Craig A. Gibson

Mr. Craig A. Gibson, 27, of Ft. Johnson, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam after being stricken at home.

He was born April 6. 1976 in Amsterdam, the son of Wayne and Cheryl Majewski Gibson.

Mr. Gibson was a Mayfield High School graduate and was a leather sorter, employed by Foothills Leather, Johnstown.
He was a member of both the Robin's Nest and Meco Softball leagues and was an active member of the Perry Lanes Bowling League. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the NY Yankees, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Colorado Avalanche.

Mr. Gibson is survived by his father and stepmother, Wayne A. and Allison Gibson of Gloversville; girl friend, Diana G. Steinberger of Fort Johnson; two brothers, Anthony Lee Gibson of Amsterdam and Trevor R. Gibson of Gloversville; a sister, Stacy Lynn Gibson of Schenectady; grandfather, Frank Majewski of Amsterdam; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Gibson was predeceased by his mother, Cheryl Majewski Gibson in 1978.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. George Hopper officiating. Interment will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Alice Hladik
Wednesday, March 31, 2004
Alice Hladik, 95, formerly of N. Melcher St., Johnstown, died Tuesday, March 30, at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.

She was born Aug. 7, 1908 in Poland, the daughter of Aloysis and Rose Givizdr Niemczura.

Mrs. Hladik worked as a glove maker for Crescendoe Glove Co., retiring in 1974.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Church and Johnstown 50 Plus Senior Citizens Center.

She was married to the late Ferdinand A. Hladik on Nov. 24, 1929 and he died June 12, 1981.

She is survived by a son, George F. Hladik of Gloversville; a daughter, Alice J. Ackernecht of Johnstown; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Rogowitz of Scotia.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church, Johnstown with Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Johnstown in the spring. Calling hours will be Thursday 7-9 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Parish, Johnstown.

David R. Sherman

David R. Sherman, age 40, of Richmond, VA, entered into eternal rest on March 1, 2004.

He was born July 8, 1963 in Ilion, NY. A resident of Amsterdam since age four, he graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1981. He later moved to Los Angeles and received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from UCLA.

David's courage served as an inspiration to all those who knew him.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Sherman of Richmond, VA; father, Richard Sherman and Chris Newhart of Los Angeles, CA; sisters, Janis McDonnell and Karen Mitchell and her husband, John; brother, R.J. Sherman Jr. and his wife Danielle; maternal grandmother, Doris Simmons Lockrow of Broadalbin; paternal grandmother, R. Agnes Clark; nieces and nephew, Christine, Erin and Richie; brother-in-law, Denis McDonnell; his dear friend, Morgan Greenwood; Bob, his much beloved cat; and many relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Broadalbin with the Rev. Paul R. Moyer officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Ruth A. Miller

Mrs. Ruth A. Miller, 46, of Gloversville, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at home after a long illness.

She was born September 29, 1957 in Gloversville.

Ruth was a graduate of Gloversville High School and received her LPN degree through the BOCES program; she later received her RN degree from Fulton Montgomery Community College.
Ruth attended and was a charter member of the Adirondack Baptist Church.

She was employed as an RN at Nathan Littauer Hospital and also operated a home day care program, Precious Treasurers until 2002 when she became ill.

Survivors include her husband, Jeff Miller, whom she married April 10, 1976; two sons, Eric (Jody) Miller of Charleston and Bill Miller of Gloversville; one daughter, Amy Miller of Gloversville; three brothers, Robert (Dawn) Berry of Gloversville, Daniel (Chong) Berry of Mayfield, James (Isabel) Berry of Canada; three sisters, Betty (Lester) Germain of Gloversville, Mary (David) Mills of Gloversville and Debbie (Douglas) Kirkwood of Canada; her mother, Betty Miller of Gloversville; one grandson, Anthony Miller; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father, James Berry, who died October 26, 2003.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Adirondack Baptist Church, 1431 St. Hwy. 29, Gloversville with Rev. Brian Norman officiating.

Friends and family may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Adirondack Baptist Church.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Adirondack Baptist Church Building Fund or Mountain Valley Hospice.

John A. LaMont

Mr. John A. LaMont, 49, of Johnstown, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.

He was born on January 10, 1955 in Gloversville, the son of George and Ellen Borst LaMont.

Mr. LaMont was employed as a leather worker at Adirondack Leather, Johnstown.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting; was also an auto mechanic, and enjoyed working on race cars and was an avid racing fan.

Mr. LaMont was married to Teresa Page LaMont on April 11, 1981, who survives him.

