Alice Dadson

August 30, 1996
Mrs. Alice R. Dadson, 92, of Palm Harbor, Fla., died Friday at Helen Ellis Hospital in Tarpon Springs, Fla.

Born in Chicago, Mrs. Dadson lived in Broadalbin before moving to Florida in 1969.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Broadalbin.

Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline E. Kitler of Palm Harbor and Patricia L. Lang of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Josephine Mather of Middletown, R.I., Norma Maufole of Summerville, S.C., and Carole Duggan of Tenafly, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday in Florida.

Burial will be in Troy.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meal on Wheels of Palm Harbor.

Arrangements are by the Moss-Feaster Funeral Home, Dunedin, Fla.

Robert Frydel

September 2, 1996
Robert J. Frydel, 78, of South Nine Mile Road, Alleghany, and formerly of Debra Lane, Hagaman, died Monday afternoon at Olean General Hospital following a short illness.

Born March 25, 1918 in Amsterdam, he was the son of John and Mary Gucz Frydel. He was a graduate of St. Stanislaus School and a 1935 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School.

He completed training courses at the U.S. Department of Labor OSHA Training Institute in Des Plaines, Ill. He also attended the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa, State University of New York at Albany, the Albany Business College and numerous New York State Department of Labor Training Courses.

During World War II, Mr. Frydel served in the Army and was a graduate of the Armored Force School at Fort Knox, Kentucky and was a instructor of Tank Crew Basic Maintenance - 8th Armored Division. He was an Armed Forces certified tank driver, an anti-tank gunner and also served in the Military Police. He served overseas under Gen. George S. Patton in the North African and Sicilian Campaigns and under Gen. Mark Clark in the Italian Campaign, all during the 1943-45 period. At the conclusion of the war, he was stationed in Bosnia (Yugoslavia). He was awarded six battle stars for the Battle of Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Po Valley, and North Appenines. He was also awarded the African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed by Mohawk Carpet Mills until 1964 as senior electrician at the Shuttleworth Division. Later, he was a factory inspector and Associate Factory Inspector of the Utica District of Industrial Safety Service, New York State Department of Labor.

In 1977, he was appointed senior safety and health consultant in OSHA Consultative Services Bureau of the combined Albany-Utica District of the NYS Department of Labor Division of Safety and Health before retiring in 1982.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He was past secretary of the Town of Perth Planning and Zoning Commission, member of the Executive Committee of the Fulton County Republican Committees, past president of the Perth Republican Club, member and past adjutant and trustee of Amsterdam VFW Post 55, member of the Organizing Committee and charter member of the Polish-American Veterans, served on the Amsterdam Veterans Council, member of the Knights of Columbus Amsterdam Council 209, life member of the Fifth Army Association, Public Employees Federation Retirees and served on Assemblyman Glen Harris Advisory Committee.

He was married to the former Eleanore Piurek on April 27, 1947. She died Aug. 8, 1994.

Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Wier of Olean, Cattaraugus County; one grandson, Michael J. Wier, of Olean, one sister, Dorothy Markowicz of Amsterdam; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus School.

Grayce Devendorf

September 5, 1996
Grayce Knack Devendorf, 105, formerly of Locust Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday morning at the Wells House Nursing Home in Johnstown.

Born Sept. 16, 1890 in St. Johnsville, she was the daughter of E.J. and Louise Hugo Knack. She resided there until moving to Cleveland, Ohio, where she resided for 47 years, moving to Amsterdam in the mid-1960s.

Mrs. Devendorf was at one time employed at the piano factory in St. Johnsville, and later was employed as the secretary of the mayor of the City of Cleveland.

Mrs. Devendorf was a Christian Scientist.

She was a direct descendent of Victor Hugo, the French author.

She was married to John Devendorf. He died in 1989.

Mrs. Devendorf is survived by two nephews, Charles Devendorf and Henry Devendorf, both of Amsterdam; two grand-nephews, David and Brian Devendorf, both of Amsterdam; two grand-nieces, Linda Toore of Tallahassee, Fla., and Rachel Osborn of Vienna, Va.; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Russell Camp officiating. Interment will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery.

A calling hour will begin at noon at the funeral home.

Angela Morrone

September 5, 1996
Mrs. Angela Morrone, 62, of 104 Minaville St., Amsterdam, died Thursday afternoon at Albany Medical Center.

Born April 14, 1934 in Monte S. Giovanni Campano, Province of Frosinone, Italy, she was the daughter of Angelo and Teresa Reali Santaroni.

She moved to Amsterdam in 1953 where she has since lived.

She worked for a number of years for the former Reali Grocery and Gas Station at 104 Minaville St., Amsterdam, and since 1974, she was employed for the Meals for the Elderly in Amsterdam where she was a cook until her death.

Mrs. Morrone was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, and its Christian Women Society. She also worked the bingo games at Mount Carmel Church, and was a member of the Mount Carmel Women's Bocce Club. She was also a volunteer for the Wellness Institute at St. Mary's Hospital.

Her husband, John D. Morrone, whom she married June 27, 1959, died March 27, 1979.

Mrs. Morrone is survived by a daughter, Lisa VanDusen of Seneca Falls; and two brothers, Giovanni Santaroni and Umberto Santaroni, both of Italy; a sister, Lidia Buttarazzi of Italy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be conduced at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Burial will take place in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Amsterdam.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church or to the Wellness Institute of St. Mary's Hospital.

Morris Safford

September 5, 1996
Morris Safford Sr., 68, of Main Street, Guilderland Center, died Thursday at home.

Born in Gloversville, he moved to Schenectady in 1940 and then to Guilderland Center in 1951.

Mr. Safford was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Safford was a machinist at General Electric Co. in Schenectady for 42 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the Guilderland Fire Department and the former president and treasurer of the Automobilist of the Upper Hudson Valley. He was also treasurer of the local chapter of the Model T Club of America and a member of the Hupmobile Club.

Mr. Safford is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Safford; a daughter, Emma VanAlstyne of Guilderland Center; a son, Morris Safford Jr. of East Berne; a sister, Ida Retersdorf of Gloversville; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Altamont Reformed Church, Lincoln Avenue. Burial will take place in Schenectady Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Hospice or the American Cancer Society, both in Albany.

Arrangements are by the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont.

Dennis Carron

September 7, 1996
Dennis Carron, 35, of Rockton Street, Amsterdam, died Saturday at his home.

Born Feb. 23, 1961 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Maurice and Edie Parslow Carron. He attended local schools.

Mr. Carron was employed as a construction worker locally, and for the past several months, in the maintenance department at the Highland Gardens Apartments in Amsterdam.

He was of the Lutheran Faith.

Survivors, including his parents, are a sister, Michele Jurcsak of Amsterdam; two nephews, one niece, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Robert E. Doxey, pastor of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill.

A calling period will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 24 Pine St., or to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 11, Amsterdam.

Anna Kosiba

September 8, 1996
Anna Kosiba, 92, formerly of Gardinier Street, Amsterdam, died late Sunday evening at St. Mary's Hospital.

Born Aug. 1, 1904 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Anthony and Cecilia Kosiba Czech. She attended St. Stanislaus Parochial School. She was employed for many years by the former Mohawk Carpet Mills and later at the former Bennett Nursing Home and the Lamp Rest Home in Amsterdam as a housekeeper, retiring many years ago due to disability.

Mrs. Kosiba was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Rose Gagliardi, and a son, John Gagliardi.

Survivors include a daughter, Ceil Merendo of Amsterdam; a sister, Mary Sikorski of Amsterdam; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church. Interment is in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Loretto Nursing Chapel Fund or to St. Stanislaus Church.
