Died: Wednesday, January 06, 2010

Elva Liana Ramirez-Pizzano, longtime resident of St. James, died on Jan. 6. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph; cherished mother of Lisa, Elena, Carla and Paul; and loving grandma of five. She is also survived by her dog Topaz.

A funeral Mass was held on Dec. 11 at Sts. Philip & James R.C. Church, St. James. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Maher Family of the St. James Funeral Home in St. James.

Joan Lindner
Died: Saturday, January 02, 2010

Joan Lindner, age 73 of Nesconset, died on Jan. 2.

She was the beloved wife of George; loving mother of Debbie, Georgette, George, Jeff, Laura, Brian and Peter; dear sister of Peter, Vinny, Joseph and the late Donald; cherished grandmother of 10 and great-grandmother of three.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Holy Cross R.C. Church, Nesconset.

Entombment followed at Washington Memorial Park, Coram.

Arrangements entrusted to the Vigliante family of The Branch Funeral Home of Smithtown.

Jeanie Lanzer
Died: Thursday, December 31, 2009

After a long battle with cancer, Kings Park native and wonderful lady Jeanie Lanzer passed on Dec. 31. Jeanie was a member of the Kings Park Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary who gave selflessly to the community and was a bright light of kindness and compassion which will live on forever in the hearts and minds of all she touched. She was loved by all and will be missed dearly.

Basilio Nieves
Died: Monday, December 28, 2009

Basilio Nieves, age 73 of Smithtown, died on Dec. 28.

He was the beloved husband of the late Felicita; devoted father of Basilio Nieves, Jr., Wilford Nieves, Michael Nieves and Migidilia; and loving brother of Gladys, Rosean and Lydia.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. John's the Evangelist Church, Center Moriches. Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Center Moriches.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Vigliante family of The Branch Funeral Home of Smithtown.

Barbara S. Jones
Died: Friday, December 25, 2009

Barbara S. Jones of Manorville died on Dec. 25.

She was the beloved wife of Roy Jones; the loving mother of Ashley Jones, Suzanne Hurteau and Kristen D'Agostino and her husband David; the cherished daughter of Walter and the late Doris Spiess; and the dear sister of Winifred Spiess. A funeral Mass was held Dec. 30 at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Wading River.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 200 Belle Terre Road, Port Jefferson, NY 11777 would be appreciated.

Arrangements were entrusted to O.B. Davis Funeral Homes of Miller Place.

Tracy Kalfas
Died: Sunday, December 20, 2009

Tracy Kalfas, age 75 of Smithtown, died on Dec. 20.

She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew; loving mother of Dorothyanne (Michael) Callahan, Lee (Joanne) Kalfas and Bill (Shelly) Kalfas; and cherished Yia Yia of nine.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Shrine Church in Greenlawn. Interment followed at Long Island National Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Vigliante family of The Branch Funeral Home in Smithtown.

Toni M. Fiorello
Died: Sunday, December 20, 2009

Toni M. Fiorello (née Marmo), age 48 of Smithtown, died on Dec. 20.

She was the beloved companion of Salvatore Viola; cherished sister of Camille, Anna and Lisa; dear sister-in-law to Ronnie and Matt; wonderful stepmom to Katie, Chelsie and Jilliane; and loving aunt to Michele, Joseph, Daniel, Anthony, Samantha and Nicholas.

A memorial service was celebrated at the funeral home.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Vigliante family of The Branch Funeral Home in Smithtown.

Patricia A. Bischoff
Died: Sunday, December 20, 2009
Age: 66

Patricia A. Bischoff of Rocky Point died on Dec. 20 at the age of 66. Born in Nashville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Murphy) Oldring. She was a nurses' aide, employed by Sunrest Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Bischoff is survived by her husband, Thomas Bischoff; her daughters, Mary Bischoff-Moore of Wading River and Debbie Zanzana of Rocky Point; her sisters, Mary Sullivan and Darlene Oldring; her brothers, William Oldring of Setauket, Thomas Oldring and Francis Oldring; and three grandchildren.

A funeral service followed by interment was held on Dec. 26 at Washington Memorial Park in Mount Sinai. Arrangements were entrusted to Rocky Point Funeral Home in Rocky Point.

