Elfriede M. Clark
LITTLE FALLS — Elfriede M. Clark, 89, a longtime East Herkimer resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at Van Allen Nursing Home.
She was born on March 8, 1914, in Germany, the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Freidrike Mouldenhaur. Elfriede was educated in Germany and moved to the United States in 1938.
She was married to James L. Clark for over 50 years, until the passing of Mr. Clark in 1996.
Mrs. Clark worked at one time at Chris Hanson Labs, Salada Foods and Kellogg's, being employed for over 40 years.
An avid golfer, she belonged to the Mohawk Valley Country Club for many years, then later was a member of Little Falls Municipal Golf Club. Elfriede will always be remembered for the lovely Christmas wreathes she made for so many people over the years.
Survivors include a nephew and niece in Germany and many friends, including Janet and James Murnane of Plattsburgh and Audrey Kaucher of Little Falls; and her beloved canine companion, Gretchen. She was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Arthur Mouldenhaur; and a sister, Emme Reinecke.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls. All memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Parish.

Justin Howard Caswell Jr.
UTICA — Justin Howard Caswell Jr., infant son of Janine Marie Clifton and Justin Howard Caswell of Utica, went to be with the angels on August 6, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital.
Survivors besides his parents are his maternal grandmother, Lorraine Heath of Little Falls; his paternal grandmother, Donna Eseley of Utica; maternal great-grandparents, Robert and Patricia Heath of Little Falls; many aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles; and great-great aunts and uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mary R. Bowman
TOWN OF FAIRFIELD — Mary R. Bowman, 64, of State Route 170, Little Falls, died on August 3, 2003, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, following a long illness. Mary was born in Cortland on May 25, 1939, a daughter of the late LeRoy and Christine (Tyler) Bowman. She received her education at Poland Central School and was employed as a nurses aide at various nursing homes in Utica. Mary was of the Methodist Faith and enjoyed camping and boating with family and friends at Caroga Lake. Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Edwin and Donna Murray of Schuyler, Ricky Murray of Little Falls, Dale Murray of Fairfield and Jon and Lisa Murray of Constableville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Eric Mannerberg of North Gage and April and Ron Bronson of Richfield Springs; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one stepdaughter, June Poirier and her husband, Clay, of Little Falls; one stepsister, Donna Willoughby and her husband, Bernard, of the town of Russia; one stepbrother, Daniel Bowman and his wife, Joyce, of Gravesville; nieces and nephews and her feline companion, "Kit Kat." She was predeceased by a son, Bruce Murray, in 1983. The family will be present at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow the visitation at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Donald L. Dixon, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Little Falls, officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Poland.

Mary J. Whittaker
LITTLE FALLS — Mrs. Mary J. Whittaker, age 84, formerly of Riverside,  Calif., and most recently residing with her daughter at 226 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, entered into eternal rest on Saturday evening, August 2, 2003, in Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on April 10, 1919, in New York City, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Powers)  White and received her education in New York City schools. She had resided in California for 23 years until moving to Little Falls.
She married Patrick Whittaker in New York City. He passed away on February 22, 1988. She was last employed by Charles and Company as a sales clerk and worked as a floor manager for Macy's on 34th Street in New York City at one time. She was of the Catholic faith.
She leaves a daughter, Deborah and husband Dan Bush of Little Falls; a brother, Timothy  White and wife Dena of Riverside,  Calif.; a sister, Anna Rogers of Pleasantville; two grandchildren, Garrett Petraia and wife Juliana of Yonkers and Toni-Anne Johns and husband Luke of Little Falls; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four brothers, Joe, Frank, Jim and Tommy  White.
There are no public calling hours. Cremation will take place under the direction of the Enea Funeral Home, Little Falls. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday at noon from Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Mark Cunningham, officiating. Interment will take place in California.

Edward Fredericks
NEWVILLE — Edward Fredericks, 77, of 682 Newville Rd., Little Falls, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 3, 2003, at Little Falls after being stricken at home. He was born on September 1, 1925, in the town of Palatine, the son of the late Edward J. and Mildred (Shults) Fredericks. He was educated in Fort Plain rural schools and Fort Plain High School. Following the death of his mother, Ed was taken care of by his sister, Naomi. After her death in 1933 at the age of 11, Ed, who was seven-years-old, was placed in foster care. He was eventually placed in the care of Harry and Ruth Veeder and raised in the Charleston Four Corners area where they raised him as one of their own. He was united in marriage to his wife of 40 years, the former Ruth M. Johnson, on October 2, 1948, in New Lebanon. Mrs. Fredericks predeceased him on July 2, 1988. Mr. Fredericks was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy, entering the service on November 24, 1944. He was honorably discharged at the rank of SK3rd class on May 19, 1946, in Shoemaker,  Calif. He served as the town of Danube assessor for 15 years. Mr. Fredericks was the owner and operator of the Gale Drive Farms, Newville. He was also the operator of Ed Fredericks and Sons Arctic Cat Snowmobile Dealership in Newville. He is survived by his father and mother, Harry and Ruth Veeder of Albany; three sons, Donald E. Fredericks and his wife, Dianne, and their children, Brian and Nicole Fredericks, Allen E. Fredericks and his wife, Myra, and their children, Sarah, Katie, Christopher and Gregory Fredericks, and Dale Fredericks and his wife, Rebecca, and their children, Alyssa and Cole Fredericks, all of Little Falls; two daughters, Vickie Dunn and her husband, Charles, and their children, Erin and Kaitlin Dunn, of Raleigh, N.C., and Gale Palmer and her husband, Robert, and their children, Alex and Jillian, of Fort Plain; a brother, Laverne "Oscar" Fredericks and his wife, Ann, of Connecticut; a sister, Edna Morrill of Baldwinsville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Naomi Fredericks; and two brothers, Gerald and Earl Fredericks. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, at 11 a.m. from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls. Interment will take place in Ephratah Rural Cemetery, Ephratah, were Military Honors will be accorded. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 5, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. and to attend the funeral services Wednesday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Fredericks be considered to the Newville Union Church, 339 Lower Paradise Rd., Little Falls, N.Y. 13365 or to the Little Falls Fire Dept. Ambulance, 659 E. Main St., Little Falls, N.Y. 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.

