Mr. Robert H. Bentley, Jr.

Richmond, Virginia - Robert H. Bentley, Jr. passed Thursday, September 16, 2010 in Richmond, Virignia surrounded by loved ones.

Robert was born in Santa Barbara, California on October 15, 1945 and lived many places around the world before finding a home in Bergen. He found great joy in the company of family and will be missed dearly by all.

Robert is survivied by his four children; Teresa Schroder of Waterloo, James Boughton of Atlanta, Georgia, Robert Bentley, III of Richmond, Virginia and Philip Bentley of Washington, D.C.; his sister, Barbara Hall of Durango, Colorado; his step-mother, Virginia Bentley of Canandaigua and four grandchildren, Melissa, Genevieve, Alysia and James.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen.

Fredrick A. Bentley, Jr.

Pavilion - Mr. Fredrick A. Bentley, Jr., 62, of Pavilion, a self-employed contractor for 25 years, died suddenly Monday, March 19, 2012.

Mr. Bentley was born September 25, 1949 in Batavia, the son of the late Fredrick A. Sr. and Lois Robey Bentley.

A graduate of Pavilion High School and a member of the Covington Presbyterian Church, he enjoyed camping, four-wheeling and cooking, especially making his own chicken barbeques. He will be remembered as an outgoing person with an infectious laugh who loved being around people. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, friends and holidays. He served during the Vietnam War with the Marine Corps.

His wife, Kathleen Sileski Bentley, died in 1997.

Surviving are his significant other, Kathy Johnson of Pavilion; two sons, Charles Anzalone of Pavilion and John Anzalone of LeRoy; a daughter, Amber (Josh) Hutchings of Batavia; three sisters, Jesse (Jim) Parker of Georgian, Jenny (Bill) Johnson of Florida and Elizabeth Bentley-Huber of Corfu; eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5735 Ellicott Street Road, Bethany. His funeral services will immediately follow calling hours at 2 p.m. at church. Please consider memorials to the Covington Presbyterian Church, 1701 Craig Road, Pavilion, New York 14524. Burial, with full military honors, will be in East Bethany Cemetery, Bethany.

Mrs. Gladys Balch Alexander

Churchville - Mrs. Gladys Balch Alexander, 84, of Churchville, formerly of Bergen, an employee of Roberts Wesleyan College for 17 years prior to her retirement in 1988, entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at her home, in Churchville.

Mrs. Alexander was born December 18, 1925 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Laura Ruth (Kress) Balch.

She was a member of Pearce Memorial Church for over 55 years.

Her husband, David E. Alexander, died September 20, 2004.

Survivors include 5 sons, David D. (Barbara) Alexander of S. Carolina, K. Scott (Margaret) Alexander of California, B. Bradley Alexander of Brockport, B. Todd Alexander of New Jersey, L. Lance (Kathleen) Alexander of Churchville, a daughter, Ruth A. (Mark) Logan of Churchville; a sister-in-law, Pat Balch of Florida, Kathyrn Alexander of Gerry and Lucille Alexander of Perry; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Benson R. Balch and Kenneth Balch.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at H.E Turner & Co., Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pearce Memorial Church. Memorials may be made to Pearce Memorial Church, 4322 Buffalo Rd, North Chili, NY 14514 or to Aurora House, P.O. Box 21, Spencerport, NY 14559. Burial will be in North Chili Rural Cemetery.

Fred J. Allein

Batavia - Fred J. Allein, 88, of Batavia, a retired Master Sergeant of the US Air Force and retired Director of the Emergency Management Services, Disaster Preparedness, died unexpectedly Friday, October 15, 2010 at New York State Veteran's Home, in Batavia.

Mr. Allein was born November 24, 1921 in Buffalo, the son of the late Joseph and Helen Allein.

