Hrabko, Harry: Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at age 84. Peacefully, after a long illness with Alzheimer's Disease. Predeceased by his wife Maria, in 1988, his brother Havrillo and sister Annastasia in Ukraine. He is survived by his two children, Alex (Valerie) Hrabko, Annette Montstream; grandchildren, Andrew, Robyn & Amber Hrabko, Christie & Lyndsey Montstream. Harry was born in the Rochester sister city of Poltava, Ukraine, on June 3, 1920. At the start of WWII, Harry fled to the west from the communists in his homeland and was captured by the German Army. He was forced to work in a German labor camp as a woodcutter until given his freedom by the Allies. As a "DP" (Displaced Person), Harry was offered a choice of returning to Ukraine or to start a new life in the USA, Brazil, or Australia. He made the right decision and chose to start a new life in the USA. Arriving in New York City, he was befriended by the local Ukrainian association and was given transportation and an address of a sponsor family in Rochester, NY. Originally living in rural Europe, Harry had only a small amount of education. Living in Rochester, he worked hard to learn English and achieved his goal of citizenship in a very short period of time. Lonely, Harry sought a wife from Europe and soon found his future bride, Maria, via friends. Harry sent for Maria and together they married and worked hard in the local service economy for small companies. Finally settling into 15-year + careers, with Harry at Xerox and Maria with the Pittsford Central School District. To their credit, they successfully raised their family with the ethics of hard work in the land of freedom.
