John F. "Jack" Barnes Sr., 86, of Fairmount died Sunday. Born in Solvay, he lived there 80 years before moving to Fairmount five years ago. He graduated from Solvay High School and Syracuse University. He was an electrical engineer at General Electric Co. in Syracuse for more than 20 years. He was a member of Solvay Volunteer Fire Department for more than 50 years and was a member of Hill Top Social Club and Geddes Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of its Holy Name Society. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. His first wife, the former Jean M. Healy, died in 1972. Survivors: His wife of 25 years, the former Mary C. Howley Smith; three sons, John Jr. of Camillus, Thomas of Borodino and Michael of Syracuse; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Family Church. Burial, Assumption Cemetery. The family will greet friends in the church after the burial. Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus, has arrangements. Ethel Christians

Ethel Christians, 43, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Friday of lung cancer. Born in Lyon County, Iowa, she lived in Syracuse from 1977 to 1983. She attended Little Rock (Iowa) High School and Onondaga Community College. She was a secretary for the commission of jurors at the Onondaga County Courthouse from 1980 to 1983. Survivors: Her husband of 17 years, Marvin Potter; a daughter, Marsha Ware of Sioux Falls; three sons, Mark of Sioux Falls, Ezra and Paul, both of Worthington, Minn.; her parents, Delmar and Hilda Christians of George, Iowa; three sisters, Pearl Schriebler of Syracuse, Heidi Hess of Forest City, Iowa, and Gracie Depo of Franklington, N.C.; six brothers, Chad, Roger, Herman and Jason Christians, all of George, Ted of Slayton, Minn., and Fred of Rock Rapids, Iowa; two grandchildren. Services and burial: Will be in George. Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, has arrangements.

Joseph "Poncho" Dickquist, 88, of West First Street, Fulton, died Sunday. He was born in Jamestown. He retired as a welder for Local 173 Steamfitters & Pipefitters in Oswego. He was a member of St. Michael's Church in Fulton, Ed Bellinger Sr. Racing Team in Fulton and Fulton Polish Home. His wife, the former Catherine Duda, died in 1988. Survivors: Three daughters, Gloria Dickquist of Haines City, Fla., Marcia Loosen and Carol Coant, both of Fulton; a son, Joseph J. of Fulton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services: 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Young & Son Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church. Burial, St. Mary's Cemetery, Fulton. John C. Dudzinski Sr

John Chester Dudzinski Sr., 82, of 7322 Island Road, Cicero, died Monday at Birchwood Health Care Center, Liverpool. He was a life resident of Cicero. He retired in 1982 as a tool and die maker for Crucible Specialty Metals after 40 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 787, Cicero. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Rose Yanni Dudzinski, died in 1970. Survivors: Two daughters, Rosemary Corl and Theresa Dudzinski, both of Cicero; a son, John Jr. of Cicero; a brother, Henry of Onondaga Hill; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Linda LaLone Dart Froats, 56, of Skaneateles died Saturday. Born in Syracuse, she had also lived in Warners. Her first husband, Louie LaLone, died in 1995. Juliana Komarisky Giannone, 84, of 55 Drummond St., Auburn, died Sunday at Cayuga County Nursing Home in Sennett. She was a life resident of Auburn. She and her late husband owned and operated the former Green Acres restaurant in Auburn. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks auxiliary. Her husband, Anthony, died in 1994. Survivors: Two sons, Gerald of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Richard of Auburn; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild. Ellen Plummer Byrns Hartman, 76, of Delray Beach, Fla., died June 16. Born in New York, she lived in Liverpool and Salina 21 years, moving away in 1986. She retired in 1986 from Gaylord Bros. in Liverpool after more than 20 years. Survivors: Her husband, Morris; three daughters, Joan Quinn and Janet Dennis, both of Boca Raton, Fla., and Peg Baily of Delray Beach; three sons, William Hartman of East Syracuse, James Hartman of Chicago and Paul Byrns of Syracuse; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. Richard W. Hilton, 83, of 31 Hilton Road, Pulaski, died Sunday. Born in Orwell, he attended Sandy Creek schools and moved to Pulaski 62 years ago. He and his wife operated a Holstein dairy farm for 40 years. He was a deputy for the Oswego County Sheriff's Department from 1964 to '77 and did furniture upholstering for many years. He was a master and member of Pulaski Grange 730 and past deputy of New York State Grange. His wife, the former Ethel M. Syfert, died in 2000. Survivors: A daughter, Judith Clemens of Marshall, Mo.; a son, James R. of Altmar; a sister, Emma Teachout of Pulaski; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Ethel M. Haskins McFarland, 90, formerly of East Hill Road, Munnsville, died Sunday. Born in Troy, N.H., she graduated from Keene (N.H.) High School and Dresser Business College in Keene. She lived in Munnsville 45 years and in Oriskany Falls for a year before moving to the Eastern Star Nursing Home in Oriskany in 1999. She retired in 1968 as a secretary for Oneida Ltd. in Sherrill after 17 years. She was a member and deacon of First Congregational Church in Munnsville where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of Oneida Bird Club and Stockbridge Valley Homemakers. She helped make the sesquicentennial quilt for the town of Stockbridge. Her husband of 41 years, Harley N., died in 1983. Survivors: A daughter, Jean Heidel of Waterville; a son, H. Newton of Ontario; a sister, Dorothy Trembley of Jaffrey, N.H.; a half brother, John Kreutz of Riegelsville, Pa.; three grandchildren. Services: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Congregational Church. Burial, Stockbridge Cemetery. Calling hour, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the church, Williams Road, Munnsville. Ralph food brokerage company, Syracuse. He previously owned Nance's Corp., Rochester. He was the national sales manager for Richardson's Food Corp., Rochester. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol Association and Onondaga Golf and Country Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the 10th Mountain Division. Survivors: His wife of 54 years, the former Gretchen Pierce; three daughters, Kristen Ralph of Syracuse, Karen Maandag of Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Chandler Ralph of Lake Placid; a son, John Jr. of Manlius; a sister, Barbara Deschaine of Easton, Pa.; four grandchildren.
