Jana Jo (Danforth) Doyle

HAMMONDSPORT - Jana Jo (Danforth) Doyle, 60, died peacefully in her home on Oct. 15, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jana was known for her beautiful smile, her varied interests, her sense of humor, and her love for family and friends.

Born March 31, 1947, in Ilion, she was named Jana Jo after a horse that was racing in New York that weekend. The horse won the race. She attended Ilion Schools, and excelled in swimming, dancing and cheerleading. Upon graduation, she worked for the Oneida National Bank in Utica.

Jana and her husband Mike were married in 1967 at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. They lived in Merced, California, in Syracuse, and then Rochester where Mike practiced law, and Jana tended to a young family. They moved to Hammondsport in 1976 to begin a lifelong passion for winemaking and the Finger Lakes. In the mid 1990's Jana and Mike revived the historic Pleasant Valley Wine Company. Jana was a fixture in the Visitor Center, greeting people, sharing the history of the company, and helping visitors find just the right wine.

She loved golf and was a volunteer for many years at the LPGA Corning Classic. She was a member of the Bath Country Club, and on major weekends could be found perched in front of the television watching her idol Tiger Woods.

Jana had a passion for music and loved introducing friends to her newest favorites. She was known to play Neil Diamond, Barbara Streisand, Roy Orbison and Josh Groban, among others, over and over.

Survivors include her husband Michael, son Patrick (Casey) of Binghamton, daughter Pamela (Adam) Gee of Elmira, son Matthew (Carre) of Hammondsport; grandchildren, Mary Katherine and Michael, Nathaniel and Samuel, and Jacob, Gabrielle and Zachary, sister, Sandy Ebner of Parsippany, New Jersey, brother Robert Danforth of South Africa, brother Glenn Danforth of Ilion, sister Shelly Morris of Ilion, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father John, her dear mother Wilma and her faithful companion Tanner, a brittany spaniel.

Friends and relatives were invited to call at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath on Friday, Oct. 19, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service was held at St. Gabriel's Church in Hammondsport on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1316 College Avenue, Elmira, NY 14901, Finger Lakes Humane Society, 7315 Route 54, Bath, NY 14810 or the Southern Tier Hospice 11751 E. Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830.

Frieda Thomas

SAVONA - Frieda Thomas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007 at her home, under the care of her loving husband, John Thomas, and her children.

Frieda was a housewife and loving mother, first and foremost. She also worked as a waitress at the Savona Diner. Frieda was born on August 20, 1932 in Weisbaden, Germany, the daughter of Heinrich and Henrietta Hahl. She and John married in 1954 and thus her journey began.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Thomas of Savona; brother, Heinrich Hahl (Analisa), Austria; cousin Bodo Leitz (Inga), Germany; and her children, Ilona Kendrick (Jeff) of North Carolina, John Thomas (Kelly) of Savona, Chester Thomas (Donna) of Maryland, Richard Thomas (Sue) of Texas, William Thomas (Janis) of Savona, Angela Thomas (Dave) of Campbell, Jim Thomas (present) Nevada, Joe Thomas (Carol) of Savona; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 12, at the Seager Funeral home in Savona. The Rev. J. Brad Benson officiated.

Donations may be made to Southern Tier Hospice.

Patricia A. Adamowicz

BATH - Patricia A. Adamowicz, 73, of West Morris Street, Bath, went home to be with the Lord and her husband on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007.

She was born in Bradford, Nov. 2, 1933 the daughter of the late John and Irene (Ukasiak) Luta. She graduated from Bradford Central School in 1951 and attended many Banker's Schools. She married Henry Adamowicz Oct. 15, 1955, he predeceased her May 24, 1996.

Pat was an avid bowler for45 years, she was a member of St. Mary's Church in Bath, the Rosary and Alter Society, and she was a Eucharistic Minister and Lectour at St. Mary's. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5147 Auxiliary, R.S.V.P., Charles E. Wescott Post 173 American Legion Auxiliary, Bath V.F.W. 1470 Auxiliary, Bath Volunteer Ambulance, Meals on Wheels and for 3 years volunteered at the Finger Lakes Humane Society recycling cans and bottles. She worked at Corning Inc. for 12 years and retired from Bath National Bank as an Assistant Cashier after 25 years.

She is survived by her sister Amy and Joseph Barrett of Phoenix, Arizona, special friends Michael Bocek of Savona and Ruth and Gary Waldo of Bath and their children, Debbie and Jim Fisher, Dwight and Kim Waldo and Duane Waldo; nephew and niece Pete and Nancy Watson of Bath and great nieces, Wendy and Mark Sherwood, Jodi and Jake Bigelow and Kelli and Jamie Bigelow, and their children; nephews, Todd Reed and Bryan Riesbeck, brother-in-law John and Brunhilda Adamowicz, sister-in-law, Jenny Gronski, aunt Helen Dewitt and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends.

Calling hours were held on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at St. Mary's Church in Bath from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Church with Reverend Peter Anglaaere presider assisted by Deacon Ray Defendorf.

A graveside service was held on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Bath.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be sent to Finger Lakes Humane Society, 7315 Route 54 Bath, NY 14810.

Fagan's Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Martin Chaploney

HAMMONDSPORT - Martin Chaploney, 89, of Myers Road, Hammondsport, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2007 at the Corning Hospital, Corning.

He was born May 4, 1918 in Coalport, Pennsylvania to Martin Sr. and Caroline Chaploney.

He retired from the Bath V.A. Medical Center in the Engineering Department. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor, World War II, serving in the Pacific Islands. He was a member of the American Legion Post 407, Hammondsport and St. Stanilsulas Church, Bradford.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the Seager Funeral Home, 23 Main Street, Savona, on Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 2-4 p.m. with funeral services following at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Patrick Conor officiating. Burial was held in Bradford Cemetery, Bradford.

