Albertine M. Holnbeck

Batavia - Mrs. Albertine M. Holnbeck, 87, of Batavia, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Holnbeck was born November 14, 1924 in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Ernest and Louise Plante Brault.

The years through her late teens were spent helping raise her younger siblings and working summers at her parents` fishing camp on the west arm of Lake Nippissing in Ontario, Canada where she met Stephen T. Holnbeck. They were married in September 1951, and moved to Batavia where they raised their family. Albertine was active in her church and (once her boys were raised) enjoyed music and crafts and time spent with family and friends.

Survivors include two sons: Stephen R. (Bev) Holnbeck of Helena, Montana and their children, Katie, Sarah and Mariah and Greg T. Holnbeck of Leesburg, Virginia, his son, Justin (Allie) and their son, Evan.

Friends may call on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Prayers at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph Site, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Robert J. Kelsey ~ "Uncle Bob"

Mr. Robert J. Kelsey, 40, of Batavia, died Tuesday (February 7, 2012) at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mr. Kelsey was born February 22, 1971 in Batavia, a son of Karen (Treat) Kelsey of Batavia and the late Lester F. Kelsey Jr.

Mr. Kelsey loved sports and watching wrestling, football and Nascar. He also collected sports memorabilia.

Surviving along with his mother are three brothers, Lester Kelsey III of Connecticut, Aaron (fiancée Anacel Nadera) Kelsey of Batavia and Mark (Melissa) Kelsey of Batavia and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by a nephew, Timothy Kelsey and an uncle Donald Kelsey.

Calling hours are Saturday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Batavia.

Gertrude M. "Gert" Kerr

Mrs. Gertrude M. Kerr, 90, of Batavia, passed away Friday (February 10, 2012) at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia.

Mrs. Kerr was born March 10, 1921 in Detroit, MI, a daughter of the late John and Clara (Chapp) Geiger.

Gert graduated from Hamtrameck High School in Michigan in 1939. She moved to Batavia in 1952. Gert worked for 23 years as parish secretary for Monsignor Francis L. Schwartz at St. Joseph's Church in Batavia. She retired in 1983. Gert was an accomplished seamstress and avid reader, but also enjoyed more active pastimes like ice skating, line dancing, traveling and boating.

Survivors include a son, Dennis D. Kerr of Batavia; a daughter, Sharon (Roger) Christiano of Batavia; two granddaughters, Gina (Chad) Stevens of Batavia and Jill (fiancé J.R. Campbell) Christiano of Lexington, Kentucky; a great-granddaughter, Drew Stevens; a sister, Geraldine C. Allen of Fenton, Michigan. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and very close friends, the Anthony L. Peca family.

Her husband, the late Donald H. Kerr, passed away December 5, 1966. They were married May 10, 1947. Gert is also predeceased by a sister, Margaret E. DeMarois and a brother, Joseph P. Geiger.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph’s Church, 303 East Main St., Batavia. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Batavia.

Mr. Robert Allen Marshall, Sr.

Batavia - Mr. Robert Allen Marshall, Sr., 88, of Batavia, lifetime employee at Graham Manufacturing Company and longtime employee at Batavia Downs, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the New York State Veteran's Home.

Mr. Marshall was born October 27, 1923 in Oakfield, a son of the late Clyde and Bernice Grinnell Marshall.

A graduate of Oakfield-Alabama High School, Mr. Marshall attended Alfred State College until the attack on Pearl Harbor when he enlisted in the Marine Corp. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. A member of St. Joseph's Church in Batavia he enjoyed playing golf during his retirement and was a former member of the Moose Club in Batavia.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at the New York State Veterans' Home.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Conforto Marshall whom he married February 2, 1946; six children, Donna (David) McKendree of Clinton, Michael Marshall of New York City, Susan (Curtis) Marcott of Johns Island, South Carolina, Robert A. Marshall, Jr. of Sacramento, California, David Marshall of Columbia, Maryland and Rebecca (Brian) Schrader of Batavia; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his grandson Dane Schrader who died in 2010.

There are no prior visiting hours. Friends are welcome to attend his Mass at 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel at the New York State Veteran’s Home, 220 Richmond Avenue, Batavia. A reception will immediately follow services. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the New York State Veteran's Home, 220 Richmond Avenue, Batavia, New York 14020. Arrangements were entrusted to the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.

Mary D. Mistretta

Corfu - Mary D. Mistretta, 77, of Corfu, died Sunday (March 18, 2012) at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Mistretta was born October 26, 1934 in Lackawanna, a daughter of the late Angelo and Mariana Monaco.

She was a secretary in the president’s office at Genesee Community College in Batavia. Mrs. Mistretta enjoyed reading, going to the casinos and playing slot machines.

Survivors include her husband, Pat Mistretta; three daughters, Michele Mistretta of Corfu, Patrice Mistretta of Corfu and Tina Mistretta of Fall Branch, TN; a grandson, Alex Curle of Dallas, TX; a brother, Michael Monaco of Depew; a sister, Anne Monaco of Batavia and two nephews, Ken Monaco and Dave Monaco.

She is a sister of the late Anthony Monaco and Nicholas Monaco.

There are no prior calling hours and services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at www.stjude.org.

Mrs. Marilyn S. Post

Batavia - Mrs. Marilyn S. Post, 85, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2012, at the New York State Veteran's Home in Batavia.

Mrs. Post was born April 27, 1926 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Walter and Ione Volz Stevens.

