David R. Barie

Pavilion - Mr. David R. Barie, age 59, of Pavilion, a partner of Lor-Rob Farms died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Shands Hospital in Gainsville, Florida.

Mr. Barie was born April 12, 1944 in Batavia, NY, the son of the late Robert Barie and Lorena Hunn Barie of Pavilion.

In additon to his mother he survivied by a brother, Richard C. Barie of E. Bethany, NY, two nieces and one nephew.

David was a true friend to all associated with farming and agribusiness in this area. He was a 1966 graduate of Cornell University, a past president of the Genesee County Farm Bureau, was active in 4-H and a member and an elder of the East Bethany Presbyterian Church.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. Sundayat the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, June 23, 2003 at the East Bethany Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in East Bethany Cemetery. Memorials may be made to East Bethany Presbyterian Church or the Shands Lung Transplant Program c/o of the Barie Family.

Mrs. Margaret L. Hunt Brown

Salem - Mrs. Margaret L. Hunt Brown, age 95, of Salem, Indiana, formerly of East Bethany, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Meadowview Health Care Center in Salem.

Mrs. Hunt Brown was born May 27, 1908 in Bergen, a daughter of the late Herman and Elsie Lewis Montgomery.

She was a former member of East Bethany Presbyterian Church.

She is predeceased by her two late husbands, Harry Hunt and Frank Brown.

Mrs. Hunt Brown is survived by her son, Lewis (Betty) Hunt of Gainsville; her daughter, Althea Lavin of Salem, In; her sister, Irene Howe of Batavia; her sister-in-law, Lillian Hunt of Dale; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Stafford Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the East Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5735 Ellicott Street Road, East Bethany, NY 14054.

Mr. Robert M. Clement

Batavia - Mr. Robert M. Clement, age 93, of Batavia, an accountant with Massey-Ferguson and Trojan Industries, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mr. Clement was born September 11, 1909 in Carlton, the son of the late Milton O. and Charlotte Morton Clement.

A 1928 graduate of Batavia High School, he was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Batavia, where he was a former vestryman and served as junior warden at St. Paul´s Episcopal Church. He was a member and past master at the Batavia Lodge #475 F&AM, life member of Batavia Elks Lodge #950 and St. Nicholas Club. He was a member of the Rochester Consistory, 32nd degree and former member of the Damascus Temple Shrine.

He was a former councilman with the Town of Stafford, life member of the Stafford Fire Department and their exempts and life member of the Western New York Volunteer Firemans Association. He was a served on the Stafford Rural Cemetery´s board of trustees and was a member of the Holland Purchase Historical Society. He also was a violist with the original Genesee Symphony Orchestra.

His wife, Mary Miner Clement, died in 1981.

Surviving are his son, Robert S. (Karen Fargo) Clement of Stafford; a granddaughter, Michelle Clement; two step-granddaughters, Melissa & Kathryn Bowen and two step great-granddaughters.

There are no prior calling hours. Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 405 East Main Street, Batavia. Burial will be in Stafford Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Program at St. James Episcopal Church, 405 East Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020 or to St. Paul Episcopal Church, Main Road, Stafford, NY 14143.

Alice Canty Kenna

LeRoy - Mrs. Alice Canty Kenna, age 95, of LeRoy, formerly of Batavia, a school teacher at Batavia City Schools prior to her retirement in 1969, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Kenna was born October 19, 1907 in Batavia, a daughter of the late William Arthur and Loretta Conlon Canty.

She was a former member of St. Mary´s Church in Pavilion; received her Masters in Eduction from Buffalo State and taught for 41 years first in the Forthill School then in the Batavia City Schools. She was a member of the New York State Retired Teacher´s Association and the Ladies of Charity.

Her husband, Paul G. Kenna, died in 1971.

Surviving are two stepson, James E. (Ann) Kenna of Rochester and Michael P. Kenna of Elmyra; three stepdaughters, Sharon L. (Gerald) Landcastle of Ferndale, WA., Nancy L. (Pete) Neidrauer of Churchville and Sheila A. (Allen) Galbraith of Piffard; 12 step grandchildren, 9 step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is the sister of the late Arthur Canty, Joseph Canty, Charlotte Talone and Helen Maston.

Services will be at a time and place to be announced. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pavilion. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church of Pavilion, 11095 St. Mary's Street, Pavilion, NY 14525. Arrangements were completed by H.E. Turner & Co., Funeral Home of Batavia.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2003 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Pavilion. A Mass of Special Intentions will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church of Pavilion.

Mr. Ernest Makai

Pavilion - Mr. Ernest Makai, age 82, of Pavilion, formerly of White Plains, proprietor and owner of Haviland Tool & Die in Brewster, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility, following a short illness.

Mr. Makai was born February 23, 1921 in Sarkad, Hungary, a son of the late Janos and Susanna Bai Makai.

A resident of Pavilion for the last five years, Mr. Makai moved to the area from White Plains where he was a member of St. Matthew´s Lutheran Church.

He attended technical school in Budapest, Hungary and was a member of the Hungarian Army and a former Prisioner of War during World War II. He was captured by the Americans and while he was a prisioner of war, he had very high regard for his treatment as a prisioner, that he immigrated to the United States in 1950. He became a naturalized citizen in 1955 and was very proud to be an American Citizen.

A hardworking person, he spent much time working on projects and set an example for his children to suceed in their respective careers. He designed and built the family´s first home in White Plains. He enjoyed sculpting, traveling and had a great interest in history.