Ruby L. Bailey

NEW BREMEN- Funeral services for Ruby L. Bailey, 94, of Tillman Rd., New Bremen will be held at 5 p.m. Oct. 21, 2007 at the Adirondack Funeral Home, Croghan, with Rev. Evan Zehr, pastor of Lowville Mennonite Church officiating. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 23 in Nondaga Cemetery, Bath. Calling hours will be held from 2:30- 4:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bailey was born in Bath, Nov. 5, 1912 to Raymond and Iva Wheaton Fulford. She graduated from Bath High School. She married George Bailey in 1931. The marriage ended in divorce. After her divorce, she owned and operated a dairy farm, managed a chicken farm in Pennsylvania and worked in foodservice at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Bath. She had lived in northern New York since the early 1970's.

She was well known in the area for making fan pillows. She enjoyed gardening, horseback riding, and animals.

She is survived by two sons, Robert, with whom she resided and Norman of Livermore California. She is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and five greatgreat grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by a sister Leona Hutches.

Robert C. Bonbrake

BATH - Robert C. Bonbrake, 81, of Cook Street, Bath, died Sept. 30, 2007 at the Woodside Hospice Center in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born in Corning, Nov. 16, 1925 the son of George and Flora Mae VanOrder Bonbrake. He was a retired Post Master from the Bath V.A.M.C. He was a member of the St. Mary's Church in Bath, Knights of Columbus Council 5147 in Bath, SAI Center in Clearwater, Florida and Ithaca, and he was a WWII Night Fighters 421st Squadron Army Aircorps Veteran.

He is survived by his daughters, Diane (James) Huver of Dansville; grandchildren, Susan (Andrew) Grammatico of Webster and Jamie Huver of Dansville; his sister, Bonnie B. Michaels of Gulfport, Florida, sister-in-law, Ruth Bonbrake of St. Petersburg, Florida; brothers-in-law, Arthur Moran of Bath and Bruce McAree of Palm Coast, Florida; several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Mourette Bonbrake in 1990, brother Clifford 'Bud' Bonbrake, brothers-in-law Russell Moran, Christopher Michaels, Thomas McAree and sisters in law, Ginger Moran and Peggy Moran.

Friends and family are invited to call on Saturday, October 27th from 1-4 p.m. at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath. A Memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, at St. Mary's Church in Bath with Reverend Peter Anglaaere presider.

Burial with Military Honors will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post on Sunday at noon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodside Hospice House, 6770 102nd Avenue N., Pinellas Park, FL33782.

Marjorie M. DeGroff

BATH - Marjorie M. DeGroff, of Bath, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at the Steuben County Health Care Facility.

Survivors include her husband, Harold DeGroff of Bath.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Bath National Cemetery.

Arrangements are with Bond-Davis Funeral Home of Bath.

Nina M. Howell

TYRONE - Nina M. Howell, 98, formerly of Tyrone, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007 at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany.

She was born Nov. 2, 1909 in Tyrone the daughter of Asa and Rozetta Price Huey.

Nina was the head baker at Westinghouse in Bath in the 50's and 60's, after retiring, she was the Town of Tyrone Tax Collector for several years.

She was the oldest member, in terms of age and membership of the Tyrone United Methodist Church, member of the Tyrone Easter Star and the Tyrone Grange.

Surviving are her sons Robert A. (Dorothy) Howell of Avon Park, Florida and Lawrence C. (Joan) Howell of Bradford; sister-in-law Colleen Howell of Bradford; 9 grandchildren Roger, Linda, Don and David Howell and Jack, Art, Bill, Tim, Jim Allard; 14 greatgrandchildren; one greatgreat grandchild; and four nieces.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Arthur R. Howell in 1988 and daughter Cleda Allard in 1986.

Friends called from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at the LaMarche Funeral Home, 35 Main St., Hammondsport. An Eastern Star Service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Tyrone United Methodist Church immediately followed by funeral services with Rev. Joseph Auslander and Rev. Brian Homan. Officiating interment was held in the Tyrone Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church or the Eastern Star Home P.O. Box 959 Oriskany, NY 13424.

Daniel David Griffin

PULTENEY - Daniel David Griffin, of Cross Street in South Pulteney, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira after a brief illness.

David was born on Sept. 25, 1930 to Peter and Mary McGannon Griffin. He graduated from Corning Free Academy in Corning, attending General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. David and Shirley Kniffin were married on July 11, 1953. David was a member of the U.S. Navy in the Korean Conflict, where he received the China Service Medal. He was the proprieter of Griffin's Garage in Painted Post prior to retiring from Corning Natural Gas Company in 1992.

David loved living at Keuka Lake for many years, enjoying the view, as well as sailing, one of his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed delivering buses for handicapped transportation during his retirement.

David is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley; daughters and sons in laws, Michelle and Michael Quattrini of Corning, Stephany and Morris Skenderian of Laguna Beach, California; son, Daniel Griffin of Wayne; and grandson, Richard Miller of Vail, Colorado David is also survived by a dear cousin, The Rev. Father Robert F. McNammara of Rochester; brother in law, Richard Kniffin of Corning; sister in law's and husbands, Jane and Richard Goltry of Bath, Rosalie and Lee Wilson of Tuscon, Arizona. Several nieces and nephews and many close friends. David was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Mary McGannon Griffin; brother Peter Griffin; and sister, Patricia Ward.

There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass was held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel's in Hammondsport. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are with LaMarche Funeral Home in Hammondsport.

The family provided flowers. Donations can be made in David's name to The Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, Bo x 76 , Hammondsport, N.Y. or St. Gabriel's Church in Hammondsport.
