Lois J. Scoins Dusen

Batavia - Mrs. Lois J. Scoins Dusen, 98, a former employee at the E.N. Rowell Box Factory in Batavia, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Dusen was born July 1, 1912 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Raymond and Isabell Davis Scoins.

A member of Oakfield United Methodist Church for over 65 years, Mrs. Dusen was an avid Batavia Muckdogs and New York Yankees baseball fan.

She was the wife of the late Lloyd F. Dusen, who died in 1983 and sister of the late LaVerne and John Scoins.

Survivors include one son, Norman E. (Marilyn L.) Dusen of East Pembroke; one daughter, Elaine (Anthony) Barniak of Byron; four grandchildren, Lynda Dusen, Timothy Dusen, David (Lisa) Barniak and Wendy (Greg) Boetcher; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Pimm, Jessica Boetcher, William Barniak, Jennifer Boetcher, and Samantha Barniak. Also surviving are nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 E. Main St., Batavia, NY. Services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Oakfield United Methodist Church, 2 South Main Street, Oakfield, NY 14125. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery.

Dorothy Ferguson

Byron - Mrs. Dorothy Ferguson, 82, of Byron, died Thursday, (June 9, 2011) at Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport.

Mrs. Ferguson was born May 28, 1929 in Brockport, a daughter of the late Wallace and Rose (Hovey) Sparks.

She was a member of the North Bergen Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Allan Ferguson of Byron; four children, Roxanne (Daniel) Webster of Bradenton, Florida, Kathy (Joe) Spataro of Pavilion, Craig Ferguson of Byron and Linda (Bernie Ruggeri) Ferguson of Holley; two brothers, Donald (Betty) Sparks of Clarendon and Gilbert Sparks of Rochester; a sister, Carol Morgott of Holley; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is a sister of the late Bruce Sparks.

Calling hours are Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the North Bergen Presbyterian Church, 7068 North Bergen Road, Bergen. Burial will be in North Byron Cemetery, Byron. Memorials may be made to the North Bergen Presbyterian Church.

Elizabeth Ford

Batavia - Elizabeth Ford, 43, of Batavia, died Sunday, (May 8, 2011) at her home.

She was born December 25, 1967 in Rochester, the daughter of Lonnie Ford Jr. and Annie Josie (Armstrong) Ford, both of Batavia.

A very intelligent woman, she loved to smile, was outgoing and also enjoyed art. She was devoted to her family, loved her brothers and was daddy's girl.

Surviving along with her parents are her brother, Lonnie (Maria) Ford III of Batavia; a niece, Ivena Ford of Buffalo and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is predeceased by her brother, Eddie James Ford.

Calling hours are Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m. at Discovery Chapel, 315 West Main Street, Batavia, where services will be at 12:30, also on Friday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia. Memorials may be made to Prayer Room, 39 North Lyon Street, Batavia, New York 14020.

Vincent J. Latona

Stafford - Vincent J. Latona, 62, of Stafford, died suddenly Friday, May 20, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Latona was born December 8, 1948 in Buffalo, a son of Joseph J. and the late Annette L. (Shearer) Latona.

He was a long time member, and past president of the Road Agents Motorcycle Club. He had a love for cars, music, animals, and motorcycles; especially Harley Davidson. He enjoyed collecting many different types of things. Mr. Latona will be remembered by his family as having a real soft spot in his heart, and a genuine like for the more beautiful things in nature.

Surviving along with his father are seven siblings, JoAnne (Jim) Gettings of Fredonia, Charles (Kathy) Latona of Passadena, MD, Lisa (Robert) Schroeder of Kissimmee, FL, Annette Gibson of Moultrie, GA, Judy (William) Czarnecki of Dunkirk, Tricia (Michael) Filipello of Canandaigua, and Mary Lou (late Bernard) Bilie of Fredonia. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends also survive.

Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where a memorial service will immediately follow calling hours at 7. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Roger Bruce Fargo

Philadelphia - Roger Bruce Fargo, 72, of Philadelphia, a statistical analyst at Bell Atlantic in Philadelphia for 30 years, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 while visiting family in Rochester.