Allen Eugene 'The Hawk' Irons Sr.
FRANKFORT — Mr. Allen Eugene "The Hawk" Irons Sr., namesake and descendent of Ethan Allen of the Vermont Green Mountain Boys, a true patriot and beloved husband of Frances P. "Chic" (Durse) Irons, entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning, August 2, 2003, in Plano,  Texas Medical Center.
Mr. Irons was born on March 22, 1928, in Frankfort, son of the late David A. and Mary Ellen (Graves) Irons. Allen attended Frankfort High School where he excelled in basketball and track, setting new records. He graduated with the Frankfort High School Class of 1945. He attended Utica College and was a lifelong Frankfort resident. On June 18, 1949, he joined in marriage with his soul mate, the former Frances P. Durse, at St. Mary's Church in Frankfort. Throughout their 54 years of marriage, the couple shared a close and endearing relationship, one which had brought both of them great and fulfilling happiness. They proved to be a husband and wife who were very well suited to one another, each one complementing and supporting the other in all aspects and situations of their life together.
After proudly enlisting with the U.S. Navy, he was stationed in Guam. Mr. Irons completed a successful record of loyal and conscientious work and also established a well-respected reputation for himself as a New York State Trooper, from where he retired in 1983. He gained sincere and rewarding pride working with the United States Marshall Service as a court security officer. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort. Allen lived each day in a simple manner, relying upon the guidance and inspiration of his devout and steadfast faith. He was a member of the PBA, Retired New York State Troopers Association, Retired Troopers Association of America and the St. Francis Society.
Affectionately known by family and friends as "The Hawk," Allen dedicated himself as well as his time and his energies to the responsibilities and joys of family life. He was proud of his children's accomplishments and honored by the love and respect they showed him. As a husband, father and grandfather, he always proved to be a loving, supportive and devoted influence in the lives of his loved ones. He was a man who was incomparably well matched to his life's work and mission and was truly blessed with a kind heart, a generous attitude and a hopeful spirit. His own strength of character and personal value system made him an exemplary role model to all. He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing with his sons and grandchildren. Listening to Country Western music was another favorite pastime. He also enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida.
Survivors include his loving wife "Chic" of Frankfort; three devoted sons, Allen E. Irons Jr. and wife Leigh of Coppell,  Texas, Michael D. Irons and wife Heather and Patrick Irons and wife Bianca of Frankfort; two loving daughters, Mary Jo McGee and husband Dennis and Jana McKinney and husband Stephen of  Texas; a brother, Robert Irons and wife Myrtle of Herkimer; his cherished grandchildren, Allison Leigh Irons, Derrick Michael and Carl Allen McGee, Stephen Allen, Rachel Lourdes and Ian Michael McKinney, Michael David and John Allen, Ethan Patrick and Ava Marie Irons; and in-laws, Mary Stabile, Flora Jones, Annette and Louis Pawlinga, Madeline and Edward Rella, Margaret and Anthony Rella and Pearl Rusteberg. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many dear friends in Frankfort. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Gordon Irons; two sisters, Beryl Lints and Geraldine Gaffney; and sisters-in-law, Yo Speer and Grace Povia. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Dennis Michael McGee and Allen E. Irons III, which left a void in his heart and the hearts of the family.
The family will receive friends and relatives at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Frankfort and Ilion (315-894-8000), on Thursday, August 7, from 4-8 p.m. Allen's funeral mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort Street, Frankfort, and committal will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Kindly consider contributions in honor of Allen to the Dennis McGee Memorial Scholarship Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Linda Walrath
LONGMONT,  Colo. — Linda A. Walrath, 54, Longmont, Colorado, formerly of Little Falls, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Longmont United Hospital following a five-year battle with breast cancer.
She was born on February 16, 1949, in Little Falls, the daughter of Robert E. Walrath and Edith K. (Phillips) Walrath. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School, class of 1967, as well as a graduate of SUNY Oswego, class of 1971. She is survived by her father, Robert E. Walrath, and his wife, Constance of Little Falls; her mother, Edith K. Walrath of Herkimer; her brother, Robert A. Walrath, and his wife, Ann Marie of Little Falls; three sisters, Donna Vaughan and her husband, David, of Herkimer, Kathleen Feeter and her husband, David, of Brockport and Candace Leon and her husband, Dayton, of Amsterdam; dear friends, Auline Martin of Little Falls and Suzanne Hunt of Massachusetts; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Ms. Walrath be considered to the World Wildlife Fund, 1250 24th Street, N.W.,  Washington, D.C. 20037. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
