Miss Gladys Kingdon

Stafford - Miss Gladys Kingdon, age 82, of Stafford, an assembler at the E.N. Rowell Box Factory in Batavia, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at the Unity Living Center, Rochester.

Miss Kingdon was born May 9, 1921 in Morganville, a daughter of the late Merton Kingdon and Mary Schramm Kingdon Schultz.

A lifetime resident of Stafford, Miss Kingdon was a member of the United Church of Christ in Morganville.

Miss Kingdon is survived by her brother, Harold (Shirley) Kingdon of Stafford; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was the sister of the late Merton and Mildred Kingdon and was also predeceased by her step-father, Alvin Schultz.

There are no prior calling hours. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Burial will be in Morganville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 20 Ramona St., Rochester, NY 14613.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia where services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Volunteers for Animals, Inc., 3841 West Main Street Road, P.O. Box 1621, Batavia, New York 14021.

Helen N. Britton

East Bethany - Helen N. Britton, age 93, of East Bethany, an employee of the former Genesee Memorial Hospital in Batavia for over 20 years, working in admissions and as secretary for the head nurse, died Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born September 6, 1910 in Elmvale, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of the late Alfred and Lydia VanSickel Newman.

A member of the East Bethany Presbyterian Church for over 30 years, she was a lifetime member of the Bethany Fire Department where she was instrumental in starting the first ambulance, Bethany Volunteer Ambulance, outside of the city of Batavia. She was active in the American Red Cross where she served as a state officer and was a First Aid Instructor for the county, teaching first aid to the local fire departments. She was also a member of the Glenn S. Loomis Post No. 332, American Legion, where she served as an officer.

She served with the U.S. Army from 1941-1943, working in the finance offices in Massachusetts and Michigan.

Surviving are her son, Brian (Judy) Britton of East Bethany; her daughter, Mary Britton of LeRoy; three grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Donald Britton and sister of the late Mary Black and Olive Doddemeade.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the East Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5735 Ellicott Street Road, East Bethany, where services will follow at 3 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in East Bethany Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethany Volunteer Fireman, Bethany Center Road, East Bethany, NY 14054, American Red Cross, 220 East Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020, or East Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5735 Ellicott Street Road, East Bethany, NY 14054. Arrangements were completed by the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia.

Mrs. Nancy M. Goff

Batavia - Mrs. Nancy M. Goff, age 90, of Batavia, formerly of Hamlin, an employee of General Motors in Rochester for over 20 years, died Monday, August 4, 2003, at the Batavia Nursing Home.

Mrs. Goff was born February 26, 1913 in Albion, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Christopher.

Mrs. Goff enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and was an avid bowler.

Her husband, Donald E. Goff, died February 21, 2002.

Surviving are her son, Stuart (Marcia) Goff of Hamlin; two brothers, Frank (late Ruth) Christopher and Alfred (Betty) Christopher, both of Albion; a granddaughter, Heather Goff of Hamlin; several nieces and nephews including Gene (Judy) Christopher of Albion and several cousins.

She was the grandmother of the late Patrick D. Goff and was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

There are no prior calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Cemetery followed by a memorial mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Following the mass all are invited to a luncheon at ?. Memorials may be made to the Batavia Nursing Home, 257 State Street, Batavia, New York, 14020

Mrs. Trula E. Welsh

Batavia – Mrs. Trula E. Welsh, age 91, of Batavia, a waitress at the former Young´s Restaurant in Batavia, died Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Welsh was born November 4, 1911 in Bluefield, WV, a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. S.P White.

She is predeceased by her husband, Albert Jacob Welsh,

Survivors include a son, Albert Jacob (Rita) Welsh Jr. of Arizona; two sisters, Cleo Hall and Ethel White of Florida; five grandchildren, Yvonne M. (Kim) Wolcott of Batavia, Christopher D. Welsh of Arizona, Patricia E. (Frank) Bellucci and Rebecca L. (Scott) Kelley, both of Batavia, and Brian D. (Amy) Welsh of Attica; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 10 to 12 p.m. Friday at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will follow at 12:15 p.m. Friday, at Elmwood Cemetery, Harvester Avenue Gate. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mr. Timothy H. Stephens

Batavia - Mr. Timothy H. Stephens, age 43, of Batavia, an employee with the New York State School For The Blind in Batavia for 22 years, died Monday, September 8, 2003.

Mr. Stephens was born April 22, 1960 in Hornell, NY, a son of the late Lyla Mullen Stephens and Conner Stephens of Alfred Station.

Surviving along with his father are two sons, Timothy Stephens who is stationed with the U.S. Navy at Norfolk, VA. and David Stephens of Batavia; a daughter, Taryn Stephens of Pavilion; a brother, Jeffrey (Lois) Stephens of Alfred Station; three sisters, Diane Stephens of Alfred, Susan (Steve) Spangler of Sarasota, Fla. and Nancy (Robert) McCabe of Rochester; five nieces and nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Alfred. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 20 Ramona St., Rochester, NY 14613.

