David Musgrave
July 12, 1996
David O. Musgrave, 48, of Slater Street, Amsterdam, died Friday morning at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Gloversville Jan. 7, 1948, he was educated in Johnstown schools and graduated from Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
For the past eight years he was employed as a keyboard specialist for the state Office of General Services at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.
A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Musgrave served with the U.S. Army and Navy and was discharged from the Air Force. At one time he was a member of the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Borst Musgrave, whom he married Jan. 2, 1972; two daughters, Heather M. and Jessica A. Musgrave, both of Amsterdam; two brothers, Richard Morey of Wells and Robert Morey of Florida; two step-brothers, Mark Musgrave of Johnstown and Scott Musgrave of North Carolina; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services are Monday at 9 a.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Robert Doxey officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery.
Calling hours are Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Morrison
July 11, 1996
James Morrison, 63, of 942 State Route 29A, Gloversville, died Thursday morning at Bringhams Women's Hospital in Boston after a long illness.
He was born Dec. 18, 1932, in Gloversville, the son of Burton E. and Olive Knapp Morrison and was a lifelong Gloversville resident.
He was educated in Mayfield and Gloversville schools and served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Morrison was employed at the Gloversville Public Works Department for a total of 31 years, retiring from there as general foreman in 1989. He then worked at Curtin-Hebert Co. Inc. until becoming disabled in 1992.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also coached American Legion baseball for more than 10 years.
He was of the Methodist faith.
On Sept. 19, 1953, he married Thelma M. Burgess.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of Gloversville, include three sons, James F., Douglas C. and Brian L. Morrison, all of Gloversville; two daughters, Cathy L. Rubscha of Norfolk, Va., and Sharon M. Oberg of Gloversville; his mother, Olive Morrison of Gloversville; two brothers, Arthur F. Morrison and Kenneth Morrison, both of Gloversville; two sisters, Betty Sweet of Gloversville and John McDougall of Cohoes; eight grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Morrison, and a sister, Mildred Carter.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Mayfield Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Harold Conover
July 11, 1996
Harold D. Conover, 88, died Thursday at the Samuel S. Stratton Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albany.
He was born Jan. 4, 1908, in Charleston, the son of Charles A. and Emma Holmes Conover.
Mr. Conover served in the Navy as a radio man 3rd Class in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II.
He was employed as a production manager at the Hilts Willard Glove Company in Gloversville. Mr. Conover played trumpet in the Nick Rotonde Band, which played for many occasions in the Gloversville and Johnstown areas.
He enjoyed fishing and operating ham radios. Mr. Conover was a member of VFW Post 2077 in Gloversville.
His first wife, Norma Wilson, died Jan. 24, 1953. He married Doris E. Bradt Aug. 15, 1949, in Torrington, Conn.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years; three daughters, Shirley L. Makarowski of Johnstown, Ethel E. Cummings of Hagerstown, Md., and Claudia C. Gilmore of Gloversville; two sons, Robert R. Conover of Long Lake and Daniel S. Conover of Gloversville; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Raymond Conover, and two sisters, Lela Conover and Esther Sleezer.
Funeral services are Monday at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 417 Steele Ave. Ext.., Gloversville, with President Lawrence Knudsen officiating.
Burial will be in Schenectady Memorial Park, Schenectady.
Calling hours are Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Brewer Funeral Home Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.
Leonard Simonds
July 12, 1996
Leonard Simonds, 84, of Kingsboro Towers, Gloversville, died Friday morning at home after a long illness.
He was born May 18, 1912, in Ephratah, the son of Joseph and Mary Hayes Simonds and lived in the Johnstown area most of his life.
For 18 years Mr. Simonds was employed at the former Peters Oil Company as a truck driver and maintenance worker. He later worked at Potters Glove Company, Karg Brothers and Burton Leather Company, all of Johnstown.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Simonds was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church in Gloversville, the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Club, the Johnstown Moose Lodge and the Ephratah Rod and Gun Club.
On Jan. 1, 1935, he married Emma J. Ketchum.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of Gloversville, include a son, Leonard V. Simonds of Tulsa, Okla.; four brothers, Ivan Simonds of Mayfield, Arthur and David Simonds of Johnstown and Joseph Simonds of St. Johnsville; two sisters, Gladys Bentley and Ethel Larrabee of Johnstown; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Grace Avery
July 11, 1996
Grace M. Avery, 84, of 61 Montgomery St., Gloversville, died Thursday evening at the Fulton County Infirmary after a long illness.
She was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Gloversville, the daughter of Harry and Evelyn Roosevelt Hopkins and lived in Gloversville all her life.
She was educated in Gloversville schools.
Mrs. Avery worked at several glove shops in the area, then at the office of Park Terrace School for eight years, and at the Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Gloversville for four years, retiring in November.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gloversville.
In 1928, she married Charles Avery. He died in 1962.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris J. Muscato of Gloversville and Joan L. Norelli of Ridgewood, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a nephew and several cousins.
Funeral services are 9 a.m. Monday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
Calling hours are Sunday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Leo Jurusik
July 13, 1996
Leo Jurusik, 87, formerly of 22 Henrietta Blvd., Amsterdam, and a resident of the Park Hill Adult Home, Amsterdam, died Saturday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was born Sept. 15, 1908, in Riders Corners, the son of Charles and Teoffila Mycek Jurusik.
Mr. Jurusik moved to Amsterdam in the 1920s where he had since lived. He was employed as a service and parts department manager for the J.B. Auto Car Co. in Amsterdam for 20 years until retiring in 1973.
He was a member and past president of the Amsterdam Fish and game Club and attended St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Jurusik was married Sept. 9, 1933, to Gladys Hoffman. She died April 18, 1990.
He is survived by a niece, Carol Kowalski of Hagaman; a nephew, Richard Drenzek of Amsterdam; and a sister-in-law, Bessie Bojarski of Hagaman.
Funeral services are today at 8 p.m. at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. James Gulley officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
