George J. Gilhooly
Alexander- George J. Gilhooly, a life long resident of Alexander, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loved ones. He was born March 26, 1937 in Batavia, a son of the late Francis J and Louise (Good) Gilhooly.
He retired from Griffith Oil in Pearl Creek. Over the years he had driven for Kendall Refining Co., Mobile Oil Co., Maslin Transport and worked part time for Ralph Mullens Rotary Gas Station, Harveys Mobile, and Genes Mobile. He was always a hard working man who very much enjoyed his family, his special cat Cocoa, mowing lawn with his John Deere mower and playing cards at Batavia Moose Club, St Nicks Social Club and Wolfleys Barn.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years Carol A. (Moore) Gilhooly; 2 sons, David of Attica and Randal of Alexander; 3 daughters, Sharon of Chili, Susan of Alexander, and Tina of Batavia: 8 grandchildren, Shannon, Shauna, Amanda, Angela, Jessica, Danielle, Mattea and Nicolle; 3 great-grandchildren, Brianna, Madison and Ashton; a brother Francis (Peggy) Gilhooly of Attica; 2 sisters, Mary (late Don) Pell of Interlaken and Helen (Richard) Cecere of Alexander; a brother-in-law, Harold (Dee) Moore of St Petersburg FL and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 at H.E. Turner & Co., Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St, Batavia. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at West Bethany Baptist Church, 10333 West Bethany Rd, (Town of)Bethany, NY. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to the family for distribution to charities of the family's choice. Interment will be in West Bethany Cemetery.
Dorothy L. Worthington
LeRoy - Dorothy L. Worthington, 76, of LeRoy, died Friday, March 16, 2012 at Batavia Nursing Home.
Mrs. Worthington was born December 30, 1935 in Batavia, the daughter of the late David and Margaret (Grimes) Lewis.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of LeRoy where she was involved with many of the church's activities. She was a retired secretary and enjoyed gardening and crafts.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ralph D. Worthington, Sr.; a daughter, Juanita (Kurt) Lewis of Stafford; a son, Ralph (Betty) Worthington, Jr. of Stafford; a brother, Don (Barbara) Lewis of Batavia; 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Richard Lewis.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western New York Chapter, 2805 Wehrle Dr., Ste. #6 Williamsville, NY 14221-7380 or to the First Presbyterian Church of LeRoy, 7 Clay St., LeRoy, NY 14482. Private burial will be in Grand View Cemetery. Arrangements were completed by Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home of Batavia.
Mrs. Rosanna Wallace
Batavia - Mrs. Rosanna Wallace, 93, of Batavia, a retired nurse, died Thursday, (March 15, 2012) at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility, in LeRoy.
Mrs. Wallace was born May 10, 1918 in LeRoy, NY, the daughter of the late Louis and Josephine (Andalora) Baglio.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Church. She was a graduate of the Wyoming County Community Hospital School of Nursing. Her life revolved around her family; especially her grandchildren. She was devoted to her profession and also greatly enjoyed making spaghetti sauce for her family and friends.
She was the wife of the late Neal Wallace, who passed away in 1973.
The family would like to offer many heartfelt thanks to the dedicated nurses and staff on the D Wing of LeRoy Village Green for their loving and compassionate care of Rosanna.
Rosanna is survived by her daughter, Rita Ahl of Tulsa, OK; daughter-in-law, Marjorie Wallace of Bergen; grandchildren, Michael Wallace of Saranac Lake, Jean (William) Buell of Bergen, Amy Wallace of Gardiner, Kevin (Carol) Ahl of Broken Arrow, OK, Kelly Ahl of Washington, DC; great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Carleigh Buell, both of Bergen; sisters, Marian (late Charles) Ricci and Carmella (Ralph) Cintorino, both of Batavia. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
She is the mother of the late Richard Wallace and sister of the late Josephine Maida, Jennie Paladino, Frank Baglio, Grace Baglio, Mary Perry and Sarah Forti.
There will be no prior visitation. Rosanna’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, (March 24, 2012) in St. Vincent De Paul Church, 11 North Main St, Churchville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, LeRoy. Arrangements entrusted to the H.E. Turner & Co Funeral Home of Batavia.
Ivan E. Wahls
Brockport - Ivan E. Wahls, 86, of Brockport, a color inspector for Paper Services at Eastman Kodak Co., for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1983, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Lakeside Memorial Hospital, in Brockport.
Mr. Wahls was born May 18, 1925 in Buffalo, a son of the late Earl and Ethel (Satter) Wohlsclagel.
He served with the Army’s 101 Airborne Division in Holland, Belgium, Bastone and Germany during WWII war and as a member of General Eisenhower’s Honor Guard. He was a former owner of Wahls Landscaping and enjoyed his summer cottage at Seneca Lake for 40 years.
His wife, Lillian (Neth) Wahls died March 4, 2004.
Survivors include 2 sons, Alan (Jeanne) Wahls of Brockport and Timothy (Lacey) Wahls of Spencerport; a daughter, Ann (Robert) Gault of Raleigh, NC; 2 brothers, Glenn Wohlsclagel of Batavia and Wayne (Shirley) Wahls of Florida; 4 grandchildren, James (Lisa) Wahls of Churchville, Kathryn Wahls and Andrew Wahls, both of Spencerport and Lindsay Gault of Raleigh, NC; 3 great-grandchildren, Johnathan Wahls, Michael Wahls and Zachary Wahls, all of Churchville; several nieces and nephews.
He is the brother of the late Ernest Wahls and Lorraine Bell and brother-in-law of the late Monica Wohlsclegel.
Friends may call on Sunday from 1pm to 4 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia. His Mass will be at 9:30 a.m., Monday at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph Site, 303 E. James A. Slane
Batavia - James A. Slane, 76, of Batavia, died Friday, February 3, 2012 at New York State Veteran's Home, in Batavia.