In January of 1942, Mr. Allein enlisted in the Army Air Force. Overseas assignments followed in June of 1942 and he was shipped to Port Tufie, Egypt. He became one of the first Americans in Africa in support of the British Eighth Army, being assigned to the British 376th “Hell” Bomb Squadron. He then spent a year in Italy and returned to the US in 1944. In February of 1953 he was recalled to active duty. In November of 1953 he was ordered to Germany, where he spent 5 years and then to Alaska. He eventually retired from the US Air Force while stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base, SAC, on August 31, 1967.

He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, former member of Stafford Country Club, Batavia Country Club, BPO Elks, LOOM, Polish Falcons, Godfrey’s Pond and St. Nick’s Club. Mr. Allein belonged to the American Legion where he served as Commander and was a member of the VFW. He especially enjoyed playing cards.

Surviving is his wife, Gloria Athoe Allein whom he married December 17, 1944. He was grandfather of the late Richard Whitcombe who died in 2006 and brother of the late Shirley Jahries.

Also surviving are one son, James (Cheryl) Allein of Attica; two daughters, Gloria (Robert) Chapman of Byron and Pamela (David) Whitcombe of Batavia and one sister, Joan Summers of Rochester. He was the loving grandfather of Brent Chapman, Robert Chapman, Rebecca (Matthew) Roggow, Jeffrey (Shannon) Whitcombe, Ryan Whitcombe, Abby Allein, Alyssa Allein and Braden Allein; great-grandfather of Jared and Jacob Roggow, Kaelin Chapman, Andrew, Noah and Cora Whitcombe. Also surviving are a granddaughter-in-law, Rebecca Whitcombe and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday from 3:30 to 7:30 pm at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia, NY. Services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Ave., Batavia. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Ave., Batavia, NY 14020 or the Alzheimers Association, 2805 Wehrle Dr. Ste. 6, Williamsville, NY 14221-7380. Burial with full military honors will be in Grand View Cemetery.

Robert B. Bower

Bethany - Robert B. Bower, 82, of Bethany, a Rural Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in East Bethany, retiring in 1990 from the Post Office in Darien, died Monday, September 27, 2010 at his home, while under Homecare and Hospice.

Mr. Bower was born May 30, 1928 in Batavia, NY, a son of the late Fred and Belle (Bissell) Bower.

He was a 57 year member of the East Bethany Presbyterian Church and known aroung Bethany as "The Candy Man" as he was a great candymaker. He was a deputy Tax Collector for 44 years in the Town of Bethany, a life member and past Fire Chief, serving for 54 year with the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department, former board member and past president of the Genesee County Mutual Aid Advisory Board, member of the Western New York Firemen's Association, historian and member of the Rural Carriers Association and past secretary of the Genesee County Rural Letter Carries Association.

He served with the Marine Corps during World War II on the Island of Guam for two years. He was called back to active duty during the Korean War and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Hansen Brothers Marine Corps League Detachment #95, life member of the Veness - Strollo Post 1602 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Glenn S. Loomis Post #332 American Legion, where he also served as Chaplain.

He is survived by his wife, Norma (Phillips) Bower whom he married on March 21, 1953; 5 children, Robert (Susan) Bower of Rush, Kathleen (Rev. Edwin) Blair of VA, Douglas L. (Dawn) Bower of Albion, Calvin (Ruth) Bower of Canadice and Daniel (Anne) Bower of Tupper Lake; 3 brothers, Donald (Audrey) Bower of N.C., David Bower of Port Leyden and Paul (Judy) Bower of Bergen; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is the brother of the late Dorothy Zipfel and Ruth Brown.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at East Bethany Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5735 Ellicott Street Road, East Bethany, NY 14054 or to Bethany Volunteer Fire Department, 5253 Old Telephone Road, East Bethany, NY 14054. Burial will be in East Bethany Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Ann Caito

Batavia - Mrs. Mary Ann Caito, 73, the retired office manager for Washington Towers, died suddenly, Thursday, September 23, 2010 at home.

Mrs. Caito was born December 8, 1936 in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Francis and Rose Matla.

She was a member of Resurrection Parish where she currently served on the Parish Council and was a former trustee of St. Mary’s Church. She belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, St. Joseph Sodality and the Batavia Garden Club. A member of the UMMC League she served as its' Treasurer for over 40 years and also volunteered with the Girl Scouts.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Paul Caito in 1960 and A. Edward Caito in 2004.

