Barbara Smith
November 14, 1996
Barbara A. "Bobby" Smith, 65, of South Wescott Road, Rotterdam, died Thursday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a long illness.
Born Oct. 22, 1931 in Ticonderoga, she was the daughter of Harley and Clara Dornburg Belfance, she moved to Rotterdam at 9 years of age and attended and graduated from Draper High School.
Mrs. Smith attended St. Madeleine Sophie Church in Guilderland and most recently a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Rotterdam.
She was a housewife and homemaker.
She married Harry R. Smith on Nov. 16, 1957.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Mark J. Smith of Esperance, a daughter, Teri Lockwood of Howes Cave and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike, Guilderland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Fort Avenue, Rotterdam. Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Guilderland chapel of the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home.

Leon Bowen
November 12, 1996
Leon R. Bowen, 69, of Montgomery Street, Canajoharie, died Tuesday at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Merry Hill, N.C., Mr. Bowen was valedictorian of the Class of 1945 at Colerain High School in North Carolina.
From 1945 to 1968, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps.
During his military career, he served during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Later Mr. Bowen was a supervisor for Nabisco Brand Foods, retiring in 1982.
He married Barbara Geddes Bower on Oct. 16, 1953.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Deborah Bowen of Johnstown; a son, James Brett Bowen of Seattle; two sisters, Peggie Walker of North Carolina and Belle Castello of Georgia; and five grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
Cremation will be in Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dialysis Unit at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Arrangements are by the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Johnstown.
Halsey Eldredge
A service will be conducted at noon Wednesday for Halsey A. Eldredge at the Lappeus Funeral Home, 32 Park St.

Charles Meyers
November 14, 1996
Charles W. Meyers, 88, of Putman Road, Sprakers, died Thursday evening at Albany Medical Center Hospital after being stricken at home.
He was born Jan. 26, 1908, in Palisades Park, N.J., the son of William and Agnes Gallagher Meyers. He was educated in Paramus, N.J.
Mr. Meyers was a printer and a foreman at the New York Law Journal in New York City all his working life before retiring. He was also a driver for the South Orangetown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a member of the Pressman's Union of New York City.
He lived in Bergenfield, N.J., and Tappan until moving to Sprakers six years ago.
His first wife, Alberta Lamme Meyers, died July 19, 1955. He married Dorathea L. Marxhausen April 16, 1957, in Demerest, N.J. She died Dec. 18, 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Louis A. Williams of Sprakers; a son, William C. Meyers of Paramus, N.J.; a step-son, Alfred Hess of Demerest, N.J.; a step-daughter, Barbara Griepenburg of Old Tappan, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are Monday at 1 p.m. at the Tappan Reformed Church Cemetery in Tappan.

Henry T. Verra
November 20, 1996
Henry "Hank" T. Verra, 44, of Glenville Street, Rotterdam, died Wednesday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady from injuries suffered from a beating on Nov. 14.
Born in Schenectady, Mr. Verra was a graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School.
He was co-owner of the former Shamus Tavern and the former Red Lion Restaurant and Lounge.
Mr. Verra was a self-employed travel agent for Casino Flings.
He was married to Denise "Dee-Dee" Towns Verra.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his parents, John M. and Nadine Potter Verra of Rotterdam; three brothers, Michael J. Verra off Westbury, Jeffrey A. Verra of Rotterdam and Ronald D. Verra of Niskayuna; and three sisters, Diana M. Seymour of Hillsdale, N.J., Maureen A. Vera of Rotterdam and Marilyn Therrien of Scotia.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., and at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Cyril's Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Henry Young
November 20, 1996
Henry Young, 57, formerly of Charles Street, Amsterdam, died Wednesday at Willowood Nursing Home in North Adams, Mass., after a long illness.
Born Oct. 25, 1939 in Johnstown, he was the son of Harold B. and Edna Schubert Young. He was educated in Johnstown schools.
He was employed as a short order cook at the Auriesville Shrine until retiring due to illness.
At one time, he served with the Air Force.
He attended Christ Lutheran Church in Johnstown.
He married Lita Carpenter Young on Oct. 31, 1965.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Nancy Kazala and Kathy Young, both of Amsterdam; three sons, Henry Young Jr. of Gloversville and Floyd and Harold Young, both of Amsterdam; a sister, Barbara Cooper of Florida; a brother, Floyd Young of Connecticut; nine grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Wayne D. Morlitz officiating.
Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Edward Kaczor
November 21, 1996
Edward J. Kaczor, 77, of Fairmount Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday at the Samuel Stratton Veteran's Medical Center in Albany after a long illness.
Born Dec. 28, 1918 in Amsterdam, he was a son of Julian and Mary Frydlo Kaczor, he was a lifelong resident and attended local schools. Mr. Kaczor was an auto mechanic for many years and was the co-owner of the former A-B-C Motors in Amsterdam. He was later employed for Millbrook Bakeries in Albany before retiring in 1982.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in the Philippines. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star before being discharged in 1945.
Mr. Kaczor was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
His wife, the former Josephine Rossi, died Jan. 31, 1985.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Kaczor of Amsterdam; four daughters, Elizabeth Spiewak of Pensacola, Fla.; Patricia Mather of Huntsville, Ala.; Rosanne Rusnica of Pattersonville and Judy Kaczor of Buffalo; two brothers, Leonard Kaczor and Stanley Kaczor, both of Amsterdam; three sisters, Emily Casabonne and Kate Delliveneri of Mayfield, and Josephine Caldaroni of Gloversville; and seven grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church, 156 E. Main St., Amsterdam. Interment is in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.

Ophelia Grybos
November 19, 1996
Mrs. Ophelia Grybos, 82, of McCleary Avenue, Amsterdam, died Tuesday evening at home after a long illness.
Born May 7, 1914 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Rosiorowski Mruczek. She was educated locally and was a lifelong city resident.
She was a glovemaker and machinist at Amsterdam Glove Co. for many years before retiring in 1983.
She was a member of the former St. Joseph's Church and also of St. Stanislaus Church.
She married Stanley W. Grybos Sr. on Sept. 7, 1935. He died Aug. 2, 1954.
Mrs. Grybos was pre-deceased by a son, Robert S. Grybos Sr., on Nov. 21, 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna DePalma of Amsterdam; two sons, Lawrence M. Grybos of Plattsburgh and Stanley W. Grybos Jr. of Amsterdam; a sister, Tessie Klapmeyer of Minaville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
