Wilma C. Bly

Elba - Mrs. Wilma C. Bly, 91, of Elba, an executive secretary at G.T.E. Sylvania, prior to her retirement in 1985, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at New York State Veteran's Home, in Batavia.

Mrs. Bly was born August 26, 1920 in Elba, a daughter of the late Elmer and Mary (Brownell) Brayley.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Elba for over 75 years where she was a member of the Bloom Class. She attended Rochester Business Institute and was an avid birdwatcher and gardener. She enjoyed the love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wilma & Larry also loved to travel together.

Her first husband, Donald L. Coughlin died in 1964.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence T. Bly whom she married October 13, 1975; three children, Cheryl A. (Allan) Totten of Elba, Thomas L. (Sally) Coughlin of Pavilion and Mary Lou (Kevin) Andrews of Elba; two step-children, Elizabeth M. Bly of Livingston, KY and Sharon A. Bly of Naugatuck, CT; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was the step-mother of the late Lawrence D. Bly and sister of the late Raymond Brayley, Harold Brayley and Marilyn Reed.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Elba. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Elba, 23 N. Main St., Elba, NY 14058. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba.

Janet M. Casper

Janet Mary Ivison Casper was born on November 2, 1952 to Josephine and the late Duane Ivison of South Byron. She passed peacefully into eternity on September 12, 2011 in the Hospice wing of Highland Hospital in Rochester surrounded by her family.

Janet is survived by her husband, Harold “John” Casper and her four children: Kelly (Jason) Burghart of La Salle, CO; Keith (Daysha) Littlefield of Greeley, CO; Jesse (Emily Wilson) Casper of Rochester; and Jodee (Brian) DiSanto of Walworth. Janet had immeasurable pride and joy for her six precious grandchildren: Carlos and Brianna DiSanto, Alayna and Logan Burghart, Dwayne and John Littlefield. Janet grew up on a dairy farm in South Byron with four siblings. She is survived by her brother Daniel Ivison of South Byron and her sister Julie (Stephen) Ivison-Libero of Byron, her Sister-In-Law Lynn Ivison of South Byron and Brother-In-Law Denny Miller of Bergen.

She is preceded in death by her brother Brian Ivison, and her sister Patricia Miller.

Janet always adored her nieces (Nicole, Aimee, and Mandy Miller and Linsey Ivison) and her nephews (the late Nathaniel Miller, Matthew and Holden Miller and Casey Ivison) and that affection spilled over onto their children (Elaine Gburski, Emily Foley and Natalie Ann Randall).

Janet graduated from Byron-Bergen Central School in 1970 where she was an avid cheerleader. She also participated in Chorus, FHA, Student Council and played clarinet and piano. Growing up, Janet was a member of St. Michael’s Church in South Byron and was highly involved in 4H as a young girl. Janet graduated from Alfred Tech in 1972 with a secretarial degree and went on to hold several positions in that field: head secretary of the M.E. Dept. of RIT, Children’s Director at Stephen’s Memorial Library in Attica, and Office Manager at the Bergen United Methodist Church.

Janet loved to watch Animal Planet and nature shows, do crossword puzzles and play games of all sorts. She devoured scriptures and devotionals daily. Janet was an animal lover and was especially fond of doggies, kitties, birdies, giraffes, turtles and ladybugs. Her biggest passion of all was writing: from short stories and poems to letters and all over greeting cards, she always had such a way with words.

Over the course of her lifetime, Janet developed intense friendships. Her friends and their families became “Aunts,” “Uncles,” and “Cousins” to her children and vice-versa. She loved with a big heart and always looked for the positive in others. She will always be remembered for her sleek black hair, gigantic blue eyes, and heartwarming smile.

Once a beautiful angel here on Earth, Janet is now a precious angel in Heaven. She is loved by so many and will be sorely missed.

Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at H.E. Turner and Co. Funeral Home, 51 S Lake St, Bergen. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Brigid Church, 18 Gibson St., Bergen. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for distribution to her favorite charities in Ms. Casper’s memory.

Jeanne Chapell

Batavia/Byron – Jeanne Chapell, 90, of Batavia, formerly of Byron, died Saturday (August 20, 2011) at the Leroy Village Green Nursing Home.

Jeanne was born May 2, 1921 in Batavia, to Ellen F. MacGowen Terry and John J. Terry.