Helen E. Rugala

Batavia - Helen E. Rugala, age 76, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, her home while under the care of HomeCare and Hospice.

Mrs. Rugala was born July 6, 1927 in Batavia, the daughter of the late John and Margaret Vellman Tamila.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Altar and Rosary Society of the Church and the Bishop´s Committee. Mrs. Rugala was an election inspector for many years and was employed at the former Lawing Studio as a photograph painter. She enjoyed various outdoor activities and the arts.

Mrs. Rugala was predeceased by her husband, Frank in 1990; a son, James J. in 1991 and brothers Walter and Chester Tamila and sisters, Mary Swaciak and Sophie Bishop.

She is survived by four daughters, Kathryn (Arne) Zipkin of Batavia, Stephanie (Alan) Reinhardt of Connecticut, Paula (Joel) Doyle of Rochester, Frances Lasky of Batavia; 2 sisters, Genevieve Argulski of Batavia and Antoinette (Robert) Bishop of Buffalo; 7 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 Monday, August 18th, at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 18, 2003 at Sacred Heart Church followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Batavia. Memorials may be made to Home Care & Hospice, 550 E. Main St. Batavia, NY 14020.

Mr. Richard H. Rowcliffe

Batavia - Mr. Richard H. Rowcliffe, age 85, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003, at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Rowcliffe was born July 13, 1918 in Elba, NY, the son of the late Clarence and Hattie Snyder Rowcliffe.

Mr. Rowcliffe retired in 1981 after having been employed as a bus driver for Empire Trailways for over 40 years. He enjoyed camping and outdoor activities. A veteran, he served with the Army in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Cudney Rowcliffe, whom he married March 28, 1964; a daughter, Gwendolyn Johnson of Attica; three sisters, Alberta (Ross) Caldwell and Alice (Alfred) Hyde both of the state of Alabama and Marlene (Paul) Cerefin of Batavia; a sister-in-law, June Rowcliffe of Elba; 4 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Howard Rowcliffe, great grandfather of the late Rebecca and father-in-law of the late LaVerne Johnson.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba, NY. Memorials may be made to family to be distributed to various charities.

Mrs. Rita C. Rogers

Bergen - Mrs. Rita C. Rogers, age 87, of Bergen, died Friday, November 21, 2003, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Rogers was born October 26, 1916 in Rochester.

Her husband, Walter C. Rogers, died December 23, 1990.

Survivors include four children, Richard Rogers, Audrey Rogers and Cheryl Rogers, all of Batavia and Kevin Rogers of Bergen; 4 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There are no prior calling hours. Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 20 Ramona St., Rochester, NY 14613 or Leukemia Society Of America, Inc., 5500 Main Street, Williamsville, NY 14221. Arrangements were completed by H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home of Bergen.

Mrs. Helyn Rodon

Fairport - Mrs. Helyn Rodon, age 87, of Fairport, formerly of Batavia, a floor-person at Hickey Freeman Co., in Rochester for over 25 years before her retirement in 1980, died Thursday, September 25, 2003, at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

Mrs. Rodon was born October 12, 1915 in Perry, NY, a daughter of the late Vincent and Sophie Golomb Kusmisz.

She was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Batavia and Mother of Sorrows Church in Rochester.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph F. Rodon whom she married May 16, 1936; two sons, Robert Rodon of New Hampshire and Thomas (Virginia) Rodon of Rochester; a daughter, Elaine (Michael) Davin of Rochester; a sister, Virginia Derefinko of Batavia; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is the sister of the late Lawrence Kusmisz and Jean Janiak.

There are no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church, Batavia. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 462 Evans Street, Williamsville, NY 14221. Arrangements were completed by H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home of Batavia.

Mabel F. Campbell

Warsaw - Mrs. Mabel F. Campbell, 94, of Warsaw, who worked at P.W. Minor Shoe Factory in Batavia, died Monday, (June 30, 2008) at Wyoming County Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Campbell was born May 24, 1914 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Weick) Neth.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Mrs. Campbell was also a member of the Golden Agers in Warsaw and enjoyed bingo and putting together puzzles.

Survivors include three sons, Paul (Patricia) Campbell of Gainesville, Douglas (Sharon) Campbell of Wyoming and Michael (Ann) Campbell of Pavilion; four daughters, Virginia (Louis) Gayton of Batavia, Marilyn (Jerold) Rider of Wyoming, Henrietta (Jim) Martin of Florida and Bonny (Clarence) Winspear of North Carolina; a sister, Patricia Scalia of Arizona; 31 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Her husband, Henry R. Campbell died in 1976. She is the mother of the late Patrick Campbell and sister of the late Charles, Albert, Joseph and Robert Neth, Catherine Thompson, Anna Bass and Mary Brownell.

Calling hours are Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Ellicott Street Road, East Bethany, on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 315 Alberta Drive, Amherst, New York 14226, Homecare & Hospice, 550 East Main Street, Batavia, New York 14020 or Immaculate Conception Church.