Survivors include one son; Paul (Cathleen) Caito of Ohio; one daughter; Kathryn (Lee) Liolios of Lancaster, NY and a sister, Joan MacKenzie of West Seneca. She was the grandmother of Lindsay (Chris) Dunlap, Chelsea, Mitchell and Jake Caito and Sophia Liolios.

There will be no prior visitation. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, 9:30 am at Resurrection Parish - St. Mary's Church. Memorials may be made to Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross St., or the United Memorial Medical Center League, 123 North St., both Batavia, NY 14020. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Arrangements completed by the H. E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home of Batavia.

Lee F. "Bud" Cudney

Byron - Lee F. "Bud" Cudney, 79, of Byron, a driver at Cummings & Bricker, Inc. and son of the late Gordon W. and Etta (Roberts) Cudney, passed away October 13, 2010 at Rochester General Hospital after suffering a short illness.

Bud was a lifelong resident of the Byron Area and retired in 1995 as Byron Highway Superintendent, a position he held for 16 years. He most recently was a driver at Cummings and Bricker, Inc. for 12 years. He was a former member of the Byron Kiwanis club and a lifetime member and past president of the Byron Fire Department. He was an active member of the Bergen 1st Presbyterian Church where he served a term as deacon.

He attended South Byron High School where he excelled as a basketball player. He was a member of the New York State Highway Superintendents Association, former member of the Town of Byron Board and was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed basketball.

He was close to the completion of fulfilling his dream of restoring the first automobile that he had owned.

Bud is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley (Brimmer) Cudney whom he married May 23, 1953; 3 sons, Jeffrey Cudney of Lockport, Donald (Leoti) Cudney and Robert (Lisa) Cudney, both of Byron; 2 daughters, Cheryl (Roy) Cudney Hixon of Marietta, GA and Barbara (Keith) Cudney Marshall of Brockport, 2 grandsons, Brad Squires and Jacob Squires; 6 granddaughters, Brenda (Nate) Squires Nord, Jennifer Cudney, Kelly Cudney, Lindsay Cudney, Jamie Cudney and Michele Meyer; 3 great-granddaughters, Jenae Marie Colkey, Haylee Jo Thornley and Ryann Lea Squires; a sister, Rita Cudney Rowcliffe of Batavia; a brother, Lyle (Jane) Cudney of Orchard Park and several nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. He is the brother of the late Glenn Willis Cudney, Jean Bamburowski, Marjorie Bostwick, Janet Zambito, Virginia Butler, Phyllis Hart and Marilyn Smart.

Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Bergen First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bergen First Presbyterian Church, 38 South Lake Street, P.O. Box 206, Bergen, NY 14416 or to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021. Burial will be in North Byron Cemetery.

Ronald P. Dixon

Batavia - Ronald P. Dixon, 54, of Batavia, a truck driver at Lynn H. Scott Inc. of Blossvale, NY, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mr. Dixon was born May 22, 1956 in Batavia, the son of Virginia (Jeffers) Dixon Ackers and the late Willis Dixon.

He served with the Marine Corps from 1974 to 1976. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler, camper, and NASCAR fan who followed Jeff Burton. He was also a member of the Genesee County Fish and Game Protective Association at Godfrey's Pond.

Along with his mother, he is survived by his wife, Linda (Hirsch) Dixon, whom he married December, 12, 1978; a son, Ronald (Desiree') Dixon Jr. of Batavia; a daughter, Danielle Dixon Ryan of Batavia, 2 brothers, William (Terry) Dixon of NC and Dennis (Holly) Dixon of Painted Post, a sister, Peggy (Jon) Landin of Corfu; 5 grandchildren Hailey Dixon of Batavia, Sarai-Lyn Dixon of Batavia, Kolyan Ohlson of Batavia, Arianna Ohlson of Batavia and Blake Carpenter of Batavia and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will follow at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
