THONOTOSASSA, Fla. - Betty J Salerno, 78, of Thonotosassa Florida. Formerly of Bath, passed away May 5, 2006. She was born January 7, 1928 in Hammondsport.

She died peacefully after a lengthy illness surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by Parents William and Sylvia Champlin and Husbands Frank Lisefski and Joseph Salerno. Survived by Sister Barbara Strait of Bath, children Christie Blackham of Newfield, Bill (Alison) Lisefski of Bath, Tony (Pam) Lisefski of Bath, Mike (Vicki) Lisefski, of Orlando Florida, Dinah Salerno (Albert Burleson) of Thonotosassa Florida, Jon (Donna) Lisefski of Thonotosassa Florida. Stepchildren Robert (Kathy), Joseph, and Bonnie Salerno of New Jersey. Grandchildren Nicole Blackham and Michael Blackham, of New York City. William Lisefski II of VanEtten. Rachel Lisefski, Kyle Lisefski, Jessica Lisefski, Vanessa Lisefski, Amanda Lisefski of Bath, OS Michael Lisefski II US Navy of Jacksonville Florida, Tristica Lisefski, Dylan Lisefski of Orlando Florida, Jeremy (Katie) Campbell of Hector, Stacy (Patrick) Smith of Thonotosassa Florida, Danielle (Monroe) Bates of Hornell, Tara Randall of Naples, William Burleson , Bethani Burleson, Bryan Burleson of Savona, Rachal Lisefski of Jacksonville Florida, Sara Lisefski of Thonotosassa Florida, Justin Lisefski, LeAnn Lisefski and Jon Lisefski of Monterey, Jason Burdick of Rochester, Jeremy (Joy) Burdick of Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Great-grandchildren Dameon J. Smith of Thonotosassa Florida, Javan (Little Tony) Lisefski of Bath, Riley Burdick of Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Her loving pets Maggie and Kitty Puffs. Several nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was the previous owner and operator of the Oasis Restaurant in Pulteney, worked in several area restaurants and retired from the Bath VA Hospital. Past member of VFW and American Legion Auxilary of Bath.

Services will be held on June 26 at 10 a.m. at the Bath VA Chapel. Family will receive friends at the Bath American Legion following the service. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LifePath Hospice Services, 12973 Telecom Parkway Suite 100, Temple Terrace, Florida 33637, or online at www.lifepathhopice. org.

Laura A. Reed

CAMPBELL - Laura A. Reed, 84, of Reed Hill Road, Campbell died May 8 at home surrounded by her family.

Laura was a wonderful homemaker and was a great seamstress, cook and baker. She enjoyed entertaining and no one ever went hungry in her home. She was also quite the shutterbug, capturing wonderful memories of her family's life on film. She touched many young lives as a school bus driver and Kindergarten aide for Campbell Central School. She also worked a great many years as an Avon representative, developing lasting friendships while helping make people beautiful!

She was born November 8, 1921 in Thompson, Pennsylvania to the late Clarence and Edna Meade Wallace.

She is survived by her loving husband William C. Reed, her partner for the past 63 years. She is also survived by her children Wyland W. Reed of Painted Post, Joan C. (Martin) Blank of Bath, and Ronald W. (Kay) Reed of Spencerport. She was predeceased by her son Rexford D. Reed. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Heidi (Mike Southard) Reed, and son Aaron Southard; Barry Reed; Daphne (Josh) Gauss and son Nathan King all of Campbell; Heather (Jamie) Quick and daughters Destinie, Kameo and Paris of Bath; Holly (Theron Seeley) Blank of Savona; Tricia (Jeff) Kenney and son Jeremy of Georgia; Tammy (Caleb) Womack and son Gabriel of Tennessee; Tracy Reed of Tennessee; Cassey Dicky of Spencerport; Amy (Richard) Lightner and daughter Kira of Arizona; Rexanne (Dan) Jankowski and daughter Danielle of Elkland, Pennsylvania; Susan (Bill) Warrick and daughter Kendra and son Hunter of Corning. She was predeceased by great-grandson Cody Southard.

Laura is survived by a brother Nelson Wallace of Elko, Nevada. She was predeceased by a brother Layton Wallace and a sister Louise Wallace. "Aunt Larry", as she was affectionately known, is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service was held on Friday, May 12 at 5 p.m. at the Campbell United Methodist Church on Main Street in Campbell, the church in which Laura and Bill started their married life together. A fellowship dinner followed the service. The family provided flowers. Memorials may be made to the Campbell United Methodist Church, Campbell; the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester, 333 Westmoreland Dr., Rochester, NY 14620; or a charity of one's choice.

Loleta Edgerton

NAPLES - Loleta Ruth (Sexton) Edgerton of Naples passed away at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath on Saturday, April 15. She was 94.

