Mrs. Mary L. Tresco
Batavia - Mrs. Mary L. Tresco, 88, of Batavia, NY, a clerk at the former Alexander’s Clothing Store, died Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Genesee County Nursing Home, in Batavia.
Mrs. Tresco was born March 8, 1923 in Oakfield, a daughter of the late Louis and Rose (Cardinali) Colombo.
She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Church, a 1941 graduate of Batavia High School, and was a former member of the St. Mary's and Notre Dame PTA. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were of upmost importance in her life.
Her husband, Vincent J. Tresco, died August 12, 1994.
Survivors include 3 sons, James Tresco of Florida, Dennis (Susan) Tresco of Syracuse and Richard "Rick" (Lucia) Tresco of LeRoy; 6 grandchildren, Angela (Jason) Bender of Chicago, Paul (Courtenay) Tresco, Dan Tresco and Natalie Tresco, all of Syracuse, Christopher Tresco of Buffalo, and Melissa Tresco of LeRoy; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Tresco and Nolan Tresco, both of Syracuse and Ella Mattice of LeRoy; a sister, Nancy (Sam) Ficarella of Batavia, and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Manuel, Norm, Paul, John, Joe, Sam and Rose Colombo, Pauline Cina, and Josephine Hargraves.
Friends may call on Sunday, August 21, 2011, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 E. Main St., Batavia. Her Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2011 at Resurrection Parish - St. Mary's Site, 18 Ellicott St., Batavia. Mrs. Lucy Williams
Batavia - Mrs. Lucy Williams, 93, of Batavia, mother of Margaret Shannon of Batavia, died Saturday, October 1, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center.
Services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 516 Ellicott Street, Batavia. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia.
Azzedine "Denny" Zeghdani
Bergen - Azzedine "Denny" Zeghdani, 68, of Bergen, a retiree of Kodak, died Friday, (August 19, 2011) at his home in Bergen.
Mr. Zeghdani was born October 20, 1942 in Algeria, a son of the late Seddick and Sakina Zerdani.
He was the husband of Lucille (Gage) Zeghdani. They had a true love for one another, never leaving each other’s side. They were married on June 6, 1985.
Mr. Zeghdani was a former professional soccer player in Europe, and was the co-founder of the Byron-Bergen Youth Soccer Program. For 15 years he took great pride in coaching soccer for the youth program. He was very passionate about teaching others to play the sport, including one of his grandsons. An avid sports fan, he also enjoyed playing and watching tennis, golf, cross country skiing and biking. He enjoyed spending time woodworking and tending to his garden, as well as spending time with his family.
Surviving along with his wife are four children, Sakina (Tracy Hodge) Zeghdani of Melborne, FL, Kim (Steve) Randall of Churchville, Lynn (Becky Lee) Millis of Longwood, FL and Jamie Zeghdani of Churchville; six grandchildren, Nicholas Zeghdani of Chili, Tyler and Alyssa Randall of Churchville, Dylon Cruz of Longwood, FL, Ashlynn and Mikaelynn Millis of Longwood , FL. Four brothers, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call on Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen, where Denny’s funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Family. Burial will take place privately in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Bergen.
Richard Edward Miller
Oakfield - Richard Edward Miller, 83, of Oakfield, a Foreman at Graham Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1993 after 40 years of service, died Monday, April 2, 2012 at Buffalo General Medical Center.
He was a loving and devoted husband and a family man who loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Mr. Miller was born March 23, 1929 in Oakfield, a son of the late Charles and Theresa (McGrath) Miller.
He served honorably in Korea, during the Korean War with the Air Force.
He was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecelia's Worship Site and graduate of Oakfield High School. He enjoyed computers, expressing himself thru political editorials and genealogy research. He enjoyed travel to the Adirondacks and to Crazy Horse Monument.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Veronica (Klein) Miller whom he married October 18, 1952; 7 children, Jim (Kathy) Miller, Kathy (Rick dec’d) Hollabaugh, Terry Maid, Carol (Rich dec’d) Weeks, Karen Miller, Steve (Amy) Miller and Sue (Iain) Walker; a sister, Pauline Warner; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Sinclair, Michael, Charles, Tommy, Harry, Hank, Peter and Walter Miller and father-in-law of the late Rick Hollabaugh and Rich Weeks.
Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave., Oakfield. His Mass will be at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecilia's Worship Site, 56 Maple Ave., Oakfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for distribution to various charities.
Fred G. Benz
Mr. Fred G. Benz, 74, of Batavia, died Monday (March 26, 2012) at the New York State Veteran's Home in Batavia.
Mr. Benz was born in Buffalo, a son of the late Fred and Esther (Bourne) Benz.