Domenico A. Macri
Died: Friday, December 18, 2009
Age: 89

Domenico A. Macri, 89 years old of Ridge, died on Dec. 18. He was born icon on Aug. 9, 1920 in Italy, the son of the late Antonio and Maria Macri.

He was a member of the Brookhaven Senior Citizens Club, Leisure Village Club and Garden Club. He enjoyed his garden, especially the vegetables and woodworking. He was a retired construction worker for Local No. 1 in Brooklyn.

Mr. Macri is survived by his son, Anthony F. Macri of Port Jefferson Station; his daughter, Maria Graziano of Connecticut; seven grandchildren; and his brother, Frank Macri, of Italy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmela Macri in May 2008.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Gerard Majella Roman Catholic Church in Port Jefferson Station on Dec. 22. Entombment followed at Washington Memorial Park in Mount Sinai.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Bryant Funeral Home of Setauket

Kathleen Corrigan

Died: Monday, January 31, 2011

Kathleen Corrigan of Port Jefferson Station died on Jan 31. She was a devoted speech pathologist for Sachem School District.

Mrs. Corrigan was the loving wife of Brendan Corrigan; loving mother of Maureen Corrigan; beloved daughter of James O'Connell and the late Ruth O'Connell; dear sister of Kelly O'Bryan, Barbara O'Connell and Evelyn O'Connell; and cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held today, Thursday, Feb. 3, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Feb. 4, at 10 am at Infant Jesus R.C. Church. Interment to follow at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing.

Arrangements entrusted to the O.B. Davis Funeral Homes of Port Jefferson Station.

Anthony Santora

Died: Monday, January 31, 2011

Anthony Santora, 55, of Ridge died on Jan. 31. Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of Joseph and Lucille (Maggio) Santora. He was a mechanic employed by TMS Automotive in Middle Island.

Mr. Santora is survived by his parents; his son, Marc Santora of Nesconset; his sisters, Joanne Santora of Ridge, Angela Black of Ridge, Josephine Romano of Rocky Point and Vivian Santora of New York City; and his brothers, Michael Santora of Roslyn Heights and Vincent Santora of San Diego, Calif.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Feb. 4 at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church in Rocky Point. A private cremation was arranged by the family.

All funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rocky Point Funeral Home of Rocky Point.

Carol Louise Dettmering

Died: Sunday, January 30, 2011

Carol Louise Dettmering, born icon Feb. 14, 1943, daughter of John and Florence Baldwin, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 30. She is survived by her devoted husband, Herb; loving children Audrey, Peter and Ross; and dear brother, John Baldwin.

A lifelong Setauket resident, Carol was a graduate of Port Jefferson High School and received her teaching degree from SUNY New Paltz. After graduation, she returned to the Three Village area to teach at Arrowhead Elementary School. She met her future husband, Herb, at "The Cabin" on Cedar Beach and they were married icon one year later. Carol took time off from teaching to raise her children, maintaining ties with the school district as a substitute when time allowed.

Carol had many diverse interests. In addition to being a gifted artist and painter, she was widely recognized for her love of cooking and her elegant cake decorations and confections. She owned and operated a home-based specialty cake business for the majority of her life. From weddings to birthdays to graduations, her cakes were a common request by many in the area.

A sewing enthusiast, Carol's meticulous work in quilting, spinning and period costuming was showcased at the Carriage Museum's Bicentennial Fair in 1976.

Carol was a dedicated member of the Setauket Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, singing for the choir and as a house and grounds committee member whose work was instrumental in the restoration of the Church's steeple. Her deep affection for the area was enhanced by her work as secretary at the Stony Brook Community Church for 23 years.

Her strong commitment to the local school district was best demonstrated in her role as the president of the Three Village Athletic Boosters. During this time, she created "The Booster Book" and helped coordinate various fundraising efforts and events, which led to the addition of new lights for the Ward Melville High School athletic field. The new lighting system enabled the high school to host future athletic events at night, which prior to, was not possible.

Carol's unwavering love and adoration for the Three Village community was always evident through her ongoing commitments and relationships to the people and organizations. She found much joy in giving back to a community which was so near and dear to her heart.

Carol was a recent survivor of breast cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Fortunato Breast Health Center at Mather Hospital.

Visitation hours will be held on Friday, Feb. 11, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home, 411 Old Town Road, Setauket.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, at noon at the Setauket Presbyterian Church.