Mr. Slane was born June 9, 1935 in Warsaw, the son of the late James and Mildred (Johnson) Slane.
He served as a tank mechanic during Korea and Vietnam wars with the US Marines and taught is trade to other Marines. He was a member of Byron Presbyterian Church and Glenn S. Loomis Post #332 American Legion and supported his great- nieces in their school and extra-curricular activities.
Survivors include his sister, Ruth McCracken of Batavia, 5 nieces and nephews, Daryl McCracken of FL, Deborah Kreienberg of Pittsford, Darlene (Edward) Koubek of Houston, TX and Jerald McCracken, Jr. of Chili; 5 great-nieces, 5 great-great-nephews and several cousins.
He was the brother-in-law of the late Jerald R. McCracken.

Mary C. Severe
Batavia - Mrs. Mary C. Severe, 86, died Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.
Mrs. Severe was born November 8, 1925 in Elba, NY the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Nicosia Calarco.
Mrs. Severe and her husband, the late Anthony, owned and operated the former Turkey Kitchen Restaurant in Batavia for many years. In addition to the fine homemade turkey and spaghetti dinners they served she was best known for her delicious pies.
Survivors include two sons; Salvatore (Dianne) Severe of Olalla, Washington and Anthony (Ina) Severe of Phoenix, Arizona and one brother, Carmelo Calarco of Batavia. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Smith and two brothers, Alphonso and Frank Calarco, Sr.

Patricia (Neth) Scalia
Patricia (Neth) Scalia, 93, of Scottsdale, AZ and formerly of Batavia, peacefully passed away on Tuesday (February 14, 2012).
Born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1918, in Batavia, she is a daughter of the late Charles Joseph Neth and Anna (Weick) Neth.
She spent most of her life in Batavia, having moved to Scottsdale in recent years following the death of her husband, Frank B. Scalia. She was employed by G.T.E. Sylvania for many years and was an active member of St. Anthony’s Church. Pat had an enviable sense of humor, and was a consummate card player and charter member of the “Hollywood Garbage Club.” Her creativity surfaced as a quilter and crafter, with particular interests in ceramics, stained glass, paintings and miniatures. She will be remembered by her family as being a fearless adventurist.
Pat is survived by her three loving children, Frank A. Scalia and wife, Rebeka, of Glastonbury, CT, Marilyn A. Poissant of Phoenix, AZ and Robert P. Scalia and wife, Karla, of Scottsdale, AZ. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Frank B. Scalia II, Laura Phelps, James Bailes, Linda McKenzie, Nancy Starkey, Nate Scalia and Jennie Scalia, as well as five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her eight siblings, Mary, Charles, Albert, Anna, Catherine, Joseph, Mabel and Robert, as well as her granddaughter, Barbara Jean Poissant.
Relatives and friends can join the family for visiting hours on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Prayers will be held at the funeral home Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Ascension Parish - St. Anthony’s Church, 122 Liberty Street, Batavia. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Batavia. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Karen R. Rider
Karen R. Rider, 66, of Bergen, died Wednesday (February 22, 2012) while vacationing in Jamaica.
Mrs. Rider was born April 14, 1945 in Buffalo, a daughter of Jane (Taylor) Knight of Brockport and the late Keith Knight.
Mrs. Rider was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. She was an elementary school teacher in Pembroke for over 30 years. A member of the Open Door Baptist Church in North Chili, she was a great cook and avid bird watcher. She loved her family, students, teaching and her dog.
Surviving along with her mother are her husband, Paul Rider of Bergen; a son, Matthew (Jennifer) Rider of Berlin, MA; a daughter, Sarah (Timothy) Clark of Brockport; her grandchildren, Thomas Rider, Nathan Rider, Samuel Rider, Noah Clark, Katie Clark and Grace Clark; two sisters, Barbara (Jim) Moffett of California and Judy Rotunda of Denver, CO and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church, 5220 Lake Road South, Brockport. Mr. Steven William Rethlake
Byron - Mr. Steven William Rethlake passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012.
Steve was born July 28, 1968 in Batavia to David Rethlake of Batavia and Dixie Best of Byron.
Steve enjoyed working on cars in his shop, Harley Davidson motorcycles, guitars and computers.
Steve's greatest enjoyment was his two daughters, Tiffany and Bethann who survive. Also surviving with his parents are his step-mother, Connie Rethlake of Batavia; his sister, Tara (Joseph) Statler of Warsaw; his nephew, Aaron Statler of Warsaw and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
There are no prior visiting hours. A Celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Bergen United Methodist Church, 27 South Lake Street, Bergen. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial designations may be made to the family.
LaVerne Fisher
Batavia - LaVerne L. “Ben” Fisher, 85, of Batavia, passed away Thursday, (February 7, 2013) at Crossroads House, in Batavia.
Mr. Fisher was born July 29, 1927 in Batavia, a son of the late Vincent and Gladys (Fullington) Fisher.
Ben was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He enjoyed reading and greatly enjoyed his coffee club at Sporto's. He was a life member of Godfrey's Pond and loved spending time with his family, as well as his dogs. Those that knew him best will never forget having picnics at Godfrey's; especially, roasting hot dogs with no buns.
Surviving is his wife, Beverly (Betters) Fisher, whom he married in 1951; children, Rand Fisher of Batavia, Laurie Fisher of FL, and Scott (Jodi) Fisher of Oakfield; grandchildren, Rand II and Jennifer Fisher of Batavia, Anthony and Jillian Fisher of Oakfield; his sister, Irene (late Donald) MacFayden of FL. His beloved dog, Glitter, also survives.
Mr. Fisher is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas (late Helen) Fisher.