Mr. Fargo was born July 17, 1938 in Rochester, the son of the late Cyrus Lewis and Mildred (Mathes) Fargo.

He served with the National Guard in the early 1960’s as a border guard in Texas. He was a member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Broomall, PA, was a member of the Batavia High School Class of 1956, received his BA from Ohio Wesleyan University, a Master’s Degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and was studying for his Doctorate at Temple University. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi. While in the area, he was a Boy Scout with Troop 76 in Batavia and later was active with the "Open Door Mission". He was a world traveler and missionary to Asia in 2003 and 2008, an avid World Cup Soccer Fan and active in the Republican Party.

Survivors include 4 children, Automn (John Shepard) Fargo of Rochester, Barbara Fargo of Wellston, OH, Craig Fargo of Apopka, FL and Deborah A. (Kevin) Williams of Honeoye Falls; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia. . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Batavia YMCA Camp Hough on Silver Lake, 4163 W. Lake Rd., Silver Springs, NY 14550-9752. Arrangements were completed by H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home of Batavia.

Willie L. McGill Sr.

Elba - Mr. Willie L. McGill Sr., 82, of Elba and most recently a resident at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home, died Wednesday, (December 15, 2010) at the Buffalo General Hospital.

Mr. McGill was born April 18, 1928 in Rhine, Georgia, a son of the late Willie and Minnie Mae (Johnson) McGill.

Mr. McGill was a machinist at Doehler Jarvis and also drove refuge truck for the ARC. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elba and enjoyed reading his Bible. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a sports fan, especially of the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills. Mr. McGill loved life and his family and friends.

Survivors include his children, Hazel Walker of Lockport, Willie McGill Jr. of Elba, Marcus (Cindy) McGill of Hemlock, Dorsie (Melissia) McGill of Batavia and Robert (Penny) McGill of Churchville; a brother, Gary (Ann) McGill of Georgia; a sister, Elain (Joseph) Manning of Georgia; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His wife, Orgia McGill died in 2004. He is also predeceased by his brothers and sisters and is the father-in-law of the late Ruth Ann McGill and Robert Walker.

Calling hours are Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Elba, 31 South Main Street, Elba. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Elba, 31 South Main Street, Elba, N.Y. 14058.

George A. Sanders

Oakfield - Mr. George A. Sanders, 89, of Oakfield, died Tuesday, (November 30, 2010) at the Buffalo V.A. Medical Center.

Mr. Sanders was born July 3, 1921 in Oramel, New York, a son of the late George and Ina (Clark) Sanders.

A veteran, he served with the United States Army and was the owner of the Sanders Sawmill in Oakfield. Mr. Sanders enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved his dog, Patty. He was a member of the NRA, American Legion in Alabama, Oakfield Historical Society and the Oakfield Fire Department. Mr. Sanders was also a member and past president of the Oakfield Rod and Gun Club and was a past zoning officer for the Town of Oakfield.

Survivors include his companion of 20 years, Arlene Steele of Oakfield and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

His wife, Laura Sanders passed away in 1986. Mr. Sanders is also predeceased by his brothers and sisters.

Calling hours are Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. Services will be at 11:00 Monday at the Oakfield United Methodist Church, 2 South Main Street, Oakfield. Burial will be in Cary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oakfield United Methodist Church, 2 South Main Street, Oakfield, N.Y. 14125 or Buffalo VA Medical Center, attn: Hospice Department, 3495 Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, N.Y. 14215.

Miss Irene (Jaszko) Jatczynski

Oakfield - Miss Irene (Jaszko) Jatczynski, 67, of Oakfield, died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Miss Jatczynski was born April 25, 1943 in Mayfield, Ohio, a daughter of the late Joseph F. and Marie C. (Sterpka) Jatczynski.

