Andrew Clauson

Aug. 29, 1996
Andrew S. Clauson, 49, of Cable Road, Town of Mohawk, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after being stricken at home.

Born April 16, 1947, in Brooklyn, he was the son of James W. and Penelope Parish Clauson.

Mr. Clauson received his bachelor's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in East Rutherford, N.J., and his master's degree in wildlife biology from Syracuse University School of Forestry.

He and his wife operated an Inn in Piseco after moving to this area in 1984. They operated Clauson's Strawberry Farm for the past 12 years. For the past six years he had been a teacher at the Alternative School in Amsterdam.

Mr. Clauson is survived by his wife, Diane Burgess, whom he married Nov. 16, 1974; a son, Daniel Clauson, also of the Town of Mohawk; a brother James Clauson Jr., also of Mohawk; a sister, Judith Holmes of Newtown, Conn.; his parents, of Montclair, N.J., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Barton & Donnan Funeral Home, Johnstown.

Dean Hartz

August 28, 1996
Dean Allen Hartz, 54, of County Route 110, Broadalbin, died Wednesday from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident on County Route 110.

Born in Mishwaka, Ind., Mr. Hartz came to Broadalbin in 1993.

He was a graduate of Grier School in New York City.

For the past 30 years, he worked for the Lee Dyeing Co. of North Carolina and served as vice president of manufacturing in the Johnstown and Gloversville offices.

Mr. Hartz was past commander for the Sons of the American Legion Post 337 and the Johnstown Loyal Order of Moose 1185.

He was a lifetime member of the Union Road Optimist Youth Club in Gastonia, N.C., and also coached several youth sports teams in Gastonia.

At one time, he served as a Boy Scout leader in Connecticut.

He married Donna Anderson Hartz on Jan. 18, 1975.

In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons, Dean G. Hartz of Pequabuck, Conn., Todd J. Hartz of Bantam, Conn., Eric C. Hartz of Gastonia, N.C., Scott A. Hartz of Broadalbin and Craig A. Hartz of Fort Hood, Texas; his mother, Gladys Ford Gasser of Litchfield, Conn.; a brother, Edward W. Gasser of Burlington, Conn.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Broadalbin Methodist Church, 67 N. Main St. Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Road Optimist Youth Club, Box 433, Gastonia, N.C., 28053.

Mary Sirtoli

August 28, 1996
Mary R. Sirtoli, 76, of Christy Road, Mayfield, died Wednesday at home after a long illness.

Born in Caizzo, Italy, Mrs. Sirtoli moved to the Gloversville area in 1928.

Mrs. Sirtoli was a homemaker, and a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Gloversville.

Her husband, Angelo Sirtoli, died in 1985.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Sirtoli of Westfield and John Sirtoli of Gloversville; two daughters, Ann Begeal of Hope Falls and Rose Haak of Gloversville; a brother, Anthony Tascillo of Gloversville; three sisters, Betty Malagisi, Lucy Ferrara, and Viola Tascillo, all of Gloversville; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church's building fund; Mountain Valley Hospice of Gloversville; or to Food for the Poor, 550 S. W. 12th Ave., apartment 4, Deerfield Beach, Fla. 33442.

Arrangements are by the Amico Funeral Home, Gloversville.

Thomas Doak

August 29, 1996
Thomas J. Doak, 36, of West Clinton Street, Johnstown, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a short illness.

Born in Amsterdam, Mr. Doak was educated in Randolph.

He was a forklift operator for the Buddy L. Co. in Mayfield.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Courtney Doak, whom he married this past May 29; three daughters, Crystal Zeth of Randolph, Christina and Katrina Doak, both of Fonda; two sons, David Doak of Fonda and Michael Doak of Gloversville; his father, William Doak of Gloversville; and four sisters, Cathy Simmons and Colleen and Carol Doak, all of Randolph, and Virginia Doak of Gloversville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Main and Melcher streets. Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery.

A calling hour will be held prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.

William Tooker

August 29, 1996
William H. Tooker, 82, of 186 Priddle Point Road, Mayfield, died Thursday afternoon at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, following a short illness.

Born April 30, 1914 in Gloversville, he was the son of Harold and Martha Hunter Tooker. He was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Tooker was a disabled prisoner of war in World War II, serving his country from April 20, 1944, to Oct. 2, 1945 in the U.S. Army Infantry.

He worded for several years at the former Fownes Glove Co. in Gloversville, and later for over 20 years as a press operator at MCA Record Co. in Gloversville, retiring in 1979.

Mr. Tooker was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gloversville and the Fulton County Disabled American Veterans.

He married Carrie L. Pryne on Nov. 11, 1939. She died Feb. 19, 1995.

Mr. Tooker is survived by two daughters, Diane C. Dambrosi of Amsterdam; and Kathy L. Lampman of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one sister, Evelyn T. Smith of Gloversville; one brother, Paul E. Tooker of Meco; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nieces,and several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the Rev. Edmund T. Freeborn III, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Carrie Bradt

August 28, 1996
Mrs. Carrie Wille Bradt, 89, of the Fulton County Infirmary, formerly of Meco, died Wednesday at the Infirmary, where she resided since 1988.

Born in Caroga, Mrs. Bradt was educated in Meco.

She was employed as a glove maker for the Sanges Glove Co., retiring in 1975.

Mrs. Bradt was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.

She married Edward "Ted" Bradt on Sept. 26, 1925. He died in 1977.

Mrs. Bradt is survived by three sons, Delbert, Orville, and Ralph Bradt, all of Meco; a sister, Marguerite Edwards of Gloversville; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Burial will take place in Fern Dale Cemetery in Johnstown.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.

Rita Mickel

August 28, 1996
Mrs. Rita Lansing Mickel, 96, formerly of Rotterdam and Esperance, died Wednesday at the Baptist Retirement Center.

Born in Niskayuna, Mrs. Mickel lived in Esperance for 30 years, moving to Rotterdam in 1979.

She was a member of the Esperance-Sloansville United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Floyd Mickel Sr., died in 1972.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Fancher of Arizona City, Ariz, and Mildred Mickel of Rotterdam; a son, Floyd Mickel Jr. of Esperance; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main St., Delanson. Burial will be in Esperance Cemetery.

A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Esperance-Sloansville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 254, Esperance, 12066 or the Fisher United Methodist Church, 1915 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady, 12306.