Mrs. Edgerton was born on August 23,1911 in Hornell, the daughter of Lester and Marcia (Keeler) Sexton. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Arnold; son, Ronald; grandson, Alan; and great granddaughter, Jillian, all of Naples.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Patrice Edgerton of Naples; grandchildren, Cheryl Northrup and Ronald Edgerton of Naples, Lee Edgerton of California., and Chris Edgerton of Texas; a sister, Marilyn Murphy of Bath; 11 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 at the Baird-Moore Funeral Home in Naples where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Naples Fire Department or Naples Ambulance, P.O. Box 671, Naples, 14512.

Lewis M. Kelly

BATH - Lewis M. Kelly, 78, of 19 Birch Street, Bath, entered into rest Wednesday May 10 at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital, Bath.

He was born in Monterey on May 7, 1928 the son of Jacob and Grace Putman. He married the former Betty Hadlock on June 7, 1952 in Monterey.

He was retired in 1988 from Corning Inc. where he was a machinist for 18 years, and prior to that worked at Ingersoll Rand and Switzer Aircraft. He also owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Addison for 16 years.

He was a member of the Tuscarora Baptist Church and Local #1000 A.F.G.W. Union. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Hadlock Kelly; a daughter, Sheila (Mrs. James) Hierholzer of Baldwinsville; five sons, Edward Kelly, Michael (Wanda) Kelly both of Richmond, Virginia, Paul (Terri ) Kelly of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Wayne (Patsy) Kelly and Jay (Linda) Kelly both of Richmond, Virginia; two brothers, Clayton Kelly of St. Cloud, Florida and Harley (Doris) Kelly of Fort Wayne, Ind; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Leona Shick and Fannie Kelly.

Predeceased by parents, brothers, Alton, Harold, Darwin, Floyd, and Richard Kelly; sisters, Gertrude Burt, Margaret Courtney, Bertha Hively and Evelyn VanZile.

Friends called Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall Street, Addison where services will be held at the conclusion of calling at 2 p.m. with Rev. L.D. Maxsom officiating. Burial will be in Addison Rural Cemetery, Addison.

Memorials may be made to Tuscarrora Baptist Church.

Edward "Bill" William Schneider

BATH - Edward "Bill" William Schneider, 75, of Clubview Dr., passed away unexpectedly Monday May 8 at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, Wellsboro, Pennsylvania.

He was born November 20, 1930 in Coshocton, to the late Leo and Winifred Ball Schneider.

Bill was a caring and devoted father and grandfather. He never met a stranger that he didn't like to talk to. Many knew him as the "meat man" or the man to fix a sewing machine. He loved to fish, hunt, and spend time with his family.

He is survived by his brother, Ri c hard Schneider of Rush; his children, Rhonda K. Pierce of Elon, North Carolina, Kelley L. Smith of Burlington, N o r t h Carolina, Aaron W. Schneider of Avoca, and Elizabeth Schneider of Mebane, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends called at Seager Jones Funeral Home, 4 E. Washington St., Bath, on Thursday May 11 from 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Pius Roman Catholic Church, Coshocton, on Friday May 12 at 11 a.m., Rev. Stephen Korani, celebrant. Burial was held in Lent Cemetery, Coshocton.

Franklin D. Lester (Jiggs)

PULTENEY - On May 27, 2006, Franklin D. Lester (Jiggs), beloved husband of the late Mary G. Lester and loving father of Betty L. Kline and her husband Jerry of Baltimore, Maryland; Grandfather of Thomas R. Poremski, Jr and his wife Michele, Sandra L. Lambie and her husband Roger of Baltimore, Maryland, and Barbara A. Kossegi and her husband Keith of Katy, Texas. Great Grandfather to R.J. Lambie, Timothy Lambie, Stefanie Kossegi and Christopher Kossegi. Loving Uncle to William Stenger and his wife Jean, Larry Stenger and his wife Peggy, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Holly Finlayson and Sherry McClurkin both of Hammondsport.

Jiggs was a former resident of S. Main St. in Pulteney, Army veteran of the Korean War and WWII, and a member of the Hammondsport American Legion and Bath Steuben County Veterans Memorial.

Services and interment will be helld at Moreland Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland at a later date.

Arrangements are by the LaMarche Funeral Home of Hammondsport.

Ruth C. Dennis

JASPER - Ruth C. Dennis, 83, of Coon Rd. entered into rest Wednesday (May 31, 2006) at her home.

Ruth was born November 13, 1922 in New Haven, Connecticut to Wallace and Edith Hanson Cornwell. On January 29,1944, in Kenmore she married Robert G. Dennis who predeceased here in March of 1991. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter Donna Turner.

