Frank Altieri
October 28, 1996
Frank Altieri, 92, of Wilkes Avenue, Amsterdam, died Monday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Born May 4, 1904 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Anthony and Ann Conti Altieri and was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Altieri was first employed as a foreman in the paint shop of the Mohawk Carpet Mills, and then owned and operated the former Altieri's Restaurant on Bridge Street. He later was as a plumber by the Plumber and Steamfitters Union Local No. 105 of Schenectady. He retired in 1966.
Mr. Altieri was a member of the South Side Bocce Club and the Inman Senior Citizens.
He was a communicant of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
He married Ann Denise on June 5, 1927. She died Jan. 22, 1979.
Survivors include a son, Norman F. Altieri of Amsterdam; a daughter, Norine A. Altieri of Amsterdam; two brothers, Herman Altieri of Amsterdam and Richard Altieri of Sun City Center, Fla.; four sisters, Alice Chiricko and Amelia Percassi, both of Amsterdam, Josephine Sievert of Delmar and Alvina Sampone of Chula Vista, Calif.; two grandchildren, Kathleen Flanigan of Waynesboro, Pa. and David Altieri of Amsterdam; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Church. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA or the Amsterdam YMCA, in care of the funeral home.
Arrangements are by the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Carlo Polidori
October 28, 1996
Carlo J. Polidori, 72, of 11 Washington St., St. Johnsville, died Monday at Faxon Hospital in Utica.
Born May 14, 1924 in St. Johnsville, he was the son of Geino and Teresa Carestia Polidori. He was educated in St. Johnsville schools and lived most of his life in the St. Johnsville area.
Mr. Polidori was a World War II veteran, enlisting in the U.S. Navy on Sept. 29, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Jan. 14, 1946. While serving his country, he received the American Theater Ribbon, the Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, with one star.
Mr. Polidori started in law enforcement in St. Johnsville in 1952. He retired from the St. Johnsville Police Department in 1985 as chief of police.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member of Fort Plain Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fort Plain American Legion.
He married Margaret Cunningham on Feb. 2, 1947.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Larry Polidori of Whitehall, Mich., Joseph and Nino Polidori of St. Johnsville; two sisters, Geri George of Little Falls and Mary Jane Lamb of Little Falls; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti, pastor of St. Patrick's Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Members of the Fort Plain V.F.W. are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Wednesday for services. Members of the Fort Plain American Legion are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday for services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.
Donald Hayes
October 28, 1996
Donald C. Hayes, 81, a resident of the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, died Monday at Little Falls Hospital.
Born Oct. 14, 1915 in Cortland, he was the son of Lester Melvin and Agnes Clawson Hayes. He was educated in New Hartford schools and also attended Oneonta State College. Mr. Hayes lived most of his life in the St. Johnsville area.
Mr. Hayes was a caseworker for Montgomery County Department of Social Services in Fonda for 23 years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and also a 50-year member of St. Johnsville Masonic Lodge, F&AM No. 611.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Cristman of Amsterdam and Katherine Campione of St. Johnsville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Hayes and a sister, Elanor Coleman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Dennis Fonkert, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Johnsville cemetery.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Members of St. Johnsville Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. are asked to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home for services.
Phyllis Mazdon
October 26, 1996
Miss Phyllis M. Mazdon, 86, formerly of Gloversville, died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a short illness.
Born in Cardiff, Wales, Miss Mazdon was a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London and was a concert pianist. After World War II, she came to this country and resided in Port Chester. She graduated from New York University with a master's degree in education.
Miss Mazdon taught in public and private schools in Westchester County until moving to Gloversville in 1950. She then taught at the Jansen Avenue Elementary School in Johnstown, retiring in 1975.
There are no known survivors.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 S. Main St. Cremation was at the Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
There are no calling hours.

Dolores Buanno

Mrs. Dolores M. Buanno, 85, formerly of Woodward Avenue, Gloversville, died Sunday at the Fulton County Infirmary after a long illness.
A lifelong Gloversville resident, Mrs. Buanno was a glovemaker for various area companies, retiring in 1982.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
Her husband, Comie Buanno, whom she married Nov. 12, 1933, died in 1956.
Survivors include two sons, Patsy A. Buanno of Gloversville and Henry F. Buanno of Enfield, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church.
Burial will be in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Johnstown.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Auxiliary of the Fulton County Infirmary or the Fulton County Ambulance Corps.

Martha Gorton
October 27, 1996
Mrs. Martha L. Gorton, 50, of Greenbush Road, Warnerville, died Sunday at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County after being stricken at home.
Born in Stamford, Mrs. Gorton was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Middleburgh Central School.
Mrs. Gorton was also a member of Breakabeen Presbyterian Church.
She married Melvin C. Gorton Sr. on April 11, 1965.
In addition to her husband, survivors a daughter, Violet Gorton of Warnerville; a son, Melvin C. Gorton Jr. of Sharon Springs; her mother, Mildred All Zeh of Blenheim, two sisters, Cheryl Engle of Blenheim and Rebecca Skowfoe of Fultonham; three brothers, Walter Zeh II of Schoharie, Raymond Zeh of Sharon Springs; and Michael Zeh of Central Bridge; and two grandchildren.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill.
Burial will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frances Fiala

Mrs. Frances Hernigle Fiala 80, of Van Epps Road, Fultonville, died Monday at home.
Born Feb. 21, 1916 in Medaryville, Ind., she was the daughter of Frank and Antonia Miniarik Hernigle. She was a graduate of Fonda High School.
She moved to Schenectady after marring her husband, Joseph A. Fiala on July 4, 1942.
Mrs. Fiala was a homemaker.
She returned to this area after her husband's death on Feb. 14, 1995.
She was a member of St. Madeline and Sophie Roman Catholic Church of Schenectady.
Survivors include two brothers, Joseph and Eugine Hernigle, both of Fultonville; two sisters, Anges Fish of Fultonville, and Mary Sutch of Jenson Beach, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home Inc., 15 Main St., Fultonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the St. Cecila's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda. Burial will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Fonda.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.
