John Libertucci

Aug. 9, 1996
John A. Libertucci, 64, of New Street, Amsterdam, died late Friday evening at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Weehawken, N.J., Feb. 14, 1932, the son of Michael and Victoria Corso Libertucci. He moved to Ravena as a child and was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and the Hudson Valley Technical Institute.

Mr. Libertucci was employed as a computer technician for 35 years for Unisys of Albany, retiring in 1992.

He moved to Amsterdam in 1963.

An Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church and a member of its Holy Name Society and the St. Anthony Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 209 and a member of the Trailblazers Square Dance Club.

He was married to the former Gilda Altimari April 16, 1955.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Michael John Libertucci of Glenville; two daughters, Diane L. Diamond of Amsterdam and Marigrace Ryan of East Hampton; a brother, Anthony Libertucci of Ravena; a sister, Michele Reilly of Ravena; five grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Calling hours are Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam. The Holy Name Society and St. Anthony Society will gather at 7:45 p.m. to conduct services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Carmel Memorial Fund.

Aurelio Fiorillo

Aug. 9, 1996
Aurelio W. (Bill) Fiorillo, 70, of Garden Street, Amsterdam, died Friday at Glens Falls Hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Amsterdam Aug. 9, 1926, the son of Vincenzo and Marianne LaPorta Fiorillo. He was a 1944 graduate of the Amsterdam school system and was a lifelong city resident.

Mr. Fiorillo was employed as a machinist at General Electric in Schenectady, retiring in 1986, and served as shop steward of AFL-CIO 301. He then worked for John D. Marcella's Appliances until the onset of his illness.

Mr. Fiorillo was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Marathon in the Asiatic and South Pacific Theater.

He was a member of Amsterdam VFW Post 55 and was past commander. He was a member of Posts 39 and 701 and a member of Brothers of the Brush; a past chairman of the Amsterdam Veterans Council; he served as liaison with the City of Amsterdam Veterans Council, serving on many committees for the memorial parks. He was active for many years organizing veterans parades; he served as co-chairman of the 175th anniversary celebration; he served on the recreational committee and was a coach in the Wee Men's Baseball League.

Mr. Fiorillo was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church and the former St. Joseph's Church; a member of the Holy Name Society and the St. Anthony's Society, having served two terms as president; he was a former member of the cemetery committee and served as chairman; he was co-chairman of many church spaghetti dinners; served as lector and Eucharistic minister of the church; he was a member of the Mount Carmel Senior and a member of the Amsterdam chapter of the Full Gospel Fellowship.

Mr. Fiorillo was an avid golfer and bowler with the St. John's and Sunday Night Couples leagues; and played basketball and softball in the Amsterdam Recreation League for many years. He was a member of the Mount Carmel and Armory Grill bocci leagues.

He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Fiorillo, in 1980, and a grandson, Vincent Michael Fiorillo, in 1993.

Survivors include his wife, the former Norma Carbone, whom he married June 13, 1948; three daughters, Patricia Hook of Atlanta, Kathleen Spraker of Perth and Marianne Fiorillo-Witko of Amsterdam; a son, Vincent Fiorillo Sr. of Amsterdam; two sisters, Louise Sisario and Mary Dlugas of Amsterdam; six grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services are 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the DeStefano Funeral Home, Route 5S, Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.

Interment with full military services will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Calling hours are Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church or to Response Ambulance Service, in care of the funeral home.

John Crocitti

Aug. 30, 1996
John Crocitti, 90, of Highland Gardens, Amsterdam, died late Friday evening at the Montgomery County Infirmary after a brief illness.

Born in Radicena, Province of Calabria, Italy, Oct. 8, 1905, a son of Domenico A. and Mary Montarelli Crocitti, he came to the U.S. in 1921 and lived in Amsterdam most of his life.

Mr. Crocitti was employed as a weaver for Mohasco Corp. and later as a clerk for the New York State Teachers Retirement System in Albany, retiring in 1975.

He was a trumpet player and played in the former Mohawk Mills Band and the Wyszomirski Post Legion Band at one time.

He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and served at one time as an usher.

He was the last surviving charter member and past president of the Columbian Social Club. From 1922 to 1927, he served with Company G. 105th Infantry of the National Guard.

His first wife, the former Louise Squillace, died in 1938. He married the former Helen Calvano in 1948.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary A. Stachnik of Amsterdam; two sons, Louise Crocitti of Rochester and John Crocitti of Miami; three brothers, Samuel Crocetti of Watertown, Mass., Dominic Crocetti of Louisville, Ky., and Joseph Crocetti of Amsterdam; five grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Calling hours are today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the Columbian Social Club will gather for prayers at 6:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Church or to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps in care of Rossi Funeral Home.

Anthony Milewski Sr.

Aug. 30, 1996
Anthony S. Milewski Sr., 85, of Kline Street, Amsterdam, died late Friday evening at St. Mary's Hospital.

Born in Mechanicville April 16, 1911, a son of Stanley and Alice Milewski, he moved to Amsterdam 78 years ago and lived here since.

He was employed by the former Collette Manufacturing Co., Sanford Carpet Mills and the American Locomotive Co. in Schenectady. He most recently worked for General Electric in Schenectady for 10 years as a pipe fitter, retiring in 1976.

An avid bowler, he was a member of several Amsterdam leagues.

He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and a former member of the Community Seniors.

Survivors include his wife, the former Philomena Costanza, whom he married Dec. 2, 1939; a son, Anthony S. Milewski Jr. of Amsterdam; a daughter, Marie Carter of Corvallis, Ore.; a brother, Joseph Smith of Plymouth, Mich; a sister, Freida Zak of Southfield, Mich.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Calling hours are Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Memorial Fund.

Michael Morrone

Aug. 30, 1996
Michael P. Morrone, 79, of Mary Street, Tribes Hill, died late Friday evening at the Samuel Stratton Veterans Medical Center in Albany after a brief illness.

Born in Amsterdam Jan. 21, 1917, the son of Paul and Maria Sista DiCaprio Morrone, he was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.

Mr. Morrone was employed for 48 years by Santos Construction Co., retiring in 1980.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and served with the Medical Corps in Africa and Italy.

He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.

Survivors include his long-time companion, Antoinette Cantiello of Amsterdam; a sister, Carmella Harrison of Amsterdam; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Memorial Fund or the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Arrangements are by the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.

Florence Sise

September 1, 1996
Florence C. Sise, 98, formerly of 23 McClellan Ave., Amsterdam, died Sunday at Mount Loretto Nursing Home, where she had resided since May of 1990.

Born Oct. 26, 1897 in Menands, she was the daughter of Patrick and Catherine Dougherty Hayes.

Mrs. Sise was educated in the Albany school system and was a 1916 graduate of Albany High School.

She was employed as a secretary at the New York State Capitol in Albany and later for the Trunk Line, a railroad shipping cooperative. From 1952 to 1967, she was employed by the Department of the Navy at the Naval Correspondence School in Scotia.

Mrs. Sise was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Amsterdam, and a member of its Rosary Society.

Survivors include one son, Robert J. Sise of Amsterdam; eight grandsons, Michael J., John R., Thomas E., Richard E., William P., Timothy E., Joseph M., and Bernard F. Sise; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sise was predeceased by one grandson, Robert J. Sise Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
