Dorothea A. Medina of Commack died on May 4 at the age of 70. She was the devoted mother of Wayne Medina (Denise), Debra Finlay (Mike) and Diane Medina; dear sister of Joan Ditillo; cherished grandmother of Ashley, Ryan, Jem and Samantha.
Funeral services were arranged by Moloney's Hauppauge Funeral Home. Interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
Dominick Sabatino
Died: Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Dominick Sabatino, 90, of Nesconset died on April 27.

He was the cherished father of Linda (Ronald) Feinberg; the devoted grandfather of Ronald, Jason and Lucas; and the loving brother of the late Sam Sabitino.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Ronkonkoma.
Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.

Edward F. Hilinski

Edward F. Hilinski, 83, of Smithtown died on April 21.

He was the beloved husband of the late Wanda; the devoted father of Edward Hilinski, Patricia Markey and Peggy Flanagan; the loving grandfather of six and great-grandfather of three; and the cherished brother of Thomas, Eugene and Irene Kytoski.
A religious service was followed by private cremation.

Mary C. Carattini

Mary C. Carattini, 81 of Smithtown died on April 17.
She was the beloved wife of Henry; the loving mother of Mark, Thomas (Marisa), Paul (Sherlyn) Carattini and the late Diane LaBarbera (Steven); and the cherished grandmother of Juliana and Steven Jr.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Smithtown. Entombment followed at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Francis Ashline Mullin
Died: Friday, July 09, 2010
Francis Ashline Mullin, 87 years old of South Setauket, died on July 9.
Born on Nov. 16, 1922, in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Leo and Florence Mullin.
He was a teacher and then later in his career the director of admissions for Ross University in NYC. He enjoyed tennis and basketball.
He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army Air Forces.
Mr. Mullin is survived by his daughters, Maureen Mullin of New York City, Patricia Anne Kochie of Southampton and Julia Swan of Westchester; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Mullin.

Dean Darrow
Died: Thursday, July 08, 2010
Dean Darrow of Old Field passed away early on July 8 at age 84 following a long illness. He was born
upstate in Solvay, outside of Syracuse, where he attended high school and later college at Oswego. Returning from enlistment in the Army during which he completed a tour in Korea, he attained his master's degree at Syracuse University. Shortly thereafter he was offered a position at Port Jefferson High School where he worked for 35 years teaching industrial arts. He also taught driver education and printing/graphic arts during his tenure there. He soon met and married
the love of his life, Jean Buchanan, and they made their home in Old Field and became active members of the community.
In the early '60s, Mr. Darrow accepted a position as trustee for the Village of Old Field. He was shortly thereafter appointed and then elected mayor, a position that he held for nearly 20 years, the longest in the history of the village. After stepping down as mayor, he further served on the planning board and zoning board of appeals for another 15 years, resigning only a few weeks before his death.
To those who knew him, Dean Darrow is remembered for his keen mind, subtle wit, tenacious diligence and quiet humility. He is survived by his wife Jean and sons Douglas of Atlanta, Ga., and David of Jamesport. John Coursen
Died: Saturday, July 03, 2010
John W. Coursen of Setauket died on July 3 at the age of 88. He was born
Dec. 18, 1921, in Herkimer. He was an aeronautical engineer with Grumman in Bethpage.
Mr. Coursen was the devoted husband of his late wife, Mattie, of Stony Brook. He is survived by his children, Wayne Coursen and his wife, Marianne, and Leslie Curran and her husband, Donald; his grandchildren, Ryan and Evan; and his great-grandchildren, Daniel Reid, Morgan and Johnny. He was predeceased by his grandchild, C.J.
A funeral Mass was held on July 7 at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Setauket, followed by interment at St. James Churchyard.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to O.B. Davis Funeral Homes of Port Jefferson.
Robert Coburn
Died: Wednesday, June 30, 2010
Robert G. Coburn, 88 years old of Stony Brook, died on June 30. Born on Nov. 23, 1921 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late George and Dorothy Coburn.
In addition to being a dedicated mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Mr. Coburn was a World War II veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Coburn is survived by his daughters, Denise Johnson and Kerry Ciota, both of Stony Brook; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth.
A service was held on July 7. Interment followed in Calverton National Cemetery .

Thomas H. Newton
Died: Friday, June 25, 2010
Age: 48
Thomas Howard Newton, long-time resident of Northport, died June 25 after a long struggle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 48.
Mr. Newton, a financial analyst and internet commerce specialist, was born
June 13, 1962, one of seven children of Lewis J. and Joyce M. Newton. His father, a carnival operator, founded Newton Shows in Brooklyn, moving the company and family to Northport in the early 50s. As a boy young Tom often helped out in the family business.
Graduating from Northport High School in 1980, Mr. Newton attained an A.S. degree in Business from Sullivan County Community College followed by a B.S. degree in Business from SUNY Oswego in 1983. He held a series of managerial positions at such companies as Computershare and EquiServe, jobs that required both financial savvy and knowledge of computer technologies.
An avid athlete, auto racer and world traveler, Mr. Newton enjoyed motivating friends and family to join him in his pursuits. He also loved golf, tennis, biking and skiing. A passionate car enthusiast, he owned and raced BMWs. Fascinated by the natural world, he led his family on annual camping trips to the Catskills.
Right up to the end of his life, Mr. Newton was active on the boards of many civic organizations, including the Board of Architectural and Historic Review in Northport village and Northport Tennis Club. He designed the Web site for the club.
A frequent public speaker on business and professional topics before the onset of ALS, Mr. Newton continued giving public talks after his speech became more limited. Among his final appearances were motivational talks to students at Northport High School on efforts to find a cure for ALS.
"Tom squeezed as much living as he could out of each day. His spirit will live on in all of us," his family said in a statement.
He is survived by his wife, Karin Steyer, and siblings Mary Ann Graziano (Larry), John (Debra), Carol Newton-Rumph, Mike (Kumhui), James (Susan), and Robert (Karin). He was the beloved uncle of 18 nieces and nephews.
Viewing was at Nolan and Taylor-Howe Funeral Home in Northport. Funeral mass will be held at St. Philip Neri Church in Northport. Burial will be at Northport Rural Cemetery. Antoinette Martin
Died: Friday, June 25, 2010
Antoinette Martin, 80 years old of Jacksonville, Fla. formerly of Stony Brook, died on June 25. Born on Jan. 23, 1930, in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Antoinette Dean, longtime residents of Stony Brook.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband, Charles; sons Charles and Scott; daughter Holly Sheppard; and grandchildren Sean, Lauren, Stephanie and Julie. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A service was held at Bryant Funeral Home on July 3. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

John J. Heilberger

John J. Heiberger, age 46, of East Setauket died on June 23.
He was the beloved husband of Madlyn; the devoted father of Brienne and Jaclyn; the cherished son of William and the late Patricia; and the loving brother of William and Rick.

Minnette Queen
Died: Wednesday, June 23, 2010
Minnette Day Queen died on June 23 at her home in Jefferson Ferry Lifecare Retirement Community in South Setauket, at the age of 98.
She was a former executive secretary for New York University. During her long, full life, she traveled widely, played the violin for 90 years with a lifelong passion for music, and enjoyed many friendships. She is deeply missed.
Mrs. Queen is survived by her daughter, Jackie Day of Stony Brook; her son, Kenneth Day of Nasaker, Sweden; her stepdaughter, Judith Queen of Providence, R.I.; and her grandsons, Teodor and Alfred Day of Nasaker, Sweden.
A memorial gathering will be planned for the future.