She was a graduate of Kenmore High School and attended the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University for 3 years. Ruth had been employed by Bell Aircraft in 1943, was a correspondent for the Hornell Evening Tribune since 1955. From 1960-78 she was a reporter for the Tribune and from 1958-60 had been the editor for the Canisteo Times. Ruth and her late husband had operated "RD 1 & 2" promotions, writing and producing agricultural newsletters throughout New York State, New England and Pennsylvania. She was a freelance writer and public relations consultant for the Hornell Area Arts Council, St. James Mercy Hospital and agricultural organizations. She had articles published in the "Gait", Democrat and Chronicle, Rural New York, American Hereford Journal, American Agriculturist and Country Folks.

Ruth and her late husband had owned and operated Woodbury Stock Farms in Jasper for many years. She received the N.Y. Cattlemen's Presidents Award for Outstanding Service in Public Relations.

She was the first women to serve on the Jasper Central School Board of Education, and she was a clerk of session and elder of the United Church in Jasper. She was on the local Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society, a member of the Eastern Star in Jasper, the Jasper Grange and an active member of the Canisteo Rotary Club. In earlier years she and her husband were very active and proud foster parents providing a home and comfort to children in need. In recognition of community service she and her husband received the Jasper Citizens of the Year Award in 1976.

Ruth is survived by three sons, Timothy (Dawn) Dennis of Penn Yan, Stephen (Rebecca) Dennis of Jasper, and Douglas (Joan) Mason of Hornell. Her grandchildren Michael Dennis, Laura Dennis-Bay, Aaron and Rachel Dennis, Julie Granger and Wayne D. Mason, Jr. 13 Great Grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Two brothers, Calvin (Elaine) Cornwell of Kenmore, and Robert (June) Cornwell of Greenburg, Indiana. Two sisters, Glenys Brown of Briar Cliff Manor, and Carol (Brian) Denehey of Higgins, Australia.

The family will received friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at the H.P. Smith and Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A funeral service will be held today, June 4 at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Jasper with Rev. David Barnard officiating. Burial will be held in the Jasper Cemetery.

Larry W. Mattoon

APOPKA, FLORIDA - Larry W. Mattoon, age 65, of Apopka, Florida passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006. Larry was born April 11,1941 in Avoca to Kenneth O and Mary G. Mattoon. He had been an Engineer and had served in the US Navy.

Larry is survived by his wife, Janice of Ormond By The Sea, Florida and two sons, Matthew Mattoon and Eric W. Mattoon both of Ormond Beach, Florida.

Visitation for Larry was held from 10-11 a.m., Saturday June 3. Service was held at the Oaklawn Chapel of the Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, 5000 County Rd. 46A, Sanford, Florida 32771. Interment followed at Oaklawn Park Cemetery, Lake Mary, Florida.

Michelle B. Ayers

URBANA - Michelle B. Ayers of East Steuben Street, Bath, passed away unexpectedly Thursday June 1, 2006.

She was born December 15, 1983 the daughter of George Ayers and Rita (Ortman) Ayers.

Michelle graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Law from College at Old Westbury. She worked at Tops Friendly Market in Bath. She was a member of Avoca fellowship Church. Dianne R. Ayers is Michelle's twin sister.

Michelle is survived by her parents George Ayers and Rita Ayers of Bath, twin sister Dianne Ayers of Bath, and her brother Adam Ayers of Bronx.

Calling hours were observed Tuesday June 6 from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday June 7 from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Bond-Davis Funeral Home of Bath where her Funeral Service took place Thursday June 8 at 1 p.m. with Louise Flanders officiating. Michelle's burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Nathan C. Benner

AVOCA - Nathan C. Benner, 22, of 4713 County Route 70A, went to be with the Lord on Thursday (June 1, 2006) as a result of an accident.

Born in Corning on Jan. 13, 1984, he was a son of Leon and Patricia Rau Benner, who survive.

He resided in Avoca and was presently attending Corning Community College, where he also tutored math. Nathan worked at the Pinecrest Home in Avoca and did various other odd jobs.

A very active member of the Avoca Fellowship, he was also involved with Christian youth groups and went on mission trips with Teen World Outreach to El Salvador, Guyana and Scotland.

Nathan was well loved by his family and many friends.

Besides his parents, his family includes his two sisters, Alicia and Christy Benner both at home; his brother, Matthew Benner, also at home; his maternal grandfather, Henry Rau of Long Island; his paternal grandparents, Dan and Florence Benner of Virginia; his many aunts, uncles and cousins also his special friend Annie Frank.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Helen Rau.

Calling hours were from 10 a.m.-noon and 1:30-2 p.m. Tuesday at the Avoca Baptist Church, where a funeral service was held following the calling hours at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Committal services and interment followed at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in Nathan's memory to their favorite charity.

Arrangements are with the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca.