Jeanne enjoyed a long life filled with fun and love. She grew up in Batavia and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church for many years. She attended Batavia High School and graduated with honors in 1938. She married her husband, Clifford Chapell on April 13, 1941, and raised eight children. She enjoyed traveling, reading, foxhunting, and the great outdoors. One of her most cherished activities was spending time at the family pond in Byron where she would sit in the sun and read for hours.

Jeanne never worked outside the home until her husband passed in 1966. After that she worked several small jobs to support her family. She worked as an Optometric Assistant for David L. Armstrong, O.D. in Batavia for a few years. After moving to Virginia with her two youngest children in 1972, she worked for the Virginia DMV as a Drivers License Examiner. Later on she was employed by John Hancock Insurance as a Secretary- Receptionist. Jeanne retired in 1987.

Jeanne traveled and enjoyed foxhunting with her husband for many years and was an active participant in the sport and the administration of many clubs and affiliations. Jeanne was an Officer and Director of the NY State Foxhunter Association. She was a founder, an officer, an honorary director and a NY State Chairman for the International Foxhunters Association. Remaining true to her association with her foxhunting friends, Jeanne became a Director of the VA International Fox Hunters Association, a Member of the Brunswick Foxhound Club as well as a member of the Pennsylvania Fox Chasers Club.

She is survived by her sons, Robert (Winnie) Chapell of Clermont, GA, Richard (Dale) Chapell of Mt. Airy, NC, Gerald (Helen) Chapell of Byron and Jeffrey (Susan) Chapell of Springfield, MA and daughters, Patricia (Don) Miller of Etlan, VA, Linda (Louie) Scafetta of Byron and Brenda (fiancé Ed Miller) Chapell of Byron; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many dear foxhunting friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Ruth Ball and Nancy Boyce, her husband, Clifford E. Chapell and her youngest son, Timothy D. Chapell.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery, Byron. Memorials may be made to Virginia International Fox Hunters Association, 4278 East Ferry Road, Gladys, VA 24554.

Mrs. Edith M. Chaya

Batavia - Mrs. Edith M. Chaya, 88, of Batavia, died Friday, September 2, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Chaya was born August 25, 1923 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Raymond and Margery Hoyt Genthner.

A member of Ascension Parish in Batavia, Mrs. Chaya was a member of the Home School Association at Notre Dame High School and was very active in St. Joseph's Church and School when her children attended school. She was a member of the Mother's Club of the church and was one of the co-founders of St. Joseph's Annual Popcorn Ball.

She was also active in the Democratic Party in Batavia, serving as past president of the Democratic Women's Committee and also served as an election inspector for many years. She was a member and past president of the Holland Land Office Museum.

She traveled extensively with her late husband Ramon, traveling to Poland on three separate occasions and was a porcelain doll collector.

Her husband, Ramon C. Chaya, Sr., died December 20, 1990.

Survivors include two sons, Karl (Carole) King of Rochester and Ramon C. Jr. (Patricia) Chaya of Batavia; a daughter, Gail (James E.) Hink of Batavia; five grandchildren, Joseph A. (Eugina) Volino, Brenda J. Volino, Caleb C. (Shelby) Chaya, Karla L. (Joseph) Tomei and Kelsey Lynn Chaya; six great-grandchildren, Krystle Volino, Jessica L. Scott, Jackson and Frankie Tomei and Travis and Ryan Chaya; a sister, Betty Sellinger of Chili and several nieces and nephews.

She was the grandmother of the late Brian Keith Volino who died July 5, 2006 and sister of the late Phyllis Cordon.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia. Memorials may be made to the United Memorial Medical Foundation, 127 North Street, Batavia, New York 14020.

Mr. Donald C. Espenmiller

Rochester - Donald C. Espenmiller, 93, of Rochester, died Wednesday, (August 3, 2011) at the New York State Veteran's Home, in Batavia.

Mr. Espenmiller was born September 9, 1917 in Rochester, a son of the late Glen and Emma (Rowitz) Espenmiller.

He is the husband of Shirley (Smith) Espenmiller, whom he married May 3, 1958 in Rochester.

Donald will be remembered by his family as a kind soul. He had a love for animals, but his true passion was the railroad. Especially the subway; of which he was an engineer in Rochester for nine years, followed by 25 years of service as a transit driver for the City of Rochester. He loved steam locomotives and model trains, having constructed several elaborate model displays over the years; even including the 20 Mule Team, which he was very proud of. He served his country honorably with the Army during WWII.

