Grace Wendt

Died: Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Grace D. Wendt, 100, of Kings Park, passed away peacefully May 21.

She was the beloved wife of the late Frank M. Wendt Sr.; cherished mother of Frank M. Wendt Jr.; loving grandmother of Gregory F. Wendt (Renate), the late Thomas J. Wendt, Joseph C. Wendt (Valerie) and Loren A. Pusateri (Edward); and dear great-grandmother of six.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Kings Park. Interment followed at St. John’s Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Branch Funeral Home of Smithtown and Vigliante family.

Pastor Dolores Helena Johnson Henderson

Died: Friday, May 17, 2013

Pastor Dolores Helena Johnson Henderson was born icon on Nov. 16, 1935, in Elizabeth, N.J., daughter of Viola Helena Davis Johnson and the Rev. Henry Wise Johnson. She was youngest of eight children. Raised in Roselle, N.J., she was educated in the Roselle Public School System. Dolores graduated from Abraham Clark High School where she excelled in softball, track, lacrosse and soccer. She had also been the captain of the debate team.

Pastor Henderson received a full athletic scholarship to Barnard College and began her studies of the sciences there. After earning a master’s degree in biology from New York University, she spent several years working in community health and family planning. In 1984, she became an investigator for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, also working as the Federal Women’s Program manager.

Pastor Henderson followed in the footsteps of her father, a Baptist minister; grandfather, the Rev. Joseph Lockwood Davis; uncle, the Rev. Joseph Norwood Davis; and aunt, the Rev. Mary Davis Hundley, all Methodist Episcopal elders, and joined the ministry. She earned a master’s in divinity from New York Theological Seminary in 1991. She served at Trinity United Methodist Church in City Island, the Bronx, from June 1991 to June 1994 and was associate pastor of Vanderveer Park UMC in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, for three years. The pastor of Freeport United Methodist Church from 1994 to 1997, she returned to be pastor at Freeport before leaving for her current assignment in 2009. Dolores has served as pastor of the St. James United Methodist Church in St. James for the past four years.

At the Annual Conference in June 1995, the Rev. Henderson was elected as a clergy delegate to the General Conference held in Denver in April, 1996. The first African American woman to be appointed as a district superintendent in the New York Annual Conference, her tenure as superintendent of Metropolitan South District began on July 1, 1997, and continued for seven years.

A brilliant woman, in 1969 the Rev. Henderson became a five-time champion of Jeopardy (television game show). She returned in 1970 to win the Tournament of Champions.

After the passing of her beloved daughter Mary, Dolores was very proud to raise her granddaughter, Mara, who is currently attending Widener University in Chester, Pa.

Dolores Helena Johnson Henderson passed away on Friday, May 17, at the parsonage of St. James United Methodist Church at the age of 77. She was predeceased by seven siblings, Frances Johnson, Beulah Johnson, Iva M. Johnson, Mabel Johnson, Henry Raymond Johnson, Thelma Smith and Randolph Johnson.

She leaves to cherish fond memories her granddaughter, Mara Helena Rani Watkins; a devoted niece, Viola Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 24, from 7 to 9:30 pm at St. James United Methodist Church, 532 Moriches Road, St. James.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 25, at noon at St. James UMC.

Interment will take place Tuesday, May 28, at 1 pm at Heavenly Rest Memorial Park, 268 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, N.J.

Joseph Chiarelli

Died: Tuesday, May 14, 2013
Age: 91

Joseph Chiarelli, 91, of Stony Brook, died on May 14. He was the cherished husband for 69 years of Ida; loving father of Russell (Petrina), Patricia Voll and Joette Behrmann; beloved Grandpa of eight; and great-grandfather of seven.

A funeral Mass was held at Sts. Philip & James R.C. Church. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Maher Family of the St. James Funeral Home in St. James.

Clifford Ludlum

Died: Monday, May 13, 2013

Clifford G. Ludlum, 93, of Ridge, died May 13. He was born icon Oct. 7, 1919, in Brooklyn, the son of the late Joseph and the late Louise Ida (Hutchins) Ludlum. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Bott) Ludlum.

