Charles Casso Sr.

December 18, 1996
Charles A. Casso Sr., 84, of Trinity Place, a prisoner of war during World War II, died Wednesday at the home of his daughter on Windswept Drive in Amsterdam after a short illness.

Born in Rotterdam Junction on June 2, 1912, he was a son of Vito and Mary Grippi Casso. He was educated in Rotterdam Junction, and worked for the Penn Central Railroad in Amsterdam for more than 35 years, retiring in 1975 as a foreman.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. Mr. Casso was a prisoner of war in the Eggenfelden Camp in Germany after he was captured by the Germans in Nancy, France.

Mr. Casso was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.

His wife, the former Nancy Alessi Casso, died March 18,1992.

A son, Richard A. Semprivivo, died Dec. 24, 1985.

Survivors include three sons, Charles A. Casso Jr. of Amsterdam, and Joseph and Rocco Semprivivo, both of Amsterdam; two daughters, Cynthia Chiachiaretta of Schenectady and Ginny Bottisti of Amsterdam; four brothers, Anthony, John and Gerald Casso, all of Schenectady, and Joseph Casso of Alexandria, Va.; six sisters, Phyliss Ferguson and Rose Lombardi, both of Hudson, Fla., Katherine Morrell, Dorothy Bardascini and Mildred Alessi, all of Amsterdam, and Mary Lawrence of New Jersey; and 13 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, and at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Calling hours will be from 5 this afternoon until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Lettie Hunt

December 18, 1996
Mrs. Lettie Fuller Hunt, 88, of Keyes Avenue, Schenectady, died Wednesday at the Atlantic Shores Nursing Home in Melbourne, Fla.

Born in Esperance, Mrs. Hunt moved to Schenectady in 1936 and to Florida in July. She was a graduate of Cobleskill High School and the Amsterdam City Hospital School of Nursing with a degree in registered nursing.

She was a registered nurse at Ellis Hospital for 20 years and later at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna for 20 years, retiring in 1971.

Her husband George M. Hunt, died April 19.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Hunt Taylor of Melbourne, a son, Charles Hunt of Chiefland, Fla.; a sister, Bessie Dane of Esperance; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Grove Cemetery, Quaker Street.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Institute for Cancer Research, in Washington, D.C. 20069-2012.

Arrangements are by the White-VanBuren Funeral Home, Delanson.

Mildred Myers

December 18, 1996
Mrs. Mildred Myers, 84, formerly of the Amsterdam High Rise, died Wednesday at Montgomery Meadows.

Born Oct. 29, 1912 in Amsterdam she was the daughter of Michael and Caroline Abucewicz Sakadolski. Educated in Amsterdam, Mrs. Myers was a lifelong area resident.

She worked for the Bigelow-Sandord Carpet Mills and later at the Amsterdam Glove Company for several years, retiring in 1988.

Mrs. Myers was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church.

Her husband, Oscar Myers,whom she married in 1947,died July 8,1988.

Survivors include two sons, Walter Dlugolecki of Rensselaer and Thomas Myers of Gloversville; a daughter, Donna Brunt of Amsterdam; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; two nieces and cousins.

Services will be held at 8:15a.m. Friday at the Betz Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., and at 9 a.m. at St. John's Roman Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Casimir's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery Meadows Auxiliary, Sandy Drive, or the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Kevin Porath

Kevin Porath, 35, of Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after being stricken.
Arrangements, by the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, are incomplete.

Jack Streun

December 17, 1996
Mr. Jack R. Streun, 72, of County Highway 107, West Galway, died Tuesday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Streun was born June 11, 1924 in Amsterdam, the son of Fred and Florence Rotbell Streun. He was a graduate of the Class of 1943 at the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and was a lifelong resident of the Amsterdam area.

Mr. Streun was employed as a machinist with the former Mohawk Carpet Mills and taught in the Manpower training program. He was then self employed as a carpenter until his retirement.

He had been a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his sister, Betty S. Varsoke of Amsterdam and an aunt, Gladys Schwartz also of Amsterdam.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Johnson-Lindsay Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Robert E. Doxey officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the Hagaman Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corp.

Patricia Anne Bouchard

December 17, 1996
Patricia Anne Bouchard, 51, of Briarwood Drive, Saratoga Springs, died Tuesday at her home.

Born April 8, 1945 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Winnie Snopkowski Boryszewski and resided in Saratoga Springs since 1971.

A 1963 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School in Amsterdam, she attended Hudson Valley Community College, Schenectady County Community College, Adirondack Community College, and received her bachelor of arts degree from the state University of New York at Albany in 1984. She graduated from Rockefeller College in 1993 with a master's degree in public administration. Shewas employed for the New York State Education Department for 33 years until retiring this past March. An active member of the Church of St. Peter, she was a lector, eucharistic minister; served on the parish council as a member and past secretary, worked with the RCIA program and was former director of the parents preparation program for infant baptism for several years for the parish. She assisted with the introduction of quality management in the New York State government and the State Education Department. She was one of only three certified state Master Trainers of Quality Processes, was a member of Court McLaughlin No. 422 Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Ephrem J. Bouchard, whom she married Aug. 27, 1966; one daughter, Michelle L. McMahon and one granddaughter, Alexis Lauren McMahon, both of Saratoga Springs; one sister, RoseMary DiBlasi of Amsterdam; several aunts, uncles, five nieces and two grand-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 12866.

Michael Dean

December 17, 1996
Michael Dean, 34, of the Town of Stanfordville, died Tuesday at Westchester Medical Center.

Born in Freeport, Long Island on Aug. 8, 1962, he was the son of James A. Dean and Eleanore Kelly.

A resident of Stanfordville since 1991, he was formerly a resident of Poughkeepsie.

He worked for the New York Power Authority at Indian Point No. 3, in Buchanan, N.Y.

Mr. Dean was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1980 to 1986. During his military service he served on the USS South Carolina CGN 37. He was a second class machinist mate.

Mr. Dean graduated from Northville Central School.

He married Cynthia M. Furman in 1982.

Survivors, including his wife, are is father, James A. Dean of Edinburg; one brother, James H. Dean of Greenwich, CT; two sisters, Judith Ann Barrett of Weston, West Virginia; and Pamela LaMattina of Willington, CT.; several nieces, nephews, one uncle, one aunt and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:30 p.m. during calling hours, at the Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park.

Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours are Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rosemarie Otrube

Mrs. Rosemarie Otrube, 58 of Prindle Avenue, Johnstown, died Friday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after being stricken at home.
Mrs. Otrube was born and educated in Johnstown.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Otrube, whom she married May 17, 1958; two sons, Stephen Otrube of Sacramento, Calif., and James Otrube of Sioux Falls, S.D., two daughters, Arlene Wickierak of Durham, N.C., and Theresa Brandt of Johnstown; three sisters, Otilia Knuffke and Irene Manno, both of Johnstown, and Marilyn Testerman of Belarie, Md., a brother, John Hladik of Johnstown, and a granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Church. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
