Kenneth B. Slate, 76, of 1092 Morgan Road, Memphis, died Sunday. Born in Alexandria Bay, he lived in Memphis since 1952. He retired in 1987 as a machine repairman for New Process Gear after 37 years. He was a Boy Scout leader for 46 years and former scoutmaster of Troop 143 in Memphis. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Memphis and Plainville Fire Department and fire police and was a former member of United Auto Workers Local 624. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. A daughter, Melissa E. Flora, died in 1992. Survivors: His wife, the former Eleanor Sartwell; two daughters, Juanita A. Eadon of Camillus and Cynthia Marty of Elbridge; two sons, Stephen K. of Meridian and Raymond M. of Cicero; three sisters, Rose Johnston of Scarborough, Ontario, Doris Burgess and Jean Robbins, both of Baldwinsville; a brother, Ernest Robbins of Kenmore; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Bush Funeral Home, Elbridge. Burial, Kingdom Cemetery. Calling hours, 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 120 E. Main St., Elbridge. Margaret M. VanAlstine

Margaret M. VanAlstine of Syracuse died Monday. Born in Boston, she graduated from Boston Teachers College and Syracuse University College of Business Management. She retired in 1975 as a teacher for the Syracuse City School District after 24 years and had taught at Eastwood High School and Henninger High School. She was a communicant of St. Daniel's Church in Lyncourt and a volunteer with Crouse Hospital for many years. She was a member of McChesney Park Seniors in Syracuse and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. Her husband, James, died in 1970. Survivors: A daughter, Patricia A. Cowles of Syracuse; three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren. Services: 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. Daniel's Church. Burial, Assumption Cemetery. Julia Pankhurst Alford, 75, of Lake Road, Oneida, died Tuesday. Born in Vernon, she graduated from Vernon High School and Utica School of Commerce. She retired in 1991 as a secretary for Oneida Ltd. after 45 years. She was a member of Oneida Retirement Club and Community Associated Clubs. Katharine Sedgwick Burlingame, 81, of 40 Lincklaen St., Cazenovia, died June 1 of a stroke. Born in Buck's County, Pa., she graduated from Westtown (Pa.) Boarding School and attended Hollins College, Roanoke, Va. She was a homemaker. Survivor: A cousin, Elizabeth Burlingame Emory of Cazenovia. Harlow L. Chase, 85, of 3703 county Route 22, Lacona, died Monday. Born in Boylston, he graduated from Sandy Creek School in 1933. He retired in 1980 as a self-employed building contractor and a bus driver for Sandy Creek Central School after 30 years. He was a 50-year member and a trustee of Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church. He was a member of Robert Edwards American Legion Post in Pulaski. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 55 years, the former Margaret Rudd; two daughters, Kathleen Chase of New York City and Dr. Priscilla Thibault of Orwell; a sister, Mildred Reid of Lacona; four grandchildren. Services: 10 a.m. Friday in Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church. Burial, Wesleyan Cemetery. Calling hours, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the church, North Main Street, Sandy Creek. She attended Peterboro School. She retired in 1983 as a cafeteria worker at SUNY Morrisville after five years. She was a member of Peterboro United Methodist Church. Her husband of 25 years, Armas Miller, died in 1961; her husband of 28 years, Clarence Madore, died in 1990; a son, Dennis Miller, died in 1994.
