Santo Falbo of Frankfort, Laurie and Daniel Brisson of Marcy and Lynn and Kevin Golas of Little Falls; nine grandchildren, Bryan, Britton, Karli, Cory, Alyssa, Courtney, Heather, Kenneth and Chad; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Blaise; one brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Marie Clements of Whitesboro; several nieces including Carole Clements; and several nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family and pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort, on Saturday, February 8, from 3-5 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. where full military honors will be accorded with the Rev. Carlton VanOrnum, pastor emeritus of the First Methodist Church in Rome, officiating. Mr. Burke will be laid to rest at the family's convenience.
Kenneth's family wishes to thank Judy, Mark, Theresa and Monica of Hospice Care, Inc. for their support and compassion, also to the doctors and staff of Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown and a special thank you to Sandy Smith. Ken was always there for his family and will be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mildred M. Hobb
LITTLE FALLS — Mildred M. Hobb, 82, of 14 Valley Brook Dr., Little Falls, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. She was born on January 25, 1921, in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Hessler) Follmer. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School, class of 1938. She was united in marriage to Ernest H. Hobb on July 29, 1944, at Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls, with the Rev. JFK Riebisell officiating. Mr. Hobb predeceased her on February 25, 2003. Mrs. Hobb was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls. She taught Sunday school for a number of years and was active in various church organizations. She is survived by her sister, Alice Lamb, and a sister-in-law, Minnie Anderson, both of Little Falls, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers, Alex Follmer, Lt. Col. Jacob Follmer, John P. Follmer, Edward G. Follmer and Henry Follmer, and a sister, Erna Monahan. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. from the Christ Lutheran Church, 14 Petrie Street, Little Falls, with Vicar James Paulson officiating. Interment will take place for both Mr. Ernest H. Hobb and Mrs. Mildred M. Hobb on Tuesday, April 22, in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mildred M. Deborah E. Rickard
HERKIMER — On Wednesday evening, April 16, Deborah E. Rickard, age 48, a lifelong Herkimer resident, entered into eternal rest at Crouse Irving Hospital, Syracuse, after a six-year courageous battle with cancer. Her mother, Patricia, was at her side at the time of her passing.
Deborah was born on March 11, 1955, in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Kenneth Rickard and Patricia (Dypa) Rickard, who resides in Herkimer. She was raised and educated in Herkimer and attended Herkimer County Community College. She was last employed with Off Track Betting in Herkimer and sold Avon products in Herkimer. She was of the Catholic Faith.
She leaves her loving mother, Patricia of Herkimer and friend Joe; maternal grandmother, Gladys Dypa of Herkimer; one aunt, Roberta Farouche of Frankfort; and several cousins, including, Alesia Forlenza and husband Anthony of Frankfort. Deborah's father passed away on April 11, 1973, and she was also preceded in death by her aunt, Vivian Rickard, and paternal grandmother, Bertha Rickard.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N.  Washington St., Herkimer, on Friday (today), from 5-8 p.m. Deborah's funeral will commence at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, April 19, from the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Shinos, pastor of the Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer, officiating. Procession will follow to Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, where Deborah will be laid to rest in the family plot. Kindly consider honoring Deborah's memory with contributions to the Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Howard E. Rogers
SALISBURY CENTER — Howard E. Rogers, 91, formerly of P0 Box 73, Salisbury Center, and since July 20, 1995, a resident of Valley Health Services, Inc., Herkimer, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at that residence. He was born June 2, 1911, in the town of Fairfield, the son of the late William T. and Lucy Ann (Simons) Rogers. He was educated in the Dolgeville schools. He was united in marriage to his wife of 70 years the former Sylvia Moore on March 31, 1933, in Salisbury Center by the Rev. Wesley Baker. Mr. Rogers was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia; two daughters, Marlene Guido of Mohawk and Myrna Daniels of Little Falls; five grandchildren, Philip Douglas of Mohawk, Linda Crocker of Little Falls, Steven Guido of Peekskill and Kim and Todd Daniels of Little Falls and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Rogers was predeceased by a brother, Arnold Rogers, and a sister, Mabel Cool. Graveside services will be held at the Curtis Cemetery, town of Salisbury, on Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Jeffers, pastor of the Salisbury United Methodist Church, officiating. In keeping with Mr. Rogers wishes there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. Allston A. McCoy Jr.