Surviving along with his wife is his daughter, Cheryl (Vincent) Mullen of Byron; five nieces; and two nephews. His beloved cat, Tiger also survives.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Norman (late Betty) Espenmiller and a nephew, Richard Espenmiller.

Friends may call on Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:00 AM at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where Donald’s Funeral Service will immediately following calling at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimers Association, Western New York Chapter, 2805 Wherle Dr., Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.

Harold L. Green

Basom - Harold L. Green, 78, of Basom, a driver at Tyler Truck Lines in Oakfield, for 30 years prior to his retirement, died Sunday, October 2, 2011 at his home while under Homecare and Hospice.

Mr. Green was born October 16, 1932 in Alabama, a son of the late Frederick and Marjorie (VanCleef) Green.

Mr. Green served with the Navy during the Korean War achieving the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Service Medal, Navy Occupation (E) Service Medal and served aboard the USS Libre.

He attended the Oakfield Alabama Baptist Church, was a member of Akron Masonic Lodge #527, the Clay County Shrine Club in Middleburg, FL, Morocco Shrines in Jacksonville, FL, Scottish Rite Valley of Jacksonville; Oakfield Alabama American Legion Post #626, Batavia Chapter #166 Disabled American Veterans, Alabama Fire Department Exempts. He formerly worked for Gypsum Services and was a Highway Superintendent for the Town of Alabama.

He and his wife, Evelyn traveled throughout the US and Canada in their motorhome for 20 years, wintering in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn B. (Parker) Green whom he married June 20, 1959; a son, CMDCM Dennis H. Green (US Navy Ret'd) of Middleburg, FL; a daughter: Ginger (Lon) Schmigel of Alabama; a brother, Darrell (Millie) Green of East Shelby; 4 grandchildren, Christina (George) Fricke of NC, Matthew H. Green and Daniel Schmigel, both of FL and Shantel Schmigel of VA; a great-grandchild, Charles Fricke of NC; a sister-in-law, Linda Green of Akron; several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Kenneth Green.

Friends may call from 10 am to 12 pm Thursday at Oakfield Alabama Baptist Church, 2210 Judge Road, Town of Alabama, where services will immediately follow at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for distribution to various charities. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery, East Shelby with full military honors. Arrangements were completed by Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield.

Annette M. "Annie" Kegler

Batavia - Mrs. Annette M. “Annie” Kegler, 48, of Batavia, an employee of the former Latina's in Batavia, died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mrs. Kegler was born January 20, 1963 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Lymann and Viola (Sucher) Schneller.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her dogs. She enjoyed bird watching, cooking and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Kegler whom she married August 4, 2007; her daughter, Melissa (Christopher) Plath of Batavia; 2 grandchildren, Ryan Plath and Julia Plath, both of Batavia; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill & Pauline Kegler of Pavilion; 2 sisters, Shirley (Dave) Toal of Syracuse and Janet (Ron) Dioguardi of SC; several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Barbara Jewett, Nancy Uptegrove and Fran Lawton.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at Town of Batavia Fire Department’s Recreation Hall, 8380 Lewiston Road, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for distribution to various charities. Arrangements were completed by H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home of Batavia.

William James "Bill" "Choppers" Lampke, Sr.

Batavia - Mr. William James "Bill" "Choppers" Lampke, Sr., 55, of Oakfield and Batavia, an employee for over 20 years and operations manager at Flower City Produce in Rochester, died peacefully in his home on Monday, September 26, 2011.

Mr. Lampke was born May 11, 1956 in Batavia, a son of Carol (Demmer) Lampke-Irwin of LeRoy and the late William Lampke.

Bill was an avid Buffalo Bills and NASCAR enthusiast. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and with his family.

He is the father of William J. Lampke, Jr. of Strykersville; grandfather of Bridget R. Lampke, Anthony J. Lampke, Abigail R. Lampke and Emily A. Lampke. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Rex (Janet) Lampke of Warsaw, Steve (Lisa) Lampke of Ithaca and Dale Lampke of New York City; 5 sisters, Margret (Craig) Hurley, Barb (John) Viscovi and Linda (Doug) Weig, all of LeRoy, Robin (Mark) Hall of Batavia and Amy (Richard) Weaver of Lockport; several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Ann Bomham and JoAnne Miller and step son of the late David Irwin.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements were completed by Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave. Oakfield, NY.