He is also survived by two sons, John Michael LaMont of Gloversville and John LaMont Jr. of Johnstown; a daughter, Ellen LaMont of Johnstown; grandchildren, Adriena and Anthony LaMont; and several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. R.W. Williams officiating.

Dorothy Ellis

Dorothy Ellis, passed away Sunday on March 6, 2005, the daughter of Clyde Wilder and Gladys Vickery after a long illness. She was surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her faithful dog, Pudgie at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Robert Skowton in Pittsfield, MA, where she has resided since 2004. She was born on March 12, 1929 in Gloversville, N.Y. She married Robert L. Ellis on August 28, 1948, who passed away on April 28, 1992. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1947. She worked at Winig, Coleco and with the Green Thumb program. She was a current member of the Gloversville Moose, the Rebekahs, the Gloversville Senior Center, and the Foothills United Methodist Church, formerly Fremont. She was also a former member of the Johnstown Moose Club and the Berkshire Fire Department Auxiliary. Mrs. Ellis was predeceased by two sons, Wayne L. Ellis and Danny Ellis in 1997. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Edna Buckley, Beverly Ellis and Doris Baldwin. Dorothy is survived by her children, William and Marie Ellis Tennessee, Ronald Sr. and Linda Ellis from Gloversville, Richard and Karen Ellis from Wisconsin, Lynn and Robert Skowron from Massachusetts, Larry and Lisa Ellis from Mayfield, Michael and Mindy Ellis from Mayfield, Margaret and Vernon III from Northville. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Terrie Blowers from Mayfield and Lori Ellis from Gloversville; and her 37 loving grandchildren and spouses; and 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. The family will be receiving friends on Wed. 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Gloversville Senior Center, Church St., Gloversville, N.Y.

Alice V. Horton Hart

Mrs. Alice V. Horton Hart, 75, of Prospect Ave., Gloversville, died Sunday, March 30, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.

She was born June 13, 1927 in Gloversville, the daughter of Thaddeus and Verna Travis Horton. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1945, and then attended the former Gloversville Business School. Many years ago she was employed as a bookkeeper at the former Garlock's Garage of Gloversville. She attended Immaculate Conception Church, Johnstown.

Survivors include her husband, Leo E. Hart, whom she married on July 16, 1949, also her daughter, Barbara J. Hollister and her husband, George E. Hollister of Bolton Landing; a brother, Malcolm D. Horton of Niskayuna; a grandson, Brian H. Hollister of Clifton Park; a niece, Linda Hood; and a nephew, Thomas Horton.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated 10:00 Tuesday morning at Immaculate Conception Church, Johnstown. the Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor of the Roman Catholic Community of Johnstown, was the celebrant. Interment took place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Richard Lewis Klingbeil

Richard Lewis Klingbeil, 68, of Prospect St., Johnstown, died Saturday, March 29, in Fredericksburg, VA, while visiting his son.

Born March 3, 1935 in Tribes Hill, the son of Raymond and Edna Stevens Klingbeil. He served in the U.S. Army 1958-60 after graduating from Fonda-Fultonville schools.

He worked as an iron worker for Local No. 12 Steel Workers Union.
He was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge.

He was married to Carol VanSlyke on March 31, 1961.

He is survived by his wife, Carol VanSlyke Klingbeil of Johnstown; two sons, Richard L. Klingbeil Jr. of Fredericksburg, VA, and his wife Jennifer and children Holly, Richard III, Brian and Jeremy and Mark Klingbeil and his wife Barbara and children Matthew and Megan of Saratoga; two daughters, Lynn and her husband Claude Bennett with children Gordan and Mackenzie of Naples, FL, and Laurie and her husband Tim Zalig with children Mark and Billy of Okinawa; four sisters, Marion Johnes of Randall, Norma Saullo of Amsterdam, Leda Walsh of Randall and Linda Thomas of Amsterdam; three brothers, Melvin Klingbeil of Texas, Robert Klingbeil of Hudson and Raymond Klingbeil of Pennsylvania. Mr. Klingbeil is also survived by a special nephew, Jeff Klingbeil; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Lois Darrow; and a brother, Donald Klingbeil.

A funeral will be on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown with Rev. R.W. Williams, chaplain of Mt. Valley Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Calling hours will be Wednesday 5 to 8 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.

Richard C. Gray

Richard C. Gray, 59, of Johnstown, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2006 at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, following a long illness.

He was born April 9, 1947, in Gloversville, a son of the late Clayton C. and Kathryn L. Klose Gray.