In the pursuit of his courtship of his wife, who lived in Germany, he escaped the Iron Curtain three times.

Surviving are his wife Evelyn Dallinger Makai, who he married August 23, 1948; his children, Susan Makai of Snyder, Charles (Letia) Makai of Kennett Square, Pa. and Christina (Tom) Stypulkoski of West Chester, Pa.; two brothers, Attila (Patricia) Makia of Ossining and Arpad Makai of Hungary; four grandchildren, Matthew, Luke, Corinne and Kevin and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 3 to 6 pm Friday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003 the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Western New York Chapter, 1284 French Road, Depew, NY 14043-4882.

Louise K. Will

BATAVIA - Louise K. Will, age 94, of both Batavia and Pompano Beach, Florida, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at home.

Mrs. Will was born September 4, 1908 in Batavia, NY, the daughter of the late William and Catherine Dugan Knowles. She was a member of St. Joseph´s Church and the former St. Jerome Hospital Guild. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed gradening.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Will in 1976 and a daughter, Susan Jenness in 1997.

Surviving are a son, John (Pat) Will of Batavia; four grandsons, Jim (Gail) Jenness, Mike (Kristen) Jenness, Major Pete (Rachel) Jenness and Mike Will; a granddaughter, Anna Will and 4 Great Grandchildren.

There will be no prior calling hours. Services will be held at 9:00 AM Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Elmwood Cemetery, Harvester Ave. Batavia. Memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021 or Genesee County Office for the Aging, Bank St. Batavia, NY 14020. Arrangements were completed by the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.

Mrs. Eileen F. “Grama D” Donhauser

Oakfield - Mrs. Eileen F. “Grama D” Donhauser, age 81, of Oakfield, a supervising secretary at NFT Metro in Buffalo, died Monday, September 22, 2003, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Donhauser was born May 24, 1922 in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Norman and Florence Jackson West.

She was a member of City Church in Batavia and worked at the former Curtis Wright and Fort Eustis during WWII.

She is predeceased by three husbands, John Nelson who died in 1965, Henry Gemsheim who died the same year and Raymond Donhauser who died in 1969.

Survivors include 4 children, Sandra (James) Compton of East Bethany, John (Mary) Nelson of Lewisville, Texas, Patricia (Aubrey) Beverly of Bergen and Geri (Joseph) Puma of Lakeland, Florida; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is the grandmother of 2 late grandchildren and sister of the late Jean Smock.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at City Church. Burial will be in Maplelawn Cemetery, Elba. Memorials may be made to City Church, 210 East Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020 or Genesee Cancer Assistance, Inc., 16 Bank Street, Batavia, NY 14020.

Mrs. Jean A. Geiger

Batavia - Mrs. Jean A. Geiger, age 77, of Batavia, a teacher´s aide at Pembroke Central School, died Monday, September 22, 2003, at St. Luke's Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Geiger was born June 23, 1926 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Louis M. and Audrey Gaumer Rayeur.

Mrs. Geiger was the wife of the late Paul Geiger who died in 1998 and mother of the late Deborah Geiger Atkins who died in 1979.

Survivors include three daughters; Lindsay Geiger and Karen O'Donnell both of Batavia and Michelle (Todd) Audsley of Bergen; a brother L. Michael (Marion) Rayeur of Pennsylvania; a sister, Joyce Shumway of Florida, six grandchildren; David Paul Loreto, Maureen & Carolyn O'Donnell and Madeleine, Lucas and Olivia Audsley

Mrs. Geiger was an avid reader and especially enjoyed Civil War history. She was a member of the Genesee Country Musuem and visited there frequently. Her hobbies included bird watching, gardening, antiques and loved to travel to Florida.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 pm Friday, September 26, 2003 at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. (due to the construction please use Ross St. entrance). Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Darien Center, NY. Memorials may be made to Genesee Country Museum, 1410 Flint Hill Rd., Mumford, NY 14511 or the Jackson Elementary School Library, 211 S. Jackson St., Batavia, NY 14020.

Mrs. Louise Amelia Jones

West Valley - Mrs. Louise Amelia Jones, age 75, of West Valley, a retired secretary at the law firm of Charles Wallace in Buffalo, died Saturday, September 20, 2003, at Brian Center in Powder Springs, Georgia.

Mrs. Jones was born February 12, 1928, in Geneva, New York, a daughter of the late Fred and Helen Bennett Drew.

She was a member of Randall Baptist Church in Williamson, former secretary at the Buffalo Christian Center where she sang in Christian Center Quartets for many years. She was a soloist and organist at many area churches for over 30 years.

Her husband, Harold Francis Jones died in January of 1991

Survivors include a son, Larry (Allison) Jones of Corfu; a daughter, Janet (Phillip) Powell of Kennesaw, GA; a brother Fred (Jeanne) Drew of Wildwood Fl; five grandchildren, Jessica Powell, Haley Powell, both of Kennesaw, GA and Drew W. Jones, Christopher D. Jones and Brett M. Jones all of Corfu; several nieces and nephews.

She is the brother of the late William Drew.

There are no prior calling hours. Services will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2003 at the Randall Baptist Church, 6301 Main Street, Williamsville. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Christian Center, 512 Pearl Street, Buffalo New York 14202 or Alzheimer’s Association, Western New York Chapter, 1284 French Road, Depew, New York 14043.
