Lucile Shults
September 15, 1996
Mrs. Lucile Coleman Shults, 99, of Wake Robin Drive, Shelburne, Vt.., died Sunday at the Wake Robin Nursing Home in Shelburne, after a brief illness.
Born in Stone Arabia, Town of Palatine, on June 8, 1897, she was the daughter of Peter Coleman and Orvetta Cook.
She graduated from the former Palatine Bridge School.
Mrs. Shults was a homemaker.
She had resided in Shelburne since April 1994 and was a lifelong Palatine Bridge resident.
She was a member of the former Stone Arabia Reformed Church.
Mrs. Shults married Raymond J. Shults on Dec. 17, 1915 in Ilion, N.Y. He died on Nov. 16, 1990.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris L. Crangle of Shelburne, Vermont; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by a son, Jack Shults, in May of 1988.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 11 :30 a.m. at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie.
The Rev. Wayne Cole will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
There will be no calling hours.

Deborah Karwan

Deborah J. Karwan, 47, of Nettleton Avenue, Haverhill, Mass., died Sunday at Hale Hospital.
Mrs. Karwan was born in Haverhill and was educated in Haverhill schools, graduating in 1967 from Haverhill High School. In 1969, she graduated from Northern Essex Community College. Later, she graduated from Wheaton College, where she earned a bachelor's degree in English composition with a minor in art.
Mrs. Karwan began her career with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Employment and Training in 1973. She spent many years in the Haverhill and Lawrence offices before being transferred to the Boston office where she became an administrative law judge. In that office, she also taught and trained.
At one time, many years ago, she was employed at Arlington Trust in Central Plaza in Haverhill.
Mrs. Karwan is survived by her husband, Richard E. Karwan, formerly of Amsterdam; her mother, Dorothy E. (Allard) County of Haverhill; an aunt, and several cousins.
Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Scatamacchia Funeral Home, 358 Washington St., Haverhill.

Herbert Mayne

Herbert F. Mayne Sr., of Kump Road, Wright, died Tuesday at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.
Born and educated in Heuvelton, St. Lawrence County, Mr. Mayne received his bachelor's and master's degrees from St. Lawrence University.
He was a school teacher and later the principal of George Jr. Republic School in Freeville, Tompkins County.
Mr. Mayne also served with the U.S. Army for five years and for 22 years, in the Army Reserves, retiring as a major.
In 1947, he began a career with the New York State Department of Education, Albany, retiring in 1976 as supervisor of continuing education.
Mr. Mayne served as Wright town supervisor in 1978 and 1979.
He was a member of American Legion Post 1261 in Schoharie; and was a charter member of the Town of Wright Lions Club and the Scho-Wright Ambulance Service.
Mr. Mayne was a member and elder of the Carlisle Presbyterian Church and also served as elder of the Presbyterian Church USA.
He married Edna "Peg" Mayne on Aug. 15, 1945.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Deborah Brandau of Gloversville; a son, the Rev. Herbert F. Mayne Jr. of Carlisle; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service of thanksgiving to God for his life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at the Carlisle Presbyterian Church, Route 20, Carlisle.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Carlisle or Esperance Presbyterian Churches, in care of Carlisle Treasurer, Doris Leverett, Box 99, Carlisle.
Arrangements are by the Langan Funeral Home, Schoharie and Central Bridge.
Norman Colburn
September 16, 1996
Norman D. Colburn, 81, formerly of Humphrey Road, Glen, died Monday at the Montgomery County Infirmary after a long illness.
Born July 5, 1915, in Easton, Pa., he was the son of Norman and Jennie Franklin Colburn. He attended schools in Easton and was graduate of Lafayette College of Easton with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He worked for the Baker Chemical Co. of Philipsburgh, N.J., then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge he worked for Stange Co. in Chicago, Ill., and also for the Lawrence Livermore Atomic Research Laboratory at the University of California at Berkley. He retired in 1971 and settled in the Town of Glen.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith.
There are no known survivors.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Fonda.
There will no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Girard Cuyler
September 17, 1996
Girard Cuyler, 59, of South Pawling Street, Hagaman, died Tuesday afternoon at his home.
Born Nov. 21, 1936, in Amsterdam, he was the son of Louis and Bella VanderSluys Cuyler. Mr. Cuyler was a lifelong resident of Hagaman.
He was lastly employed as a maintenance worker at Wood and Hyde Leather Co. in Hagaman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Cuyler is survived by three brothers, Dennis Cuyler, Gary Cuyler and Steve Nichols, all of Hagaman and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation will take place in Parkview Crematory in Schenectady.
There are no funeral services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hagaman Youth Commission.
Arrangements are by the Betz Funeral Home Inc, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam.
Antoinette Auriemma
September 18, 1996
Mrs. Antoinette Auriemma, 91, of Poplar Road, Amsterdam, died today at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born June 13, 1905, she was the daughter of Angelo and Vincenza DiCaprio. She attended Amsterdam schools and was a lifelong resident of the Amsterdam area.
Mrs. Auriemma was employed as a spinner for the former Mohawk Carpet Mills until retiring in the mid-1950s. She assisted her husband in the family agriculture business for several years after her retirement.
Mrs. Auriemma was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She was also a past member of the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She married Joseph S. Auriemma on Aug. 16, 1924. He died March 17, 1970.
Mrs. Auriemma is survived by two sons, Ralph J. Auriemma of Mayfield and Nicholas Auriemma of Amsterdam; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Auriemma was predeceased by her daughter, Marion Sala, in 1990.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael's Church. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
