William A. Cecere

Batavia - Mr. William A. Cecere, 79, of Batavia, died peacefully Saturday (April 12, 2008) after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He had resided for more than two years at the NYS Veterans’ Home in Batavia.

He was born November 23, 1928 in Batavia, a son of the late Anthony and Anna Pulvino Cecere.

Mr. Cecere was a lifelong resident of Batavia and member of St. Anthony's Church. He retired from Doehler-Jarvis after 34 years. He served in the Navy during the Korean War, on the battleship USS Iowa. Mr. Cecere is a member of the Batavia High School Sports Hall of Fame for his achievements in football and track, a member of the '47 Club and an Eagle Scout.

Later, Mr. Cecere used his love for sports as a coach for Pop Warner football, always remembering and being remembered for his players. Other interests included hunting, fishing, nature hikes, photography, volunteering at the Holland Land Office, handball and crafting walking sticks from young sapling trees for which he was interviewed and highlighted in the Batavia Daily News. Also, using his knowledge in football and photography, he filmed the football games for Notre Dame for many years. Although he was an amateur artist, he painted many still lifes and animal paintings for family and friends.

Mr. Cecere would have celebrated his 80th birthday and their 60th anniversary in November of this year.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary A. Vendetta Cecere; two sons, Robert (Debra) Cecere of Victor and Jerome (Joan) Cecere of Lexington, Ky.; four grandchildren, Dr. Dina (Dr. Mark) Dosch of Pa., Pamela Cecere of Az., Jessica (Chris) Sutton and Joshua Cecere; proud great-grandfather to four; his brother, Richard (Helen) Cecere of Alexander and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was the brother of the late Adeline Cecere.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Anthony's Church, 122 Liberty Street, Batavia. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Mausoleum, Batavia. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Church, 122 Liberty Street, Batavia, NY 14020

Jeanette M. Baiocco

Batavia - Mrs. Jeanette M. Baiocco, age 87, of Batavia, retired secretary for the Genesee County Department of Social Services in Batavia, died Monday, April 7, 2008 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Baiocco was born September 22, 1920 in Oakfield, the daughter of the late Louis and Emma Ianni Santelli.

Mrs. Baiocco was a member of St. Anthony's Church. She enjoyed traveling, bowling and playing cards. A New York Yankee baseball fan, Mrs. Baiocco will be remembered as a great mom who loved her grandkids.

Her husband, Louis Baiocco died March 11, 1954.

Survivors include two sons, John (Serena) Baiocco and Robert L. Baiocco, both of Batavia; five grandchildren, Cheryle (Jon) Miller of Tennessee, Deborah (Ken) Cartwright of Perry, John (Joann) Baiocco of Batavia, Robert J. Baiocco and Nicole Baiocco, both of Oregon; twelve great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Church, 122 Liberty Street, Batavia. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to distribute to various charities.

Mrs. Mildred Irene Weaver

Batavia - Mrs. Mildred Irene Weaver, 86, of Batavia, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the Genesee County Nursing Home, Batavia.

Mrs. Weaver was born May 6, 1921 in Mill Creek, Pa., a daughter of the late David Adison and Wilda Idessa Cotterman Stahlman.

A member of the Salvation Army since her childhood, Mrs. Weaver loved gardening, baking and spending time outdoors. She will be remembered as a dedicated volunteer, always being the first to offer help to those who needed it most. She was family oriented, devoted to her family, especially to her grandchildren.

Her husband, Harry S. Weaver died December 27, 1996.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Weaver of East Bethany and David Clark (Jill) Weaver of Atlanta, Ill.; a daughter, Deborah (Kyle) Rice of East Bethany; two sisters, Marie Scheimeister of North Tonawanda and Myrtle Murphy of Houston, Texas; also surviving are David Michael Weaver of Stafford, a grandson she raised along with five other grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Samuel E. Weaver who died in 1980 and sister of the late Raymond and Lloyd Stahlman and niece of the late Jennie (Alvie) Weaver.

Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, East Bethany. Memorials may be made to the Genesee County Nursing Home, 278 Bank Street, Batavia, New York 14020 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western New York Chapter, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Suite 6, Williamsville, New York 14221-7380.

Elmer W. Taggart

Batavia - Elmer W. Taggart, 75, of Batavia, a retired truck driver and foreman at B. R. Dewitt Inc./Genesee-LeRoy Stone in LeRoy, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mr. Taggart was born September 5, 1931 in Batavia, a son of the late Fred and Eleanor (Guard) Taggart.

He enjoyed flee markets and fixing and selling bicycles and lawn mowers.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Grace M. (Kingsley) Taggart whom he married October 9, 1949; three brothers, Fred (Elsie) Taggart of Batavia, Harold Taggart and Dennison (Carol) Taggart, both of Pennsylvania ; a sister, Eleanor (Mike) Domico of Rochester; several nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Elmer W. Taggart, Jr. who died in 1951.

Friends may call on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at H. E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Volunteers For Animals, P.O. Box 1621, Batavia, New York 14021. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia.

Mrs. Joann P. Smith

Stafford - Mrs. Joann P. Smith, 69, of Stafford, who worked in the production department at Bach Industries in LeRoy, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mrs. Smith was born March 10, 1938 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Edward Sinclair and Nellie Ivison Kerruish.