Clifford served in the U.S. Army during World War II from July 31, 1942, to Nov. 26, 1945. He was employed by Queens Farms, So. Ozone Park, as a milkman.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Maureen Kelly of Ronkonkoma and Elizabeth Ann McCauley of Middle Island; sister, Claudia McKenna of Ga., four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be today, Thursday, May 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 am on Friday, May 17, at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, 614 Route 25A, Rocky Point, with the Rev. Richard P. Hoerning officiating. Burial will follow in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton at 10:45 am.

Eleanor Burke

Died: Monday, May 13, 2013

Eleanor R. Burke, a longtime resident of Smithtown, died suddenly on May 13. She was the cherished wife of James E. Burke Jr.; loving mother of Kathleen McKeon and James D. (Mary Jean) Burke; devoted Grandma of Katie, Patrick and Amanda; beloved godmother of Debra Williams. She was a realtor at Grobe Realty, Stony Brook, and a volunteer at the Verizon Pioneer Museum.

Friends may visit at St. James Funeral Home, South Chapel, 829 Middle Country Rd. (Route25), St. James, today, Thursday, May 16, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 17, at 10 am at St. Philip & St. James R.C. Church.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Maher family of the St. James Funeral Home, in St. James.

Richard Pina

Died: Friday, June 07, 2013

Richard D. Pina of Wading River, 84, died on June 7.

He was a proud Korean War veteran of the USMC. Semper Fi!

Richard was the beloved husband of Geraldine; loving father of Richard (Aurora) Pina, Kristina (Nathaniel) Siegel and Lisa (Robert) Frenna; cherished grandfather of Elizabeth (David) Roque, Catherine and Victoria; dear friend of the Madden family; and devoted companion of Beethoven and Wolfgang.

A funeral Mass was held at Sts. Philip and James R.C. Church, St. James. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.

Richard Lewis Ellingsen

Died: Friday, June 07, 2013

Richard Lewis Ellingsen, age 86, of East Northport died June 7. Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Richard Lewis and the late Margaret Ellingsen. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He was employed by Grumman in Bethpage as an engineer.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Bertha (née Garry); his loving daughter, Jean Garofalo of Mount Sinai; son, Richard Garry Ellingsen of Virginia, and three grandchildren.

Prayers were offered on June 11 at the funeral home, followed by burial at Calverton National Cemetery.

Margaret M. Thuilot

Died: Monday, June 03, 2013
Age: 65

Margaret M. Thuilot, age 65, of Sound Beach, died Monday, June 3. Born March 2, 1948, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Arvid Edward and the late Margaret (Conmy) Eklund. She was a homemaker.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Thuilot; beloved daughter, Kimberly Thuilot of Hauppauge; sons, Albert George Thuilot and Matthew Thuilot; and brothers Michael Eklund, Gary Eklund of West Virginia, Daniel Eklund of Florida and Arvid Eklund of New York.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 5, at the Rocky Point Funeral Home, with Chaplain Richard McKay officiating.

Burial will be at Calverton National Cemetery today, Thursday, June 6, at 10:30 am.

John Billstein

Died: Monday, June 03, 2013

John H. Billstein, 81 of Ridge, died peacefully on June 3.

They shall not be forgotten. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy.

John was the beloved husband of Doris; loving father of Robert (Darlene), Gary (Kathy) and Steve (Peggy); cherished grandfather of Kristin, Devin, Keith, Daniel, Elise, Erin and Kellyanne.

Helen Moskowski, 98, of St. James, died on May 31.

She was the beloved wife of the late Frank; cherished mother of Patricia (Robert) Carpenter and Barbara (Robert) Bianco; loving grandmother of three; and great-grandmother of five.

James H. Clinton, 81, of Wading River, died on May 31.

He was the loving father of James, Richard, Kathleen and Karen.

Jose Mari

Died: Thursday, May 30, 2013

Jose Mari, 64, of Smithtown, passed away on May 30.

He was the beloved husband of Luthgarda; loving father of Joseph (Jessica) and Jay (Kelly); and cherished brother of Clara Mari, Delia Turco, Benvienido Mari and the late Angel Mari.

He is survived by many other family members and friends.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Smithtown. Interment followed at Queen of All Saints Cemetery.