MOHAWK — Allston A. McCoy, "Jay," age 76, of Kingdom Road, entered into eternal rest on Sunday evening, April 13, 2003, in Little Falls Hospital with the comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on September 1, 1926, in Ilion, son of the late Allston A. and Alma E. Fallon. A lifelong area resident, he was educated in both Ilion and Herkimer schools. On July 23, 1948, he married Eunice Brown in the family home, town of Columbia. For 37 years he owned and operated the McCoy Dairy-Homestead. He retired in 1982. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Euince; two sons, the Rev. David McCoy and his wife Christine of Whitesboro and Robert McCoy of Little Falls; two daughters and their husbands, Mary Ann and the Rev. Roger  White of Machias and Nancy and the Rev. Doug Weygand of Lebanon, Pa.; a brother, Robert McCoy of Ilion; three sisters, Barbara McCoy of Dolgeville, Virginia Shaw of Frankfort and Thresea Foster of Ilion; a daughter in-law, Loree Gallagher of Mohawk; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, William McCoy in 1986; a brother, Arthur McCoy; and two sisters, Marion Warlock and Esther Dubraba. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, Little Falls. The Rev. Donald Dixon, pastor, will officiate. Mr. McCoy will be laid to rest in the Dennison Corners Cemetery at a time convenient to the family. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer, to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Gideon's International or the Little Falls Hospital Development Fund. Paul O. Duane
LITTLE FALLS — Mr. Paul O. Duane, age 92, formerly of Sandy Lane and 550 E. John St., Little Falls, and most recently a resident at the Country Manor Nursing Home, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Saturday morning, April 12, 2003, in Little Falls Hospital.
Mr. Duane was born on December 25, 1910, in New York City, a son of the late David and Catherine (McElroy) Duane. He was raised and educated in New York City and at one time lived in  White Plains. On July 13, 1930, he was united in holy matrimony with the former Helen Mikus at Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church in Little Falls. Mrs. Duane passed away on January 18, 2001. He was last employed as a foreman with the former H.P. Snyder Manufacturing Company for many years, retiring in 1975. Mr. Duane was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls.
He leaves behind three beloved daughters, Jacqueline Kelly and husband Gene of Glens Falls, Barbara Stock and husband Earl of Little Falls and Kathleen Martin of Bridgewater; six cherished grandchildren, Brian Kelly, David Fantera, Deborah Fantera and husband John Fontillas, Sharon Fantera, Theresa Stock and husband Richard Melendez and Kristina Rose and husband Michael; three adored great-grandchildren, Brittany and Michael Rose and Alexandra Melendez; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paulette Fantera, and a sister, Kathleen Rixon.
Visitation at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, will be on Monday, April 14 (today), from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Duane's funeral will commence at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 15, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered by the Rev. Charles R. Celeste, pastor of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls. Music will be offered by Helen Maksymicz, organist. Kindly consider honoring Mr. Duane's memory with contributions to the Country Manor Nursing Home. Envelopes are available at the Enea Funeral Home. Spring interment will be held in Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls.