Survivors include 3 brothers, Sam (Jeanette) Jatczynski of Colorado, Joseph (Nancy) Jaszko of Batavia and John (Barb) Jaszko of Basom; 3 sisters, Rosemary Mengs of Florida, Yvonne (James) Welker of Attica and Susan (Gerald) Williams of Middleport; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Frank Jatzynski and Margaret Jatzynski.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be hald at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecilia's Worship Site, 56 Maple Ave., Oakfield. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to ARC of Genesee County, 64 Walnut Street, Batavia, NY 14020 to benefit the ICF in Oakfield. Burial will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Oakfield.

Mrs. Juanita Peck Hyde

Batavia - Mrs. Juanita Peck Hyde, 71, of Batavia, a secretary at Jackson School in Batavia, until her retirement in 1999, died Thursday, December 2, 2010 at her residence, in Batavia.

Mrs. Hyde was born May 12, 1939 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Tyler and Helen (Little) Peck.

She was a lifetime member of the Batavia First United Methodist Church. She formerly worked at John Kennedy School, Genesee County Health Department, Kozak and J.C. Penny. She enjoyed reading and was described as a very loving person, friendly, engaging and loved children. She was an avid conversationalist.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph G. Hyde, whom she married February 14, 1959; 2 sons, Kevin (Sandra) Hyde of Beaver Creek, Ohio and Steven (JoAnn) Hyde of Batavia; a grandson, Robert Hyde of Batavia and a granddaughter, Carissa Hyde of Batavia.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 8221 Lewiston Rd., Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021. Burial will be in West Bethany Cemetery.

Frank R. Gallaway

Oakfield - Mr. Frank R. Gallaway, 82, of Oakfield, a Plant Manager for Comstock Foods in Oakfield prior to his retirement in 1992, died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia after being stricken at his home.

Mr. Gallaway was born January 7, 1928 in Dunkirk, a son of the late Frank A. and Irene (Olrogge) Gallaway.

He was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish (St. Cecelia’s Church) since 1972, where he served as grounds keeper and cemetery caretaker. He was the founder and present leader of the Merrymen Crew. A 1947 graduate of North Collens High School, he was a former member of the North Collins Fire Department, N. Collins School Board, and Rotary Club. After moving to Oakfield, he joined the Lions Club where he was a member for over 35 years, Oakfield Fire Department, active in Oakfield Little League, Town of Oakfield Board, Genesee County Planning Board, and served as liaison on projects between the Town and Village of Oakfield. He was the project manager for remodeling of the Oakfield Presbyterian Church and St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecelia's Worship site, the Catholic church in Darien and was instrumental in the reconstruction of the North Collins School House #8.

He had a personal connection with Santa Clause.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Zulawski) Gallaway, whom he married August 4, 1951; 2 daughters, Judy (Tom) Leaton of Liverpool and Debbie (Jerry) Armbruster of Oakfield; a son, Patrick (Kathy) Gallaway of Pembroke; 12 grandchildren, Brian (Laura) Leaton, Ellen (Jeffrey) Hoppe and Brenda (Tom) Bray, all of Liverpool, Natalie (James) Emerson and Chad (Sonja) Armbrewster, both of Oakfield, Jeannine Armbrewster of Batavia, Sara (Clifton) Johnson of TX, Jason Gallaway, James Morford, Adam Gallaway, Megan Gallaway and Collin Gallaway, all of Pembroke; and granddog, Oscar; 10 great-grandchildren, Jack, Graham, Benjamin, Aubrey, Kali, Gaige, Gavin, Owen, Emma and Alex; 2 brothers, Richard (Betty) Gallaway of VA and Dean (Marge) Gallaway of Langford; 3 sisters, Barbara Boyle of FL, Donna Frank of West Valley and Sandy (Bob) Kaczmarek of Brant; 2 brothers-in-law, 1 sister-in-law, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Saabye.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where prayers at 9:30 a.m. Monday will be followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecelia’s Worship Site. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to School House #8 Historical Center, 2101 School St., North Collins, NY 14111 or to St. Padre Pio Parish, 56 Maple Ave., Oakfield, NY 14125. Burial will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Oakfield.