A graduate of Batavia High School, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Batavia.

Mrs. Post and her husband Dick Post moved from Batavia in 1969 to Pearl River, New York, where she was an active member of the Naurashaun Presbyterian Church. For over 10 years, she and Dick ran the "Post House" on Martha's Vineyard. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Vineyard Haven.

Marilyn had a flair for decorating and will be remembered as being creative and artistic, having a natural talent for anything she put her hand to. She thoroughly enjoyed re-upholstering furniture, doll making, needlework, painting, and rug-hooking. She and Dick designed two of their Vineyard homes. Marilyn also enjoyed the outdoors, especially bird watching and walks on the beach with her husband and family.

Her loving husband, William Richard “Dick” Post, whom she married on June 30, 1947 in Batavia, predeceased her by one week on January 28, 2012.

She is survived by her children, Donna Post of Batavia, Jeffrey (Maryellen) Post of Albion and Melissa (Thomas Porter) Post of Winsted, Connecticut; three grandsons, Brendan (Abigail) Post of North Chili, Christopher Post of Batavia and Ryan Post of Albion; two brothers-in-law, G. David (Nancy) Post of Batavia and Donald (Debra) Post of Rochester; along with two nieces and four nephews.

She is also predeceased by her son William Richard "Bill" Post, Jr. and her cousin Helen "Honey" Pratt.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Marilyn’s funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main Street, Batavia. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Donald Peters

Stafford - Donald Peters, 87, of Stafford, a 40 year employee of Lapp Insulator, in LeRoy, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at his daughter’s home under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Mr. Peters was born February 11, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN, a son of the late Arthur and Jessie (Hall) Peters.

He served honorably with the US Army Air Corps as a B25 pilot, during WW II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross. Donald was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Batavia as well as a member and past President of the Stafford Fire Department.

Surviving along with his wife, Betty (Hahn) Peters, whom he married March 4, 1944, is a daughter, Darleene (Temple Lewis) Peters of East Bethany; a sister-in- law, Wanda (Hahn) Nicholson of CA; nieces, Diane (Peters) Larsen of MN, Capy (Peters) Rudiger of WI, and Becky (Nicholson) Sprong of CA, nephews, Paul Demko of LeRoy, David Demko of Batavia, and Ronnie Nicholson of CA.

Donald is preceded in death by his brother, William Peters, and sister, Dorothy Peters.

There will be no prior visitation. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HomeCare & Hospice, 550 E. Main St., Batavia, NY 14020. Arrangements were entrusted to the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home of Batavia.

Leva Marie Morgan

Mrs. Leva Marie Morgan, 82, of East Bethany, died Friday (March 16, 2012) at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Morgan was born March 28, 1929 in Gouverneur, NY, a daughter of the late Leon and Anna (Mayhew) Paquette.

Mrs. Morgan was an avid bingo and card player.

Survivors include her children, Donna Morgan of NC, Roger (Cindy) Morgan of Batavia, Cathy (Dale) Worthington of Byron, Terry (Carol) Morgan of East Bethany, Kenneth (Bonnie) Morgan of East Bethany, Lori (Randy) White of Batavia and Patricia (Ronald) Peterson of LeRoy; a brother, Joseph (Frieda) Paquette of Dayton, OH; a sister, Eleanor Enright of Norristown, PA and 24 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Bernard Morgan, who died February 12, 1998 and her son, Bernard Morgan Jr.

Calling hours and services will be private. Burial will be in Maplelawn Cemetery, Bethany.

Esther Ruth Goodrich

Batavia - Esther Ruth Goodrich, 50, of Batavia, the LPN Adult Education Coordinator at Genesee Valley Educational Partnership in Batavia, died Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Unity Health System at Park Ridge Hospital, in Rochester.

Mrs. Goodrich was born February 16, 1961 in Utica, a daughter of Nancy L. Phillips Simmons and the late Rev. Wilmer C. Simmons.

Esther loved to worship the Lord through playing the piano and singing. Her smile was easily brought out by all of God's creations, especially her pets. Her favorite activities were going for walks and holding hands with the love of her life, Mike. Esther and Mike were truly best friends and were married for 30 years. She loved to give to charities, especially those involving children and anything that furthered the kingdom of God. She had a servant's heart, which was the driving force behind her passion to serve her church. Though all of these things describe her interests, they don't define who she truly was. Above all, Esther was a child of God. She loved and lived a life devoted to Christ. As she would say "I am who I am because of God's love and grace." Esther "Esey" Goodrich was a true woman of God, and she showed this in all aspects of her life.

She was a member of Northgate Free Methodist Church, was in the final stage of the Master's in Nursing Education program at Daemen College and was a leader in the Mothers of Pre-schoolers program. She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, reading, singing and playing the piano. She was the former CEO and COO of Homecare and Hospice in Batavia.

Along with her mother, she is survived by her husband, Michael R. Goodrich, whom she married July 18, 1981; 2 sons, Matthew Goodrich of Buffalo and Erik Goodrich of Batavia; a daughter, Julia Goodrich of WI, her extra child, Kristen "KK" Geroult of Batavia; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was the sister of the late Sheri Schultz.

Friends may call on Friday (Feb. 17, 2012) from 3 to 6 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb 18, 2012 at Northgate Free Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Northgate Free Methodist Church, 8160 Bank Street Road, Batavia, NY 14020 or International Child Care Ministries, 770 N. High School Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46214. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery.
