Pearl Van Nostrand
December 9, 1996
Mrs. Pearl Van Nostrand, 83, of Riceville Road, Mayfield, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.
Born and educated in Mayfield, Mrs. Van Nostrand was a lifelong area resident.
She was a glovemaker for several area glove companies for more than 20 years, retiring from the Rubin Glove Co.
Mrs. Van Nostrand was a former member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Club.
She was the widow of Donald Zimmerman, John Lake and Kenneth Van Nostrand.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin Van Nostrand of Albany and Gary Van Nostrand of Galway; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. Spring burial will be in Union Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 1 p.m. today until the services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Mildred Grayson
December 10, 1996
Mildred D. Grayson, 71, of Deal Place, Amsterdam, died Tuesday afternoon at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam, March 8, 1925, she was a daughter of Stanley and Henrietta Pitera Dado and resided here all of her life.
Mrs. Grayson was employed as an administrative assistant to the late former assemblyman Donald Campbell at the New York State Legislative Offices in Albany.
She was a member of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and received her 1000 Hour Pin recently for her volunteer work at the hospital.
She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church.
She married Oswald K. Grayson on Nov. 25, 1944.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Sharon Opiela of Scotia; one sister, Janet Nelson of Wisconsin Rapids, two grandchildren, Scott and Sarah Opiela; and nieces and nephews also survive.
Services are Friday at 11 a.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place. Interment is in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA or to the Oriental Temple Hospital Fund.
David Armlin
December 10, 1996
David M. Armlin, 29, of Dahlene Street, Nelliston, died Tuesday in the Town of Broome.
Born in Cobleskill, Mr. Armlin was an apartment manager for Martin Hill of Central Bridge.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Yandon Armlin; a son, James Armlin of Nelliston; his mother, Patricia Yung Armlin Hitchcock of Jefferson; his father, Thomas Armlin of Middleburgh; four sisters, Maria Del Buono of Riverhead, Janice Merwin of Manorkill, Bobbi-Jo Johnson of Cairo and Roberta Van Valkenburgh of Prattsville; his maternal grandmother, Beatrice Yung of Middleburgh; and his paternal grandparents Floyd and Mary Armlin of Middleburgh and Louise Burdick of Hobart.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 63 River St., Middleburgh. Burial will be in Keyserkill Cemetery in Middleburgh.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Annabel Richter
December 10, 1996
Mrs. Annabel Richter, 80, of South Shore Road, Hadley, died Tuesday at the Glendale Nursing Home, Glenville, after a long illness.
Born in Malone, Mrs. Richter was a secretary for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady many years ago. Later for more than 40 years, she and her husband were proprietors of Richter's Tavern on South Shore Road before retiring in 1980.
She was a communicant of St. Francis Roman Catholic Church.
Her husband, Arthur Richter, died in 1989.
Survivors include a son, arthur "Skip" Richter Jr., of Hadley; a brother, Jim Johnson of San Francisco; two sisters, Julie Kress and Elizabeth Patten, both of Malone; and a grandson.
A service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday at Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., Northville. Burial will be in Batchellerville Cemetery, Edinburg.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund or Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders.
Lawrence Fowler

Lawrence Fowler, of 216 Hickory Hill Road, Nelliston, died Wednesday at his home.

Joseph Spagnolo
December 13, 1996
Joseph S. Spagnolo, 76, of Lake Road, Galway, died Friday morning at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa after a long illness.
Born in Galway Feb. 10, 1920, he was the son of Serafino and Lily Campochiro Spagnolo. He moved to Amsterdam as a child and was educated here. He lived here most of his life before returning to Galway several years ago.
He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
Survivors include a sister, Margaret Santorelli of Galway and Port Richie, Fla.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are Monday at 11 a.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
Interment is in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling hours will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

John Knox Sr.
December 13, 1996
John B. Knox Sr., 78, of Route 8, Piseco, died Friday morning at home after being stricken.
He was born July 22, 1918, in Gloversville, the son of James and Eleanor Williams Knox. He attended school in Gloversville.
He was an instructor of pilots in the Air Force during World War II. He was the retired president of Knox Gelatin of Johnstown and had a lifelong interest in conservation and aviation.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Baez Knox; two sons, John B. Knox Jr. of Caroga Lake and James Knox of Piseco; four daughters, Anna Halleck of California, Roseanne Beaudin of Connecticut, Kimberly Knox of Colorado and Amy Larsen of Middletown; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Piseco Community Hall with the Rev. Ted Ruggles officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be private.
Memorial contribution may be made to the Piseco Volunteer Ambulance Corps or the Lake Pleasant Methodist Church.
Arrangements are by the Northville Funeral Home.
Dr. Joseph Rupsis
December 11, 1996
Joseph Michael Rupsis, M.D., 78, died Wednesday at the V.A. Medical Center in Canandaigua after a long illness.
He was born in Amsterdam July 9, 1918, the son of John and Vincenta Rabaciauskas Rupsis.
He was a 1939 graduate of the University of Rochester and a 1943 graduate of Albany Medical College.
He was a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, serving with the occupational forces in Germany from 1944 to 1947. Upon discharge, he established a private practice in Amsterdam, specializing in psychiatry. He later joined the psychiatric staff at the V.A. Medical Center in Canandaigua, where he worked for several years.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Lane, and his former wife, Milfred Hubbard Rupsis, both of Honeoye Falls; three grandchildren; nieces, a nephew and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Dr. Jon M. Rupsis, in 1990.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church, Canandaigua.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua.
