Rose M. Schiavi
HERKIMER — Rose M. Schiavi, 89, of Valley Health Services, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2003, at the nursing home.
She was born June 23, 1914, in Hornell, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Falco) Miller, and was educated in Hornell schools. Rose moved to the Herkimer area in 1957.
She was married to Dominick Schiavi, who preceded her in death on October 11, 1983.
For 15 years, until her retirement, Rose was employed at Salada Foods in Little Falls. At one time she also worked at the former Melrose Slipper Co. in Little Falls.
Mrs. Schiavi was a member of the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph in Herkimer.
Family was very important to Rose. She especially enjoyed her four grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and baking.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Dockerty) Schiavi of Herkimer; two brothers, Edward Miller and wife Ella Mae of Almond and Samuel Miller and wife Ann of Binghamton; three sisters, Ann Miller, Janet Grassi and Lucy Solo and husband Francis, all of Hornell; four special grandchildren, Mark Schiavi and wife Teresa, Neil Schiavi and wife Kristen, Steve Schiavi and Ellen Ortega and husband Marco; six great grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Allysa, Annabella and Catherine Schiavi and Rafael Ortega; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son, Francis Schiavi, in 1997; and two brothers, Joseph and Anthony Miller.
In keeping with Rose's wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N.  Washington St., Herkimer. There are no calling hours. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer, will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Health Services, 690 W. German St., Herkimer, NY 13350 or to a charity of one's choice. Online memorials may be sent to the family at www.eneafuneralhomes.com.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Valley Health Services for the kindness and caring shown to Rose during the many years that she spent there.

Louis Rosen

SOUDERTON, Pa. — Mr. Louis Rosen, age 92, of Souderton, Pa., died January 2, 2004, at his daughter Charlotte's residence. He was the husband of the late Charlotte Dolores (Jankowski) Rosen.

Born in Brooklyn, he was the last surviving child of four born to the late Myer and Rachel Rosen. Mr. Rosen graduated from Thomas  Jefferson High School, Brooklyn. He was employed by the former Melrose Shoe Company of New York City and of Little Falls. In later years, he and his wife moved to Bonneville, Pa., at which time he was employed by the former Sylvania Shoe Co. After his wife died he moved to Schwenksville, Pa., where he lived until moving with his daughter, Charlotte, last month.

He was a member of the Harleysville Senior Center, Harleysville, Pa. He enjoyed making doll houses, doll furniture, golfing and travel. He is survived by five children, Rev. Cyprian Robert Rosen of Wilmington, Del., David Rosen and his wife, Marion, of Boiceville, Charlotte J. Rosen and Dan Sellers of Souderton, Pa., Louis Rosen and his wife, Lucy, of Oxford, Pa., and Richard Rosen and his wife, Marge, of Rochester; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service Tuesday, January 6, at 11:30 a.m. at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, 6677 Harleysville Pike (Rt. 113), Franconia, Pa., where friends may call from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Family will also receive friends Monday from 7-8 p.m. Interment is private. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Ave., Sellersville, Pa., 18960.

Infant Bella Polus Mosny

HERKIMER — Infant Bella Polus Mosny, beloved daughter of Mark Mosny and Heather Polus, became an angel on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her parents, Mark and Heather; a brother, Justin Michael Swieton of Herkimer; two sisters, Alexis Nicole Swieton of Herkimer and Meara Ann Mosny of Herkimer; maternal grandparents, Peter and Gail Polus of Herkimer; paternal grandparents, Daniel and Barbara Mosny of New Hartford; maternal great-grandmother, Pauline Lauer of Herkimer; paternal great-grandmother, Helen Gaworecki of Little Falls, aunts and uncles, A. Peter Polus III and wife Shaula of Herkimer, Chad Polus and wife Jennifer of Herkimer, Daniel Mosny and wife Kate of New Hartford and Michael Mosny of Boston; cousins, Zachary and Nathaniel Polus and Zachary Zaborek.

She was predeceased by her paternal great grandparents, Stanley Gaworecki and John and Christina Mosny; and maternal great grandparents, Anthony and Mary Polus and Arthur Lauer.

A graveside service with committal prayers will be held at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, with the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, officiating. The Holleran-Enea Funeral Home of Herkimer (866-1011) is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Helen Marie Callenius

MOHAWK — Helen Marie Callenius, formerly of Middle Grove, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Valley Health Services, Inc., Herkimer. She was 87.

Born on August 30, 1916, in Greenfield Center, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Wilhelmine (Endress) Callenius. She was a 1938 graduate of Albany State Teachers College with a degree in Latin, French and English and she received her master's degree from Cornell University in 1947.

She was a Latin and English teacher for 36 years, teaching in Wallkill and in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District, Westchester County, retiring in 1974.

She was an active member of the Middle Grove United Methodist Church. She was a member of the New York State and Saratoga Retired Teachers Associations and the Saratoga Hospital Guild.

Survivors include her sister, Rose Noble of Little Falls; her nieces, Carol Lenahan and her husband Peter of New Windsor and their sons, Joseph and Scott, Barbara Gentile and her husband Peter of Lockport and

their sons, Peter Jr. and Andrew, and Karen Noble of Herkimer and her daughters, Stefanie Plessas and Rebecca Noble; and her cousins, Ronald Rucker of Saratoga and Margaret (Peggy) Rheubottom of Ridgeland, MS, and their families. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth C. Smith; one nephew, Robert A. Noble; and one cousin, Margaret Rucker.

The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at the Middle Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the family plot in Middle Grove Cemetery.

The arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons / Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373 or burkefuneralhome.com).

Emileo 'Fonzie' Lorenzoni

LITTLE FALLS — Mr. Emileo "Fonzie" Lorenzoni, age 83, a lifelong resident of Little Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer.

He was born on November 29, 1920, in Little Falls, son of the late Nello and Cesira (Fenni) Lorenzoni and received his education in Little Falls schools. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having enlisted on August 10, 1942. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1946, and upon relief from active duty was the recipient of an American Theater Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. Fonzie joined in marriage with Amelia L. "Emily" Grande on November 6, 1948, at St. Anthony's Church in Herkimer with Rev. Gustav Purificato officiating. The couple had shared in a blessed union of over 45 years until the passing of Emily on July 19, 1994.

Fonzie had worked with numerous area construction companies, as he was a carpenter by trade. He had last worked full time with RIMM Construction in Herkimer. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish, along with the Carpenter's Local Union. He was also involved with the former St. Joseph's Men's Club and was a member of DeCarlo Staffo Post No. 8, Little Falls.

He is survived by his beloved family, including his son, James Lorenzoni and his wife Lisa of Little Falls; a daughter, Karen McGrail and her husband Thomas of Herkimer; two granddaughters, Maria and Emily Lorenzoni; a sister, Valerie Tooley of Little Falls; two brothers, John Lorenzoni and Rudy Lorenzoni, both of Little Falls; several nieces nephews, cousins and in-laws, Mary (Grande) Cumm of Herkimer, Claudine Grande of Herkimer and Italo Grande and wife Caroline of Little Falls.

He was predeceased by his three brothers, Albert and Joseph Lorenzoni and Frederick Lawrence; and two sisters, Jane Hayner and Angie Lorenzoni.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 20, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, and at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish Church, corner of East Main and John streets, Little Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Monday (tonight) from 5 - 8 p.m. Those wishing may consider donations in his memory to either the Holy Family Parish or to the Valley Health Services Development Fund.

The family extends their gratitude to the Valley Health Services and to the Country Manor of Herkimer for the professional care and compassion offered.