In 1998, after 30 years of service, he retired from Ferrellgas in Batavia as a serviceman. Mr. Benz enjoyed watching the New York Giants and NASCAR. He loved being with his family and friends and also loved all his many cats. A veteran, he served with the United States Air Force.
Survivors include wife, Ruth (Donley) Benz of Batavia; a son, Mark (fiancée Carol Mooney) Benz of Batavia; a daughter, Karen Benz of LeRoy; a grandson, Brandon Benz of LeRoy; a sister, Benay Chamberlain of Batavia and nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his two brothers, Dion Benz and Mark Benz.
There are no prior calling hours and services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery, Shelby. Memorials may be made to Batavia Animal Hospital, 3699 West Main Street Road, Batavia, NY 14020.
Florence E. Bernard
Batavia - Florence E. Bernard, 94, of Batavia, passed away Friday, (April 6, 2012) at the New York State Veteran's Home, in Batavia, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Bernard was born February 11, 1918 in Batavia, a daughter of the late John E. and Olive (Boyce) Dietschler.
She was the longest surviving member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, having joined in 1932. Florence was the site manager of the former Batavia Senior Center for more than 20 years; and was the Mission Chairperson for the Presbyterian Women of Batavia. She was also President of the 20/30 Club. She enjoyed volunteering her time with the American Red Cross.
Mrs. Bernard was a devoted mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed having tea parties with the numerous children in the family.
She was the wife of the late William Bernard, who passed away in 1997. They were married September 30, 1938, in Batavia.
Florence is survived by her children, Beverly (Paul) Kern, Jack (Norma) Bernard both of Batavia, Rev. James (Pamela) Bernard of KY, Dennis (Maria) Bernard of Miami, FL, Allyn (Linda) Bernard of Oakfield, Richard (Maria) Bernard of NC, and Barry Bernard of CA; Daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Bernard of Las Vegas, NV. 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren survive along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mrs. Bernard is preceded in death by a son, Robert Bernard; and a grandson, Shawn Bernard.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main Street, Batavia, where Florence’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the family for distribution to Florence's favorite charities. Russell M. Gaiser
Mr. Russell M. Gaiser, 87, of Batavia, died Friday (March 30, 2012) at the Batavia Nursing Home.
Mr. Gaiser was born February 16, 1925 in Youngstown, OH, the son of the late Henry and Margaret (Casper) Gaiser.
Mr. Gaiser was a Lieutenant with the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was the Chief of Mechanical Engineering at G.T.E. Sylvania in Batavia. A graduate of Buffalo Technical High School, Mr. Gaiser was a member and past treasurer at St. James Episcopal Church. He was also a past member of the Batavia Club and Rotary Club. Mr. Gaiser enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid boater.
Survivors include a son, Geof (Carole) Gaiser of Grand Rapids, MI; a sister-in-law, Mary Shuknecht of Elba; three grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife, Elinor Gaiser.
There are no prior calling hours. Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Monday at St. James Episcopal Church, 405 East Main Street, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church.
Rodney H. Greenman
Rodney H. Greenman, 53, of Stafford, died Monday (February 6, 2012) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Mr. Greenman was born February 13, 1958 in Batavia, a son of Clinton Greenman of Sun City, AZ and the late Margaret (Winkleman) Greenman.
Mr. Greenman worked ground maintenance at Terry Hills Golf Course in Batavia. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and golfing. He loved Godfrey's Pond, was a racing fan and spending time at home and also with his family.
Surviving along with his father are his wife, Amy (Istvan) Greenman of Stafford; three children, Alex (Sara) Greenman of Omaha, NE, Emily Anne Greenman of Stafford and Kenneth Jacob Greenman of Stafford; two sisters, Nancy (Ron) Wyse of Warsaw and Susan Sherwood of Arizona and nieces and nephews. Mr. Greenman was awaiting the birth of his first grandson, Clinton Rodney Greenman.
He is predeceased by his brother, Clinton R. Greenman.

Marcia Jane Hagen
Marcia Jane Hagen, 83, of Batavia and formerly of Oakfield, passed away peacefully Thursday (April 5, 2012) at the United Memorial Medical Center.
She was born October 23, 1928 in Batavia, the daughter of the late George and Helen (Wakeman) Hagen.
She was a very religious woman with a strong faith in God.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert W. Hagen Sr. of Haines City, FL and Dean S. Hagen of Dunnellon, FL; a nephew, Robert W. (Cindy) Hagen Jr. of Fairport; a niece, Kimberly (Rolf) Paschedag of Fairport and a great-nephew and great-niece.
She is predeceased by her sister-in-law, Helen W. Hagen.