Mr. Gray was a 1965 graduate of Johnstown High School, and received a BS Degree in Health and Physical Education from the State University of New York at Brockport in 1969.
Rick was a teacher at Galway Central School District for 37 years. Rick was teaching health classes to junior and senior high school students until the time of his death. He coached some of the best baseball, basketball and soccer teams leading them several times to sectional championships. He served as athletic Director for many years. He was known to his fellow workers as "Dick." He earned perfect attendance for years and set an example to everyone for his positive attitude, courage, and determination. In June 1990 he received the prestigious honor of having the Galway Yearbook dedicated to him and was also named teacher of the year by the National Honor Society. He was active in the "Its OK to Say No Program," a program for the prevention of destructive decisions such as alcohol and drugs. He was the recipient of the "Profiles and Courage Award," an award given to someone who was able to overcome obstacles in their athletic career. This award was later renamed in his honor to the "Richard Gray Profiles and Courage Award" and is awarded to student athletes that are able to overcome obstacles in their athletic career.

Rick was an avid NASCAR and Stock Car fan. For many years he raced at Fonda Speedway and area tracks as the number 47G. He also previously owned Caroga Creek Go Cart Track in Ephratah and until the time of his death maintained their Web site. He also designed and maintained Web sites for many area businesses.

Survivors include his daughter, Kristin (Greg) Vogel of Mooresville, North Carolina; two sisters, Linda (Robert) Bronk and Norene Persch, all of Meco; a granddaughter, Alexis Vogel; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 a.m. from the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Friends and family may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to the Richard Gray Profiles and Courage Award fund or the Galway Athletic Association in c/o Galway Central School District, 5317 Sacandaga Road, Galway, NY 12074.

John Dattoli

John Dattoli, 91, of Gloversville, died Monday afternoon in Glens Falls Hospital. Born in Gloversville December 16, 1914, the son of Joseph and Joan Rinaldi Dattoli. He was a carpenter at the former Pan Am Tannery in Gloversville for many years; the treasurer of the Non-Nomus Club; and a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. On October 20, 1940 he married Florrie D'Arco, who died in 2002. Survived by his daughter, Joan Spencer of Queensbury, NY; his son, Joseph (Cheri) Dattoli of Thurmont, Maryland; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, John Dattoli. Friends may call Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 South Main St., where a prayer service will be held Saturday 9:30 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mr. Dattoli's recently deceased son, his childrens' education fund. Robert S. Blackwood

Robert S. Blackwood, 63, of Mayfield, died Monday, March 31, at home after being stricken.

Born July 22, 1939 in the town of Florida, the son of Sherman and Lucy Anderson Blackwood. Mr. Blackwood was educated in Fonda schools before serving in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962.

He was employed for 36 years at Life Savers in Canajoharie, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of Ephratah Reformed Church, a former member of the Northampton Ambulance Corps; Canajoharie Eagles Aerie, Life Savers Quarter Century Club. Bob loved spending time with his family, helping friends and neighbors, and motorcycling, boating and skiing.

He was married to Thora J. Nilsen on Sept. 7, 1973.

Survived by his wife, Thora J. Nilsen Blackwood of Mayfield; a sister, Irene Becker of Johnstown; one stepson, Eric Bellinger of Glendale, Arizona; two stepdaughters, Laura Bellinger of Fort Plain and Rebecca Pine of Amsterdam; two grandsons; aunts; uncles and cousins.

A funeral will be on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown with Rev. Winston Hallett, pastor of the Ephratah Reformed Church officiating. Cremation will be in Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Calling hours will be Thursday 5 to 8 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.

Audrey M. Jones

Audrey M. Jones of Caroga Lake, N.Y., died on March 30, 2003 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, N.Y. She was 66.

Mrs. Jones was a homemaker.

Mrs. Jones was born December 11, 1936 in Stony Point, N.Y. to Elmer Conklin and Nettie Jones. Mrs. Jones lived in Caroga Lake, N.Y. for the past 13 years. Before that she lived in Westbrookville, N.Y. and previously in Stony Point, N.Y.
Mrs. Jones will be remembered for being a loving and devoted mother and wife, as well as a friend to all that knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip Jones Sr. of Caroga Lake, N.Y.; one daughter, Sherry Brennan of Glen Spey, N.Y.; two sons, Kevin of Troy, N.Y. and Phillip Jr. of Caroga Lake, N.Y.; three brothers, Clarence Conklin, Harry Conklin, Bob Conklin.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at A.W. Dutcher's Sons Funeral Home Inc., 18 Lincoln St., Haverstraw, N.Y. The funeral is Thursday, April 3, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at A.W. Dutcher's Sons FH Inc., 18 Lincoln St., Haverstraw, N.Y. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Stony Point, N.Y.