Gary A. Pelzer
LITTLE FALLS — Gary A. Pelzer, 54, of 84 Church St., Little Falls, passed away Friday, May 30, 2003, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford, where he had been a patient since May 24, 2003. He was born on May 18, 1949, in Little Falls, son of Dorothy A. (Stallman) Pelzer and the late Henry A. Pelzer. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School, class of 1967, and a graduate of Herkimer County Community College. He also attended Mohawk Valley Community College and SUNY Morrisville. Mr. Pelzer was employed for 14 years as an equipment operator for the town of Manheim Highway Deptartment, retiring due to ill health in 1992. He is survived by his mother Dorothy of Little Falls; two brothers, Larry Pelzer and his wife Margaret of Poughkeepsie and Robert Pelzer of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Henry, who died on March 21, 1966, and his sister, Gail Neuhaus, who died on April 20, 2002. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, at 10 a.m. from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls, with Vicar Lames Paulson of Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls, officiating. Final interment will take place in Mt. View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Pelzer be considered to Christ Lutheran Church, Petrie Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. Ruth I. Grauman
HERKIMER — Ruth I. Grauman, 85, formerly of Inghams Mills and of Midtown Aptartments, Herkimer, and more recently of the Folts Home, Herkimer, passed away Friday, May 30, 2003, at that residence. She was born on September 24, 1917, in Little Falls, daughter of the late William and Florence (Leavitt) Eaker. She was educated in Dolgeville schools. She was united in marriage to Roy M. Grauman on April 10, 1937, at the First Baptist Church Parsonage, Little Falls. Mr. Grauman predeceased her on June 9, 1990. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Frank Compolo Sr. of East Herkimer; her grandson, Dr. Frank W. Compolo Jr. of Syracuse; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Eaker and Jesse Eaker, both of Herkimer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Clarence Eaker, who died in 1966; Justus Eaker, who died in 1986; and Arthur Eaker, who died in 2001; and by three sisters, Esther Mae Mang, who died in 1999; Olga Hughes, who died in 2000; and Jane Doxtader, who died in 2000. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, at 11 a.m. from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls, with Rev. David Ortel, chaplain of the Folts Home, Herkimer, officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Annabell Compo Kocher, 96, of 7136 Lakeshore Road, Cicero, died Wednesday. She was born in St. Regis Falls. She was employed at Dietz Lantern and Fremont Sauerkraut Co., Clay. She was a member of the Young at Heart Club, Clay Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary and the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Clay. Her husband, Milford, died in 1974. Odette S. Misik, 81, of Masters Road, DeWitt, died Wednesday at Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville. Born in Hussingy, France, she lived in the United States for 48 years. She retired in 1983 after 20 years as a French and German teacher at Bishop Ludden High School. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Solace Church. Survivors: Her husband, Walter; a daughter, Suzanne Pietropaolo of DeWitt; two sons, Gerald of Palmyra and Ronald of Houston; a sister, Muguette Nierenhausen of Rodange, Luxembourg; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Irving Phillips, 95, of Syracuse died Thursday at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. A life resident of Syracuse, he graduated in 1924 from Central High School. He retired in 1968 as a carpenter with E.W. Edwards & Sons. He was a member of Temple Beth El, Carpenters Union Local 12 and Onondaga Post 131 Jewish War Veterans. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 61 years, the former Rebecca Strauss; a daughter, Eileen Phillips of Syracuse. Services: Noon Sunday at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel. Burial, Beth El Cemetery. Marguerite A. VanBree of Manlius died Thursday. Born in Minneapolis, she graduated from the State University College at Buffalo. She retired in 1969 as an administrative assistant at the State University College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse. She was employed previously as the registrar at Buffalo State University Teachers College and Champlain College in Plattsburgh. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Catherine M. Ward, 50, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday. Born in Syracuse, she lived in East Syracuse for most of her life. She graduated in 1970 from Bishop Grimes High School and in 1974 from Maria Regina College. She retired in 2000 after 13 years as a librarian at Immaculate Conception School, Fayetteville. She was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church in East Syracuse, a former staff member of the St. Matthew's News Letter and was a librarian at St. Cecilia's School, Solvay. Her parents, Michael and Jessie Slater Ward, died previously. Survivors: Several aunts, uncles and cousins. Irene D. Short Wheel, 92, of 4503 W. Seneca Turnpike, Onondaga Hill, died Sunday. Born in Rochester, she lived in Syracuse before moving to Onondaga Hill. She was the owner of Pet Haven animal cemetery. She was a member of Twilight Rebecca Lodge 285 and Onondaga Hill Presbyterian Church. Her first husband, Clinton DeWolf, died in 1960. Her second husband, Adlai Wheel Sr., died in 1997. A son, Ernest DeWolf, died in 1999. Survivors: A daughter, Frances Bliss of North Syracuse; two sons, Harold DeWolf of North Syracuse and Charles DeWolf of Mattydale; a stepdaughter, Joanne Robinson of Marcellus; a stepson, Adlai Wheel Jr. of Onondaga Hill; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. He retired five years ago after many years as a truck driver with Gearsbeck Trucking, Central Square. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors: His wife, the former Janet Parent; a daughter, Patty Guerra of  Washington state; two sons, Dennis of Constantia and William of  Washington state; two sisters, Barbara Miano of Hannibal and Doris Tindall of Florida; three brothers, Edwin of Fulton, Marvin of New Hampshire and Carl of Hannibal; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