A lover of cats, she was a member of South Byron United Methodist Church and a member of the Cushman Club of Western New York. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, cooking and enjoyed going to Curves in LeRoy.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard D. Smith; her son, Michael Richard Smith of Trenton, Fla.; her daughter, Shelley Marie Gillman of LeRoy; her sister, Helen Scott of Benzonia, Mi.; her sister-in-law, Carol (Guy) Young of Batavia; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was the sister-in-law of the late Clarence Scott.

There are no prior calling hours. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at South Byron United Methodist Church, 7526 Byron Stafford Road, South Byron. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery. Memorials may be made to South Byron United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 135, South Byron, New York 14557 or Volunteers for Animals, P.O. Box 1621, Batavia, New York 14021.

Keith W. Sheron

Batavia - Mr. Keith W. Sheron, 53, of Batavia, a purchasing manager at Graham Manufacturing Co. for 27 years, died Tuesday, (April 10, 2007) at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Sheron was born July 23, 1953 in Niagara Falls, New York a son of Joan Tyree Sheron of Batavia and the late William A. Sheron Sr.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church. Mr. Sheron was a "Jack of all trades" and had a strong interest in trivia and current events. He accomplished the title of certified purchasing manager.

Surviving along with his mother are his wife Marilyn Sheron, of Batavia; one daughter, Maria C. Sheron of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one brother, William A. (Shari) Sheron Jr. of Batavia; two sisters, Mona E. (Richard) Logar of Medford, New Jersey and Molly A. Sheron of Batavia; an aunt, Betty Rheagan of Niagara Falls, New York; ten nieces and nephews, one great-niece, one great-nephew, and several cousins.

There are no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be distributed to various charities. Burial will be in St. Joseph 's Cemetery.

Beatrice I. Good

Alexander - Mrs. Beatrice I. Good, 99, of Alexander, died Monday, (May 7, 2007) at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Good was born September 6, 1907 in Geneseo, a daughter of the late Wesley and Mabel (Moffet) Sprague.

She was a member of Alexander United Methodist Church, where she was active with the Happy Agers and the Golden Reapers.

Her husband, Raymond Good died June 4, 1991.

Survivors include three sons, Richard (Alice) Good of Hurst, Texas, Gerald (Charlene) Good and Larry (Susan) Good, both of Alexander; two daughters, Janet Radley of Pavilion and Anita (Carlton) Wight of Byron; a brother, Wesley Sprague of Cheektowaga; a sister-in-law, Pauline Sprague, of Batavia; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews.

She is predeceased by a daughter, Judy Good, a great-great-grandson, Jacob Good and is the sister of the late Gladys Hillabush, Barbara Snell, Winifred Davis, Evelyn Hillabush, Bernice Sprague and James Sprague.

Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Alexander United Methodist Church, 10540 Main Street, Alexander. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Alexander. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alexander United Methodist Church, attn: Happy Agers.

Mr. Anthony N. Barrese, Sr.

Batavia - Mr. Anthony N. Barrese, Sr., 83, of Batavia, an employee of New York Central Railroad in Batavia for over 30 years died Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia.

Mr. Barrese was born October 2, 1923 in Genoa, Italy, the son of the late Christopher and Grace (Copani) Barrese.

A member of St. Anthony's Church, Mr. Barrese was a member of St. Nicholas Club and enjoyed spending time at Off Track Betting at Batavia Downs.

His wife, Agnes P.(Barrese) Barrese died July 22, 1998.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony N. Jr. (Sally) Barrese of Texas and Christopher Barrese of Italy; a daughter, Grace (Greg) West of Batavia; two grandchildren, Melissa West and Gregory (Leslie Robinson) West, both of Batavia, a great-grandson, Anthony Rocco West and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. Prayers at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church, 122 Liberty Street, Batavia. Burial will be in St. Joseph 's Cemetery, Batavia. Memorials may be made to Activities Fund at the Genesee County Nursing Home, 278 Bank Street, Batavia, New York 14020.

Mrs. Rowena K. Wood

Batavia - Mrs. Rowena K. Wood, 92, of Batavia, a dental hygienist for all of the Batavia Schools, both public and parochial, died Friday, January 19, 2007 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility, in LeRoy.

Mrs. Wood was born July 16, 1914 in Churchville, a daughter of the late Emerson and Irene (Smith) Kendall.

She had also worked in the dental office of Dr. Stickney.

Her husband, George S. Wood died in 1977.

Survivors include three sons, George E. Wood of Batavia, Denniston K. Wood of Batavia, and Charles M. (Teresa) Wood of Churchville; a daughter, Rowena J. (James) Wood of Monterey, California; four grandchildren, Stacey (Robert) Stephens of San Jose, CA, Steven Klinge of Monterey, CA, Peter Wood of Canandaigua and Charles Wood of Churchville; a step-grandchild, Madeline Kowalik-Bova of Churchville; 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was the youngest of six deceased brothers & sisters.

There are no prior calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audobon Parkway West, Amherst, NY, 14228. Arrangements were completed by Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.