Betty Peters

Betty Peters, 78, formerly of Gloversville, passed away March 16.

She had been a resident of Charleston, N.C. for the past thirty years.

Born in Gloversville on May 15, 1925, a daughter of Clement and Elsie Nevich Gray. She was educated locally and was employed as a manager for the Gloversville branch of the American Red Cross.
She was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Betty was the widow of Frank Peters.

Her loving family includes her children, Frank Peters of Atlanta, Ga., and Edmond Peters of Charleston, S.C., and Maria Alana Lamb of Charlotte, N.C.; her sister, Katherine (Louis) Spagnola of Galway; her stepmother, Ann Gray of Johnstown; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of the Resurrection which will be offered Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, Hagaman. The Rev. Ronald Matulewicz, celebrant. There will be no calling hours. Interment is at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, Tenn. 38101. The arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Lonnie M. Duesler

Lonnie M. Duesler, 36, of St. Johnsville, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2006, from injuries he received in an ATV accident.

He was born August 27, 1969 at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, New York.

Lonnie was a 1988 graduate of Johnstown High School, and he was employed with National Grid in the service department.
He was an avid outdoorsman, his hobbies included hunting, fishing, taxidermy, working out, snowmobiling, and he had a great love for his dogs.

Survivors include his fiancé, Leisa Intonte and daughter Chantal Intonte; his father Ivan (Susan) Duesler of Ephratah; his mother Sandra (John Harrison) Duesler of Ft. Plain; Paternal grandparents Eileen (Sam) Wetterau, and Marion Duesler; maternal grandparents Arnold (Loretta) Kretser, and Melvin (Florence) Kretser; one brother James Smith; three sisters Tricia (Kirk) Horan, Sherree (Todd) Hoffman, and Amber Smith; three nephews Justin Horan, Adam Horan, and Michael Hoffman; one niece Grace Hoffman; and a very special friend Russell Bruce; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. from the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Friends and family may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Ephratah Rural Cemetery.

Arthur Ephraim Baker

Arthur Ephraim Baker, age 92, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 19, 2006, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville, New York.

Arthur was born June 30, 1913, in Flushing, N.Y., to Arthur E. Baker and Alice M. Campbell. He spent much of his childhood in Port Jefferson, Long Island. He was a graduate of Jamaica High School, attended Blair Academy and received a bachelor degree in business from Lehigh University in 1935.

He married his loving wife, Doris Lee Hamilton, on July 5, 1941, and together they raised five children in their house overlooking Port Jefferson harbor. In 1973, Arthur moved his family to Mayfield, New York, and fulfilled his lifelong dream by purchasing a marina on Sacandaga Lake. With the help of his wife and children, he ran Grandview Marina on Lakeside Drive until he retired and sold it to Bruce Miller of Johnstown in 1994. He continued to live out his days in the house on the lake, taking great pleasure every morning looking out to check the water level and to see what was going on out on the docks. He was passionate about wooden boats. He would often laugh and refer to fiberglass boats as "Clorox bottles."
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, "Dee Dee" Baker of Mayfield; two sons, Arthur E. "Skipper" Baker, and his wife, Cynthia of Rocky Point, New York, and Donald G. Baker of Palm Bay, Florida; three daughters, Linda Lee Weber and her husband, Jim, of Boca Raton, Florida, Mary Beth Jensen and her husband, Mark, of O'Fallon, Illinois, and Barbara Ann Ferraro and her husband, Glenn, of Glen, New York. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. from the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. The family will receive friends Sunday, 2-5 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery, Mayfield, New York. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY, 12078.

Louise M. Pavlik, 90, formerly of Johnstown, died Wednesday, April 19, in Johnson City, Tenn.

Born July 26, 1915, in Johnstown, the daughter of Henry and Pauline Masarik Billa, she attended Johnstown schools.

She worked in sales for Sears Roebuck in Pompano Beach, Florida, when she moved there in 1951.
Louise was of the Catholic faith.

She was married to the late Anthony Pavlik.

She is survived by 1 son, Anthony Richard Pavlik of Johnson City, TN; 3 granddaughters; 1 grandson; 2 brothers, Henry Billa of Gloversville and Robert Billa of Venice, FL; 2 sisters, Helen Riska of Helena, Montana, and Judy Voorhees of Fonda; nieces; nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Elizabeth Hall and Dolores Miller.

A graveside service will be on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnstown, with Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.
