Donald Yeates

March 24, 1997
Donald E. Yeates, 72, of 166 Fifth Ave., Gloversville, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after being stricken at home.

Born April 10, 1924 in Gloversville, he was the son of Charles and Alice Fiske Yeates. He was a lifelong Gloversville resident. Mr. Yeates was a 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School.

He was in the U.S. Army from Jan. 27, 1943, through Dec. 19, 1945, serving in the 386th AAA Battalion.

Mr. Yeates was first employed at General Electric Co. in Schenectady around World War II. For 35 years from 1946 until his retirement in 1981, he was a letter carrier for the Gloversville post office. He then became a tour guide and groundskeeper with the Sir William Johnson Hall in Johnstown from 1981 to 1993.

He was a member of the Fremont Street United Methodist Church, where he is a choir member, and past chairman of the church board. Also, he was past president of both the Fremonters, and of the Methodist Men; past chairman of the Church Finance Committee and National Association of Letter Carriers. He was current treasurer of the 386th AAA Battalion.

He married Marion Brown on June 6, 1959.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, David C. Yeates of Pomona, Calif.; Douglas C. Yeates of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Jeffrey E. Yeates of Liverpool; a sister, Shirley Burns of Gloversville; four grandchildren, four nieces and several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Fremont Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Erik L. Smith officiating. Spring burial will be at Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery in Broadalbin.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fremont Street United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont St., Gloversville, 12078.

Raymond Borst

March 24, 1997
Raymond H. Borst, 88, formerly of Grand Street, Amsterdam, died Monday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility after a brief illness.

Born June 15, 1908 in Glen, he was the son of Allen and Anna Karker Borst. He was educated in Amsterdam city schools. Mr. Borst was employed as a plumber and steamfitter for Local 105 in Schenectady for many years until retiring in 1972.

Mr. Borst was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

His wife, the former Marie Juedes, whom he married Feb. 14, 1948, died in September of 1981.

Survivors include his daughter, Ann Musgrave of Amsterdam and two granddaughters, Heather Musgrave of Amsterdam and Jessica Musgrave of Great Barrington, Mass.; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 tonight at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Robert E. Doxey officiating. Spring interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill.

A calling hour will begin at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA in care of the funeral home office.

Dorothy Hendrickson

March 24, 1997
Mrs. Dorothy Mickel Hendrickson, 89, of Jay Ridge Apartments, Cobleskill, died Monday at Eden Park Nursing Home.

Born in Warnerville, Mrs. Hendrickson lived there until moving to Cobleskill in the 1950s. She was a graduate of Cobleskill High School and Teachers College, now the State University of New York at Cobleskill.

She taught in a one-room schoolhouse prior to her marriage.

Her husband, Magnus R. Hendrickson, died in 1970.

Mrs. Hendrickson was a member of the United Methodist Church of Warnerville.

Survivors include a niece, Shirley Burton of Maryland; and three nephews, John and Gilbert Barlow, and Roger Mickel, all of Warnerville.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Thursday at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 1 Chapel St. Burial will be held at a later date in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.

A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.

Anna McCarthy

March 25, 1997
Mrs. Anna Mae Oliver McCarthy, 77, of Johnstown, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville.

She was a graduate of Johnstown High School. Mrs. McCarthy was employed as a knitter at the Swears Knitting Co. for many years. She was also a waitress at the Rainbow Restaurant.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen J. Vosburgh of Schenectady; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William St. Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Jason Hickok

March 25, 1997
Jason A. Hickok, 21, of 34 Third St., Gloversville, died Tuesday in a motor vehicle accident on Sand Hill Road in Mayfield.

Born April 12, 1975 in Gloversville, he was the son of Glen P. and Margaret I. Nellis Sanders.

A lifelong Gloversville resident, he was a 1993 graduate of Gloversville High School, where he was active in track and field and on the stage crew for the drama department. At the time of his death, he was attending Fulton-Montgomery Community College, planning on becoming a history teacher.

After high school, Mr. Hickok was employed at Finkle Distributors in Mayfield. At the time of his death he was employed at Fritz's Pizza and Subs in Broadalbin.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Mr. Hickok was a member of Moose Lodge No. 351.

In addition to his parents, survivors include a brother, Daniel S. Sanders of Gloversville; his maternal grandmother, Patricia Nellis of Gloversville; his paternal grandfather, Vincent Cerra of Amsterdam; his paternal grandparents, Eseck and Kathleen Sanders of Caroga Lake and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A prayer service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the Rev. Thomas J. Boyle, administrator of Sacred Heart Church, officiating. Cremation will be at Parkview Crematory in Schenectady.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Rebecca Bowman

March 25, 1997
Rebecca Hinkle Bowman, 99, formerly of Stewart Street, Amsterdam, died Tuesday evening at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home, where she has been a resident since 1994.

Born May 21, 1897 in Hagaman, she was the daughter of Charles and Catherine Williams Hinkle. Mrs. Bowman moved to Amsterdam in 1921. Mrs. Bowman was a 1914 graduate of Amsterdam High School and received her teaching degree in 1916 from the Oneonta Normal School Class of 1916.

She was a school teacher for 30 years with the Amsterdam city school district, retiring in 1967.

She was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Amsterdam and was a member of the Trinity Guild and the Guild for Christian Service of that church. She was a member of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Amsterdam Chapter of the Oneonta Alumni Association.

She married Burdette F. Bowman on June 12, 1920. He died April 19, 1982.

Survivors include a son, Roger Clinton Bowman of Los Angeles, Calif., Venice, Fla., and Caroga Lake; three grandchildren and one nephew, H. Frank Bowman of Nelliston.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. Interment will be in Hagaman Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Wendy Ainsworth

March 25, 1997
Wendy Ainsworth, 17, of Fish House Road, Galway, died Tuesday after an automobile accident in Mayfield.

Born April 21, 1979 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Charles and Lynne Ainsworth. She lived with her grandmother on Fish House Road.

She was a senior at Galway High School.

In addition to her parents, survivors include two brothers, Scott and Brian Ainsworth, both of Galway; her paternal grandmother, Shirley Ainsworth of Galway; her maternal grandmother, Reva Morris of Wilton; three nephews, a niece and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Galway United Methodist Church, Sacandaga Road, Galway. Burial will be in the spring at Warrensburg Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Armer Funeral Home Inc., 39 E. High St., Ballston Spa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wendy Ainsworth Memorial Fund, in care of Ballston Spa National Bank, Galway office, 5791 Sacandaga Road, Galway, 12074.

Jason Compagnino

March 25, 1997
Jason G. Compagnino, 20, of Hagadorn Mills Road, Broadalbin, died Tuesday in an auto accident on Sand Hill Road in Mayfield.

Born in Schenectady, Mr. Compagnino was a 1995 graduate of Galway Central School. He was voted most valuable player of the Galway Eagles baseball team in 1994. He was on the All Star team in 1993 and 1994.

He was a carpenter with Clute Construction in Charlton at the time of his death.

Survivors include his parents, Mario J. and Sharon M. Zych Compagnino of Broadalbin; three brothers, Nicholas Compagnino of Schenectady; Mario J. Compagnino Jr. of Broadalbin and Anthony Compagnino of Ballston Spa; a sister, Gina Compagnino of Galway; and his maternal grandmother, Mabel Zych of Rexford.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home, Sacandaga Road, Galway. Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity.
